Our last night in Rome, we were packing and decided to order takeaway. The places I had in mind already closed, so after a little search I found Trattoria Cecio. I walked up and requested takeaway of their Amatriciana and Bolognese. Paid inside and waited at an open table on their sidewalk seating. I was probably only waiting for 10 mins and my order was ready. Got back to our apartment and both dishes were very good. Ok spot near Santa Maria Maggiore and Termini. Lots of tourists so it caters to them with many traditional dishes that you would expect. Three of us visited for dinner and overall we were happy. The bruschetta and supplì appetizers were very nice. I had the green pepper steak for my entree, and I really wasn't thrilled with it. The steak itself was ok, but the sauce was not what I expected. It was more of a bechamel with some green peppercorns thrown in. No real pepper flavor IMO. But, my companions were happy with their offerings, although we noticed the pasta had much more sauce on it that what we would have expected. I would chalk that up to meeting the tourist expectations. Heavily sauced pasta isn't see much except outside of tourist spots. The one good thing about restaurants in touristy areas is service is pretty fast if you don't want to wait for food for 2 hr plus. The quality of food is acceptable. The appetizers we had were pretty tasty. I don't think the pasta is freshly made. Suppli-7/10. The flavor is good but it would fill you up with just one. Anchovies appetizer-8/10; cheese and the dry tomato are so yummy. Anchovies is not enough in my opinion. Rigatoni all' amatriciani-6/10; didn't taste much bacon flavor with the sauce Fettuccine all a vaccinara-8/10; flavorful and pasta is cooked al dente It's overall good but nothing unique. This was our first restaurant visit in Rome and we continued to compare every other restaurant to the food here. This one had the BEST food. We had the carbonara and something else... SO FREAKING GOOD! Prices were very reasonable, especially coming from the states where we would have paid for one person what we paid for our entire two person ticket here. Finally found a place in Rome I would come back to. Unfortunately this was my last night in Rome. It's a small place without many tables, half of which are outside. But it's all nicely done. Even, table cloths on the outside tables. I read again and again reservations are recommended, probably because of the limited tables. However, I arrived at opening time and was able to get a table for 3. I came specifically for the pasta with truffle and sausage, which is the "money-shot" image on Yelp. I was slightly disappointed that the full slices of truffle was not there like in the pic, but the truffle flavor was definitely there and very robust. My sister got the truffle pasta with clams, and while the truffle flavor was there, it seemed to be less robust. My Mom got the grilled salmon, and it was cooked perfectly. We also ordered the prosciutto and mozzarella antipasti, and it was phenomenal. The mozzarella was literally bursting with milky/creamy flavor, and the prosciutto had that funky meaty flavor. My search for the best cacio e pepe lead me to this place. It's my first night in Rome and while I have other places further from my hotel on my list, this place did not disappoint. Very friendly service. However, the table was not clean. The person who greeted us, brushed some crumbs to the floor. Having just arrived in Rome, we were starving, so we stayed. Salad was fresh, pasta was not. It was edible. The tiramisu was inauthentic at best, day old from Walmart is what it tasted like. I have never left tiramisu! This place was recommended by the front desk at our hotel. It was phenomenal. If you don't have a reservation you can take your chances as the place is small and always crowded. We were lucky as a table was freeing up as we got there. After eating here we all see why this place stays pack. Between the food and servers phenomenal is an understatement. By far one of the best place we have eaten in Rome since we got here. Don't spend money on the high priced wines as the house wines are very good. The food was fantastic.
