This place was recommended to us by hotel staff. It was a nice, easy walk from our hotel and has a nice authentic Portuguese feel. The inside is dark and very tight but this lends to the intimate feel of the space. We were seated upstairs in the loft, overlooking the lower level. The service was very attentive and eager to assist in interpreting the menu and answering questions about the food. The food?! The food was fantastic! From the cod cakes, to the sausage with beans, to the cod salad, the food was fresh, authentic and intentional. If you're ever in Lisbon, this place is a must! read more

This is a small tavern recommended to us by the hotel staff when we asked for recommendation for Portuguese food. They accommodated us even when we didn't have reservation but the space is so small and tables are so close to each other. Final dinner in Portugal... The two of us started off with the mixed plate of cheese, blood sausage and prosciutto. Pretty standard. My SO also got the chicken gizzards with peri peri. It was not spicy, which we were wary of. He liked it. I don't eat organs, but I tried the sauce and it was delicious. The roasted pork cheek on mashed potatoes was fantastic! So flavorful! Loved the pickled onions which helped balance out the richness. A must get! I ordered the shrimp with pasta and while the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, the shrimp was a little overcooked and it wasn't deveined. It was ok. Very good service. We walked in on a Friday evening and they were able to accommodate our party of two right away. Get the roasted pork cheek! read more

Great food and very quiet atmosphere at this place. Octopus was very tasty and would recommend although a bit oily as is typical of the dish though. DO NOT skip dessert get the baked apple you will not be disappointed. The restaurant is exceptionally small which adds to the charm. Food is actually cooked upstairs and sent via small elevator to the bottom floor. The whole experience is very endearing and much more authentic than the restaurant circus of Rua Augusta. We made a reservation. Not a far walk from our hotel. We started with bacalahau com natas. It was flavorful and creamy. Also had the grilled sardines. Perfectly cooked. Tender. Great flavor. Seafood risotto is more a seafood rice. A lot of clam shells and shrimp. I asked for a separate plate so that I could remove all of the debris before delving in. Had a good flavor. Rice was cooked well. The lamb stew was a little tough whee meat was concerned. The vegetables on the side were cooked well. Service was excellent. Very homey and quaint feeling. We weren't rushed even though it was very busy. Dessert was cheesecake that had an excellent texture and flavor. Complementary ginja with our espresso was the perfect ending. A nice & cozy place off the side of a busy tourist street. It seems quite popular but we were lucky to be seated as walk-ins. We were seated upstairs which was nice for its quiet and intimate nature but a bit problematic when it was time for us to leave as we felt forgotten. Started off with fried sardines & fried vegetables which were both alright. Then moved onto the steak and shrimp pasta - the shrimp pasta was probably one of the top dishes I've had in Lisbon! My favorite restaurant in Lisbon. We still discuss this meal lol and plan to go back for more soon! Be sure to make a reservation because they do get booked up. We were lucky we were walk ins and they were able to seat us because of a no-show. The food was amazing. We had the bacalhau and the risotto which were perfection. All of the servers were really nice and accommodating, answered any questions! They even suggested how we could best enjoy our appetizer. It was a great experience. We enjoyed an excellent dinner last night at Taberna da Baixa. The servers were all friendly and helpful, especially Sharmila who took great care of us. The restaurant is small and homey. Everyone loved their entrees, including a pork cheeks stew, Bacalhua a bras, seafood risotto, mushroom risotto and spaghetti & meatballs. I have mixed feelings about this place. It's a small cozy restaurant with an appealing and promising menu. The food was on point but not memorable, it missed the wow effect, I always order bread to enjoy the sauces and unfortunately ended up enjoying the bread alone. Their seafood risotto is more like a seafood rice and should be labeled that way to avoid over promises. It is worth checking them out but not sure about a repeat. read more

My private tour guide recommended this place. I went here for dinner on my last night in Lisbon. It didn't disappoint. The food seemed more homestyle so don't expect fancy stuff. I've been eating at TimeOut Market a lot and getting some of their fancy dishes so this is not the same. I'm glad I got to try this place. I got the pork cheeks and it was so soft and flavorful. The potatoes were boiled, sliced and put in olive oil. Definitely didn't see this at most other restaurants. We also tried the kale soup which didn't look appealing but tasted good. Seemed very simple but hit the spot. I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal. They speak English and most of the patrons were foreigners but I still got a good vibe from this place. I got some very tasty reserve red wine from Dao region for a reasonable price (8€ per glass). read more

Came to this restaurant based on a recommendation from our hotel receptionist who said the restaurant had very good bacalhau dishes. The restaurant did not disappoint. This isn't a touristy place, which we appreciated. We ordered the mixed meat and bacalhau dish, which were both very well prepared and delicious. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the fish was fresh and flaky (though it did also have some bones remaining, which is natural I suppose). We paired the meal with a nice Douro wine (ended up finishing the bottle with the great food), and we ended with some chocolate mousse and creme brulee. The waiter then gave us some shots of sweet sherry (alliteration intended) to cleanse our pallets. Overall the wait staff was very attentive and we had a very nice meal. Highly recommend. read more

One of the staff at our hotel (Marguerite at the My Story Tejo) recommended this restaurant on the day of arrival in Lisbon. It was wonderful. We had a late lunch that day and returned for dinner a few nights later. Although it was after 9PM, it was packed and we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. The food was very traditional and delicious. Between lunch and dinner we tried about a half dozen different things and all were great. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was very inexpensive as well. Most of the diners were locals. My only regret was that I didn't get the pork cheeks! read more
