OK, Loved them when they were in their smaller venue, and I get the new location is great to expand, and bring in more customers. BUT, the food was mediocre. Yeah, tried the butcher board, it was good (expensive) couple of pizzas (simple ones), I like some char, but this time it was carbon under the pie. This place has been a long-time favorite of our family. Their menu has always had options to please all three generations of us when we go there. Unfortunately, that has changed. On our last visit, two of the three pizzas ordered were raw, soggy, and doughy in the middle. They were totally inedible. The first one was returned, and the staff immediately agreed it wasn't cooked properly and said they'd remake it. When the other raw one was returned, the staff said it was fine and they would not remake it. They were rude and dismissive to our sweet family member who took both pizzas back, and they did this in front of other customers. The remade first pizza also came out undercooked and inedible. The salad and sandwich ordered by other family members were okay. The indoor area was crowded and too noisy to carry on a conversation, so we had to sit outside on this blazing hot day. Fortunately, their outdoor area has fans and a wall on the west side that provides some relief from the heat. Our family met there to celebrate two birthdays. Pizza is pretty good, a little soupy, but good. The pastrami is probably the best pastrami I've ever had in my life. Absolutely get a plate of it because it's phenomenal. The staff is friendly and attentive, and there are a lot of good food options. Drinks are way too expensive though. I got an NA cocktail that was in a tiny plastic cup, mostly ice, and was $12. Ordering is a bit confusing, if you plan on dining in. (Or "out" should I say. The dining room is closed due to staff shortages.) You walk up to the window to pick up your order. We arrived right when they opened and didn't know you were to order ahead of time so the guy let us order from the window. Pizzas were both good. They don't have a kids menu so we ordered an entire pie just for our toddler and figured we could eat the leftovers for dinner. This is one of my favorite pizza restaurants in the Austin area. If you're a fan of Neopolitan style pizza and haven't tried Pieous, do put it on your short list! The red sauce has a delicate, delicious flavor that enhances any pie it graces. My go-to pizza is the margherita -- a simple pie with tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil parmigiana, and EVOO. Simply sublime. Pieous makes its own pastrami and mozzarella, and the choppy salad always has fresh, crispy romaine hearts, mozzarella, fire roasted garbanzo beans and a yummy house made dressing. Don't miss! Currently, only open for take out, but I'm looking forward to the day we can sit and enjoy a meal at the restaurant! My friends all raved about Pieous so much, it wasn't long before I NEEDED to pay this place a visit - their tales of the fabulous pies to be found here had induced serious cravings ;-) When we arrived there was a line that we ended up waiting in for almost twenty minutes, but the food here totally turned out to be worth the wait! Tip: The line can look daunting at times, but it moves along reasonably fast.  That said, it still tough to maintain one's composure on line while salivating from the amazing sights and smells ;-) The pizzas here looked to be personal sized, so the two of us (feeling hungry enough to join the Donner Party) ordered three pies and one Pastrami sandwich to share: - Pastrami Sandwich (1/2 pound of Pastrami, house-made sourdough bread, pickles (on the side) and your choice of yellow or whole-grain mustard) - When I think Pastrami, I think of deli's in NYC, but the Pastrami served here is excellent, very tasty, and totally legit!  The house-made bread is wonderful, and the whole-grain mustard totally compliments the flavor profile; a completely delicious sandwich :-) - Margherita Pizza (Tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil, parmigiana, extra-virgin olive oil).  We added italian sausage & artichoke to the pie, and the flavor of the toppings blended wonderfully.  The sausage was mild but well-seasoned, and the fresh basil and fresh mozzarella were excellent.  That said, the total star of this (and all the pizzas at Pieous) is the crust.  Made with sourdough flour and cooked to perfection, the crust is wonderfully chewy and flavorful; it's also firm enough at the bottom so that it held up wonderfully under the weight of the various toppings. - The Fat Queen (Tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, house-smoked Italian sausage, soppressata).  While all the pies we tried were very good, this one was my hands-down favorite!  Loaded to the brim with some seriously delicious meat toppings, this is one of the most amazing meat-lovers pies I recall tasting in recent memory - if you too are a meat lover, then you're simply NOT going to want to miss out :-) Honorable mention goes out to the Shroom Pizza and their deliciously addictive cheesecake.  The only problem with the latter is that after a couple of pizzas and some Pastrami, it's hard to find room... read more

I have been to this place twice. The first was phenomenal where I had no expectations. This time I was partially disappointed. The vegetarian antipasto was a sad rendition: burnt, rubbery garbanzo beans. I expectedmote effort from the antipasto. How about some fava beans or roasted bell peppers. It contained egg plant parmagiana. The portion and variety could easily be fixed and worth the price. The bacon, carmalized arugula pizza was pretty tasty except for excessive burnt parts. Pizza with a view and ample seating area? Yes please! This is easily one of my favorite pizza places in South Austin. The dough is chewy and soft and always cooked to perfection. It's a good deal for your money as well as it's not too expensive and you still get a large amount of food and will likely end with leftovers. I strongly recommend sharing with a friend or going with a group of people to get a chance to try out the multiple pies they have available. You'll miss out on some good flavors. If you don't try out at least several of their pizzas. It tends to get busy, but service is always quick and fast and there is ample seating, both inside and outside. I have to admit the pizza was really good here. If you were in the area and never been this is a must stop. Just no lunchtime to get pretty busy but they do a good job getting you in and out of here in a very reasonable time. Also if you were into pastrami sandwiches, wow my colleague let me try a piece of their pastrami sandwich and it was absolutely amazing. The beef they use here is so good. I'm not sure how they make it so good but my colleague was telling me it was better than the ones he's had in New York. I have yet to go to New York so I cannot confirm or deny. I can tell you though the sandwich should I tried was simply amazing and very tasty. The service was really good as well. They take our order and you go sit down, they give you a buzzer, once your order is ready you go pick it up. They were really busy but they didn't let them slow them down one bit. They were very fast and efficient and did a great job. This will be our go to spot that I stop at often. Great job read more

