Hidden gem!!!! It's off the beaten path. And away from all the tourists/ people. And worth the extra steps. I got the carbonara and it was the best in Rome! This carbonara is made with cream cheese and is so creamy and cheesy! 10/10 My husband got the tagl pasta dish and loved it. We did not make a reservation here but this place was on my husbands list of places to eat at and I am glad we stopped by! I am a fan of aglio e olio and wanted to try it here.. when in Rome right? On our second night in Rome, the concierge at our hotel made reservations at La Tavernetta 48 for dinner. I saw the great reviews and good rating on yelp, that's why I picked this place. Since it was a last minute reservation, there were no available tables at the outdoor area. We were seated inside, which was completely fine besides the American music blasting on the speakers. It would have been nice it they played classical or Italian music. The place was small but it had the old and classic Italian interiors. Service was good, not great. We noticed that all the other customers were American tourists as well. We still hoped to get authentic Italian dishes though. We ordered: PROSCIUTTO AND BUFFALO MOZZARELLA- great CHARCUTERIE BOARD- good variety of meats, cheeses, and jams VEAL- this was a disappointment. The dish was bland and dry. BAKED LASAGNA- it was okay BEEF FILLET- mediocre TAGLIOLINI W/ TRUFFLE CREAM- nothing special CUTTLEFISH INK PASTA- delicious I was the only one who was satisfied with the choice of dish. My cuttlefish ink pasta was prepared just right. The other dishes were quite disappointing, flavor -wise. We just weren't wowed by any of the dishes.They were all plated and presented beautifully though. Maybe we had high expectations because of the good yelp ratings and reviews. Overall, the restaurant was nice and clean. The service was pleasant and had a lively vibe from all the other tourists. Personally, I would have preferred to have dined at a small place, where locals would choose to dine. Next time I have to remember to snap a photo "before" I start eating but as you can tell, I enjoyed my meal. They do offer a fixed menu for lunch that includes a first, second and dessert. But I opted instead just for the carbonara off the main menu. Overall, service and food was good. The restaurant does have a cute ambiance too, doesn't feel overly touristy... My wife had the roasted octopus and I had the sea bass over polenta. We started with bruschetta which comes with four pieces. The nice touch is you get two pieces with tomatoes and one with prosciutto and one with mushrooms. They served the bruschetta on gluten free bread for me and regular bread for my wife in the same order. They modified the sauce on my fish to be gluten free. Staff was really nice. I asked her what's better carbonara or truffle pasta and she literally couldn't pick so she said she'll ask the chef if he can do a truffle carbonara pasta. They give you champagne as soon as you sit down They give you the Wi-Fi password so it's traveler friendly! Truffle carbonara pasta: (4/5) it was super heavy. The truffle was good, but I don't know how I feel with it being combined with bacon. They are both really good ingredients that don't really need to be combined together and when combined together it doesn't add to become an amazing plate, just the same great plate with more ingredients. I ate here summer of 2019. If I were to eat here again (and if Italy ever allows Americans back in after COVID19), I would order the lunch set which comes with a pasta (first course), meat (second course), wine, and water. The staff are extremely kind and they made my family and I feel very welcomed in a new country. Everything that was ordered was delicious! If you're visiting the country and trying this place out, I would suggest that you either try out the lunch set or choose whatever sounds good to you because I really don't think you can go wrong. Really good restaurant in Rome with some amazing pasta! We came late in the evening, about 8:30 and 9 and were able to get a spot. We decided to get a burrata and honestly I would not recommend it unless you love anchovies. It was topped with them and took over the taste of everything else. Besides that we had the truffle fettuccine which was very good and flavorful and the carbonara which flavor was amazing. In one of our last days in Rome @safaduffa and I happened upon a little restaurant in an alley called @ristorantelatavernetta48. At this restaurant I saw lasagna on the menu, an item I don't think I'd seen on any other menu on our Italy trip, and given lasagna is one of my favorite foods (like Garfield) I had to order it in Italy. This turned out to be possibly the best lasagna I've had in my entire life (don't tell my wife or mother in law who had that title before) let's breakdown why: 1. Sauce: this was an all beef tomato based meat sauce and anyone who has been to Italy knows that the tomatoes here are just next level. Fresh Italian tomatoes are unbeatable 2. Pasta: using fresh lasagna sheets the acetal pasta was perfectly Al dente - this tends to be my biggest gripe with lasagna that isn't homemade 3. Preparation: this lasagna comes out in an individual cast iron pan and is topped with fresh mozzarella (Safa does this as well) and it has to be the reason it comes out so well, it looks delicious and it tastes delicious If you're in Rome you should definitely check out La Tavernetta 48 and try out what might be the best lasagna I've ever had!! read more

