This place was just a few steps away from the Airbnb I was staying at. Saw the good reviews and decided to check it out for dinner one night. The restaurant had a comfortable and warm ambiance and the tables were comfortably spaced out from one another. We didn't know it was preferable to make a reservation ahead of time, so even though there were a few open tables, we were given a small table that usually sits 2 when we were a party of 3. We started off our meal with a steak tartare, which was pretty good and well seasoned. My favorite was the fish we had, and we were disappointed by the steak. Spent 6 days in Rome over the Christmas holiday and had my share of amazing Italian food but THIS...this experience was probably one of the highlights of the trip. So many restaurant choices in Monti but my hotel recommended this spot and it did not disappoint. They were quite busy that Tuesday evening but the 2 male servers were so accommodating, even though we did not have a reservation. The ambiance is cozy and warm, the service efficient but friendly. We dined on 3 fabulous courses: prawn balls and squash blossoms followed by an absolutely delicious spaghettoni with octopus and tomatoes while my friend had pappardelle with pork sausage, parmesan, balsamic vinegar and crispy artichokes...she claimed it was one of the best pasta dishes she's had, ever. The menu seems to change regularly; given how amazing our meal was down to the desserts, I'm sure they are always on point. Loved everything about this dinner and hope to one day return. Do not come here if you are a tourist! We were really excited about this place initially - it seemed far enough away from the touristy spots and we wanted to try something local! Unfortunately the stuff was rude and got mad at us right off the bat saying we needed to order food since it was lunch before we even sat down? Eventually they sat us down and we were able to order some drinks, plus our hummus appetizer and entrees. While the food was fairly high quality, it was completely overshadowed by the service we received. We never got drinks we ordered, the waiter was rude to us the entire time, and the portion sizes were tiny. We thought the food maybe would make up for this, but then we saw the table next to us order the exact same items and they each got double (literally) the amount of food. Sciuè Sciuè is a very hip Italian restaurant near the Colosseo in the center of Rome. We were in Rome for our honeymoon, and I had done most of the restaurant research. This dinner was the only place my wife was interested in trying, and it ended up being a mixed bag of results. The decor is very nice, modern look with great lighting, small tables, and a cool looking bar area. We ordered wine and pasta to go along with some antipasti before deciding on a main dish. We ordered a pasta named Lombricelli, which had the consistency of a very thick spaghetti. The Lombricelli was served with a pork minto pesto sauce that was absolutely delicious! The mint was pronounced but not so heavy in your mouth, the pork had great flavor with the cheese really helping season the dish as well. The inconsistencies in dishes came from a simple and sort of bland zucchini roll with ricotta cheese. We liked it but it was bland, and like several places in Rome, they didn't have salt and pepper at the table. I ordered a squid dish with tomatoes and olives while my wife ordered sea bream and vegetables as our mains. Squid dishes are usually something we go for and it's understandable when grilled squid is a little chewy. This particular dish was a little too chewy for my liking and the tomatoes had great flavor but did lack salt. The salty came with the olives, but I prefer the seasoning be consistent not relying on brine to taste the dish. My wife had wanted to order fish all trip, and she did enjoy the sea bream. The vegetables on that dish were cut very small, and had flavor but once again lacked salt. Overall, the ambiance was a 5, service was fine but a little slow to get the main dishes out, and the food was a 4. The reason for the overall 3 star rating was the lack of salt in general that lead to bland dishes and some chewier than normal squid. read more

Recommended by our hotel in Rome, we walked over to Sciue Sciue for dinner. Small and intimate, located in the Monti area on a narrow cobblestone street, this place feels very comforting. UGH YES TO THIS PLACE! Different from the typical pasta places you're going to find in Italy and you'll want to try more than just the pasta. The grilled calamari, zucchini flows, and of course, the pastas themselves. They were all delicious and honestly somewhere I would go more than once. One of the better restaurants we visited in Rome. WE had several starters, but the one that stood out amongst the others was the Baby Octopus - if it is in season - order it! We had three pasta entrees that were all spectacular. Its a rarity that I share, but I felt compelled to share as everything looked so good. This was the best meal I had in Rome (and I ATE WELL). The menu varies by season, but I had a fettuccine with sausage, artichokes, and pecorino as well as sea bass with sautéed chicory. Dad had a spaghetti with tomato light pasta as well as a sausage and chicken strip like sauté (came with roasted potatoes). EVERYTHING was amazing. Lovely, cozy spot on Via Urbana. The decor is simple yet elegant and the waiters are friendly. The menu is brief but they change it up every once in a while, and their prices are quite fair for this area of Rome. We've been eating heavily most days here and I just wanted something lighter for dinner. Spaghetonni Sciuè Sciuè, made with cherry tomato and basil, was a good choice. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was very fresh. My friend got the lombrichelli with pork sausage, black cabbage, and pecorino di fossa and it was very flavourful. We inhaled it all quickly. The atmosphere is more intimate here so it's great for catching up or a romantic evening. Do yourself a favour and check this place out. read more

