When we come to Rome, we always come here. It is our favorite restaurant in Rome. The owners always welcome us with open arms no matter how many years have passed since our last visit. This time was no different. Mario was so happy to see us. We were introduced to a new server, Mimo, who looked after us as well as Mario. We enjoyed their house white wine. My husband had their classic lasagna - a generous portion of meat and cheese lasagna - he was a happy camper. I could not wait to savor their delicious oxtail stew - two large portions of oxtail cooked perfectly in a delectable tomato sauce. I was in heaven. We returned two more times to enjoy the ambience and deliciousness of Alfredo e Ada. I again had the Oxtail on our next visit that was equally as delicious as the first time I enjoyed it. The tiniest restaurant in Rome with fabulous food. We found Alfredo e Ada through yelp and thought the food looked incredible - we were correct. When we showed up (around 8pm), there was a line with about 10 people ahead of us, and were worried we'd be waiting too long for the size of the restaurant. We were assured by the waitstaff that their table turnover rate was very fast and we would only be waiting 15-20 minutes max. They were correct! We ordered from the chalkboard menu outside while we were still in line, so the food came out almost immediately. The rigatoni bolognese was incredible (cacio e pepe, too), and my friend loved her chicken dish. The ambiance was intimate and casual, it felt like family was cooking for us. We also were served extra house wine (shh!) and were not rushed out, even despite the fast table turnover rate, as I'm used to in NYC. Would highly recommend this trattoria. In our neighborhood, the restaurants were awful, we had to walk a way to get here. Was worth every step. We stayed by the pont Sant'angelo, too close to the sights to provide very good examples of Roman food. Walking a bit away we found this incredible, established, family run trattoria. Can I Yelp about an experience that may have taken place before Yelp even existed? Why not? My wife and I visited Rome in July 2004, and stayed at a wonderful shared apartment that was rented out by a funky little hotel near the train station. Since Yelp was founded that same month, we didn't have any online resources to help us navigate this wonderful city. But our landlords did provide a delightful pamphlet with recommendations from the owners of the hotel, for their favorite places in Rome. Alfredo e Ada was one of the suggestions, and the experience remains fresh in my mind, 16 years later. Like everyone else, we shared a table with strangers, and ate whatever was being delivered from the kitchen that night. Just great, simple food, served in a wonderful little space. My understanding is that Ada passed away in 2009 (her husband had already left his name behind when we visited), but it appears that younger generations are still running the restaurant. If you find yourself in Rome, and are looking for a nice dinner and a real feel for the city, give them a try. read more

The beauty of Italy dining are the many restaurants nested in small alleys that locals seem to flock to. This restaurant is a perfect example of that. It's extremely small and only houses about 8 tables. There are no menus, just the list of foods served that day which is rattled off by the waitress, for which there is only one for the restaurant. We came here for lunch mid week and had the oxtail, potatoes and balsamic chicken. Wine is also poured from a spicket and served in normal water glasses. This is a place built on experience and not looks. The potatoes and balsamic were outstanding. Potatoes were crispy, season and cooked perfectly. The chicken was tender and the balsamic glaze was delicious. The oxtail came with a bit of a problem. I bit into it and it was ice cold. It was strange and disappointing given how amazing everything else was. I sent the dish back and they politely cooked it longer before serving again about 10 minutes later. The dish was very good. It was served in a tomatoey sauce and had a slight sweetness to it. Not the best oxtail I've eaten, but a very good dish. All in all a really cool restaurant in a small alley that's absolutely worth trying. The serving of the cold food was clearly a rare error, so that wouldn't stop me from coming back again. There was one other group, and we were concerned we wouldn't get a table, but the kind server said they would accommodate us anyway. No menus are available, and everything the server offered sounded great. Because other Yelp reviews that recommend the artichoke lasagna, we ordered that, a chicken roll with mushroom, and the oxtail stew. The oxtail was very tender and flavorful, and the artichoke lasagna was seriously one of the best lasagnas we've had in our life. And we've had LOTS of lasagna. Everything was just so delicious. I had 4 full days in Rome and ate here twice. I would've gone all 4 days, but they're closed Sunday and Monday. A sweet lady (the only worker not in the kitchen) came by to recite the changing daily menu, the prices unclear. She waited there for us to quickly decide (we weren't rushed), and we ordered the oxtail stew, carbonara, stuffed zucchini in tomato sauce, and house red wine. The stew, a classic Roman dish, was served with bread and so incredibly flavorful. I wish it was socially acceptable to lick your plate clean because I 100% would have! My friend said the carbonara was good (served al dente, which I find not popular with Americans like myself), and he RAVED about the zucchini with veal (I think). He let me have a taste and gave me more when he saw how much I enjoyed it. After a lovely meal, she wrote down the total on table and gave us a little wine and some cookies to be dipped. Only 28 euros total! The next day, I went back for a solo dinner and got the rolled chicken in balsamic sauce and the stuffed zucchini because I loved it so much. The chicken filled me up, but I forced myself to eat the zucchini because it was SO GOOD!! Again, she came back with cookies and wine to end the meal. It was 18 euros for that meal, but this was me being a fatass and ordering 2 entrees for myself. Everything in Rome screams tourist to me, but this place is as authentic as it gets. With only 7 tables and seats for about 25 people, it was very calming being somewhere with the locals. It is reasonably priced and the food is AMAZING!! If you could only go to one place in Rome, COME HERE! Or if you have multiple days in Rome, COME HERE FOR ALL OF THEM! I assure you anything you get here will be delicious. Somehow found this restaurant just 2 min from our apartment rental. Walking far for dinner was out of the question with the heat. I looked in and decided it was simple and would suffice. Unlike most places we received water without asking, but maybe that's also because there was no A/C. Just something to know for those visiting in summer. "I will try and recite the menu" our waitress said. We listened, heard what we wanted, and ordered. Traveling around Europe a lot recently this was actually a plus to be prompted somewhat to order off the bat. Too often, after receiving a menu, you are left alone for long after you've been ready to order. We also didn't know the prices of what we ordered but that showed they were confident the food would be enjoyable and reasonably priced (both proved to be true). You look around and realize this tiny (borderline congested) space can sit no more than 25-28 people. It is and looks old and as if updating it is of no matter to them. They like it as is and I'm inclined to agree. That said, it is very clean and maintained. Ordered: Salad Meat roll with spinach- flavors were there but the meat did feel prepared the way I like. The spinach was excellent. Artichoke Lasagna- perfectly baked and fantastic Just and FYI - there is no dessert here. We came on a Tuesday night around 9 and waited ~15 minutes for a table. There are around 7 tables for 4 and we were seated with another couple (communal style). The waitress was very nice and recited the menu in English (no prices but there was a menu posted outside so we knew what we were in for). I ordered the stuffed chicken with balsamic sauce and my boyfriend ordered the artichoke lasagna. Both were phenomenal - the chicken was cooked perfectly and the lasagna was flavorful.
