    Grilled Cod

Excellent dinning experience. After a day of sightseeing we stopped at Santa Rita. Courteous and friendly staff with a very pleasant and comfortable setting. For the main course we ordered the grilled octopus and grilled cod. Both meals were superb. Excellent quality, perfectly prepared, moderate price. Highly recommended.

Little charming restaurant that serves good food at a good value. There is a small dining room downstairs and a very cozy looking loft that overlooks the downstairs. It is a few streets away from the main paseo so it's much more quiet and less chaotic. The food is fairly standard Portuguese menu but everything is delicious and well prepared. They even have a few selection of 'Asian' dishes but I would say it's not very authentic. Overall a great choice away from the hustle and bustle.

We stumbled upon this gem last summer as we were walking around Lisbon. We very nearly missed it, but the doors were open and we caught whiff of amazing and flavorful scents as we walked by. We stopped and turned around and looked in to see the restaurant packed full of local workers along with a couple stray tourists. So we went in and had the most amazing and authentic lunch! Absolutely delish! The waiter didn't speak English and our Portuguese was very limited but we were able to communicate enough to order and enjoy some fabulous fare. And such a deal price-wise too! If we find ourselves in Lisbon again, we'll definitely be back!

Whoa, I can tell you you can a lot of bang for your buck here or euro. Started off with a pitcher of sangria. My wife said it was some of the best she's had in the city. Did I mention you get a lot for your money... next on to the grilled sardines...I guess that's an acquired taste because neater my wife or myself liked them...but they sure did look appetizing on the plate when they came out...maybe with some beer and saltine crackers on a fishing trip, my opinion would be different because I love sardines in the can... next the seafood rice.... delicious.. down to the last spoonful... again did mention how reasonable the prices are... last the desert... they were out of the rice pudding... so no desert... I must mentioned they charge for everything..water, bread, butter, only thing they didn't charge me for was the napkins and silverware.... but even with all those hidden charges the price was still reasonable. I'll be back to Santa Rita next time I'm in town. Like I promised, I came back and I think it was even better after a long day in Porto.

Took a minute to find at first because there isn't a large header over the door or anything, but then in retrospect it should have been easy to spot because it was packed with customers. It's buzzing with conversation and bustling with servers shouting orders back and forth -- you'll like it. I waited for a couple minutes before being seated by an energetic server and was promptly brought some really decent bread and tapas style olives. I got the large seafood rice (and heck it's big -- the waiter quipped that I must be hungry) and a half pitcher of sangria and was served within five minutes, which is really impressive given how busy they were (I had to wait about five minutes for a seat). I expected the rice to be a bit more flavorful, but it was still decent with a tasty broth, plenty of seafood, and a fresh cilantro garnish. Also, it was a hefty amount of food for a good price. It may be the sangria talking, but I recommend the sangria.

Grilled sardines with grilled green peppers. Fresh, tender, flavorful, crispy crackly salty skins and moist, delicate flesh. SARDINE HEAVEN.

For sheer value-for-money, I could go five stars. Let's call it 4.5. After a late afternoon visit to Castelo de São Jorge, I turned to Yelp to help me find a reasonably-priced restaurant in the area, serving authentic Portuguese cuisine. So glad I did, because Santa Rita is an absolute gem. It's tucked away on a hilly little side street. You could easily miss it as you scamper your way back down the hill to downtown Lisbon. But walk through the doors and you'll find a bustling little hive of activity. Happy, relaxed diners, attentive waitstaff, and food, glorious food, being shuttled out of the kitchen constantly. The staff spoke some English and I'd been dutifully memorizing some Portuguese phrases. Service went rather smoothly, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I ordered a small glass of sangria (delicious!), a plate of grilled sardines, and a small bowl of seafood rice. The server gave me that "ain't that a lot of food, woman" look but how could I resist at roughly 5 Euro a dish? As I planned my trip to Lisbon, one thing I fantasized about was perfectly prepared sardines. WELL I GOT THEM. These were extremely fresh, beautifully presented, with crispy and crackly skin on the outside and tender, moist, delicate flesh on the inside. The stuff of SARDINE DREAMS. The seafood rice was tasty but not quite as good as the sardine dish. But given that it was a huge bowl and cost only about 5 or 6 Euro, I really can't complain. It was full of seafood and a nice, comforting bowl of warm tomatoe-y carby goodness. I would definitely return, and I warmly recommend this spot as a nice place to relax and have dinner. I dined solo and was seated rather quickly. I did notice that groups had to wait a bit especially as the night wore on, so if you're able, you might want to call in advance for a reservation.

