The waiter was trying to be kind but the manager (?) an older, tall "gentleman" was very rude. He barked about there being no take-away when I didn't request or plan on it. What a great spot a short walk from the Colosseo! Its neighborhood and local so you have the luxury of a Roman's Roma. The Cacio E Pepe was memorable which is special in a town famous for it. One of the favorite places we ate in Rome. Not the absolute best food, but pretty close. Great variety of pasta and beef. Everything we ate was good, not one dud. I was wandering through the streets a little later in the evening and starving. Somehow I came across this magnificently glowing entrance and discovered this gem of a whole restaurant! As I entered, waiters busted my balls as I was dining by myself and they had a good laugh about it! Didn't let the ball busting phase me as the food smelled delicious. I decided to go with clam spaghetti and wow, mind blown how good it was. I also got a empanadas to start the evenings meal and that was quite good as well. Our last dinner in Rome before Florence and I cannot recommend it enough. Our server guided us through her recommendations with the sampler appetizer with an amazing grilled chorizo and chimichurri, 200gr beef tenderloin, cacio e Pepe, some excellent fries and a bottle of the inexpensive Argentinian Malbec (don't shoot the messenger but it was as good as any wine I've had in Italy). The wine recommendation surprised us a little since it was as cheap as nearly any wine on the menu. We finished our wine and chased dinner with a little limoncello. It was a spectacular meal and I can't recommend it enough. Or total bill was around €85 for dinner for two. Again this was one of our best meals in Italy. read more

We stumbled across this place a few doors down from our VRBO while in Rome, walking toward the Colesseum. Amazingly delicious pastries and cappuccino and very reasonably priced. We both had breakfast for 11 Euro total, and it was VERY VERY good! The water spoke excellent english and was very nice and helpful; he brought over trays of pastries for us to choose from, rather than walking over to the case. read more

Our first official dinner in Rome was at this lovely establishment! Little did we know that it was more of an Argentinian restaurant haha.. whoops! Oh well! They still had your Italian entres though! Our server spoke English and was super nice! Not a very big place, very cozy, good vibes. Although an Argentinian restaurant, we still ordered their Italian dishes lol. I ordered their carbonara and my husband ordered the ragu gnocchi. The carbonara was friggin delicious and they brought out a full bowl of freshly grated Parmesan- it was amazingggg! My husband's gnocchi was so soft and pillowy- delicious. Their house wine was only 2 euros a glass and was good too- it was such a nice intro to our trip in Italy. Good prices too! read more

Okay, folks: I Monticiani is 1) delicious 2) friendly 3)cheap 4) Argentinean I found this ol' place cruising through Yelp trying to find a good Cacio e Pepe and this popped up. To be honest, I was intrigued because it had high ratings and seemed relatively inexpensive. After our visit to the Roman Forum (also a must), we wanted something that was a bit off the tourist-y path, so we decided to walk to I Monticiani which was about a 15-20 minute walk. Everyone was welcoming when we walked through the door. The place was lively and there were-- what seemed to be-- a lot of locals. We ordered a gnocchi ragu, cacio e pepe and an empanada (I mean, when in Rome in an Argentinean restaurant, ammiright?). To start, the empanada was only okay. It was was €3 and I felt like I have had better empanadas in the Southwest United States. The Cacio e Pepe was THE dish I had been anxious to try, and I Monticiani did a decent job. However, it was the gnocchi that blew my mind. It was absolutely perfect. I can not recommend it highly enough. read more

I got a small antipasti dish cuz I'm sick, the tortilla con papas y eggs and onion. I got excited cuz I'm like wait tortillas in Roma? But really it was a frittata, probably the best frittata I've had in my life. This place is really chill, the music is not hella loud or imposing, the food is good and made fresh. The frittata also came with a lil side salad. I also got some tea. Another long day of walking and we had to grab something quickly before our flight. A 15 minute walk from Tremini train station lies this gem. Quickly we were served ..we had a large beer each while we scoured the menu..this consisted of Argentinian steak and pasta dishes. I immediately chose the large tenderloin steak and spinach while my mum had a carbonara. Both dishes arrived swiftly and my steak was perfect. My mums pasta was also fantastic and the price was reasonable. Anyway highly recommended with great staff. I wish we had more time to take more in and try the other dishes but we only had 40 minutes. read more

With all the novelty restaurants in the center of Rome, it's very hard to find a good Italian restaurant that isn't gauging you and that carries food that's made from scratch. Thanks to Yelp, we were able to find this little gem. The food was amazing! Prices weren't too steep either. We ordered a few dishes but the fettuccini with beef ragu was pretty awesome. The sauce just had so much flavor! The buffalo mozzerella with prosciutto was my next fave, and although I love steak, it wasn't super memorable. It was Grilled just right but I think the fettuccini totally outshone it. We ordered a bottle of wine to wash it all down and we didn't break the bank! It is possible in Rome! For everything the bill was only 50euros! The restaurant got very busy, which is totally a good sign. There were only 2 servers but they were on top of things. They spoke english well and were able to recommend they're favorite dishes. If you are looking for authentic pasta check this place out! read more

