    I can't really say that my experience here was typical as it occurred as part of a food tour of a dozen people. As well, we were informed that this particular cod dish isn't always on the menu. But here we are and we had a fantastic plate of cod (look out for bones!) with roasted vegetables and the most amazing fried potato chips. All this served with an ice cold vino verde. This very cute restaurant is about as authentic Portuguese and non-touristy as you're going to get. Be prepared to point and translate the menu into English. And that's okay because the meal was amazing. [Review 16602 overall - 119 in Portugal - 112 of 2022.]

    Went to Lisbon for 9 days and this was the best restaurant there! Homey authentic cooking with daily menu. They brought out complimentary bread, cheese, and olives to start. The wine was a great pair with the food. Everything was cheap, tasty, and very filling. I got the turkey steak and it was grilled to perfection. The seasoning was plain, seemed like just salt and olive oil but it was done so well. Came around 30 minutes before closing and it was a 15 minute wait. Cash only!

    I mentioned to the owner of my Airbnb in Italy that I'd be spending a half day in Lisbon thanks to a long layover and he said they he knew where I should go eat. He said that in the past he'd always been disappointed eating in Lisbon because all of the restaurants were for tourists, but FINALLY he'd found real, traditional Portuguese food at this little place called O Trigueirinho. He was right! We found our way to O Trigueirinho and were the first customers in the door for lunch. It was delicious! I had the bacalhau in cream sauce which turned out to be a casserole of cod and potatoes and tasted like a British fish pie. It was so good. My husband had the tuna dish, which were told is their specialty. The restaurant filled up quickly and I can see why. I know that when I return to Lisbon in the future for a real visit, I will be back for more!

    Good traditional foods but long wait for food and seats. Make sure to get the desserts, the coffee egg pudding in the cup is amazing. This place is also cash only.

    If you like to try what the locals eat this is definitely the place to go. No fanfare, simple home made meals, with the most delicious taste. Fresh fish on the grill and fresh calamari (the whole thing! beak and all!). What a great place.

    Wonderful local gem! Had the sea bass and pork dish with potatoes - absolutely delicious. And the dessert...highly recommend!

Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.

It's rotisserie chicken doused with a spicy hot sauce so what's not to like? I knew it was a Portuguese-originated dish, so I looked for a place famous for it. Here on a Sunday evening, there was quite a queue extending up the cobblestone alley, so I realized this must be the place. Although it was at least thirty people deep, it didn't take more than twenty minutes for Jamie W and me to secure a table upstairs. It was a homestyle dining room set-up that hovered between cozy and crowded depending on the fluctuating volume level. Interestingly all the servers were male, and while ours was the most junior, he consciously followed the behavior of his veteran brethren. There was no question about our main course, the 13,5€ Frango Assado No Espeto (Roast Chicken on the Spit) (Photo 7). It was tender and succulent enough albeit a bit under seasoned, all the more reason to pour a liberal dose of the piri piri sauce (Photo 8). Our sides were simple but shareable, the 3,2€ Batata Fritta (French Fries) (Photo 9) and the 4,3€ Salada Mista (Mixed Salad) (Photo 10). Both were fine, though we really wanted to try their Cream Spinach. They were already out of it in the kitchen. We were quite satisfied nonetheless, and their service pretty much worked like clockwork. Jamie and I agreed we'd definitely come back if the passion for poultry strikes us on a return trip to Lisbon. In the meanwhile, I'll just do a run to Costco, buy a rotisserie chicken, and dream of Portugal. The chicken is pretty tasteless besides some of the skins with the marinated rub which then became too salty. I've had much much better piri piri chicken before so I was sorely disappointed.

We visited several wineries and this restaurant had the best wine - bar none! The fish, a fish I hadn't tried before, was deliciously seasoned, falls apart with the fork, the creamy rice was just divine. I normally will never eat little cherry/grape tomatoes - ever - but the perfect bite of fish, creamy rice, and a tomato was... perfection. The menu is deeply curated; flavors - textures - wines that make sense. You can tell Frederico what you normally like and he 100% knows what wines he has that you will love. The tomato, orange, ham, salad, was absolutely balanced and delicious. I'm so grateful that our first trip to Portugal we got to meet Frederico and dine with these wonderful people who love food and wine as much as us. I'll never forget it as long as I live. It was not crowded at all on a Friday night, and I was able to strike up a conversation with fellow diners and actually hear myself talk. That is rare these days. I was surprised they were offering Happy Hour pricing around 7 PM, so I quickly took advantage of a pitcher of sangria, which was delicious and incredibly fresh. I started with the chorizo, which you cook yourself right at the table. For my main course I ordered the steak with eggs, and it was excellent. To finish, I had the crème brûlée for dessert, and it was also outstanding. Overall, a truly wonderful hidden gem in Lisbon. I cannot wait to return.
