Every part of this experience was fantastic. Bernardo and Cassandra, who own Culinaria, were so warm and welcoming. Even though we showed up at 10:20pm before their kitchen closed at 11pm, they were ready to serve. We'd found Culinaria because on Google they've got over 1,000 great reviews--and the food lived up to the hype! I loved my Amatriciana with rigatoni. The guanciale was perfectly crispy, the pasta was just al dente enough, and the sauce was incredibly flavorful. I'm gonna be thinking about this meal when I get back to the US. Also, don't miss the deconstructed Tiramisu! It was exactly what I was looking for and I'm glad we stopped in. read more

Best Italian food Near Rome Termini! Huge massive portions. Every dish is large enough to be a single meal. Even the appetizers. We didn't realize the size of the dishes so we ordered a lot more than we should have. We spent 118 Euro total and could have easily cut the choices in half and still walked out full. The lamb was highlight of the night. It's prepared and served with the fat on. Most Americans might not understand or expect it. There is still a lot of meat and it's the best lamb meat I've had. The meat is so tender and soft that the knife cut through like cutting butter. My mouth is watering just talking about it. We also had fettuccine with chicken, an arugula salad, a duck leg appetizer, a shrimp appetizer and a ribeye meal. That's basically 6 meals in total. We had several things to take home. I loved the arugula salad but my wife thought it bitter. The fettuccine and chicken was awesome. My wife loved that. The duck is great with the sauce so make sure to dip each bite. The shrimp appetizer is only 3 shrimp. The rest is a cheese with an olive and tomato topping. Mix this topping with the cheese or it might be too olive favored for some people. The ribeye was the lowest part. Kinda reminded me of a ribeye from a Dennys in America. Granted The potatoes with it are actually incredible but I recommend a different meal choice. The service is great. They spoke English. The waitress let me use her phone to see the meals before ordering. We had our meal on a Thursday night. If we didn't get there at 8:30 pm I think we would have been competing for tables. I highly recommend setting up reservations if you go on a weekend. read more

Amazing flavors and quality - highly recommend eating here. Everything we had was so delicious. The sides he put with the lamb were I think my favorite combo ever- so unique. And not salty and not too cheesy- very creative. Our waitress was super sweet and patient with me bc I was so indecisive with all the good stuff on the menu. The risotto was soooo good. We happened upon this place because we were staying at the nearby Palazzo Montemartini hotel. This is a small restaurant- and the staff gladly speaks English and provides English menus. The menu is short- it's a small restaurant. They do fewer dishes but they do them well. They do have an inside seating area - but it is downstairs from street level and it is hot inside. The general seating area is 'Al fresco' on the street. This happens to be a relatively secluded and quiet alley - with tall buildings on either side- so the shading is just right. It was a 92 degree day in Rome and yet when we sat down outside here for dinner- it was perfect and comfortable. I had the Lamb chops- they were delicious and tender and i would order them again! I do wish that the plate had some GREEN on it though. Some broccoli or asparagus? The plate just lacked that spark of color...She had the black squid ink pasta... to be honest - the squid ink pasta is done a little too al dente- not as chewy as a typical pasta- and - oddly - this dish lacks flavor?!?. But the service here was kind and personal, the red Chiraz wine was quite nice, the outdoor seating was actually quite pleasant, and the food was good. I cannot say it was 'great' but i can say it was good. In the north Termini area this is a good find. read more

After trying out countless number of mediocre & touristy places in Rome, we were so lucky to find this little gem at the corner of a quiet street. Excellent find within walking distance of our hotel. We made a dinner reservation for our large party and were seated inside. The service was immediately noteworthy and attentive; the waitress explained their entire menu in English for us. We arrived not feeling particularly hungry or intending to order much, but the food was absolutely exquisite. The lamb was especially delicious and unbelievably tender (the waitress informed us it had been slow cooked for 13! hours) - we actually ordered a second serving to share. We were so impressed by the quality of food that we ordered a dessert - the coffee creme brûlée - and were not disappointed. Last nite in Rome and stayed at a hotel near the train station for an early train out to the airport and found this place via trip advisor and glad I did. The staff and the food were both wonderful. The presentation and flavors were both creative. The restaurant interior is a bit basic and could use a little bit of creative flair but maybe that will come. So if your are In the train station area at a hotel or just in the area in general defiantly give it a try. Great value for the quality of food. On a side note I don't think I would travel out of my way to get here. If staying further away there are so many options in the city the neighborhood its in doesn't offer much else. BUT...defiantly a great option if your are close bye. read more