I don't think I would rave about this place like some of the other reviewers do, but I certainly had a good time here. The restaurant has a nice, calm atmosphere in an alleyway, and with the sun shining outside it provided a respite from the heat. We came right before it closed for a few hours during the day. I and my girlfriend shared the fried calamari and leak with honey appetizer (€10) and then I continued with the mezzemaniche with ham, porcini mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and Parmesan cheese (€10). The calamari was definitely NOT worth it; the squid was good, but it was thinly chopped into fine strips. It also tasted a bit sweet from the honey and I wasn't wild about that. I wish they had provided traditional large O-rings of squid like other restaurants do. The pasta was quite delicious but the issue is that there was so little of it. The dish was cooked exquisitely and the meat, cheese and pasta all complemented each other. I think a small bit of bacon would've taken the dish to another level, but I did enjoy it still. At €10 the dish was all right in terms of worth, but I could've used a little more. Service was excellent and I'm glad I could say that because some restaurant employees may not always be the most hospitable and that can ruin the visit. The manager (or owner... not sure of his position) was very friendly and was happy to speak with us. I would recommend checking out Sciue Sciue for a light meal. read more

This is by far the best beef filet I've ever had in my life. This place is afordable and the food is amazing even if you had to pay 75 Euros a plate, which I didn't. A dinner for two was 48 Euros. The roasted potatoes are delicious and the chocolate souffle is to DIE for and NOT TOO SWEET. I've eaten at expensive steak restaurants in the United States and this place blows them out of the water. Make sure you don't rely on luck and you get yourself a reservation. This is a must eat place WHEN IN ROME and affordable. If I get the chance to return to Rome, I'm eating here at least once upon my return. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. The bruschetta was easily the best I've had - no picture but it had cherry tomatoes and a black olive spread (looked different than the one that Marion J. posted, even though that looks great too). I had the tonnarelli with fried calamari and my wife had the chicken with fried potatoes and salad. Everything is very reasonably priced. So far, we've only received our appetizers (fried calamari+veggies and zucchini flowers) and we can already tell this place is our favorite in Rome. Vibes are perfect(chill/jazzy), plus value/quality of the food is on point. Also, just by looking around, we can tell that our main course will NOT disappoint! **We've paid and gone home; it's time I wrap up this review. Have to say, it's hard to believe how good the food was... First we ordered the paccheri pasta w/ king prawns in a pumpkin sauce and the Argentinian steak. The pasta was my favorite in Italy (unique flavor and perfectly cooked). Then the steak was so good that I ordered one for myself after taking a bite of my friends. Obviously, we couldn't stop there; dessert was next. We ordered the chocolate soufflé (white chocolate center) and the tiramisu - paired with a couple of cappuccinos. All of it was beyond perfection, including the bill!! For everything plus 2 beers, it came out to only €88!! I really wanted to like this place given all the rave reviews. If anything, we thought we might have to deal with some rough customer service to get some amazing food. Instead, customer service was just fine, but food was totally meh. Situated on a cute side street, this place is close to the attractions without being in the thick of it. Hip decor and features creates a nice ambiance. Other reviews noted the small size, but that's relative. I'd qualify it more as 'cozy,' nowhere near as tight as many restaurants dotting the LES of Manhattan. That being said, a reservation is a smart move. We ordered the beef tar tar and potato croquettes for appetizers. Beef was fresh, but totally under seasoned. Croquettes were fine, but nothing special. We both got pasta for dinner. My husband got spaghettinino with bacon-too salty and rich. I got a basic pasta of clams, olive oil, and basil-emphasis on olive oil. Totally saturated. Nothing was capital-T Terrible, but nothing was very good either. Unlike others, customer service was lovely. If the food would have been good, very reasonably priced. Location: Again, in my home away from home neighbourhood, Monti. It's one level down from my original first love, Fatamorgana. So you would come down Via Zinagli from Via del Boschetto, and right before you reach Fatamorgana, you'll see a short 'hill' on your right. Sciué Scuié is right at the bottom. Service: Pretty good. My general takeaway with Rome restaurants has been that owners/wait staff love the locals and only tolerate the tourists - unless you're somewhere super touristy like Piazza Navona etc. If you endeavour to speak to staff in Italian, they may warm up to you. Over here, the staff spoke English well and while not overly friendly, were still very nice. Food: This is serious quality, my friends. My disappointment in the fact that they are closed on Sundays (my last day in Rome) is unfathomable. I am REALLY disappointed! So, on to the food; as a starter, I had the grilled zucchini rolls with shrimp, arugula, mint and cherry tomatoes. This dish was both light and delicious - very, very good! You could order this along with one or two other appetizers and make a meal out of these. From what I saw at other tables, you can't go wrong with any dish that you order. My main was fresh fettuccine with pumpkin, bacon and cherry tomatoes. Not only has this dish replaced gelato at Fatamorgana as my first love, but it is hands down the best meal I've had in Rome. The pasta was perfect. The bacon was thinly sliced, salty perfection. Everything else just contributed in a big way, to both the taste and quality of this dish. All ingredients were fresh. Did I mention how upset I am that they're closed on Sundays?! For dessert, I had an Italian cheesecake. This is nothing like the crap you eat in North America! It looks like pie (it's got the crust and everything) but is about 100 times lighter (made with ricotta). The texture is different as well - it sort of reminds me of a bread, but a light and airy version. In any case, it's fabulous and you should try it. Price point: Very reasonable. High quality, delicious food outside the tourist area - you'll find a cool setting, amazing music and a bloody good vibe. This is one of those classic Rome restaurants that you have to just get lucky and stumble across...and thankfully we did. From the outside it just looks like just another place, but once you're inside you can pick up on the cool vibe immediately. Sadly my stomach wasn't cooperating on this part of our trip, so I had to sit this meal out. Immediately I regretted doing so, however, after checking out the people eating to our left, as they had this fantastic looking plate of fresh cut pineapple that I would've killed for had I been hungry given the 90 degree heat. Food envy at its finest!! Soon after my girlfriend ordered spaghetti with marinara and fresh cherry tomatoes, and confirmed my belief that the food here is high-level. The service also, was excellent, as our server was extremely attentive and sensitive to the fact that we had to catch a train to Florence shortly. He even gave us two plates to share the spaghetti without us asking, which subsequently caused my food envy to reach maximum levels, as I now had a plate of delicious food in front of me with no means at all of eating it (wine hangovers are the worst). However, even that couldn't inhibit my ability to see that we'd struck gold with this place. The kick-back setting and fantastic ambiance makes it a great place to stop by for lunch - safely away from the hustle and bustle of the metro and the Colosseum especially. "When in Rome", all Americans want to eat like the locals do, and if you're lucky enough to stop by here, you can too. read more

