We came to this place not knowing it was cash only so we had to get cash and come back. We waited about 30 minutes to get seated. Once we were seated we ordered our meals. I really liked our orders. I got the bacalhau da cas and it was codfish with rice basically. It was a bit salty but i still enjoyed the food. The octupus salad I recommend as well because it's so soft and not super chewy. The experience wasn't bad overall, though it was a little pricey for two. Our bill came to €100, not including the tip! I've visited other establishments in Lisbon that weren't nearly as expensive. Additionally, we had quite a walk because our Uber had to drop us off elsewhere due to significant congestion and traffic, making the place a bit difficult to locate. It was also a bit cramp in there. They squeezed us in this very tight space. We also had to climb some steep stairs to reach it. Despite these points, the service was good and the food was excellent. Most of the popular restaurants in Lisbon have long lines. This hidden gem is for people who are in the know, they did their research before coming. It's tucked away in an alley up a flight of stairs from every other busy spot. All I can say is that the food here is worth a visit. Home cooked with lots of love. I recommend ordering from the Chef's Suggestions menu. My son loved the Shrimp Arroz. I enjoyed the grilled Wild Tiger Shrimp, it tasted like sweet lobster. I can't believe we had 4 dishes for $55. Best bacalhau bra's style we had on our entire trip!!! This cute little spot has a lot more seating than you'd expect. There's a few outdoor tables and some seating upstairs as well as when you first walk in. We got seated pretty much right away. It's CASH ONLY so make sure you take some. She was very sweet and attentive. We arrived right at 12 which was perfect because shortly after the restaurant began to fill up. We enjoyed everything that we tried from the bread and olives, the pomodoro pasta, the dessert (arroz doce), and our "gifted" shot at the end. My pasta had a strong garlic taste which was perfect for me. Although pasta isn't a traditional Portuguese dish, I was very pleased with it! Overall, we really loved this little place. CAUTION: The owner lady will pull every trick in her bag to make you pay in cash so they can cook the books. Don't fall for this and insist on paying with card if that's what you'd like. I was taken upstairs away from the customers' view to process my payment. Also she will check in every white customer to make sure they're ok. But never to non-white customers. Racists. Food was not the best but above average. My calamari/squid for example was not thoroughly cleaned with the beak still embedded in the heads as well as some guts residue inside the bodies. Liked the food but didn't love it. I think I ordered the wrong dishes though. I came for dinner around 8:30 and there was a decent sized line of folks waiting. My friend and I ended up waiting around 30 minutes to get seated, which isn't terrible but not great either. We were seated outside, which was our preference as it was a nice day out. The inside seating is 2 floors but I assume it's not a big place inside, which is why it can get busy and lined up. We tried: Soup of the day (3€) - it's always a vegan soup. It was lentil soup the day we went. Creamy eggs with mushroom (7.50€) - from the menu I wasn't sure what this was, but it was just scrambled eggs with mushroom. Fried cod (2€ per unit, min 3 in one order) - good cod fritters. More breaded inside than I was expected but I liked it! Probably my favorite dish of the meal. Octopus salad (16.50€) - didn't like this at all as I wasn't expecting it to come with bell peppers and cilantro, both of which I hate. The only saving grace was the octopus and tomato. Not sure why this dish is so popular here... Grilled sardines (11.90€) - never tried grilled sardines again and never will. Way too many bones and too much effort for the small amount of meat you get. Potatoes on the side were fantastic though! Service was good. I really appreciated that one of the servers very patiently showed me the right way to separate the sardine meat from the bones so it was a little bit easier to eat. We ended the meal with a small complimentary shot of ginjinha, the local cherry liquor. It was so good! read more

