So sad! We walked for 30 minutes just to get here and were welcomed with this sign! So sad to not be able to experience this place.

2 fish of the day comes with potato and salad. Red wine sangria which was worth the add.

Probably the best fish I had on my trip to Portugal, seasoned beautifully and grilled to crispy skin perfection. Also the dessert selection is amazing! They bring out a tray to demonstrate all the options. Best way to upsell a meal I've ever seen The restaurant is very tiny and tables are crammed in. You will most likely have a short wait but I think it's worth it.

This Portuguese quaint restaurant was referred by our tuk tuk driver Nuno Bessa of tuk tuk tours. Great host and even better restaurant suggestion. The food here was exceptional. Fast service, great customer service with a family feel. You will not be disappointed. Cheers eat up

Last night and eating where the locals eat. Enjoyed a delicious white wine cod fritters (patanisca), grilled cod, grilled Lubina. For dessert they bring out a dessert tray. Had chocolate mousse and the coconut mousse. Ended with a café

Wow! Our Tuk Tuk driver took us here to enjoy ginja, a very sweet brandy with sour cherry. When the servers found out we were American, they got so excited they made us Cuba Libres. We didn't have any pastries, but they looked delicious. What a fun little stop!

I think this was my favorite meal in Lisboa, Portugal. We stumbled across it and it was open when others were closed between lunch and dinner. The place was full both times we went. A jug of good wine was a great price and the codfish cakes with beans and rice was my favorite. I got the fried clams and they are not fried. They look steamed. Maybe they are cooked different but they were good and plentiful. But the beans and rice that come with the cod cakes were the best! And the Cod cakes were also very tasty. We went twice with 3 people each time and everyone left full and happy. What a local feeling establishment. And just what I want whenever I go to Lisbon!

One of my top three restaurants in Lisboa! Great wine, great service and awesome food. Their octopus is always tender and their cod is always delicious! This one of the reasons I visit

After seeing the YouTube vlog of Mark Weins and since I was in the area, tried to popped in early in the restaurant. And I was the first costumers they served! This is the taste of real authentic Portuguese cuisine. This restaurant deserves a Michelin star!!!

Carne de Porco à alentejana (pork with clams) The best meal I had in Lisbon.

When it comes to visiting a restaurant in another country, I am picky since my time to try food is limited. I first heard about Merendinha do Arco after seeing Mark Wiens rave review on his youtube vlog. And, I knew I just had to try it! I am so glad I did. Can't believe I did not write my review sooner. Immediately, I was seated upon entry and offered water and a menu. My waiter was very attentive to my needs and also brought fresh bread, butter, and cheese right away. While it was a simple appetizer, it was very tasty and satisfying. For my main course, I ordered the Carne de Porco à alentejana (pork with clams) that came with a side of house-made chips, tomato, and lettuce. After two months, I am still raving about this dish. I can not even pick a favorite part of the dish. Each portion of the meal was so good, and I enjoyed every bite that was bursting with flavor. The pork was very tender, and the bread layered underneath simply terrific. The seasonings the chef added in the sauce/juice made everything come together perfectly. When the juices seeped into the chips and the bread, the taste made me want more. Actually, I was determined to eat everything on my plate because I did not want to waste a single bit. Needless to say, when I return to Lisbon this restaurant will definitely be one of my first stops. The atmosphere is casual and inviting. Give it a try if you ever visit.

The codfish dumpling fusion was a pleasant surprise, creamy on the inside and a nice chewy gyoza wrapper. The octopus rice was good too. A decent amount of octopus with rice in a smoked bell pepper sauce. I was disappointed by the seafood pasta soup though. I liked the mussels, but the shrimp and the clams weren't the freshest. The clams were a little mushy. It had a nice seafood stock flavor, but definitely could have used more salt and seasoning. We had mixed service from one of the female servers.

We started with a glass of wine and a specialty cocktail with gin and cherry liqueur as a base. Perfect balance of herbal and tart and sweet. We shared the amberjack ceviche which was fresh and bright and then the rich & creamy prawn risotto. All beautifully executed. We each ordered a glass of 20 year port to celebrate my birthday and the staff overheard and brought a complimentary rich chocolate dessert. Very enjoyable meal all the way around.

It's rotisserie chicken doused with a spicy hot sauce so what's not to like? I knew it was a Portuguese-originated dish, so I looked for a place famous for it. Here on a Sunday evening, there was quite a queue extending up the cobblestone alley, so I realized this must be the place. Although it was at least thirty people deep, it didn't take more than twenty minutes for Jamie W and me to secure a table upstairs. It was a homestyle dining room set-up that hovered between cozy and crowded depending on the fluctuating volume level. Interestingly all the servers were male, and while ours was the most junior, he consciously followed the behavior of his veteran brethren. There was no question about our main course, the 13,5€ Frango Assado No Espeto (Roast Chicken on the Spit) (Photo 7). It was tender and succulent enough albeit a bit under seasoned, all the more reason to pour a liberal dose of the piri piri sauce (Photo 8). Our sides were simple but shareable, the 3,2€ Batata Fritta (French Fries) (Photo 9) and the 4,3€ Salada Mista (Mixed Salad) (Photo 10). Both were fine, though we really wanted to try their Cream Spinach. They were already out of it in the kitchen. We were quite satisfied nonetheless, and their service pretty much worked like clockwork. Jamie and I agreed we'd definitely come back if the passion for poultry strikes us on a return trip to Lisbon. In the meanwhile, I'll just do a run to Costco, buy a rotisserie chicken, and dream of Portugal. A small line of one or two groups at a time formed throughout the night. We were seated outside and there was a street performer with an acoustic guitar - def added some great vibes to the night. It was a chilly December night but the heater provided *just enough* warmth. We ordered the codfish cakes which were alright - nothing too special. Since it was a little cold out, I also ordered the chicken broth. It was bland, but good in its own way. There was some rice and chicken bits in it that tasted really good. The rotisserie chicken that they are known for was EXTREMELY salty. We were a group of 6 and ordered 2.5 rotisserie chicken (so 5 pieces) but this was actually way too much. It's a little better (but still salty) if you don't eat the skin, but that's the best part given how crispy it was! I tried to drown out the saltiness by using the piri piri sauce and it helped a little bit... but biting into the chicken meant biting into the undissolved salt bits. Given how salty it was, we could not finish it at all and left behind 3 pieces. Service itself was meh. They made sure to inform us that the tip was not included in the bill.

He will talk to you for hours and teach you about food and wine and culture and talk about the history of food and how it came to be in Portugal. I loved it. I learned so much. I aspire, as an American, to learn from and look up to other cultures. I feel very honored to have dined in a restaurant managed by him on our trip to Portugal. I'm going to recommend to our travel coordinator to add this restaurant to the Google map recommendations list because more people need to go to this place - they need more tables, more space, because I'm convinced this is such a hidden gem that should be exposed to the masses to enjoy! We visited several wineries and this restaurant had the best wine - bar none! The fish, a fish I hadn't tried before, was deliciously seasoned, falls apart with the fork, the creamy rice was just divine. I normally will never eat little cherry/grape tomatoes - ever - but the perfect bite of fish, creamy rice, and a tomato was... perfection. The menu is deeply curated; flavors - textures - wines that make sense. You can tell Frederico what you normally like and he 100% knows what wines he has that you will love. The tomato, orange, ham, salad, was absolutely balanced and delicious. I'm so grateful that our first trip to Portugal we got to meet Frederico and dine with these wonderful people who love food and wine as much as us. I'll never forget it as long as I live. You will not be disappointed. Promise.
