We had a fabulous evening dining here! We had a 7:30pm reservation for 6 on a Thursday - our table was ready when we arrived. The food and service were awesome! We ordered a bottle of wine and a few beers - all were very good. Ordered appetizers of caprese, prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella as well as another platter of assorted items. They were all delicious. For main courses we ordered several different pastas and sliced beef with mushrooms and potatoes plus a side of asparagus. The pasta was amazing too. Loved the truffle flavoring. The ambiance is very nice - off the main road and tables outside. The host was wonderful too - she's warm and friendly. We can't want to come back. Who eats at the same restaurant 2 nights in a row when in Rome? We did! The food was excellent, the ambiance was lovely, but what really made us return was the staff. They were so welcoming and helpful. The first night we shared the mini octopus and a tortellini dish, but night 2 we ordered a salad, filet with truffles and long pasta with wild mushrooms. Ok, so. Be careful. One source told me they closed at midnight, so I booked a tour that ended at 10, hoping to catch them late. Luckily, I checked another source and realized they closed earlier. We arrived (after a dead sprint from piazza navona) 25 minutes before closing. They were kind enough to seat us and offered a full menu experience (including dessert and wine) without making us feel awful. I absolutely love this place, and I make arrangements whenever I'm in Italy to somehow make sure I can get here fit a meal. This time we had the arrabiata and finished with tiramisu. We were actually looking for this restaurant because of a recommendation. But as we were passing the address, one of the waiters yelled at us to come in. I was given some advice during this trip, and the advice was if any of the restaurant staff yells at you to come into their restaurant walk away. But we were actually looking for this restaurant because of a recommendation. Service was wonderful, seemed like a lot of the servers were family. But when our table of four wanted two appetizers, he said that he would prepare something for us. He came out with an extremely large platter of appetizers, and this was after we had already ordered our main meals. Needless to say, we could hardly finish any of the food they brought, which was very good. But the price for the appetizer plate, of which we only wanted to, was four times the price of the two appetizers. We really felt it was a bait and switch. read more

We sat at the outdoor dining area, romantically lit by torches and framed by lush greenery. Wine and appetizer platter were excellent. Everyone loved their entrees. Grabbed dinner with a group here on our final night in Italy. It is in a cute little alley way, so it is not near a busy street. We had a group of 7 and I'm glad we had a reservation, as it is small. The service was very kind, as our group asked lots of questions. We got a couple of prosciutto and mozzarella plates and the antipasti plate for the table. I loved the antipasti plate. My husband and I followed the server's recommendation for pasta and got the cacio e pepe and the gnocchi sorrentino. Both were delicious. Prices were very good for the quality of the food. This may have been the best steak I have every eaten in my life. I can't explain how tender it was. I wish I could remember what it was called but I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. My daughter had gluten free pasta that she described as unworldly. Though we arrived tired and grumpy, the staff were lovely, some of the best service I've ever had anywhere on the planet. We felt like we were at a very welcoming party in someone's home. The decor is quaint- puts you back in medical time with wine bottles lining the walls- makes for great atmosphere. Good selection of approachable wine list. We ordered Ravioli, spaghetti with muscle and clam, short pasta with bacon and truffle. All pasta were perfectly prepared - chewy and piping hot- and seasoned well. All three are worth getting but we agree the short pasta with truffle and bacon is the best. For second course we had Osso Buco and grilled sea bass. Fish is fresh and both wonderfully prepared. Our first dinner in Roma, got an excellent recommendation from our Home Away owner, Giuseppe. What a great location nearby our apartment. Super friendly server Fabio, who was courteous, happy and prompt; plus all service from the entire staff was nice, gave us a really fantastic experience!! Vecchia Locanda was on Sinabaldi just off the main road. Ambience was perfect sitting on the patio on beautiful evening to enjoy many wonderful and tasty dishes. Truly this was one of our best meals for the entire trip! We were hungry so tried Caprese Buffalo mozzeralla and fresh tomatoes, plus an appetizer of sautéed calamari and zucchini. Both were very good flavor and portion size enough to share for our group of 4. The entree was fresh pasta with truffle sauce and a fresh made short spaghetti with seafood. Both were excellent! Also, had vino de casa Rosso which was a Merlot, smooth and easy to drink! So yes, we loved this restaurant and service so much, we returned for a second dinner with Fabio, which I personally enjoyed even more! This time, he recommended me to order meat - Veal Marsala, WOW it was so tender you really could use a fork to cut the meat. This dish melted in your mouth, plus the sauce/gravy was so flavorful I dipped fresh bread in the sauce not to waste any of it. Plus they prepared for me a small side of pasta, fresh spaghetti cooked al Dante with some garlic butter and cheese - outstanding you have to order both of these dishes to appreciate it! Finally, we topped it off with dessert of homemade Tiramisu, also perfectly prepared, excellent taste - and they only make limited number so order one early to reserve one. My husband had lemon gnocchi, softer texture, also pretty flavorful. The lentil soup was a mixture of different beans and barley, wasn't blended. The romantic candlelit outdoor tables are in a quaint alley where you can watch the locals stroll by with their dogs. The service was friendly and just perfect, we weren't rushed at all. The pastas are made in-house and are really good. I had a super tasty spinach ravioli with tomato sauce. We shared the artichoke appetizer. Since we just wanted a light pasta meal, we only ordered a carafe of house wine, an artichoke to share, and 2 pasta dishes. Nobody blinked an eye. At some restaurants, they get a little pissy if you don't order a second course but it was no problem to just have pastas. All in all, a decent meal (but not a particularly memorable one). We liked it so much, we came back the next night for dinner and that was also one of the best meals we had our entire trip :) The staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. It amazes me that even in a country where they don't expect tips, they go out of their way to provide excellent service. Food was excellent. In both nights, we tried the octopus with potatoes and olives (came as a recommendation from our server and was SO good, we got it both nights), caprese salad, ravioli with mushrooms (amazing), trofie with truffles, bacon, and brie (to die for), tonnarelli with truffles, and veal saltimbocca (melt in your mouth tender veal). Their house wine was also very tasty. It is normal to pay a service charge at restaurants in Italy so expect 2.5 euros/person, which is not a big deal. Everything was great and we would highly recommend this small place for dinner. Make sure to make a reservation! read more

Absolutely perfect for our first night in Rome! It was especially nice because they had gluten free options (Celiac) that were all Incredibly delicious! We were able to sit down stairs in their wine room which we really loved... very romantic. By far the best dining experience we had in Rome. So amazing that we had dinner twice during our 4 night stay. If there's one thing I love about Italy is finding these off the beaten path family restaurants. On our first night my bf and I enjoyed a quiet romantic dinner outside where we shared the cacio w pepe, Italian red wine and we each ordered an entree. The steak and potatoes were delicious, the mushrooms were fragrant and added the perfect touch to the dish. The sauce was so good that I couldn't get enough of it with the bread. On the 2nd night we had the amatriciana and just like the cacio e pepe it was delicious. Since these are regional dishes I highly recommend trying them here. Of course no Italian dinner is complete without dolce, and the tiramisu tasted like pure love! I also can't say enough about the service! Our waiter was so gracious and kind, that even though they were closing shop on our 2nd visit he was kind enough to let us dine! He remembered us from the night before and though we were limited on options the staff was super kind and we enjoyed our meal and wine without feeling rushed.