This was located right below our Airbnb and was highly recommended by our host. We came in on a Monday evening around 9PM and waited about ten minutes before getting a table. We ordered the seafood linguine, prawn risotto, and assorted bruschetta. The assorted bruschetta included two with tomatoes, one mushroom, and one with sausage - they ran out of artichoke. The tomato was the best out of the three. We then received the two main dishes and it was both inedible. The risotto was overly salted and was not cooked throughly. I only ate what I could of the prawns and barely touched risotto. You could feel the bits from the shells of the clams and mussels in the linguine - it definitely added a crunch component. And the seafood in the linguine dish still had a very fishy taste to it. My boyfriend and I could barely eat a quarter of dishes and was very disappointed since this was our last meal in Rome. I'm not sure why this place was so highly rate when the food tasted below mediocre. We both agreed that this was probably the worse meal we had in Italy. On the hand, service was amazing and attentive. But the food was just horrible. read more

The server recommended a moderately priced bottle of local white wine which was great. We both opted for specials of the evening. Did a bit of yelp research before deciding to make a dinner reservation for this place. I'm glad I did. The mussels and clams (€12) were so good that we had to order it again. The truffled pasta (€20) full dish name was "Tagliolini pasta with truffle's cream, crispy ham and shaved black truffles." I'll just refer to it as truffled pasta. I got lucky since it was a special and I finally had it in Italy. I like truffles so I was very much looking forward to this dish. It did not disappoint. The truffle taste was not as strong as truffle-flavored oil, but it had more umami and earthy tastes. I savored every bite and had most of the dish although we shared everything. Lobster spaghetti (€20) was not bad as it had a lot of the lobster taste in the spaghetti. However, it paled when compared to the pasta with truffle. Surprisingly, the steak (€25) was the weakest dish. After tasting quite a bit of steak in Italy, this did not stand out. Would have gladly traded it for 2 bowls of mussels and clams. Tiramisu (€5) was finally good. Very much like the ones I make. Panna cotta (€5)'s consistency was more firm than ones I had made, but tasted pretty good. We used yelp to find restaurants during the five days we were in Rome and La Tavernetta was so much better than the other restaurants that we've tried. It was so good that we even returned for the second time. During our first dinner, we ordered the truffle and porcini mushroom pasta, beef tartare (which also had truffle in it), and Saltimbocca alla Romana. The dishes were amazing! The truffle pasta and beef tartare were part of the specials menu so be on the look out for that. We loved the truffle pasta and beef tartare so much that we decided to get it for lunch. La Tavernetta didn't have the special menu out during lunch. We asked the waiter if it was possible to order it for lunch and they were happy to serve it to us. They were also very generous with the amount of truffle mushrooms on the dishes. We also ordered bruschetta and carbonara as well. Both are also tasty! Came alone my last night in Rome. Didn't want it to be, but it was, the best meal I had in Italy. Had to wait 10 minutes for a table at 9:30 PM on a Saturday night but totally worth it. They gave me a small glass of Prosecco while I waited. Ordered the trio of Tartare. There was some kind of magical, balsamic vinegar cream thing that just brought everything together. Ordered the Alla'amatraciana and lasagna. Lasagna was meaty and cheesy, less tomato sauce, which I've prefer. This restaurant was off the beaten path from the touristy restaurants. I like to go to restaurants that locals go too and this was filled with them. We sat in the back room with everyone else and it was filled with tables. We were welcomed with complementary champagne! The menu is extensive with many options. They have it offered in English and Italian. They have chef specials along with their regular menu. I of course had to try the truffled pasta because it was a chef recommendation! I got the house red wine and it was smooth and flavorful. The truffle pasta was amazing! It is a must when coming to Italy. I am glad I ordered it. The price is not bad either. My husband got the baked lasagna and he loved it. He was pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat in the dish and the flavor. I will be coming back here when I return to Rome. I was staying in an Airbnb nearby and was stressing out over options for Rome for the final leg of my trip. I had just come from some rather delicious areas of the country, that I was a bit nervous that some local food in Rome might be subpar since it draws in a lot of tourists. I was wrong! The staff was highly attentive, the ambiance was lovely, and the food was stellar. Also, the prices were very reasonable. Being in Rome for my first night, I wanted to have some authentic local carbonara. La Tavernetta 48 did not disappoint.
