This is a nice dining option in downtown Lisbon. They serve a variety sushi and seafood dishes and Portuguese cuisine. Vegetarian dishes are somewhat limited to sides and salads.

We just had an excellent seafood dinner here. The Bastardo carpaccio appetizer of salmon, mackerel and sea bass was so flavorful, followed by cod and sea bass entrees (both were good but the sea bass was best). We shared a slice of Basque cheesecake for dessert and it was the creamiest we'd ever had-terrific. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly and efficient staff also. Definitely recommend if you are looking for high quality seafood.

Ambience is casual. Good place for a date, friends or quiet families :) Service is very friendly. Greeter and waiter were both fluent in English (but you should still try to learn some basic words). Great cocktail menu. We tried Lisbon mule. The ginger beer is soft and a bit sweet, I will have it again! On to the food. I went for the prawn, avocado and mango salad. Too few prawns and too much spinach. The dressing was well prepared, but I was hoping for more prawns. The shrimp risotto had excellent taste. Generous portion with a super big, meaty and tasty shrimp Salmon with rice and curry was buttery, crispy on the outside and tender. Chef's sushi choice is an excellent poke like dish. Salmon was buttery, cucumber, mango and seaweed balanced it all.

A friend recommended this place as we wanted Oysters because earlier in the week, we enjoyed them immensely at Pinochio's. We made the poor assumption that we were so close to the ocean that seafood was going to be great. Wrong, oysters were immensely salty and a strong fish taste and kept biting down on pieces of the shell. The mushroom risotto was very bland we had to ask for salt and pepper but still did not finish it. The sushi was a huge disappointment, very chewy so much so we did not finish that either. And to top it off being yelled at by the waiter when we asked for our check and to please remove the beer that was never delivered, he insisted it was coming and we had to pay for it. My friend asked for it when the food was brought to the table. When it hadn't shown up 40 minutes later, at this point, we were just wanting our check and to go elsewhere for dessert. We learned that just because you are close to the ocean does not mean the seafood will be fresh. Worst restaurant we ate at in Lisbon.

Omelette to order and a few tasty morsels from the Bastardo breakfast, exclusively for guests of the Internacional Design Hotel.

Wonderful experience with a very kind and professional staff. We stayed in the attached hotel and took almost all of our meals in Lisbon at Bastardo. It was just that good! They also put out an extravagant breakfast buffet (pictured) for hotel guests only, and the menu was inventive with great flavors and beautiful presentations. The restaurant also had gorgeous views of Rossio Square (pictured) and no, I do not know any of the patrons who appear in this photo.

Cataplana, which has lobster, crab, sea bass, salmon, mussels, clams and tiger shrimp. Mashed potatoes and white rice.

Wow, wow, wow!!!!! We came here for our 1 year wedding anniversary. It's in the middle of the life of the party! 5 stars is an understatement. You cannot visit Portugal without eating at bastardos! It will change your life. You think you've had the best seafood? Let me know if that's still true when you finish eating here. AMAZING and GREAT SERVICE!!!! Love love love

Very upscale restaurant serving fresh fish. Try the octopus salad, clams in garlic sauce, and fish stew. Excellent staff. Very efficient. Quite a varied wine list.

Spectacular doesn't do this place justice. Very creative! I ordered the milhojas de bacalao, not truly knowing what to expect. I related milhojas to a napoleon, but the plate truly surprised and amazed me! I won't give the details away: you'll just have to come and try it for yourself. If you like bacalao, you'll adore this plate!

2 nights ago, we walked to Bastardo's for a family dinner (group of 7). We got there at 8:30pm. All the tables inside were taken so we seated outside. Let me tell you, it was windy and colder than all the previous nights. We were sitting outside for 10 minutes before asking the manager if he can squeeze us inside. He made it happen. Manager 5/5 Waiter - I'm not sure if he was new but he wasn't attentive. He didn't come around to ask if we needed anything. We waved him down to get refills and then, he forgets 1 of our drinks. He forgot some of our orders and who ordered what. 1.5/5 Food - The food was ok. We ordered more dishes than the pictures I took. Only dish I would recommend is the Traditional Portuguese Beef Steak and Smoked Ham. Had good flavors and was well balanced. My sunny side egg was over cooked but my sisters egg was spot on. Egg yolk was still running. 3/5. Overall 2.5/5 Chefs in the Kitchen - Amazing!!! Team of 5. The head chef and the 4 other chefs handled the kitchen like a beast. 5/5

