My godchild recommended Osteria Barberini. Apparently a very trendy and very hard resturant to get into so we made reservations about 2 months in advance. They are known for the best Truffle anything anywhere. lol. A little tricky to find and very small. Maybe 6 or 7 tables at most. I was surprised when I read the Yelp reviews that a few of my awesome Yelpers also dined here too and gave high marks so I was very excited to give them a try. After ordering some tasty vino we went the Focaccia with mozzarella, black truffle with a truffle cream sauce. The Focaccia was lite and a thin crust. Topped with some delicious mozzarella and black truffle made this appetizer and home run choice. After the Focaccia I decided to stay on theme and went with the Fettuccine al tartufo nero e porcini (fettuccine black truffle & porcini mushrooms). Holy cow, a delicious culinary delight. Some other hits of the table included the beef fillet with green pepper sauce & Digione mustard. Astice grigliato, verdure al vapore e maionese alla curcuma (Grilled lobster with steamed veggies in a mayonnaise turmeric sauce and a Lasagna, tartufo nero, funghi, mozzarella e grana (lasagna with blach truffle, mushrooms, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese) All were just amazing. Randomly walked here after going to the nearby museum. We were seated immediately on a Wednesday during lunch. Our waiter kept correcting how we pronounced everything we ordered. Ok bro-we get it- we're not Italian. But at least we tried. The ravioli was just ok. There was nothing special about out it. We also ordered the soup and it was also just mediocre. It's really sad to update this review and downgrade it to 4 stars. When I was here a few years ago, the food and service were on such a high level, I was blown away. My previous experiences here put Osteria Barberini as one of my favorite meals ever, and I travel and eat all over the world. I made a reservation weeks ago because I only had three nights in Rome and wanted to make sure I was able to come. The restaurant interior has changed. It's been expanded and updated. The previous decor was homey, eclectic and comforting. Now it's sterile, bright and uninspired. The service seems rushed. There was little time between courses and no banter with the waitstaff, which was one of the highlights of the previous trips here. Each time a plate was finished, it was whisked away and a new dish was brought out. All I heard was American voices. It is tourist high season so I guess that's to be expected, but what used to be a small, homey, local-feeling place on a tiny side street near Piazza Barberini is now an assembly line tourist trap. The food is good, steak tartare was fresh and covered with truffles, porcini and ricotta stuffed ravioli was excellent, as was the panna cotta for dessert. The other great thing about this place a few years ago was the price and value. It seems like the price of everything has doubled, which deflates the value. It was very disappointing and although I have recommended Osteria Barberini many times to friends visiting Rome, I'm not sure I will anymore. Now I will be searching for a new favorite restaurant in Rome, and fortunately, there are lots of choices. read more

We popped in without a reservation and they made room for us. Our waiter was nice and informed us of some Roman versions of things we knew. The local specialties were on the menu, so we jumped in with Negroni cocktails, followed by carbonara and amatriciana which were both amazing and reasonably priced. The quantity was perfect and the seasoning and textures spot on. We finished with tiramisu which was also yummy (even tho there is no booze in it like American tiramisu). If you are in Rome, please make a reservation for this restaurant. Don't try to walk in because most of the time, you wouldn't get a seat at all. We went there on Saturday before they open and expecting to eat there, but it turn out it was fully booked. We were so disappointed it. Luckily, we stay longer in Rome and we made a reservation for Monday since they weren't open on Sunday. The pasta dishes were really different from other places. There were lots of black truffle on top of pasta and the texture of the fresh pasta was cooked in perfection. The flavor was also on point, lots of truffle with each bite of pasta. RESTAURANT RUN BY A THEIF: My wife a I went to dinner here last week as we were staying close by to the restaurant. So I ordered an entry and a bread basket. Don't remember the entry however the bread basket was priced at 3 euros. When the bill came it had a notice of Focaccia bread at 6 euros which was the bread basket. My wife and I recently enjoyed a delicious lunch at Osteria Barberini which is known for it's variety of truffle dishes. I had the Fettuccine con Porcini, Crema di Tartufo e Tartufo Fresco. Al dente pasta was covered in a rich, earthy and creamy truffle sauce mixed with tender porcini mushrooms. My wife had the Lasagna, Crema di Tartufo, Funghi Porcini, Mozzarella e Tartufo Fresco which was flavorful and filled with creamy mozzarella. We also split a side of Verdure Grigliate which consisted of meaty, tender, and lightly smokey grilled eggplant, zucchini, and peppers with a drizzle of fresh olive oil. For dessert we had the Tiramisu which was richly creamy with a heavenly moist cake. It was one of the best tiramisu's we have tried. Please be sure to make a reservation in advance. Truffles galore....how can you not like? Knowing I didn't have a reservation, we got here before they opened on Tuesday for lunch. Not on the main street, but easy enough to find. For those that did not have reservations, you went all the way down to the bottom floor. Not a problem though as service was still great, though you needed to be done within an hour. Although I really wanted to try the white truffle, the truffle lasagna was calling me. It was worth every single bite, and only 18 euros! My family and I headed to Osteria Barberini for a quick lunch before our catacombs tour. The location was about a block away from where we were going to meet for our tour. We walked into a cute little restaurant and the person sitting at the front desk asked us if we had a reservation. We did not, however, they were able to seat our party of six immediately, on the bottom level of the restaurant. Our server came over and greeted and joked with our group. He was very personable, jovial and funny. Great customer service! We ordered a bottle of wine, which is like a prerequisite when eating Italian cuisine and then we quickly communicated our orders. I got the linguini with clams (in white sauce), the hubby got Rigatoni Alla Gricia (rigatoni, bacon and pecorino cheese), my brother and his girlfriend got Tagliolini All'Astice, Datterini E Lime (homemade spaghetti, lobster, cherry tomatoes and lime) and a steak dish (I and they don't remember the name). Unfortunately, I can't recall what my parents got. The food came out in an average amount of time and unfortunately, everything was just okay. My lobster and clams needed more pizazz and seasoning. It was lackluster. My hubby said his food was fine, but nothing memorable or over the top. My brother and his girlfriend LOVED their pasta and lobster and said it was flavorful, with perfectly cooked al dente pasta and succulent lobster. However, they said their steak tasted like dog food (direct quote; sorry!) As I stated earlier we wanted a quick bite to eat, so we swallowed our food and asked for our check. So there is a lot of talk on here about a grumpy man at the front desk, and I can attest to this as we also encountered him, BUT, I think I understand his frustration because we ALSO walked in without a reservation and I'm sure that gets annoying. He told me no, he couldn't seat us that day, and so I asked to make reservations for the next night, and he obliged and wrote my name down. We were hesitant to return since we were kind of scared of him, but I'm glad we did because when we showed up for our reservation, he was jovial and welcoming and we were seated at the table right next to him and he spoke to us a few times before someone else took his spot at the reception.
