The food was amazing! Texture, flavor and portions were perfect! We ordered 2 pizzas: calabrese and margherita. The tomato's sauce tasted so fresh, with the perfect amount of salt. The chile oil was amazing! I wish they would bottle and sell and ship to the US. The service was the best service we received in Rome and will definitely return. It's a family vibe which we loved! Authentic family oriented restaurant! We talked to the other tables who were equally loving the food and service. The atmosphere was welcoming and felt like an authentic Italian family who welcomed you with open arms . The food was very affordable and not overly priced like a lot of the restaurants in Rome. Quality, ambience, taste and quality are 10/10!

After walking quite for a while trough Rome and checking out the numerous sights we felt a bit hungry. Not far away from the Spanish Steps in a smaller street we walked by this place. It looked very charming and the menu had some good items on it. So we walked in. It was pretty busy all night, but always some tables available, so we got seated right away. A really comfy, charming and cosy restaurant. Typical Italian style, felt at home right away. Service was great, very helpful, very friendly....very entertaining. Took care of us very well all night. We ordered the Frittura di Mare (fried seafood) and the veal Saltimbocca (veal with ham and sage) in wine sauce. A half-litre of white house wine with the meal (just for 6 Euros). The fried calamaris could have been a wee bit crispier, but besides that a very enjoyable meal with nice and fresh seafood. The Saltimbocca was fantastic. I've had this dish several times before, but never on a wine sauce. And the sauce is what made it special, really really tasty. Definitely will serve in wine sauce as well from now on when cooking it at home. A really nice, enjoyable dinner in a family-friendly, casual atmosphere. Good times. And keep in mind, we're in the middle of Rome: and we just paid right under 50 Euros for the dinner. Talk about value!

This was a hidden gem- the staff including our waiter was great, attentive, and friendly. The food was delish- ambiance gets a little tight but they had extra seating in the back, so that helped a bit. We randomly walked by and got a table quickly.

    Grilled beef - incredibly good!

As in the old saying "All roads lead to Rome", if you are in Rome, your roads should lead you to this place. Very conveniently located, just minutes from Spanish steps and Trevi Fountain, Hostaria la Scalinata is a true hidden gem! Don't waste your time trying to find anything else, the place offers the most amazing, authentic Italian food you can only dream of! We ended up coming back almost every night we spent in Rome. Our server, Ameteo, was absolutely incredible, he made us feel so welcome every time, it truly felt like we were are visiting our family. The food is incredible, every bite is like a symphony in your mouth. Everything in their menu is fantastic, but their burrata appetizer, carbonara, lasagna, pizza, meatballs, and grilled meats are simply magnificent! The desserts are amazing too! Not to mention their house wine and their limoncello, hands down the best in Rome! If you live in Rome and can visit them any time, I envy you. If you are in Rome for a short visit, then you only have a limited amount of days to try an amazing, true Italian cousine - don't waste these days on other places! Come to Hostaria la Scalinata, you will not leave disappointed! Can't wait for our next trip to Rome to visit them again! Thank you very much to Amedeo and to their chef for making this experience so unforgettable!

Stopped by here randomly because it's near the shopping area. Upon entering, the owner was very friendly and treated us very warmly throughout the entire meal. For food, we got the pizza with spicy salami and pasta bolognese. Both were good, but a little too salty. Just be aware - when you pay, the owner will pressure you for a tip and keep asking until you give it. Tips are typically discretionary, especially in Italy, but to have the owner pressure us so hard for tips ruined the experience for us. Which is why I gave this a 3 star rather than 4.

so glad we found this hole in the wall! everything was delicious: vegetable soup, meatballs, eggplant, spinach ravioli, fettuccine bolognese, porkchops with roasted potatoes. no other restaurants we've tried can compare. if you're lucky enough you'll receive an after dinner digestif. excellent service, i highly recommend eating in the front dining room.