This is our 2nd try to find dinner. Went an Italian restaurant but the pasta carbonara came with burnt bacon and too salty to swallow. We finished the salad then wandered around trying to find something not the Portuguese food for tourists. Hard for the area within 10 minute walk surrounding Rossio Station. We saw thru the window a plate of Octopus on mashed sweet potatoes and Asparagus. Walked in without reservation and was seated right away. The service was prompt and polite. My octopus was tender and enjoyable. Hubby's Cod Fish with Potato "Mille Fuilles" was a different story. The shredded salt cod was piled on top of a bunch fried potato chip. The chips were soggy, hard to cut with knife and hard to chew. What was the chef thinking? It would be wonderful if the potatoes were scalloped & baked, as a perfect foil to soak up the salt and the creamy sauce in the cod. What was the purpose of frying the potato and not keeping it crispy?

On our last evening in Lisbon, we made a reservation at Bastardo for what turned out to be an unexpectedly delicious dinner ( as in, even better than we hoped!). Started with passion-fruit sangria & tuna tataki, then shared the sea bass fillet with mashed potatoes, which was very nicely plated separately. Highly recommend!

It's rotisserie chicken doused with a spicy hot sauce so what's not to like? I knew it was a Portuguese-originated dish, so I looked for a place famous for it. Here on a Sunday evening, there was quite a queue extending up the cobblestone alley, so I realized this must be the place. Although it was at least thirty people deep, it didn't take more than twenty minutes for Jamie W and me to secure a table upstairs. It was a homestyle dining room set-up that hovered between cozy and crowded depending on the fluctuating volume level. Interestingly all the servers were male, and while ours was the most junior, he consciously followed the behavior of his veteran brethren. There was no question about our main course, the 13,5€ Frango Assado No Espeto (Roast Chicken on the Spit) (Photo 7). It was tender and succulent enough albeit a bit under seasoned, all the more reason to pour a liberal dose of the piri piri sauce (Photo 8). Our sides were simple but shareable, the 3,2€ Batata Fritta (French Fries) (Photo 9) and the 4,3€ Salada Mista (Mixed Salad) (Photo 10). Both were fine, though we really wanted to try their Cream Spinach. They were already out of it in the kitchen. We were quite satisfied nonetheless, and their service pretty much worked like clockwork. Jamie and I agreed we'd definitely come back if the passion for poultry strikes us on a return trip to Lisbon. In the meanwhile, I'll just do a run to Costco, buy a rotisserie chicken, and dream of Portugal. A small line of one or two groups at a time formed throughout the night. We were seated outside and there was a street performer with an acoustic guitar - def added some great vibes to the night. It was a chilly December night but the heater provided *just enough* warmth. We ordered the codfish cakes which were alright - nothing too special. Since it was a little cold out, I also ordered the chicken broth. It was bland, but good in its own way. There was some rice and chicken bits in it that tasted really good. The rotisserie chicken that they are known for was EXTREMELY salty. We were a group of 6 and ordered 2.5 rotisserie chicken (so 5 pieces) but this was actually way too much. It's a little better (but still salty) if you don't eat the skin, but that's the best part given how crispy it was! I tried to drown out the saltiness by using the piri piri sauce and it helped a little bit... but biting into the chicken meant biting into the undissolved salt bits. Given how salty it was, we could not finish it at all and left behind 3 pieces. Service itself was meh. They made sure to inform us that the tip was not included in the bill.

I'm going to recommend to our travel coordinator to add this restaurant to the Google map recommendations list because more people need to go to this place - they need more tables, more space, because I'm convinced this is such a hidden gem that should be exposed to the masses to enjoy! We visited several wineries and this restaurant had the best wine - bar none! The fish, a fish I hadn't tried before, was deliciously seasoned, falls apart with the fork, the creamy rice was just divine. I normally will never eat little cherry/grape tomatoes - ever - but the perfect bite of fish, creamy rice, and a tomato was... perfection. The menu is deeply curated; flavors - textures - wines that make sense. You can tell Frederico what you normally like and he 100% knows what wines he has that you will love. The tomato, orange, ham, salad, was absolutely balanced and delicious. I'm so grateful that our first trip to Portugal we got to meet Frederico and dine with these wonderful people who love food and wine as much as us. I'll never forget it as long as I live.
