Our first meal in Rome was here, and I'm so glad it was here. We arrived on Christmas Eve and wanted a good meal. Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Great first meal in Rome! I loved my artichoke pasta dish with bacon, it was a daily special. The amaretto dessert was delicious! Carbonara was super al dente. Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)

This restaurant was very close to my hotel so I made a reservation through their website. Very easy to do; there's an option for English. Considering how crowded it got on a Sunday night, I suggest making a reservation if you decide to go The staff is very friendly. Like almost every restaurant I tried, most of the staff speak English well enough to make things easy if that's your only language The prosciutto appetizer was a little disappointing. I've definitely had better prosciutto even back home. I should note that this plate did not say prosciutto di Parma, however. A different one did. The risotto was excellent. The mussels, clams and shrimp were abundant, fresh and tasty. A separate saucer is provided for shells. Nice The salad came w bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Fresh salad. Nothing more. Nothing less. Overall, a nice neighborhood restaurant on a busy street w lots of foot traffic. Nice dinner. Glad I went.

Dining room with a waiter photobombing us... they had a great staff.

Rome, Italy... Very good, reasonably priced... great staff. We were there on a Friday evening... only go in because we had a Resi... luckily their website accepted reservations.

Exceptional food and service! Must visit place in Rome for authentic Italian cuisine . The atmosphere is lively and makes you feel like you are at a true Italian family dinner. The wine is incredible and it's decently priced. Highly recommended

The best food we tried in Italy. They have a special dish, artichoke, which is awesome. Try it! Anything you take you won't regret.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
