Came to this place because it was recommended on social networks. This place was in a street with other restaurants. The other restaurants had people outside marketing their food and asking people to go in. However, Pietro al Pantheon didn't. Quite piqued my curiosity why didn't. Anyways, if the food is amazing then there wasn't any need do do so. The food will speak by itself. We ordered seafood pasta, tomato pasta, and trippa. Do not go here. The ambience is amazing, very romantic and super cozy. Love the decoration, and the staff were nice. The food however, is absolutely disgusting. The chef must have completely lost all passion for cooking. I ordered the Scaloppine con Funghi Porcini (pork with porcini mushrooms) and my partner ordered Abbacchio alla Scottadito (grilled lamb chops). Both dishes were not just extremely overcooked, but also seemed to lack seasoning ENTIRELY. The chef either has no clue how to cook mushrooms, or used some that had been left on the counter for 3 months, because it was as if I was eating an old mushy banana every time I bit into a mushroom. The sauce on top of my pork chops was goopy, and the only flavor profile it had was mushroom. The menu says the pork is simmered in white wine, which I should take more literally next time because there was no browning on it at all. It was as if it had been boiled it white wine rather than glazed as it should have been. The lamb was like biting into leather and was full of rubbery sinew. Each of these dishes were garnished with a "salad" which was simply lettuce and tomato, or lettuce and some shredded carrot. No dressing. No olive oil. No balsamic. Nothing. My partner got a lemon slice at least, but I was not so fortunate. Genuinely will never go here ever again, does not deserve a second chance. read more

One of the gems on my trip to Rome. This little restaurant had amazing food that came in big portions. We had calamari, sea bass, and a traditional Roman beef stomach stew. The dishes were all so good--both my partner and I couldn't help but keep commenting on how good it was. The food also came out relatively quickly and was plated in a neat way. The restaurant is run by a family--both the husband and the wife were all so kind during our time there. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope others visiting Rome can experience this hidden little gem! read more

Excellent! Lots of locals, a cozy space with eclectic decorations and food that ranged from very good to divine. The staff was all business, and may not be thrilled with clumsy American diners, but the delicious dishes are worth braving a few sighs. The gnocchi I had was fine, but the meatballs were incredible (they had a variety of flavors I couldn't place and just the right amount of caramelization). I also fell in love with chicory side in butter and garlic. My wife loved her artichoke pasta. Not sure what was going on with the kitchen, but it seems like they were overwhelmed and had some miscommunication. The waitresses forgot our menus which was fine, we understood they were busy, but they also forgot to set the table completely, forgot to give us any bread (every other table got bread), and give our order to the kitchen. We waited for an hour after our order was taken and when we asked about it, we were told it takes "a long time for pasta to cook" (what?). Clearly, the kitchen never got our order. Then they served us uncooked pasta because they were in such a rush to get our order out! I was afraid Pietro al Pantheon would be too touristy, given its location and the number of English reviews, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the homey Italian charm was not threatened by waves of tourists. The friendly proprietor ushered us to a candlelit table in the middle of the dining room. It's a small restaurant with just one dining room, made even smaller by the souvenirs, newspaper clippings, and trinkets cluttering the dark wooden walls. Look carefully and you'll find everything from an old army helmet to stuffed animals to a two-foot-high Darth Vader replica. I ordered a fresh tomato zucchini blossom pasta and a glass of house red, both of which were the idyllic, quintessential Italian meal, and one of the best meals of my trip. read more

