I was a big fan of the Margherita Pizza. You can expect the bottom of the pizza to be a bit black, however it is not overly burned and tastes great. I included pictures for reference. If you are looking to keep it basic, the margherita pizza is a great tasty option. The cheese is spread across the pizza unevenly, however you should still get some cheese in each bite. The pizza did take some time to get to the table, so if you are on a time crunch I would recommend going elsewhere. The vibes outside are great, when the weather permits. Fantastic food and very nice people. This was the first place we ate in Rome and it was exactly what we had hoped. Thin crust pizza with huge pieces of prosciutto to die for. A very reasonably priced carafe of wine. Delicious thin and crisp anchovy filets with fresh lemon and sauce. And an insalata mista with that Mediterranean tuna that's so velvety you don't forget it. Got here late - at least American late, around 10:20pm on a Friday night. Still busy at that time but it was fine - no wait. It's a little east of where we are staying. This area is much less touristy than lots of Rome so the food is better. We got a porchini mushroom pizza (white sauce) and a calzone with mozzarella and prosciutto. Also a 1/2 liter of wine. One of my favorite dinners in Rome was at Li Rioni. After walking twice the length of the Eternal City, my beleaguered medical school classmates and I stumbled into this restaurant exhausted and starving. The owners of the Air BNB I was staying at recommended this pizzeria a stone's throw from the apartment. This place is packed to the rafters after dark and tables are crammed closely to each other. But that's part of the Roman charm: I call it intimate seating. We started with the bruschetta - which being May came with the sweetest and delightful tomatoes. The crusty bread perfectly soaked up the EVOO. Our appetizers continued with this egg and ham filled calzone which was out of this world. The egg was cooked to perfection, as warm yolk escaped when cut. But the stars of the dinner were obviously the pizza. The sausage-broccolini pizza was rich with fresh cheese and out-of-this world fresh ingredients. The more traditional pepperoni was spicy and fatty perfection. And the crust - my goodness - for some reason cannot be replicated elsewhere. I can't remember the service at all, but when food is this great, it doesn't matter much. I just remember it being a loud neighborhood joint which are my favorite places to dine. Not exactly what you picture La Dolce Vita to be, but I'll take this over a Roman Holiday, everyday. read more

About 10 minutes from the Colosseum and pretty hidden from streets filled with restaurants. Interior is nicely decorated seems very spacious. Super packed and had to wait for a table at 9PM on a Monday. Even though the food is amazing, the service is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Took a couple minutes for them to clean and set up the table. Then 10 more minutes for them to bring us menus. Then we had to wait again for them to take our order. Only a couple waiters and they are everywhere. Ordered two pizzas: a red (Margherita) and white pizza (olives, egg, sausage, veggies). Thin crust not crazy greasy and not pre-cut (which is the custom here). Great price and size. 3 people couldn't finish all 2 pies. The cheese on the pizza was amazing. If you're not in a hurry and don't mind bad service I would definitely recommend this place. read more

This was the best pizza of my life. I couldn't stop myself from coming back on multiple occasions, and I can't stop myself from longing for it now. I had the Capricciosa (8 Euros), which is topped with mushrooms, parma ham, artichoke, hard-boiled egg, olives, mozzarella cheese and tomato. It wasn't really what I expected. It was so much more delicious than I had even imagined! All of the toppings are so!! good!! and plentiful enough to make every bite flavorful in a different way. The artichoke chillin' off to one side of the pizza? The best damn artichoke I've ever tasted. After this, I kept ordering artichokes at other restaurants for the rest of the week, but they weren't the same. And the cheese?! Divine. Cheesy and creamy and powerful. The crust?! Perfect. Thin, slightly crunchy around the edges but softer in the middle. The pizzas are quite sizable but totally manageable on your own. (That's the delicate way of saying that I totally inhaled this entire pizza on my own in record time.) Also had a glass of the house red wine, which always made me feel very happy to be there. You can sit inside or outside on the patio. Inside happened to be full of screaming children pretty frequently. But sitting outside at night, sipping wine and savoring this delicious meal was an unforgettable experience. read more

Best pizza I had in Italy. The dough is light, thin, and chewy/crunchy all at the same time. The cheese is not over the top. I had the pomodoro fresco (tomato, rock salad, mozarella), which was the perfect dinner after a long day of walking around Rome. If I had to go back, I would try margherita pizza and the calzones. I also recommend getting their wine or beer to go with the pizza. The only complaint I have is the wait time of around 20-25 minutes for my pizza, but it was so good that I am giving 5 stars. The staff was very friendly to foreigners though. The lines get long during prime dinner time. Make sure to put your name down with the staff first and then wait. Highly recommend in Rome! read more

