This was our first stop in Rome, and we were not disappointed. We started with the focaccia and suppli. This started my love for suppli that lasted the entire trip! We split the salsicca patate pizza (potato, sausage, and rosemary.) The portion size was plenty big for two people. This was pretty good, although all the real flavor only came from the sausage (which was plentiful.) Service was great and very friendly. I walked in around 9:30pm on a Friday night for a group of 2 and had to wait about 5-10 mins, which wasn't bad compared to other restaurants. I ordered the rigatoni amatriciana, which was good and satisfying , but not outstanding compared to other restaurants in italy. The pasta was pretty al dente, and the guanciale was cooked just before it became crispy. The chicory was good--this was my first time trying it. It was slightly bitter and chewy, but good to have some vegetables after eating so much pasta. The restaurant had a homey feel and the service was good. They did ask for a tip at the end, so it may have been a touristy spot. read more

Delicious lasagne, great service! I really enjoyed my time dining solo here. I waited a limited amount of time and clapped when my huge plate of lasagna came out. My fried artichokes were also delicious and you are going to get a dose of true Roman fare here. I do think it's a bit touristy but in terms of options in the Trastevere region, this is a good one. We had do dinner here based on Yelp reviews. I was disappointed. The stuffed pumpkin flowers had a strong anchovies taste. The suppli were dry and mediocre. My husband had the lamb and potatoes and enjoyed it. I had the cacio Pepe and it was good but on the dry side. My son had gnocchi with icxtsil and it was terrible. They did remove it from the bill. Honestly, just okay for me. We came for dinner after waiting very long at a trattoria nearby. The wait for Otello was only 15min so we decided to come here instead. We were seated in the basement area. It was quite busy so the service was a bit slow. The server spoke English well and we had no issues ordering. My table ordered a variety of items. I recommend sharing because some of the portion sizes are bigger. My favorite was the charcuterie board! The ingredients were so fresh. The mozzarella was amazingggg. I loved the presentation with the orange slices on top. The focaccia bread was also very good. The rest of our dishes were...just okay. I thought everything lacked a bit more flavor or more salt. The lasagna tasted mostly of the Parmesan they put on top; it overpowered the rest of the muted flavors. Our spaghetti and meatballs definitely needed more salt. The plain sauce and the thick noodles reminded me of canned Chef Boyardee haha. I wasn't a fan of the fried artichoke either. It was too oily for me, but I'm not sure if that's a characteristic of the dish or of the restaurant. It was the first and last time I tried fried artichoke in Italy. Found this restaurant in the Trastevere area. We got there around 9pm and surprisingly the line wasn't too long, we waited about 30-40 minutes to get seated. The restaurant inside was still very packed and all the tables were very close together (which I noticed is often the case in Rome) so when the table next to us got up, one of the guys accidentally spilled wine onto our table. Bryan was our server and he was super accommodating and helped us right away with the spillage. We got the spaghetti with meatballs, the carbonara, focaccia bread, and fried artichoke. The bread was so good. The rest were all delicious but a little saltier than I would have preferred. At the end of the meal, they gave us 2 alcoholic shots that I believe help with digestion. Overall I'm happy I tried it but not sure I would come back. read more

Great place. I tried the Tonnerallo Cacio e Pepe. It was very good. My wife had the Gricia a Mestere and it might have been better. My kids had the pizza and outer was also very well done. This restaurant is an interesting one. It is highly regarded as some of the best Roman cuisine one can ever eat. Perhaps I've been spoiled with good authentic Italian food growing up but this place's food was decent. It was nothing spectacular like the other reviews state - no life changing best meal of my life situation. It was what you expect from a lower tiered Osteria. The appetizers I took were a prosciutto and melon platter, fried zucchini flowers, and a caprese salad. The platter was alright but not the highest quality prosciutto used and the melon was a little unripe. The caprese salad was the standard you can find almost anywhere else. The fried zucchini flowers had an off putting taste to them. I racked my brain and then realized there was a little fish symbol beside the menu item. I was to infer that there was fish inside the flower blossoms without the menu explicitly stating this. This is a red flag if you are vegetarian or have a fish allergy so be careful and ask questions! As for the main courses, the lasagna was good and the meat was very chewy. I think if you want to try this place go for it but keep expectations low to avoid what happened to me! Also, at the end of service they ask you to leave a review and that may be a factor into why this place has tons of reviews. read more

