I went back and forth between three and four stars, and came to the conclusion I had higher hopes being on vacation and Europe has always had a higher standard for me with food compared to the United States. Inside was classically decorated with many square tables that could be rearranged for groups of 1-2 or larger. We did not need a reservation but it was a Tuesday night at 8pm. Service was friendly but could felt similar to the service you get in many tourist restaurants and the idea of American tipping seems to be taking root. Food portions were hearty and seemed to be a more formal take on Portuguese comfort food (I imagine). Restaurante Duque in Lisbon was very good. They actually have two locations; a main addressed and signed location and an overflow location a few doors down. Both spots were full, so a reservation is recommended. We ordered the Octopus and the Steak with Fried Chips. The Octopus was tender and the taste was fantastic. The steak was a little thin but very good. The fresh fried potato chips were excellent. The interior was nicely decorated, tight, and had a homely vibe. I had high hopes for Duque, as it got good reviews from several different sources. Maybe they had an off night? The oven roasted octopus was alright. I liked the fried leeks and sweet potato mash that came with it. The vegetable braz with truffled oil was...interesting? Funny, one of the staff came to drop it off and she timidly placed it on the table, said what it was as if she was waiting for us to object to the dish. It did the job of getting a veggie serving into our diet that evening. The sirloin steak was pretty bad: overcooked, dry and tough. We ordered it medium rare and it came out medium. The photo I took actually looks like it would be ok, but looks can be deceiving. The potatoes were good: nice and crispy. Cute ambiance. They have several restaurants down this street. My husband and I found this intimate place while visiting Lisbon. I made a reservation. We were about 15 minutes late, but fortunately we were still able to get a table. I loved the interesting atmosphere. I ordered the osso bucco which was delicious but also surprisingly tough and chewy. We mentioned it to the server and they were gracious enough to take it off the bill and offer us a yummy layered dessert in a small mason jar. My husband was happy with his dinner. My wife and I were in Lisbon for a week and finished a Tuc-Tuc tour on our first day and I found this place on Yelp. It was pretty close to our hotel. I ordered a big beer to start off and we got some olive and hummus appetizer. Really good. Our service was quiet but she was nice. I ordered the full sea bring. Oh, so good. This should be the #1 restaurant in Lisbon right now. The food is so worth it and the price is shockingly inexpensive. We ordered the white fish ceviche, duque's cod & oven roasted octupus. The sauce for the octupus dish was so creamy and sweet potato-ey it's not something you find in a seafood dish but it fits right in! Everything we ordered was a 10/10. If u dont like soury food, the ceviche was sour x2. The restaurant itself was really quaint and small but consisted of 4 other rooms next to each other. Hidden away on a side street in the heart of Lisbon, this spot takes up about half the block it's located in. They do take reservations and thankfully they were able to seat us early. They essentially have 4 different spaces they occupy so they check where they have room. We were seated in the "first room" and had a great table to watch all the action. We shared the "fish for 2" after some shareables (goat cheese with jam and croquettes) and it was so delicious. It's not often I eat whole cooked fish (I believe 2 of the fish were Sardines and Sebring) but it was very tasty all around. The third fish was salmon which was a steak cut. They have a few different spots so depending on availability, you may be down the street from their original location but it's all the same. I had the seafood rice and it was AMAZING! We showed up two hours before they closed and they told us the bar and kitchen wanted to leave so we had to order fast, they definitely were rushing us and made us feel unwelcome, even though more people came in after us. A bit of a walk away from the main drag but o so worth it. With three rooms down the same sidestreet it is likely you will not have to wait. We followed a Yelper here and confirmed by other review sites, this is a fantastic local feeling place, although I suspect about half the people are tourists. Lisbon is known for codfish and other seafood, so I made sure to try a few dishes while I was in town. My dinner at Duque Restaurant was the best meal I had during my stay. The cozy space has tables packed pretty close together, but it didn't bother me at all. The service was welcoming and prompt. I started with codfish croquettes, served with hummus. For the main course, I had grilled seabass with cabbage and potatoes. This dish tasted as excellent as the presentation. I couldn't resist dessert and went for the banana mousse, which was served in a petite mason jar. The check came in a stylish black and gold box that resembled a clutch. That was a nice touch! This was by far by favorite restaurant in Lisbon. It was so good, I visited twice during my trip. It's very small but I managed to show up without a reservation twice and didn't have a problem getting a seat. It's probably because both times I went close to opening so I likely beat the rush. The staff was super nice and accommodating. Even though it's a small location, I didn't feel rushed by the waitstaff either time. The food was excellent. I had the steak the first time and the octopus the second time. My friend and I shared the octopus salad and the ceviche which were both very tasty as well. Everything was so fresh and the portion sizes were great. I also tried the house green wine for the first time and had 2 glasses (that was definitely my limit as it's very strong). Such a delicious spot in the heart of Lisbon that has a lot of seafood options. We came here wanting to have seafood and heard good things about Duque. We were able to be seated as a table of four immediately right around their opening for dinner. They have three different areas for seating so if there isn't room in one spot you can walk down the street and sit elsewhere. It has an older authentic feel inside. Googling for a good place to eat we found Duque. When we made it, it was packed only to have a waiter asked us to follow him to a second location a few doors down. Later we found they even have a third another few doors down. I suppose it's very difficult for a place in Lisbon to have a large (flat) space since it's so hilly in Portugal so given it's popularity it needs to have three separate locations. The seafood rice had quite a lot of seafood, but almost destroyed by the large amount of acid in it. A local gem that you need to book at as it only has about 30 covers..... An original delightful non fussy neighbourhood eatery that offers a few dishes cooked well. We just walked in but it can get busy for dinner, however they walked us over to another section of their restaurant that's separate from the main dining room and it worked out fine. The food was incredibly delicious and extremely affordable (by American standards at least). My friend has celiac and we successfully ate here without her having any issues!