I read a review of what a nice local eatery this was and they were right. Small, with helpful staff and good music. We shared an app of prosciutto e mozzarella which was amazing with a reasonably priced 1/2 liter of the house white. Dinner was accepted recommendations of Spaghetti Carbonara and the Steak. This place has some really good pasta dishes, try the tonnarelli. They also have Argentinian dishes. We had the empanadas and chorizo as antipasto and they were very tasty. It's also a great place for cappuccinos in the morning and the staff is very friendly. Great place overall! read more

I was not happy with this place and I would not recommend it - at least not for Italian food. The pasta Amatriciana was not only undercooked a bit, but the bacon was all bacon fat and gross. The waiter seemed concerned that I wasn't eating it and recommended to exchange my dish for something else so I ordered a simple pasta with oil and black pepper and it was extremely oily and the taste was just OK. Also, the waiter charged me higher for the wine than what he told me it cost and would not adjust the price after I called him out on what he originally told me it cost. He just apologized and said it was bad communication (really? So I have to pay for his bad communication skills?) At the end, I paid for TWO bad pasta dishes - yes, they charged me for the dish that I didn't eat anyway 'per che la a fatto il cuoco' (because the cook made it) and I paid more than what I expected to (or was told I'd pay) for the wine. On a couple of positive notes, at least the wine was good (Mane Nere) and others recommend this place for the tapas. Perhaps I should have ordered the empanadas instead. read more

After a long day of site seeing, we were ready for a nice dinner. We stumbled across this place while exploring dinner options in the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. To our surprise, the cuisine was a blend of Argentinian and Italian....something I would have never expected given we were in Rome. We ordered Bruschetta as an appetizer...which was good, but nothing our the ordinary. We followed this up with a "dry meat" salad...which essentially was a cured meat on top of arugula and topped with dried shavings of cheese. It was quite yummy and something we had not experienced yet during our visit to Rome. Finally, we ended with a very nice plate of pasta..which was full of flavor and definitely finished off what was a very good meal. On our last night in Rome, we stumbled upon this little place. Since everything opens at 7pm for dinner and it was 6ish only with 2 kids who were starving we went inside. Looks very cozy. The waitress was very friendly and spoke english. We ordered a few beers and pasta with cheese sauce, bacon and pepper, which was delicious. Mozarella Bufalla with Tomato was right on, and we ordered for our american kids a version of chicken breast fried with french fries. French friea were homemade and were sooo fresh. We also ordered a beef tenderloin steak and it was perfect. Excellent small place, beautiful atmosphere and excellent service with both waitresses who were so attentive and friendly. Oh and desser was unbelievable! We got tiramisu, chocolate cake and a cheesecake with blueberry compote. It was DELICIOSO! Grazi!!! We love you Roma! read more

Fantastic! We were able to get the last table walking in at 8pm, best to make a reservation to be sure. Very comfortable and inviting staff, even for English speakers. Cacio e pepe was really yummy with perfectly fresh spaghetti. My wife had linguini beef ragu which was also really excellent with fresh tomato sauce. Creme Brule was lovely and very creamy. This place has been in business about a year and a half (as of July 2013). We went there for lunch because the highly-rated cafe accross the street (Le Cafeteria?) wasn't open yet. The cafe is directly opposite the Colosseo B-line Metro station so the people-watching is great. We were the only non-locals there, and several customers knew each other, but the reception was casual and friendly. Wall art included some collages of 1950's ads and movie stills, but the decor was nothing fancy and totally unpretentious. The wait staff were efficient and fun and readily fixed a minor mistake. The bathroom was the cleanest in Rome! The food was mixed-the specials were mind-blowingly good, but the standard dishes were just okay. Even so, the overall experience was terrific and I will definitely go back the next chance I get. read more

I wasn't expecting much from this place because it's pretty casual and doesn't have a pile of "Italian" atmosphere. And the menu has Argentinian and Italian influences, which I questioned. We stumbled into this Italian/Argentinian place when two of the trendy places could not accommodate us. (We should have thought to make reservations). However, we LOVED this place. More locals than tourists and great food as well as great friendly service. The house appetizer plate was fantastic, the spaghetti olio garlic w/chile was great. The churasco steak was as good as any Miami. Tiramisu best yet and creme brûlée amazing. Again, very glad we ended up here. read more