this is a place where you should definitely make a reservation if you can. i unfortunately had wanted to try a restaurant and quickly found out it was closed on mondays, so we accepted our fate and decided to get into the long line outside Otello. we got so lucky and were seated in ~20 minutes and im convinced its only because so many people ahead of us in life left. anyway, we ended up inside the restaurant which is really sweet & romantic, dim lighting and even thought there were lots of people it wasn't so loud you couldn't hear each other. i got the carbonara which Id wanted to try in rome and it was so delicious. my mom got the gnocchi but we basically ended up splitting the carbonara because it was so good. we got salad as well which was very fresh & i love how lightly dressed it was because it allowed all the vegetables to stand out on their own. we got tiramisu because we saw someone else get it (lol) and it was AMAZING. if you're in need of a sweet fix after dinner like i usually am, i wouldn't even hesitate. read more

We ventured into Trastevere for the evening and stumbled upon this restaurant. There were 3 couples in front of us in the line, but we were seated within 5 minutes of waiting. The restaurant is in a nice location, and you'll be able check out other stores while you're visiting the area. The waitress had a good understanding of our gluten allergies and was very accommodating. She also has the allergies so she can guarantee that they use gluten free ingredients for the GF meals. She then proceeded with pointing out all gluten free options on the menu for us to pick from. My husband chose the Gluten free carbonara and I chose the homemade pasta with clams. Both were delicious! I would recommend that a gluten free menu is created, or that allergens are specified on the menu, so that less experienced wait staff will know as well! read more

Randomly found this cute spot when wandering around Travestiere neighborhood, and I have to say it was delicious! we waited about 10minutes for our seat which wasn't bad at all since we've heard this place can get extremely packed! The staff of this place are very accommodating and friendly! Oxtail Stew: 5/5 Highly recommend if you're a big beef stew fan and just want something rich and bursting with flavor! The oxtail is very tender and falls right off the bone' I recommend pairing this with some Foccacia and dipping it in the sauce, since it can get a little much by itself. Crème Le PePe: 4/5 Noodles were cooked perfectly, and the sauce was nice and creamy with a cheesy blend. If you're a fan of cheese, I recommend pairing this with some sprinkle of lemon and lots of Parmesan!!! It elevated the flavor a lot and gave it a nice tangy twist, which makes the dish amazing Artichoke: 3/5 I had high hopes for this dish after watching a lot of reviews on it, and hearing nothing but positive raves. I have to say that it was decent, but not what I was expecting. The artichoke leaves tasted like French fries with a lot of oil, and the only part that was soft and chewy was the center. Recommend trying if you love Artichoke, but otherwise you might want to skip this dish. Bruschetta:5/5 These look very filling, but they're actually very brittle and not as dense as they might seem. The flavor was delicious, and the bread was toasted perfectly! Pana Cotta: 5/5 First time trying Strawberry pana cotta and I have to say it was SCRUMPTIOUS! Tastes like a vanilla flan with fresh strawberries and whipped cream! This is a MUST! I would recommend this place if you want a good meal, and want to explore nearby bars/ and enjoy the hood. Pasta was amazing! The cacio e pepe was super yummy and there was no wait when we arrived! The bread was really good but got dry after a while (i think that's normal). The service was really good but it took a really long time for our bill to come but that's also because it slowly started to get busier. When you walk in it's full of charm and definitely classifies as a European bistro. I loved the eclectic artwork on the walls and arches throughout. Our waitress was extremely warm, funny and recommended every item we ordered including the wine. It's authentic Roman cuisine so not your typical pasta and pizza place. Total tourist trap. We chose Otello bc the line outside was the shortest of the other restaurants in the area. We waited about 15-20 min before we were seated. We were quickly given menus which were loaded with choices. We ordered a salad with sliced meats and cheeses for an app which was good. My wife and daughter both ordered pasta. The Wife ordered carbonara which the pasta was too al-dente (hard) and my daughter ordered a 4 cheese gnocchi pasta which had an over-powering Gorgonzola in it. I like a bleu cheese but this was strong. I think I ordered a Pizza but at this point the last 2 weeks are a blur. The server wasn't rude she just wasn't nice. To be fair they were super busy and she was kind of rushing us. When we asked for the bill the server noticed my wife and daughter barely ate their dishes and asked what happened. She genuinely appeared to feel bad and said "why didn't you say something?", for this she took $4 off the bill. Again this place was ok at best. read more