Very good pizza and overall good quality/menu. I had ordered a Caesar salad and was given plastic utensils and paper plates. Not sure I had ever eaten a romaine salad with cheap plastic before. I respectfully asked the manager and quite possibly the owner (assuming) why they only serve plastic utensils? He then went on to tell me how their pizza is easier to eat folded up which he was correct after I had eventually gotten my pizza after the Caesar salad. He did take it upon himself to bring me proper silverware after my comment which was the right thing to do. I still find it hard to eat a crispy Caesar salad with plastic. It's 2023 and they STILL DO NOT HAVE THEIR DINING ROOM OPEN! They will NOT even take an order at the window. Drove in from Austin... Wasted 45 min of our day. Google said they were "open" - NOPE! Even if you are there you can't order food; online ordering is the only option, and it doesn't work well.... we finally just left. If they want to run this place into the ground and permanently chase away customers.... then.... good job, since we will NEVER be back. Such a shame, since we used to really like this place. Wow. I must have been in a different store than most of these other reviews. It always makes me wonder if I had the one off experience. The way Yelp works is they carry forward their reviews from the old location/kitchen/staff. Perhaps something fundamental has changed. I used to be in food service. As a waiter, I lived on tips. However, whenever I have to go to the counter to order, return to pick up the food, then throw away my trash & bus my own table - I get peeved when the order process involves me choosing my tip amount. That was a bad start. I'm sure they pay their employees less so that they can make up the difference in "tips." Makes it cheaper for the employer and usually the employees take it on the chin. Must not be a problem here because the order taker did an exceptional job. The problem was the pizza was a wreck. I like a fire charred pizza. But when it's burned enough to affect the flavor something is off. I'm not sure of pizza oven mechanics, but my crust was seriously burned and the middle was doughy and undercooked. I'm not the pizza expert but something was off on the heat. Last but not least, the pizza was way too spicy. I had the "Smoky Italian" and have no clue what the lip numbing additive came from. It wasn't a tasty heat from some food item, it was as if something was added just to make it hot. Success, it just numbed parts of my mouth with little flavor. Pro-Tip: The entrance is towards the strip mall side of the restaurant, not the road side. It's hard to tell from the parking area, so head left and you'll do well. read more

We moved to Belterra last July in the midst of lockdown. We've never been inside. I looked through the windows and saw hundreds or thousands of pizza boxes. We ordered pizza from there. It is clear why they have so many pizza boxes cuz you gotta have a box and their pizzas are so fricking good they need a lot of boxes. The problem is simple. It's all good, so what do you do? When you want to impress but not be pretentious The food is straightforward and amazing. A simple menu done to its best. The owners are definitely foodies and keep the kitchen quality checked. Once, my husband and I were skiing in Utah and the photographer on the slope asked us where we were from. We said Austin and his first comment was, "I had the best pizza there... it was kind of outside of Austin. Do you know a place called Pieous?" One complaint I actually have to give them respect for. This is a family owned business and they take holidays off. My dad was in the food business and we never saw him around the holidays. If they are doing so well they can close for weeks at a time all the better for it. Our family has food allergies and they get the highest grade... the "We have a family member with food allergies, too, and take it very seriously". There are tree nuts in some pastries but no peanuts in any of their items. If you have a wheat allergy this may not be the place for you... although they have items to eat if you are gluten sensitive. It's really 3.5 but I will round-up since my understanding is they are efficient like a German train schedule. The time your order says it will be ready was the exact minute I got a text saying my order was ready. Although the draconian covid restrictions I'm reading about would cause me to round down if I experienced them (which I didn't). The crust I think is the real winner and selling point here. Very nicely cooked, texture & flavor. The sauce wasn't too acidic which was good, but I think the sauce and cheese was a bit watery. If it was grease and oil it would have been sublime, but it was not. So that was a decent size detractor from the experience and the cheese on a standalone basis was tasteless and lacked proper structural integrity. Best course of action is to just get the crust and dip in an olive oil mixture. Price is fair, so add that to the crust and punctuality earns them a solid 4 stars. So how do they fare relative to some of the other spots? No comparison to DeSano, and I'd say a fair bit below homeslice & north italia. Maybe prefer them to Saccones, and also Grimaldis. Better than a whole bunch of other stuff I ordered in the Domain that I can't remember the names of. I'll have to update this list as I try more pizza. read more

I miss the ambiance of the old Pieous location. There was a certain quaint coziness to the old digs in the proximity of the ovens to the dining area and the small open air patio that gave you that warm feeling of oneness with the Pieous concept. The new location is far roomier and more modern, but the same super super fabulous friendliness of the staff remains. Food delivery to the tables is lightning fast. I had barely settled in my seat after getting my fountain drink before my salad arrived. Their pastrami is--dare I say--better than at the old location. How is that possible? When I went back after finishing my meal for an order of pastrami to go, I was ushered out of the line and told I didn't have to wait twice. Where in Austin does that happen these days? Seriously. Ultimately, I find it hard to quarrel with Josh and Paige's success. I'm so happy for the owners and their new location, I'll be back more often than ever. read more