Santa Rita was exactly what I expected to be. After reading the other reviews, I knew this restaurant offered great value for food. We are able to order an appetizer, 2 drinks, 3 mains and dessert for €33. We were looking for a close by restaurant with a lot of options and Santa Rita was exactly that. It's a very simple restaurant, with no decorations, no presentation, but with excellent service. We ordered the calamari, grilled sardines, tuna steak, and the bacalhau, with passion fruit mousse for dessert. Everything was just ok, lacked a little flavour, or was difficult to eat (the sardines and bacalhau had a lot of tiny bones). The passion fruit mousse however, was absolutely amazing. For the price, I would return to this restaurant and try their other dishes. It's a 3 star at best, but that's what we expected before going there.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. Two DELICIOUS meals, jar of wine, bread and olives all for 20€. It is a very open and dining hall feel (hopefully you get to sit next to someone cool) but the food is UNREAL. Perfect in Lisbon for a cheap and quality meal. Went twice during my stay. I recommend this place to everyone!!

Great good, great prices and good service. Cod is a very small portion though, so don't order it if you are very hungry.

It's rotisserie chicken doused with a spicy hot sauce so what's not to like? I knew it was a Portuguese-originated dish, so I looked for a place famous for it. Here on a Sunday evening, there was quite a queue extending up the cobblestone alley, so I realized this must be the place. Although it was at least thirty people deep, it didn't take more than twenty minutes for Jamie W and me to secure a table upstairs. It was a homestyle dining room set-up that hovered between cozy and crowded depending on the fluctuating volume level. Interestingly all the servers were male, and while ours was the most junior, he consciously followed the behavior of his veteran brethren. There was no question about our main course, the 13,5€ Frango Assado No Espeto (Roast Chicken on the Spit) (Photo 7). It was tender and succulent enough albeit a bit under seasoned, all the more reason to pour a liberal dose of the piri piri sauce (Photo 8). Our sides were simple but shareable, the 3,2€ Batata Fritta (French Fries) (Photo 9) and the 4,3€ Salada Mista (Mixed Salad) (Photo 10). Both were fine, though we really wanted to try their Cream Spinach. They were already out of it in the kitchen. We were quite satisfied nonetheless, and their service pretty much worked like clockwork. Jamie and I agreed we'd definitely come back if the passion for poultry strikes us on a return trip to Lisbon. In the meanwhile, I'll just do a run to Costco, buy a rotisserie chicken, and dream of Portugal. A small line of one or two groups at a time formed throughout the night. We were seated outside and there was a street performer with an acoustic guitar - def added some great vibes to the night. It was a chilly December night but the heater provided *just enough* warmth. We ordered the codfish cakes which were alright - nothing too special. Since it was a little cold out, I also ordered the chicken broth. It was bland, but good in its own way. There was some rice and chicken bits in it that tasted really good. The rotisserie chicken that they are known for was EXTREMELY salty. We were a group of 6 and ordered 2.5 rotisserie chicken (so 5 pieces) but this was actually way too much. It's a little better (but still salty) if you don't eat the skin, but that's the best part given how crispy it was! I tried to drown out the saltiness by using the piri piri sauce and it helped a little bit... but biting into the chicken meant biting into the undissolved salt bits. Given how salty it was, we could not finish it at all and left behind 3 pieces. Service itself was meh. They made sure to inform us that the tip was not included in the bill.