I do not understand how this place has good reviews on yelp. I almost never leave bad reviews but I would hate for someone to visit and think this is authentic Italian food. First, my boyfriend ordered a steak and knew right away it was not going to be good when they didn't ask him how he'd like it prepared. Second, I was shocked at how quickly our food came out. Normally you think it is a good thing for food to come out quickly, but we literally had our order taken and two mins later our food came out. Did they even prepare it in the back? Was it already sitting out and they just heated it up? Third, the food was BAD. We ordered 1) steak with salad and 2) ravioli. My ravioli was not cooked all the way; it was raw around the edges and it was cold. The steak was embarrassing. It was 30% fat and the meat was a shriveled mess. And the salad that came with the steak was the worst part. It tasted and looked like the bagged salads you get from the grocery store. We did not finish our food because it was so bad and I was really embarrassed (I feel like it's so rude to leave food on your plate in Italy) but I just couldn't get myself to eat it! Save room and have a second pasta. The table beside me had fried cod and lasagna. Their food made me want to walk around to eat again tonight since it's my last night. We came upon this very charming restaurant while wandering the streets of Rome. With their twilights all around and their very charming Italian male staff, we were quickly taken in. After a delicious meal, we were billed for items we were told were complimentary, and explicitly told to leave a 50% tip. I was overcome by fear and guilt but refused to leave the tip of that magnitude after having already left a 20% tip. I left feeling sad, hurt, and guilty. Thanks to the recommendation of our Airbnb host we enjoyed a great meal at this quaint little restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation. We arrived at 7:30 and the only table in this approximately 24 seat restaurant available was for us. Even after many diners had finished their meals and departed. they turned away 15 or 20 people because, while many tables were empty, they were all reserved. The waitress was not the friendliest and seemed a little put out with the amount of time it took us to give her our order. Later, we realized she was the only waitress which probably caused her curtness. We had an artichoke dish, pasta with intestines, pasta carbonara and grilled calamari. For the area near the pantheon, this looked to be the least tourist-y option. Very homey feeling on the inside, dimly lit and the staff is relatively friendly but service is pretty slow. They brought out a glass of prosecco when I sat down which was an added bonus! Full disclosure, we were in full tourist mode and just looking to have a good view with dinner when we stumbled on this place. So we were prepared for sub-par food but a great atmosphere. Not going to lie, food wise this place is mediocre, we had a pesto pasta of sorts, some bruschetta, and a pizza along with some wine. I know we chose "basic" foods but it also meant that our meal, although not fantastic, was at least what was expected. Now let me tell you about the LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!! This place is right on the edge of the square in front of the Pantheon and if you get a table outside, you can have an AMAZING view of one of the greatest architectural buildings of all time. It appears to be family-owned, the staff were reasonably friendly and the food was acceptable. Nothing remarkable. The bread was better than just about anything in America, but the rest of the meal including dessert was unremarkable (though perfectly edible). I have NO idea why the first reviewer gave this restaurant 2 stars. This is the BEST food we had in Rome, bar-none. The staff is friendly and helpful- we waited a bit outside, but they gave free wine and apologies for the wait. The pasta here is incredible. I'm vegetarian, and there were TONS of options. Additionally, my meat-eating mom and aunt ate like queens. We The ambiance is charming and intimate (be sure to ask about some of the photos on the wall that show family and restaurant history). It's a rustic, warm experience. The service is also amazing- Stefano (owner) is incredibly nice-- greeting as many as he can!- and the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful. My only regret is that we only had 4 days in Rome... I would have eaten here for weeks on end. I disagree completely with the other review (it may be hidden because it's in Italian) about the variety of food here: there was a HUGE, satisfying menu. It's not particularly expensive, and it's literally 1/2 block from the Pantheon. Seriously, I can't recommend this restaurant enough! Go there. Immediately. The staff here were very friendly but it was a bit slower than most places we have eaten at in the area. We had the sapolini rice balls and they were ok. I had the seafood pasta and the pasta itself was good with perfect al dente texture but a little plain and lacking in salt. I was disappointed that the shrimp had not been devained (it was served whole) so I had to remove the shrimp feces myself since it wasn't something I wanted to eat. There were also 3 unopened clams that I had to discard because you aren't supposed to eat them if they don't open while cooking. Those are details I think should be noted in the kitchen. My husband had the lasagna and he loved it. He said the tomato sauce was excellent. They also gave my toddler a free chocolate which was sweet. read more

