Our friend from Oakland, CA recommended this place- casual dining in older part of Lisbon, everything was delicious. Finding this small restaurant can be challenging. We went for the grilled sardines--so fresh and the best we've ever had. We ordered the octopus too --portions are generous. Eating at a local, casual and comfortable place made for a memorable dinner. read more

The ambiance of the restaurant was adorable. It's located on a STEEP downslope and half of the seats are outside. Sitting outside added to the experience but I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't concerned about sliding down the slope. However, the server was so nice and very accommodating. The only problem is that she was stretched thin, so it was easy to feel a bit forgotten at times. The food was ok. All the food was fresh and pretty light. The star of the show was the Octopus dish. The shrimp was really good as well, but I just wished there were a couple of more prawns. The Shrimp Rice was just ok to me, and that was the most disappointing part. There were a lot of reviews raving about the dish, but simply didn't stand out to me. read more

Great little eatery that's cash only, which makes sense given their prices are lower than the restaurants on the tourist row up top. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is on a slant due to the location and cobblestones. I enjoyed my squid with potatoes. It was a little oily for me, but had nice flavoring. The woman working was very nice and honest. She cautioned the table next to me that their orders came with sides ordering more might be too much food. read more

We came to this place not knowing it was cash only so we had to get cash and come back. We waited about 30 minutes to get seated. Once we were seated we ordered our meals. I really liked our orders. I got the bacalhau da cas and it was codfish with rice basically. It was a bit salty but i still enjoyed the food. The octupus salad I recommend as well because it's so soft and not super chewy. All the food we ordered here were pretty tasty and affordable. I would also prepare to wait on line since this place does not take reservations and it's first come first serve. The restaurant is small and gets packed. read more

The experience wasn't bad overall, though it was a little pricey for two. Our bill came to €100, not including the tip! I've visited other establishments in Lisbon that weren't nearly as expensive. Additionally, we had quite a walk because our Uber had to drop us off elsewhere due to significant congestion and traffic, making the place a bit difficult to locate. It was also a bit cramp in there. They squeezed us in this very tight space. We also had to climb some steep stairs to reach it. Despite these points, the service was good and the food was excellent. Ultimately, my main concern was the price of the restaurant since the place wasn't fancy. read more

yessss! what Sardines! and grilled octopus. I was on a mission to find sardines in Lisbon, I am glad I came here for my sardines. The Sardines were really good, there was some compliments with roasted potatoes to go with it. It was not as salty, and it was grilled just right. The grilled octopus was also very good. It was flavorful and tender! I could eat plates of these! Environment This was a quite interesting location, it was located what seems to be half way up a set of stairs. I guess this is popular style in portugal. The outdoor seating is very very very limited- probably 2 tables. There are quite some seating inside. Luckily when I went it wasn't busy, so I was able to get a seat fairly quickly. The tables were more on the small side.. not sure if it was me that's ordering too much.. either way, don't order responsibly Niceness of the staff very nice and attentive staff. I got dishes with intentions to share and they provided small share plates. Dollar It was pretty decent, the 2 dishes was 35 Euro. Quite happy. I see a lot of people mention they only take cash, but I was able to pay via card. It was strange though, they walked me out to swipe the card cause there wasn't service.. a little sketch, but my card was safe. Yes/No I would return here for the same dishes. read more

Most of the popular restaurants in Lisbon have long lines. This hidden gem is for people who are in the know, they did their research before coming. It's tucked away in an alley up a flight of stairs from every other busy spot. All I can say is that the food here is worth a visit. Home cooked with lots of love. I recommend ordering from the Chef's Suggestions menu. My son loved the Shrimp Arroz. I enjoyed the grilled Wild Tiger Shrimp, it tasted like sweet lobster. I can't believe we had 4 dishes for $55. Drink menu is limited. I don't drink soda but settled on an orange Fanta. It's actually less sweet than the ones in the U.S. Service was friendly and efficient given how mad busy it was. Not sure but I think it's cash only. read more

Best bacalhau bra's style we had on our entire trip!!! This cute little spot has a lot more seating than you'd expect. There's a few outdoor tables and some seating upstairs as well as when you first walk in. We got seated pretty much right away. It's CASH ONLY so make sure you take some. We got the octopus and bacalhau bra's style for two of us. Everything here was amazing! We'd definitely go back and get more food here next time. read more