My wife and loved the place. We also stumbled across it on the way between the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The server was really funny and friendly. My wife had the Coda a la vaccinara and I had the Spaghetti alla Carbonara. We had 2 entrees, shared a Pizza Campo d' fiore, 2 cokes and a medium beer. Total was €52.50.

We just stumbled on this place as we were walking from the Trevi fountain to the Spanish Steps. Great wait staff, would definitely return for more. There are roman specialties on the menu that we didn't see anywhere else, specifically the fried artichokes. We didn't have a lot to eat, but what we had was delicious. I had fettuccine al pesto and my friend had a spinach salad. I am a home baker and I have to say the bread was excellent. The tiramisu was top drawer. We were in Rome for only a few days but we will definitely return to this place. Buon apetito!

Good food and reasonably priced for this area. I had the seafood fettuccini and a glass of white wine for a $28 lunch.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and if you're sitting outside on a sunny day, the staff is very attentive about adjusting the shades so you're comfortable. They will adjust even without you having to ask. I ordered the artichoke as an appetizer which was very good, I recommend getting this if they are in season. I also ordered the carbonara, and it was by far the best I had while in Rome perfectly creamy, rich, and full of flavor without being too heavy. You can really tell they focus on doing the classics right. What stood out beyond the food was how efficiently the staff operated. Despite how busy the restaurant gets, they move quickly and keep everything running smoothly, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, this is a must-visit spot if you're in Rome. Expect a wait, but it's 100% worth it for the quality of the food and service.

By the time we were seated, dozens of people were waiting behind us. We sipped an Aperol spritz and lemonade while we waited, chatting with fellow diners who raved about the restaurant. On a sweltering day, our kids were starting to struggle in the heat when the owner came outside and gave them mini pizzas breads. It was a thoughtful gesture that immediately made us feel welcome. Once seated, we ordered burrata, cacio e pepe, amatriciana pasta, pork chops, and fried artichokes. Everything was excellent, but the amatriciana was the standout--rich, savory, and unforgettable. The cacio e pepe was silky, the burrata fresh and creamy, the pork chops juicy, and the fried artichokes perfectly crisp. There's a reason people line up for Da Enzo. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere lively, and the hospitality remarkable. Without question, this was our best meal in Rome and one of our most memorable restaurant experiences.

Many of their pizzas are quite elaborate With all sorts of exotic ingredients. I went super simple. Gorgonzola. Mozzarella. That's it. Just enough Mozzarella to cut the Gorgonzola and make for a good melt. * * * If you have never had a gorgonzola pizza, you have never lived. Just sayin'. * * * P.S. My lovely wife got a Norwegian salmon pizza. The Norwegian salmon was stacked up high on her pizza As if she was in the World Series of Poker and she was a big winner. I have never seen so much salmon on one plate. After our meal, I made a discreet phone call to the Norwegian embassy in Rome asking them if they still had any salmon left. Being new to Rome, and having walked 20k steps on our first day, there are an abundance of options a for dining. We wanted something classically Rome nearby to our hotel. The Yelp review of this restaurant was sufficiently positive to entice us. Being American, we appreciate the earlier-than-customary dining options. We arrived at 6pm without a reservation. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is intimate and very well staffed. The wood fire oven is front-and-center and the fresh mozzarella is prominent in display. We ordered a bottle of wine ... all options are very fairly priced. This is nice. We started with a Greek salad to share. It was unlike any American Greek salad ... and a really delight. It is early June but the tomatoes and peppers were ripe and crisp and really fresh. My wife ordered the Marguerite pizza; I opted for the Gorgonzola pizza (the effusive review on Yelp was compelling). Both were solid. We appreciate the thin crust and the crisp edged. The center of both, however, was doughy and somewhat undercooked. Looking around ... the restaurant was over 50% full even at this early hour. Most were Americans. We saw a good number of diners with pasta dishes ... and none were left unfinished. Sadly, we don't have any comparisons to weigh (yet). So, I cannot affirm any "best of" citations, it this is certainly a solid trattoria/pizzeria. The staff are attentive and the food served hot and fresh.
