We waited an hour for a table in this tiny restaurant at 3:00 pm. We figured it had to be good with all the hype and large crowds waiting. BTW, the wait line forms across from the restaurant in a tiny alley like street. After getting seated we ordered the bufalo margarita pizza and a couple soft drinks. Today I'm trying out one of the most famous Pizza restaurants in the entire world. The pizza at Piccolo Buco has been cooked in a the same wood oven since 1916. I waited about 45 minutes and let me tell you that this was well worth the wait. Their focaccia lard and blu cheese pizza was my favorite, but the rest were so delicious it was difficult to decide. The best seller is the Burrata Margherita Pizza, and was worth the try. Now for the whirlwind of flavors on the yellow spice salami pizza, this was just insane and there's no way to put it otherwise. Airy and tastes like Autumn if it were a pizza. Overall, really cool that they get their ingredients from different farms in Italy I highly suggest visiting Piccolo Buco when in Rome. read more

We were pretty pissed about having to wait in the rain for about 30 minutes, but MAN AM I HAPPY WE DID. Hands down the most incredible fresh right out of the brick oven pizza I've had in my entire life! We got the "Yellow Margherita" which was a yellow tomato paste. A little sweet than the regular red tomato paste and it was absolutely mouth watering. Second pizza we ordered was the mashed potatoes and bacon. AMAZING. Rich and lovely. The crust had the perfect crisp and fluffiness to it. We took the rest to go and had it toasted at our hotel for lunch the next day and was still amazing. For dessert we ordered the mascarpone cheese berry with chocolate dish. It was so delicious! At the bottom was crushed up chocolate cookie topped with a rich smooth mascarpone cheese cream with berries! The owner was so friendly and despite it being so busy he made time to personally interact with each table which made the experience even more delightful. This restaurant would be the reason why I would want to revisit Italy again. Just for this pizza lol. Just letting everyone know not to be deceived and put down from the long line. Hype fully deserved. We arrived fairly early and should have been fine but, as seemed to be the case everywhere in Rome, a pack of 8 people arrived JUST before we did. We were told the wait would be about 30 minutes and it ultimately was a bit less, so we were thrilled to get in. Great menu with a really wide array of pizza options and even a few pastas for your pizza abstainers (ah, having the only child under 10 in Italy that doesn't like pizza...made for an interesting trip!). I wasn't the only one that was waiting either and everyone who did get inside was handsomely rewarded with some if not the best food in all of Rome. This was my most favorite spot to eat in Rome not for on be Jones or location but pure enjoyment of the food. The gentleman at the table next to me ordered the Rissoto with a fig reduction and a gorgonzola cheese and at first I was not sure what to think about it but when it showed up his table that was what I needed to have. I could have stayed here all night eating everything on the menu, the pizza was fantastic and 2 of the couple's at the tables next to us ordered off of the menu and had wonderful pizza which they were nice enough to share a slice and boy was I in heaven. Well worth the hour wait and the short walk to get there. The best pizza we have ever eaten and we lived in the Naples area for two years. The crust was delicious. We arrived at around 7:30 and got the signal for two to cross the street into the restaurant at around 8:30. We arrived on a busy Friday night around 8:30 pm and the small restaurant was full. Our group of 4 was promptly greeted and told it would be a 10 minute wait. The wait was closer to 15 minutes but a line was quickly growing. The staff was friendly and spoke English well and they accurately kept track of who was next in line even though it may have looked like chaos. We ordered a penne arrabiata, pizza margherita, pizza with 3 kinds of tomatoes, and ravioli with a butter sauce. The pizza was tasty, artisanal with nice textures and a good amount of tomato sauce. The arrabiata was spicy but not overpowering and the sauce tasted fresh and balanced. It was a good sign that there were Italians in this restaurant that is in a touristy and busy area about 10 minutes walk from the Trevi Fountain, but we also felt welcomed and comfortable as tourists. Yes you will have to most likely wait, but it's worth it. Piccolo Buco is not a very large place. It's near Trevi Fountain and there are tourists all over this place looking for good food and Yelp is rightly sending them here. Our wait wasn't too bad, because we got lucky with the timing. About 20 minutes. But an hour isn't that uncommon here. That said, the owner was good at remembering faces of people waiting and seemed to take everyone in order even though the line got a little chaotic with tourists wanting to push to the front of the line. He was very friendly and clearly enjoyed working the front of the house, talking to guests. Focaccia - When we asked what he would recommend, he said many people ignore the focaccia and recommended two different kinds. When we thought both sounded delicious, he hooked us up with half and half. To be honest with you, as good as the pizza is, I loved the focaccia even more. They were like a thin crust pizza but served room temperature so the cold cuts on top weren't cooked and dried out. We had Parma Ham, Stracciatella cheese, Semidry tomatoes and Truffle mortadella, Burrata, & Lemon Zest. Both were excellent. But the Truffle Mortadella - wow. In America Mortadella is like glorified Bologna. But this real deal Mortadella with Truffles is one of the best cold cuts I've ever had. The lemon zest was subtle just there to slightly enhance the flavor of the olive oil. If you notice, on the menu each Focaccia and pizza is paired with a different drizzled olive oil (like it's a fine wine). Another reminder of how crude our American Italian palates can be, and the attention to detail here. 5 stars. Mushrooms & Sausage with Red Sauce - Crust is what I would consider Napoletana style. Dough with a slight sour flavor fully risen on the edges with a slight char to it and paper thin in the middle. This is knife and fork pizza. Everything was very well balanced with the home made crumbled sausage being on the mild side. 5 Stars Yellow 4 Cheese - This was my favorite. Why have I never seen a yellow based marinara sauce? It takes all the acidity out of the sauce but leaves so much flavor in. The 4 cheeses were Mozzarella, Blue, Parmigiano Reggiano, and Roman Percorino. The blue cheese was either very mild, or there was a very small amount in the blend. Just enough to slightly enhance the flavor of the pizza without overpowering it. You most likely wouldn't know there was blue cheese at all if you didn't look at the menu. 5 stars As Americans, we tend to load up our pizzas with toppings. But when cheese blends are this well thought out, such care taken to the marinara sauce, specific olive oil paired, and crust that is treated like great baked bread...simple is better. I was just as happy tasting a slice of a Margherita pizza as I was having sausage and mushrooms added to it. For sure don't come here without someone in your group ordering that 4 cheese Yellow sauce pie. You ain't getting that at home. Upon returning, I tried making my own marinara sauce with only yellow tomatoes. Meh. Couldn't get the quality of tomato that is available in Italy. So enjoy it while you can. I'm jealous if you are reading my review and about to order a yellow pie. read more

Small, quaint and a simple menu. Just give us house wine and two pizzas please. We split two, the Margherita with Buffalo Mozzarella and the spicy yellow. To me, nothing is better than a simple pizza with buffalo mozzarella. So I'll go ahead and say, this pizza won first. Super surprised I enjoyed the spicy yellow. The place is tiny and deceiving but once you finally get a table especially as a family of six and you get to enjoy the best pizza in all of Italy; it's well worth the long line we waited on...twice... The margarita pizza was excellent but the showstopper of the menu was the one with prosciutto, burrata and mushrooms drizzled with olive oil. Such amazing pizza. I had the Margherita and my son had the mushroom and sausage. There was already another couple waiting outside for a table and we queued up behind them. This restaurant was on the same street as our hotel so I know that was a regular thing to have people waiting to get in. Is it worth it? Oh, yeah!