My fiance and I were recommended this restaurant by someone we met in Lisbon. We enjoyed our experience along with our food. We didn't meet the owner, but the lady that was there was very lovely. She was very sweet and attentive. We arrived right at 12 which was perfect because shortly after the restaurant began to fill up. We enjoyed everything that we tried from the bread and olives, the pomodoro pasta, the dessert (arroz doce), and our "gifted" shot at the end. My pasta had a strong garlic taste which was perfect for me. Although pasta isn't a traditional Portuguese dish, I was very pleased with it! Overall, we really loved this little place. The decor is fun and colorful. The restaurant is nestled in a little alley up some stairs, so you might have to ask for help when locating it. If you are in town, I recommend you trying this restaurant! read more

CAUTION: The owner lady will pull every trick in her bag to make you pay in cash so they can cook the books. Don't fall for this and insist on paying with card if that's what you'd like. I was taken upstairs away from the customers' view to process my payment. Also she will check in every white customer to make sure they're ok. But never to non-white customers. Racists. Food was not the best but above average. My calamari/squid for example was not thoroughly cleaned with the beak still embedded in the heads as well as some guts residue inside the bodies. Beef was delicious and tender tho. If they could fix their attitude problem would be a 5 star place. read more

Liked the food but didn't love it. I think I ordered the wrong dishes though. I came for dinner around 8:30 and there was a decent sized line of folks waiting. My friend and I ended up waiting around 30 minutes to get seated, which isn't terrible but not great either. We were seated outside, which was our preference as it was a nice day out. The inside seating is 2 floors but I assume it's not a big place inside, which is why it can get busy and lined up. We tried: Soup of the day (3€) - it's always a vegan soup. It was lentil soup the day we went. Creamy eggs with mushroom (7.50€) - from the menu I wasn't sure what this was, but it was just scrambled eggs with mushroom. Fried cod (2€ per unit, min 3 in one order) - good cod fritters. More breaded inside than I was expected but I liked it! Probably my favorite dish of the meal. Octopus salad (16.50€) - didn't like this at all as I wasn't expecting it to come with bell peppers and cilantro, both of which I hate. The only saving grace was the octopus and tomato. Not sure why this dish is so popular here... Grilled sardines (11.90€) - never tried grilled sardines again and never will. Way too many bones and too much effort for the small amount of meat you get. Potatoes on the side were fantastic though! Service was good. I really appreciated that one of the servers very patiently showed me the right way to separate the sardine meat from the bones so it was a little bit easier to eat. We ended the meal with a small complimentary shot of ginjinha, the local cherry liquor. It was so good! read more

This place was the first spot we ate at upon landing in Lisbon and it was the best food I've had in a long time. I highly recommend the Portuguese sausage and the octopus. I don't think I've ever tasted a tender octopus in my life until I ate here. Shared some of the other seafood dishes with my friends, I can't remember what they were but all the dishes were 10/10. My only complaint is how small the place is which causes quite a bit of a wait time but let me tell you it is definitely worth the wait! read more

Authentic Portuguese food! I loved this place so much I went back twice in 2 days. The dishes are so good. It is definitely like home cooking and very flavorful and delicious. I gade the grill sardines, rice with mushrooms , beef stew, sangria and lemon meringue pie. The sangria was the best I ever had. The pie was the bomb! So homemade and great tasting. The rice with mushrooms were fantastic and I loved the beef stew. It was my first time eating grilled sardines and I loved it! We went about 9pm and there was a wait the first day but worth it. The next day we went around 5 pm and there was no wait. Also, I love the authentic hole in the wall feel of the restaurant. Yes, it's tight in there but everyone appeared comfortable with it. Great spot. A 10/10. read more

Super unique restaurant, we entered the alleyway and could not find it at first. Little did we noticed that we had to climb the stairs to find Tu & Eu. It is a pretty small restaurant but luckily we were able to be seated as soon as we got in. We ordered a variety of dishes and thought that the garlic shrimp was the star of the dinner. The pica pau chicken was also nicely done and was packed with flavor. The codfish cake was alright as the breading was on the heavier side and the fish could have been grilled a bit longer. The almond cake for dessert was a great way to end out our night. The restaurant emphasizes a lot of simple food but it was all delicious. I would definitely recommend checking Tu & Eu out if in town! read more