Authentic Portuguese food! I loved this place so much I went back twice in 2 days. The dishes are so good. It is definitely like home cooking and very flavorful and delicious. I gade the grill sardines, rice with mushrooms , beef stew, sangria and lemon meringue pie. The sangria was the best I ever had. The pie was the bomb! So homemade and great tasting. The rice with mushrooms were fantastic and I loved the beef stew. It was my first time eating grilled sardines and I loved it! We went about 9pm and there was a wait the first day but worth it. Super unique restaurant, we entered the alleyway and could not find it at first. Little did we noticed that we had to climb the stairs to find Tu & Eu. It is a pretty small restaurant but luckily we were able to be seated as soon as we got in. We ordered a variety of dishes and thought that the garlic shrimp was the star of the dinner. The pica pau chicken was also nicely done and was packed with flavor. The codfish cake was alright as the breading was on the heavier side and the fish could have been grilled a bit longer. However, I was really underwhelmed with the food. This was quite a find! We tried going to this restaurant a few days before and the wait was too long so we decided to come back and we were so glad we did. Tucked away up a corridor of stairs with a tiny sign this place seats maybe 35 people tops. Simply decorated with hand signed love on the ceiling and wood column the tables and chairs are not built for comfort... but you won't care. We were seated at 3pm and ordered a 1/2 jug of red house wine, chef's special of the day Octopus, Pica Pau Beef & Chicken Alfredo. Throughout my 8 day stay in Portugal, this might have been the best meal I had eaten there. And that includes a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Lisboa Tu & Eu is a little hole in the wall with probably about 10 tables. Our party of 6 came at around 9 on a Saturday. We waited about half an hour but were lucky to get a table. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share: -Mix board - this came with various meats/cheeses. I enjoyed the jamon but wasn't a huge fan of the chorizo (?). The cheese were good. If you want bread, you need to order it separately -Octopus salad - this was nice and light, and the octopus was very tender. I believe it was drizzled with olive oil. It was simple but perfect - Bulhão pato clams - these are clams with garlic and lemon. Again, simple but good. The fewer ingredients, the better - then you can really taste the seafood -Squid - I am not even lying to you when I say this is the best squid I have ever eaten in my entire life. They give you huge meaty chunks and it just melts in your mouth. It's not like the US, where it's calamari rings that taste like rubberbands. These were SO good. I still have dreams about it. It was a tad on the saliter side but I still probably could have eaten a whole thing by myself -Grilled sardines - these had a nice flavor but I guess I may not be a fan of sardines in general because I hate picking out the little bones -Bacalhau (salted cod) à Brás - this is salted cod with thin strips of crispy fried potatoes. It's almost like their version of a hash brown but with fish. I never knew fish and potatoes could go so well together -Shrimp à Brás - this was good but I think one dish à Bráswould have been enough. It's pretty filling. If you are getting one, I would probably opt for the cod. Both of the à Brás are a bit on the salty side too, so you can't really eat much of it After dinner, they give you some markers so you can graffiti on the wall! It was a cute experience but good luck finding real estate space. If you can, I'd recommend going with a smaller group, that way you have a greater chance of nabbing a table. If I ever find myself in Lisbon again, I would come back for that squid. read more

A fascinating small traditional restaurant in a valley. You may need to take a street elevator and go to Level 1 to reach the restaurant (took me a while to figure it out). The interior of the restaurant is very cute with handwritten messages from customers all over the wall and ceiling. The lady serving is very friendly. The grilled sardines are out of the world - I never knew that sardines could be so delicious, with crispy skin and even the oil is flavorful. This place came highly recommended by a local we met. It is located in Alfama (the only neighborhood that survived during the big earthquake) and quite literally a hole in the wall. Getting there was interesting, either way you choose; starting from below or above, there will be plenty of stairs. The food is absolutely amazing and is something I would boldly claim nothing I've ever tasted. We ordered the shrimp a bras and also bacalhau nata (cod fish in creamy sauce) and both were rich in flavor. There was a line both times I passed by, both during weekday lunch and dinner, but there was no wait when I arrived for an early Wednesday dinner. Small cash-only place with communal tables. I finally tried grilled sardines (€11.90). They gave 4 whole fish with roasted potatoes and veggies. The fish were small, but double the size of a sardine can. I still don't love sardines, but they were much better than any canned sardines.