What can I say about this place, other than, it was what I imagined a restaurant would look and feel like in Rome. It was small and just filled with energy, the staff was super nice and spoke a ton of English so we were able understand them. Super friendly and attentive to our needs/wants. We ended up getting some bruschetta (different kids.... with cheese, and one with bacon and then the traditional kind). I feel like the traditional bruschetta hit the best and still can't beat it. This one had balsamic vinegar all over it and smaller cut tomatoes. This place is known for their carbonara, so I had to get that and it didn't disappoint. The rigatoni noodles def held some of the pancetta and the cheese which made it even better. Even if the next morning my stomach didn't agree lol. Super rich and super flavorful. It actually comes in a decent size bowl for Italian standards, so don't even think about getting anymore food. Overall, great place to get some food. read more

I cannot recommend Otello more! This was my favorite restaurant in Trastevere. I lived here in Trastevere for four months and had plenty of time to explore different restaurants, but this was one that I continued to come back to. Each time I had visitors I also brought them here because I thought it was too good that everyone had to try it. Over all of the times I have eaten here I can't remember every order but I highly recommend their the Melon and Prosciutto, Cacio e Pepe Pizza, Carbonara Pasta and Chianti Wine. They have incredible desserts and most times I couldn't help but order a tiramisu for after my meal. Otello has a beautiful main floor but an even cooler downstairs seating area where you feel like you are living out the classic Italian dream. I highly recommend sitting downstairs if you have the opportunity. As a broke college student I was able to frequently visit Otello because of their great pricing; this is an affordable choice but you are really getting the bang for your buck. Also, having eaten here more than a handful of times I have only once waited in line and that was when I had a large group of eight people. If you are in Trastevere I highly recommend Otello as one of your stops. read more

A quaint, lovely restaurant in a more quiet alley within the heart of Rome! This place was so homely and seemed like a good spot for your local Italians. Our server could not speak/ understand English, but she did a good job using body language to express what she was trying to convey. The food here was hands down amazing. I had a tomato based pasta whereas my partner got the carbonara (definitely get carbonara in rome). The dessert cake was also mind blowing and was a perfect mix of cream, sweetness, and cooked crumble. I did feel like service was extremely slow at this restaurant, especially when it got busy, but I know this is typical of Italian restaurants so would just be aware of that if you're in a rush. read more

Otello is in the very happening neighborhood Trastevere, and although there are restaurants every which way, it may be hard to find a spot with the crowds or even a place quite worth the hype. We wandered around until we stumbled upon this restaurant with a line outside of it and a smiling young mad handing out wine to the people standing in line... we found our people. We put our names down and was advised of the 10 minute wait. As soon as we were seated and greeted by our server and the evening was excellent from there. Worst experience during our trip to Rome. We were here for dinner and the place was completely packed. Took over an hour to get our food. The tables next to us got seated later and got their food before we did. The locals next to our table dropped a tomato on the floor, which splashed red tomato juice on my new white shoes (oh and we were on our honeymoon so I wore a lot of white). They did not apologize, but rather laughed and continue to joke about dropping more food on the floor. I asked for a napkin to wipe my shoes and they only had these red and white plaid paper napkins which stained my shoes even more (I should have known). The waitress could not have care less. Super rude and unprofessional. After over an hour, the food came and it was terrible. I got a chicken with red sauce. I ate a few bites and we left. I was super hungry afterwards. Awful experience. I have this place 4 stars because the food was good but not great. We ate it here in the afternoon and then walked by later and there was a huge line to get a table so it's popular. We may have not gotten the right foods. I had the carbonara and it was served with a rigatoni noodle sauce was thick and the order was very filling. Overall very tasty. We also had a Roma salad which was somewhat underwhelming. We also had a pizza that was very good. All the items were at or around $10 so very affordable. Beer was $5. We had a few Peroni. Overall a good place to go if you don't have to wait I suggest reservations. read more
