Oh my please get this and you won't regret it. Every bite was full of flavor, the pork cheek was salty and tasty. Oh wow, it's better than good. I also had the house wine which was delicious. You're in Trastevere, you've done your research, you've seen the lines of people waiting to dine at many of the wonderful Trattorias in the streets, some of these require reservations & some that don't take reservations. Our Airbnb host recommended Impiccetta & we are so happy he did. We were seated about 20 minutes after our reservation during our wait, we were able to go inside & order glasses of wine that was added to our bill,but Thats the charm of Italy , people take there time dining, unless you're at a place that has a time limit on your dining experience, a reservation can get you in the restaurant , just be patient you're in another country if you have to wait at Impiccetta you will be delighted with the service, the unique ambience & the delicious food that comes out of this kitchen. i got the tonnarelli porci (i'm pretty sure) and it was really good. it was only €13 so it was definitely worth the price! i waiters were really nice, especially the owner. they speak good english so don't stress if you aren't an expert at italian like me. the restaurant is in this cute ally way and totally fits in. after dinner i suggest waking around a bit if you're unfamiliar with the area just to check it out. definitely would eat here again and totally recommend! read more

Impicetta was the worst dining experience during my 14 days in Italy. The food was forgettable, borderline tolerable. There were better places I ate at in Rome and Trastevere. Starting with the experience, we were sat in the back room in the corner. Several minutes after this, we were told to move to a different table. Once relocated, we waited for a little over 10-15 further minutes until we flagged a waiter to place our order. At this point, we had been in the restaurant for 25 minutes and no one had come to take our order, let alone give us bread or water or wine. When we flagged down the waiter who moved us, he took out his notepad and told us he was ready. When we said we wanted to do the tasting menu, he ran away, saying he needed another waiter to help us. Five minutes later, we got a quirky waiter who explained the tasting menu in a confusing manner. Our choices were also limited - no beef - which was not noted anywhere on the menu. Regardless, we placed our order. We got an appetizer of roman classics- fried zuchini flowers and a plate of meat and cheese. It was all just ok - we had just come from Parma where we toured and tasted fresh prosciutto and parmesan reggiano. After we finished, we sat there with these plates for about 20 minutes. Next came two massive portions of pasta each which were just not good. The carbonara was basic, with the pork belly barely cooked, as if thrown in last minute as an after thought. The pasta itself was cooked fine, but the "sauce" was clumpy and stodgy and just not appetizing. But the fun was just starting. Once we finished the pasta, we sat for another 30 minutes waiting for our secondi. No one would take our plates, no one would even look at us. To make a very long story short, three hours into our meal, we hadn't gotten our secondi (or main) meal. We were hot, thirsty (no one asked if we wanted more wine or water), and miserable. My wife flagged the waiter, who in typical form for the night, acknowledged the flag, and then walked away, only to come back five minutes later. Three hours in, the secondi was decent but nothing worth waiting three hours for. There are a few reviews which echo this experience... being ignored and treated like a second class diner. If there is any doubt, go elsewhere. It's not worth ruining your trip with this kind of non-sense. My other meals in Rome were much better both in food quality and service. read more

This is a great find! We had lovely service (we didn't speak Italian and they didn't speak English and it all worked out just fine). I had the lamb special and my husband had the sausage pasta. Three of us came for dinner. It was my first night in Rome so I was a bit of a zombie. But it's my local friends favorite place. I had the Cacio and Pepe and it was ok. Lovely Italian restaurant with fair prices and excellent service! Ambiance: very cute and Italian (of course). We did get lost a few times trying to find the place as the sign was completely covered with vines, hence the docked point. We were 5 minutes late in our reservation but they were cool with it either way. Service: bar none! Everyone spoke fluent English and was super nice and helpful! They accept pets also as we had a lady next to us with her little dog. Food: portions are huge and delicious! We had the carbonara and it could easily feed 4 of us. We ordered the medium size and still wow! I'd say on par with American portions. Wine selections were also quite good. Loved this restaurant and will visit again next time in Rome. read more

I found this by snooping around Trastevere looking for restaurants serving traditional Roman food without English subtitles. The first time I just looked inside, noting that it was a good prospect. The next day I walked by to see the chef and owner sitting on the stoop playing his guitar. We talked for a minute, then he showed me around. I told him I'd see him at 8. We arrived and were greeted warmly, taken to a table where we sat and were shortly eating good crusty bread and drinking good house wine. My brother and I ate from the cold buffet table -- a marvelous octopus salad, several different preparations of eggplant and other traditional delicacies. My wife had a huge plate of tender grilled lamb with lemon and vegetables. The rest had pastas of various kinds, all excellent. The atmosphere was joyous, and the food inexpensive. Walking around trastovere it is hard to find a place to eat that is not a tourist trap. We were so fortunate to stumble upon Impecetta because our evening there created memories that will last a lifetime. We dinned here in mid November 2016. It is recommended that one make a reservation as they were fully booked the first time we attempted to partake in their slice of heaven. The second time, we were successful. The restaurant is mostly filled with locals, a good sign. Their wine selection is carefully chosen and the wait staff guides you through the selection of dishes with care. For example, our waitress was gracious enough to let us know that artichoke, though available, is not in season and that their primitivo wine was pretty exceptional and to hold off ordering second courses as their pasta dishes were rather sizeable. It is that kind of service that added so much to our dining experience. For appetizers we had burrata cheese with ham, which was to die for. The cheese was perfect, fresh, with texture and consistency that is ideal for burrata. We also had fried zucchini which was refreshing, a great palette cleaner. The primitivo wine was probably one of the best bottles of primitivo that I've ever had. Easy to discern flavor profile, and very enjoyable. For the main course we had the Rome classics that we tried countless times in Rome: Carbonera and cachio peppe. They were just better here. On top of that, the hosts make you feel like you are in their living room rather than at a restaurant. We concluded deserts by having shots with the proprietor who was gracious, welcoming, and made us feel like his friends rather than customers. Wish I got the chance to try it. Came by at 7, to an empty restaurant to hear we needed reservations. A guy came in at the same time half hour early for his reservations and was let right in. A few minutes later we walked by and saw the several waitstaff out front smoking. I could tell that the pasta was homemade and although the portion was HUGE we couldn't stop eating it. Cacio e Pepe was simple but delicious. Definitely worth ordering. After this we were stuffed to the rim but had already placed an order of oxtail for our secondi. They prepared us for the succulence by bibbing us up and giving a friendly "good luck". When it arrived we were stunned by the portion. It was a combination of Italian excellence and your grandma's stew. If I could only have had a second stomach to stuff it in.