This is a review of October 2017, I should have written it up earlier. Go here. The food is amazing and fresh, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We had to wait for a seat and while waiting I think it was the owner came out and gave us glasses of prosecco. They had fresh mushrooms and artichokes and they recommend them so that is what we got. You can tell everything was just cooked as you ordered and they cared how it was. The house wine is really good also. No rush on service. This was tied with the best food we had in Rome. The second one is just down the street from this place. One of the reviews shows a view of the Pantheon but it is not this place, it is down a "street" from the Pantheon. read more

While the food was ok (not really anything that stands out from other local joints), my main gripe with this place is that I believe the owner has a bias towards Asians. Part of the charm of the place and what drew us in was the extremely friendly and chatty owner. While, who I assume to be, the owner went around to ALL of the other tables and chatted them all up, he never once stopped by our table. He made it a point to almost entirely ignore our table the entire night.  He happily brought out orders and checks for everyone else talking to them all, even to the point of the guests being annoyed, but again, ignored us. Even the table of Icelanders next to us (literally) who were unhappy with their food had his undivided attention (and eventually didn't have to pay) because their pizza was slightly undercooked. Our food took forever to get to us because the one waitress, who also seemed to be cooking, was swamped. I don't blame her at all though since the other server was supposed to be the owner. Even though most Italian places give a new set of silverware for different courses, the one time the owner cleared dishes, he gave my wife back her fork and knife. Near the end, when we needed the check, we asked the owner for a check and with a grimace/frown, he said si and went to go get the waitress inside the kitchen to get us the check (which she took a while since she was busy, again understandable)...though he had no problem walking out TWO other checks to others able after they requested theirs after ours.  When we asked him again, he went to go get the waitress again who emerged unhappily with dishes to serve other tables, eventually bringing our check. My frustrated wife walked up with the check to pay since the owner refused to cash us out by bringing the card machine. She asked to be checked out and he stood there busying himself with cleaning silverware instead ignoring her. Seeing my wife get visibly annoyed, he called for the waitress again (who came out 5 minutes later) while he walked over to another table to cash them out instead.  Waitress finally cashed us out and was as amicable as she could be, asking us how our meal was, etc etc. If you're Asian, I suggest you avoid this place. To the owner, if you're reading this, I don't know what your issue is or if you had a problem with another Asian, don't take it out on others. My wife and I consider ourselves American rather than Asian and our skin color shouldn't have meant we were any different from all of the other Americans who have white skin color that you had no problem chatting up and serving with the best service you seemed to be able to provide. read more

Romantic, charming and good food. The photo opportunities are endless, it reminded me a movie set. I've been staying in this area for years and somehow only now visited Pietro. The Caprese was one of the best I've tried and the Cacio e Pepe was perfectly executed, and I'm bit of the snob when it comes to this dish. Right on a Main Street of touristy restaurants, we tried this one. We were seated right next to another couple in a cramped setting. We ordered the house wine' a full carafe, just don't, the only place on our trip we didn't enjoy the wine. I had the carbonara, my husband started with the red sauce pasta. My carbonara was very clumpy, huge portion, but was also luke warm. I had the grilled calamari, that was good, my husband's original choice turned out to be not available, so he ordered a sausage dish, on a bed of beans, and a strange sauce. Maybe we just hit a bad night? The service was ok, but the owner kept talking to the couple next to us, he brought them special wine, roasted porcini mushrooms, really catering to them. It was odd having him talk over us, pretty much our whole dinner, distracting. Not sure why the reviews were so good. There are so many better spots in Rome. read more

A quaint, authentic spot right in the heart of Rome near the Pantheon. We were greeted by baskets of fresh vegetables, a glass of bubbly, and friendly service. We were lucky to grab one of the outside patio seats and which provided a great view to the hustle and bustle of Rome including a produce deliver. The restaurant is small, as others have described, like eating in someone's home - and the food tastes home cooked too. The pasta was incredible and the vegetables fresh (the chef literally took them out of the basket next to us). Could not have asked for a better meal in Rome and would go back to eat here in a heartbeat. We are still talking about this meal almost a month later. Get here early for lunch or dinner - otherwise be prepared to wait or simply turned away (this actually happened when they ran out of space). read more
