My favorite traditional Portuguese restaurant in Lisbon. Everything from the food to the setting was phenomenal. The kitchen is open and wrapped in glass so you could watch the chef prepare the dishes. I had the best grilled octopus during our entire trip, which is saying a lot since it seems that every kitchen in Portugal does it well. The grilled sardines and sea bream (fish of the day) were both fresh. The traditional house steak is a bit chewier than American steak cuts, but I immensely liked the garlic and gravy sauce. The rice with vegetables on the steak plate was also unexpectedly delicious and one of my favorite things about the dinner.

Fish of the day - very well cooked!

We came to this little restaurant for our first meal in Lisbon, and had a great meal. When we arrived we were the only customers so a little hesitant but honestly the food was so flavorful. It's a small little restaurant but cozy with a good atmosphere. We got the fish of the day, soup of the day, and a steak dish that came with rice, fries, and amazingly delicious black beans cooked in meat sauce. Everything was well cooked and perhaps the only ding was that the steak had a large strip of fat that I had to remove. Service was good!

This is the Portuguese meal I dreamed of having for months. The service was quick and the waiters were all very attentive. We went at 6pm so it wasn't busy at all. It's a very cute restaurant that feels very welcoming. It's located right by the Rossio train station and easy to miss if you're walking by. The octopus was so tender and the steak (not pictured) was just as incredible. Everything was so flavorful and fresh. Don't miss out on this spot!!

Grilled octopus is fork tender and very flavourful

Some of the best octopus I've had in years... wife had the fish of the day. Staff was friendly and attentive. While I do speak portuguese they also speak English. Little spot hidden off the beaten path that you should not miss...

Everytime I'm in Lisbon, this place is a must-go. the whole octopus is delicious and so, so tender. for the uninitiated, they could find it a bit salty, but it really is the garlic slices that are salty... or just drink more wine! the sardines you must order as well, they are really fresh and grilled to order. The house special steak is decent, but i could see people finding it a bit chewy if not properly tempering expectations of a cheap steak. The squid ink pasta with shrimps was also quite good. Everything is priced very afforadably and a great spot to dine at. It has become quite touristy over the last few years, but the food and service remains good. they have definitely built a good reputation.

If you are looking for chicken, this is the spot. Plus the spicy sauce is amazing! Comes with fries (very good) and rice

**CASH ONLY BUSINESS** The place was packed on a June Monday at 7:45pm. We waited for about 8 mins for a table. We decided to go with a soup and forgo drinks since we know we will feel full of liquid from the soup itself. The soup of the day came at 8:11pm. It is a soup full of flavour -- tasted like a butternut squash soup. Big portions for EUR2.50. The grilled salmon and grilled cod came at 8:24pm. The grilled salmon (EUR10): as a girl from Western Canada who had eaten tons of salmon, I know when a fish tasted old, and the salmon here tonight unfortunately tasted stale and over-salted. The vegetables are good. Large portions for the price. The grilled cod (EUR11): huge portion of cod. The plate is swimming in oil and I'm not used to that much oil and salt. The fish was cooked thoroughly even when it is so thick. The staff are all male and they are all nice and friendly. Overall, good experience (minus 1 for over salting and stale salmon). Will recommend!

Sooo.. if you have had your share or sardines and octopus and just looking for that CHANGE... we tried the El Rei.... There have been lines outside for dinner so we decided they must be worth a visit... ambience is ok, little cramped inside and the attitude is "we don't need business".... But the chefs toiling around in the kitchen do a wonderful with food. .. we tried the cod fritters, they were perfect with crispy shell, and soft and creamy inside with perfect balance of salt. Then I went for the sprouted lentil burger, ohh man!!! That was delicious!!... the texture and taste, home made mayonnaise, caramelized onions just mouth watering. We also ordered a octopus salad, which was decent enough. Would I go back again, maybe on the fence on this one.

Food is delightfully tasty. The vegetarian chickpea, carrot and parsley burger with bun was a perfect balance of bun, patty, cheese and veggies.

Very good. The best sardines and softest tastiest octopus so far. Small place, but no lines. Didn't wait at all. Great quality.

The restaurant was quaint and intimate , with a small buffet that easily fills you up. There were many options from a beef stew to a curry, a noodle dish with bacon, salad, and other options. They even explained the options to us. I truly wish we had more time in Lisbon because I would have definitely returned to try it again as the options differ nightly. I would definitely recommend this to all in Lisbon.

Cozy, almost romantic atmosphere. And just €16 per person for all you can eat! The menu changes nightly so here were the stars for me: Creamed cod. Might not sound appetizing but this was insanely good. Not too fishy. Veggie lasagna - really great flavors and you sneak in some vegetables. All the sides: mashed potatoes were delicious, the rice is a staple, the couscous was perfect, the carrot soup made me say DAMN! The service was amazing. The two gentleman there ran an entire packed restaurant effortlessly. Helping customers with drinks, explaining the concept and each dish to every person that came in. We washed it down with a pitcher of white sangria (drinks and desserts are extra). We literally couldn't move. We walked back to the hotel instead of taking an Uber simply to walk some of it off. One of the most memorable meals I had in Lisbon.