Lisboa Tu & Eu was my least favorite restaurant in Lisbon. I was really disappointed after eating here, since this place had fantastic and positive reviews. However, I was really underwhelmed with the food. The codfish a bras had almost no flavor, the alheria was better than the codfish a bras but still was not as good as the other alheria sausages I've had in the city. The only thing I really liked here was the Sangria, but I really wish I would've picked a different spot for my dinner. If Lisbon taught me anything, it was to never really trust reviews online. read more

Delicious food and wonderful service in this small, cozy restaurant in the Alfama neighborhood. Highly recommend!

Throughout my 8 day stay in Portugal, this might have been the best meal I had eaten there. And that includes a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Lisboa Tu & Eu is a little hole in the wall with probably about 10 tables. Our party of 6 came at around 9 on a Saturday. We waited about half an hour but were lucky to get a table. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share: -Mix board - this came with various meats/cheeses. I enjoyed the jamon but wasn't a huge fan of the chorizo (?). The cheese were good. If you want bread, you need to order it separately -Octopus salad - this was nice and light, and the octopus was very tender. I believe it was drizzled with olive oil. It was simple but perfect - Bulhão pato clams - these are clams with garlic and lemon. Again, simple but good. The fewer ingredients, the better - then you can really taste the seafood -Squid - I am not even lying to you when I say this is the best squid I have ever eaten in my entire life. They give you huge meaty chunks and it just melts in your mouth. It's not like the US, where it's calamari rings that taste like rubberbands. These were SO good. I still have dreams about it. It was a tad on the saliter side but I still probably could have eaten a whole thing by myself -Grilled sardines - these had a nice flavor but I guess I may not be a fan of sardines in general because I hate picking out the little bones -Bacalhau (salted cod) à Brás - this is salted cod with thin strips of crispy fried potatoes. It's almost like their version of a hash brown but with fish. I never knew fish and potatoes could go so well together -Shrimp à Brás - this was good but I think one dish à Bráswould have been enough. It's pretty filling. If you are getting one, I would probably opt for the cod. Both of the à Brás are a bit on the salty side too, so you can't really eat much of it After dinner, they give you some markers so you can graffiti on the wall! It was a cute experience but good luck finding real estate space. If you can, I'd recommend going with a smaller group, that way you have a greater chance of nabbing a table. If I ever find myself in Lisbon again, I would come back for that squid. read more

This was quite a find! We tried going to this restaurant a few days before and the wait was too long so we decided to come back and we were so glad we did. Tucked away up a corridor of stairs with a tiny sign this place seats maybe 35 people tops. Simply decorated with hand signed love on the ceiling and wood column the tables and chairs are not built for comfort... but you won't care. We were seated at 3pm and ordered a 1/2 jug of red house wine, chef's special of the day Octopus, Pica Pau Beef & Chicken Alfredo. All were delicious but the Pica Pau Beef and grilled Octopus were the stand outs. The Octopus was grilled to perfection and tender. The Pica Pau Beef w/potatoes was succulent, savory and the sauce was incredibly flavorful. I was making sure all the sauce out of my dish was soaked up! Simply delicious. We had the honor of chatting with the owner, Maria who was such a lovely host. We finished our meal with the rice pudding which made our sun, moon and stars align. Definitely don't miss this place and go early to avoid the wait. read more

I wanted to like this place so much, but unfortunately my experience here left much to be desired. I ordered the grilled sardines. The food took forever to come and it was rather dry. A fascinating small traditional restaurant in a valley. You may need to take a street elevator and go to Level 1 to reach the restaurant (took me a while to figure it out). The interior of the restaurant is very cute with handwritten messages from customers all over the wall and ceiling. The lady serving is very friendly. The grilled sardines are out of the world - I never knew that sardines could be so delicious, with crispy skin and even the oil is flavorful. A glass of white wine is exactly what you need to go with it. Also got offered a small shot of ginjinha (Portuguese cherry liqueur) to end the meal perfectly. This is a special place. The restaurant has a wonderful vibe. Unusual decor does not take away how sensational the food is. The dishes being grilled smelled fantastic.