We were in Rome for three nights visiting from Southern California and we spent two of our meals here because we were so impressed by the food. The menu is broken down in typical Roman fashion of Antipasto, First Pasta Course, and Entree Course, with a half dozen or so choices for each. Pastas are 8-12€, Entrees are 10-15€. Appetizers are not expensive, but a second pasta course is a better value proposition if you are hungry. The portions overall are smallish by American standards (but shouldn't be a problem if you take your time and enjoy your meal and give your body time to realize it is full). You might want to call ahead and make reservations though. We came in for an early dinner service and got seated. The restaurant quickly filled up, no further reservations were available, and 3 tables were turned away before our dinner service was done. read more

This industrial chic place is tucked away in the adorable Monti neighborhood that we like so much. We ate here both on our first and last night. That should tell you something! The pasta with sausage and figs is amazingly good! The sea bass is perfect. The menu changes nightly but we came back for the pasta and we were relieved that it remained on the menu but in a different shape of pasta. The service is excellent and the place is always full. One of our favourite stops in Rome! As with many European tourist hot spots, finding a good restaurant near a tourist site can be rare. Before we went to the Colosseum, we made sure to research the area a bit and found the good reviews for Sciue Sciue. It's only a little off the beaten path, but what a difference the extra 5-minute walk made! After a long visit to the Colosseum, we managed to find a table at this restaurant. We've been eating plenty of carbs over the last few days, and we were so relieved to have a menu that didn't focus entirely on pasta or pizza. The seafood here is fresh, light, and thoroughly tasty. The service was also very friendly, and the space is nice and open. If you don't mind a little walk, definitely make this one of your stops after see the epic Colosseum. read more

We got fresh bread with the meal (I don't know if it's always free in Italy but in this case it was). Best meal in Europe so far, even better than the very expensive Michelein Star Jules Verne on the Eiffel Tower at a fraction of the price! A risotto to die for at only 9 Euros, excellent glass of wine at only 6 Euros and a great steak, the most expensive thing on the menu, at only 20 Euros. The sea bass was perfect and the best crispy skin I've ever had. Great Tiramisu as well. I would eat here weekly if I lived here. Plan on going back before we leave. Super friendly service, and a chic modern, intimate design. Don't know how the locals rate it, but can't be beat for taste and a bargain to boot! read more