With a little research, you really don't have to do much in Rome to avoid the tourist traps. Found this place about a 10 minute walk from where we were staying (Hotel Artemide). Very small so make a reservation. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff (English spoken, although we had two Italian speakers at the table). Some restaurants try to make "clever" dishes that come out jumbled and just not that tasty (we ran into one of these on our stay). Culinaria makes clever, interesting food that tastes amazing! Everything we tried was really good or great -- a seafood soup special, meatballs with caponata, rigatoni in a three-tomato marinara, spaghetti with duck ragu, roasted lamb with onions and mashed potatoes, and others. Oh, and the desserts were just as good -- a pistachio semi-freddo that I would fly back to Rome for alone, and a deconstructed tiramisu that put to shame the tired versions of that dessert you may have run into. We did not eat at any high-end, "fancy" restaurants while in Rome. But, of the many wonderful places we tried, Culinaria was the best food we ate the whole trip. Make time to stop by. read more

Hidden gem except they have thousands of reviews. The service was above average. We had a table the same height as the stairs which was a little dirty. The spaghetti with ink sauce and seafood was excellent. Probably the best item on the first course menu. Their menu changes every three months but the carbonara is always on the menu. The starter octopus was also excellent with tender tentacles with a smoked flavor wrapped in real bacon. I can't remember what my husband and sister ordered but their plates were empty. My wife and I had dinner here a couple nights ago and have to say, this was our best meal in Rome!!! The waitstaff is very attentive and were happy to help answer any questions you may have. My wife noted the chefs (open kitchen) viewing the dining room to see if people were enjoying their meals. As far as the menu is concerned, this place specializes in seafood, so if you don't enjoy that, this won't be the place for you. If you do, however, you're in for a treat!! We split an order of veal meatballs in pumpkin, shrimp carbonara, turbot in a zucchini sauce, and a deconstructed tiramisu. All were fantastic, with the tiramisu eliciting laughs from the kitchen at my wife's response to her first bite! We would highly recommend this place to anyone interested in a great meal in a city with thousands of mediocre restaurants!!! read more

Delicious!! This place is AMAZING! It was recommended by our hotel concierge. We were welcomed by friendly staff, the food was fresh, clean, creative and delicious. The octopus wrapped with prosciutto was to die for, the pasta was perfectly cooked and the destructured tiramisu was yummy!! Highly recommend!! What a great place. When we booked our room at a local hotel, the restaurant popped up on Google maps. I checked the menu, which was a 'sample' menu, since it changes seasonally, and it looked amazing. The menu offered the night we went (New Years Day) did not disappoint. the food was amazing, as was the staff. Even the desk clerk at our hotel said, "The things they do with food..." The worst meal in Italy we had. Other reviews must be fake. Food was over priced, over cooked and way too salty. When I was asked how the meal was I was honest and tried to tell them in a nice way it was terrible. Instead of apologizing the ladies tried to argue with me. They said I don't know what italian food supposed to taste like. I've owned 7 restaurants and I travel all over the world so I do know what good and bad food taste like. There is open kitchen with about 2 chefs and 1 server, but we didn't wait that long for our food. We ordered 2 dishes (octopus & shrimp pasta) along with the grilled lamb. It is an unforgettable experience. We looked for a place that provides not so traditional Italian food, and here we are. Place is pretty and have menus with different language. Appetizers is so good and I never try raw shrimp with tomato sauce which seems to be a tradition course. Although the beef is over cooked which we asked for medium rare, it is still tasty. I really enjoy the lamb with mint sauce, meat is crispy and a lit oily which is nice to serve with mint Saúde. Lobster pasta is also amazing, the sauce can have the taste of lobster is not easy, but the chef did it. Desserts were also nice to try all of them. Waiters and waitresses are all nice and helpful. Very friendly and unassuming hostess and server. Best service we've had in Italy really. We had the hardest time finding a decent place to eat with all the tourist traps around. Octopus was well cooked and wrapped in this, flavor enhancing but not overpowering bacon. I would have preferred a more traditional creamier sauce but the other person in my party loved it. Everything we ate at Culinaria was delicious! This restaurant provides a wanted break from typical Roman food with unique flavor combinations and variations on "normal" dishes. I went here based on Yelp reviews, plus it was just one block from my hotel. It doesn't get much better than that. I had linguine with lobster and a rib-eye steak, which was served with a potato/onion gratin. Everything was very good (I don't use ridiculous adjectives, I've never had an orgasm eating food) To me, to judge an eating experience goes further than the food. The service was great, friendly, and efficient. The setting included cloth table cloths and cloth napkins, always a nice touch. It got busy after I got there and the server took some time to get me my check, but she apologized and gave me a little piece of a tasty biscotti. All around, I think they deserve this 5-star rating. The location is a bit tricky to find. They're located next to the Smooth Hotel Roma Repubblica. Would I come here again? Definitely. read more
