This is a true local hang out spot with authentic Portuguese food. Just look at the notable stickers on the door with their recognition and reviews. The staff may not be able to speak that much English (or any other language for that matter) but don't worry because you came for the food and wine. Take a look at the pictures and go for yourself, you'll love it!

What an authentic Portuguese atmosphere! I loved it and the wait staff spoke English and were friendly. The menu had lots of choices in both food and wine. I would eat there again.

Fiancé and I wanted to try a "mom and pop" nearby and saw the reviews for this location, so we made a pit stop. The shop is managed by a husband and wife that speaks minimal English, but they are amazing. From their demeanor and service, I was extra eager to dine in. Food came out in a timely manner and I truly felt that they made the food with their heart and souls. It was very endearing watching them cater to their customers. I felt that the food was a little too salty for my taste, but my fiancé loved everything. The 5 kinds of empanadas were a nice appetizer! Portions were perfect. The freshly fried fries and potato chips were nice. Tasted very fresh. FYI for foreign diners, they DO take card :)

Fantastic little place with friendly owners, probably the family. Although the place looked full, the owners cleared the table and seated us down. The menu is not so extensive, but all is fresh, generous and tasty. Table wine is affordable and goes well with food. The glass of Port at the end is on the house. Perhaps I said too much and my chance to find a table here next time just diminished.

Sea bass - so fresh and light!

My family and I went in here one night because it was close to our hotel - it turned out to be a complete gem! This is such a charming family run restaurant, the service is prompt and friendly, and the food is unbelievably fresh. I ordered the sea bass because it was recommended to me by our waiter, and it was delicious and healthy. Everyone in my party highly enjoyed their meals, and we even splurged for a homemade dessert. All their cakes were very good - it doesn't matter which one you choose, it will be a good choice. I'll revisit this place next time I'm in Portugal.

As others have noted, Floresta is a gem as a family run small restaurant that delivers fresh from the sea fish prepared simply in order to allow the quality of the food to speak for itself. Prices are very reasonable. For instance, a bottle of house wine is only $10.00 or you can purchase it by the glass. We started with the recommended vegetable soup which had been blended into s luscious bisque consistency yet without cream. Delicious. We also had a half order of goat cheese with quince jelly. Very creamy and pungent. They brought us a small boulle of homemade crusty sourdough bread with it. My wife ordered the squid, shrimp and sausage skewer which came with a crisp green salad with a house vinaigrette. She smiled ear to ear throughout the meal, marveling at the perfect, yet simple preparation. I had the grilled squid which was perfect; tender, juicy and barely charred just right on the edges and tentacles, accompanied by small gold potatoes and salad. We truly enjoyed the whole experience for a price of about $45.00 We walked back to our hotel glad to have the walk along the quaint, narrow cobblestone streets of Central Lisbon.

Came here our first night in Lisbon and it was a nice intro to Portuguese food there. It really set the bar for what to expect during our stay here. This by no means is a high end restaurant, but the service was great, prices were decent and the food quality was pretty good. Really liked the grilled swordfish.

Walking distance from Hotel Tivoli. An inexpensive neighborhood restaurant with about half locals and half tourists. The Portuguese swordfish was great tasting. It had bones so you had to eat carefully, but worth the effort. Comes with baked and seasoned potatoes and a mixed salad. Also had shrimp starter which was wonderful. I recommend this restaurant to taste an authentic Portuguese meal. Not expensive too.

2 types of fish paste. Aren't we lucky :-\

Worth the Climb When you visit a restaurant in a new country they can serve you anything, call it "authentic local cuisine" and you're none the wiser. 'Stale' bread and fish paste, fit for the cat, are part of your "authentic" accompaniment and both are rank rotten, but... If you don't touch your accompaniment then you don't pay for it and you only pay for the amount of house wine you consume from the bottle(s). The fresh grilled Rock Bass (€12) and The Veal (€8.50) were fantastic and the, bend-over backwards, helpful service was more than we could hope for. Free port and a crackin' relaxing atmosphere helped us sink into our chairs, we were staying put!

Its a family restaurant, what you should look for in Lisbon, Petro the son/partner was so friendly and welcoming even though we walk in 5 minutes to closing. If you look for fresh , quality, homemade grilled seafood this is the place.

Chicken and bacon skewers with salad and homemade crisps. Full of flavour!

This was our first official meal in Lisbon, a reservation for 9:45 pm dinner on a Wednesday, and it was a great introduction to Portuguese food. The street at the entrance was empty and quiet, and there weren't many people inside, presumably because it was late. Service was excellent, they were very nice, told us to take our time despite our late reservation. Pumpkin soup was the appetizer, and it was delicious. Creamy and hearty but somehow not heavy, with some tomato and meaty flavor that went well with the sweet pumpkin. Comes with some seeds and bread that you can dip the soup with. 5/5 Octopus-comes with some green peppers, quinoa, and a tomato paste/puree that gives it a light, slightly sweet, slightly spicy taste that went very well with the octopus. This is a great summer dish. Interestingly the thin end of the octopus was not that crispy, maybe that was the intention, but the entire tentacle taste and texture was pretty homogenized. 4.5/5 Risotto- also has pumpkin, but more savory with cheese and butter, topped with leek and I belive has mushrooms. Not sure how they're getting away with using heavy ingredients coming together to become a light dish, but they're pulling it off perfectly. Price was also very reasonable. We did get asked about tip, which not all restaurants in Lisbon do, but we felt tip was deserving at this establishment.

The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

I had read in Yelp that lines could be long, but we arrived early. They have a little red rope at the door where they explain the rules. The interior is kind of eclectic. They have wines at three price points, we got a really nice bottle of red called Pops reserve. For the tapas, we ordered the assorted cheeses, octopus risotto, duck breast with chips (not normally on the menu), and ceviche. All were superb. We started with the duck and ceviche. The duck was braised perfectly and seasoned well, wonderful. Then the ceviche had swordfish and tuna. I am not normally a sword fan, but this was very tasty. Next up were the cheese and risotto. The risotto was incredible, buttery and delicious. The cheese plate had 5 cheeses of different intensity. All were great, particularly the goat ones. It came with a pumpkin jam which I had never had before, but was very good. I definitely recommend this place