A quaint pizzeria that makes yet another interpretation of the classic Roman pizza. I'm starting to understand that while the cooking essentials are Roman, every place has their own family recipes, their own source for ingredients, their own preferences making them each unique and "artisan" in their own right. Straight to it, the crust is MUCH thicker (over a centimeter). The edges are properly burnt, there is great chew throughout the middle. A nice crunch at the edges. There is the proper bitterness of smoke imparted by the wood burning oven. The dough is aggressively seasoned almost to the point of being too salty but it makes an excellent foil for the austere toppings such as carciofo ala Romana, porcini mushrooms or thin slices of prosciutto. The fresh mozzarella, exuding milky goodness is brightened by the seasoned crust. The pizzas are more rustic and substantial than Da Remo or Dar Poeta. The pizza topped with carciofo ala Romana had at least four quartered artichokes that were not well trimmed. There were still leaves that could not be eaten. Pulling them out of your mouth after each bite, just added to the enjoyment. The pizza piled with fresh chunks of porcini mushrooms incredibly aromatic but just looking at it, you knew the mushrooms were not washed, simply wiped preserving their meaty goodness. Hey a little soil never killed anyone. A different style from what "professional food reviewers" claim is the best of Roma but regardless, good eats. No house wine but a small selection of the DOC Lazio reds and whites. None priced above €15. Reservations accepted but not needed on weekdays. Open early for tourist (7:00pm, some locals after 9:30pm). English menus. All servers speak English. There is take away. read more

When you read up recommendations for the best pizza in Rome you'll find people recommend finding places that use a wood burning oven and a thin pizza - this place fits the bill - the crust is extremely thin and you get the pizza only a few minutes after you order - it's crispy with a slight charring that brings the flavors together, and extremely affordable - you'll get a great meal and it won't break the bank and it's not all that far from many of the major attractions in old Rome. I do recommend reservations as it seems extremely popular (in fact, I need to make some - I hope to go back tonight). Personally, I consider this a major food find and it's going to be on my list of places to come back to next time in Rome. A good example of the comment by Rick Steve's in his Rome book, that you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a great meal in the eternal city. Oh, they have pizzas with and without tomato sauce. I'll have to expand the review as I try more things - the classic one is the Roman style pizza which comes with think slices of cured ham, black olives, egg and mushrooms, and even a bit of artichoke - you can also get pizza to go or what they call "take away" - just make sure to have a glass of vino or one of their draft beers while you are waiting - speaking of beer, they have a red ale on draft that is malty and delicious and a nice break from the mass produced pilsner that seems to be the most common choice in Italy - but a glass of wine is also quite affordable - just come and try this pizza - looking forward to seeing more reviews and recognition of this place. read more

A great great place. After seeing the Yelp reviews and the recommendation in Frommer's 2015 Italy guide we had to dine here. We were NOT disappointed. The place was busy when we arrived, and luckily got a small table in the corner inside. It worked just fine. We started with some Suppili - Rice, mozzarella and tomato ball deep fried to perfection! These were outstanding. I think they really could be the Italian version of the Buffalo Wing. As my young dining companion said "these are deep fried heaven!" We moved on to likely the best pizza in the world! We had one with mushrooms, and one with prosciutto, artichoke, mushroom, egg and black olives. Truly outstanding thin crust pizza. I also highly recommend getting a liter of the house wine because it is also great. You can call to make a reservation which I recommend doing as they are very popular and fill up fast. Arrived at 9pm on a Friday night at the recommendation of a picky pizza eater and local foodie. The wait was long - 45 minutes - but oh so worth the wait. I went straight for the good stuff - margherita with mozzarella DOC - and of course some house red wine. The pizza was out in *maybe* 5 minutes and was everything everyone said it would be. Thin, light crust. Crisp yet also somehow with a bit of chew. The toppings were modest and well balanced. And the wine was very good for a house wine. Ended with tiramisu (how could I not?) and it was very tasty. One of the best parts of my meal was the end when I was paying and had a chance to speak with the owner. His parents opened the restaurant and he now owns and runs it. Super legit dude. Possibly one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten in my life. I consider myself to be a huge pizza fan, regularly ordering it when I have the chance. For me, this has set a benchmark for all other pizzerias. We ate here on our first night in Rome, and it was without a doubt the best experience we had. The service was quick enough, which was lucky as we were starving after a long day of being tourists. We found the staff to be friendly, and the locations was great; a stone's throw from the Colosseum. Prices were very reasonable, considering the standard of the food, a margherita pizza was 5€, while the sausage-topped one I had was 7,50€. Want some bomb oven wood pizza? Yeah? Good. Go here. My partner and I had pizza 4 times during out 3 day trip to Rome and this was the best. It's made in a wood oven so it has the smoky bitterness to the crust. The tomato sauce tastes fresh and light. Complimented the crust really well. I ordered the tomato sauce with buffalo mozzarella and my partner got the 4 cheese (note this one does not come with a sauce on it but it's pretty easy to see that on the menu) his came with blue cheese which he wasn't expecting. But he still really liked it. We stated with suppli (deep friend balls of heaven). Also the best we had had while in rome. I had the house wine my and my prtner a red draft ale he really liked. Few tips: -on a Thursday at 9 they where busy. Like lines out the door busy. I recommend a reservation. We didn't have one and got sat but with only 2 it's pretty easy to get tables. More then that I would get a reservation. -there service was efficient but not overly friend. Something I DID NOT mark them down for because in most of Europe super friendly service that you are using to in the US is not really a thing. They take your order, bring you what you ordered and leave you alone. You want the check or order more you flag them down and ask. If you expect them to check on you your crazy and need to read a better guide book. I would happily come here again :) read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Walk in. Ask for a table for two. Owner I believe was very nice. Told us 5 minute wait. We wait outside and he comes to get us and we are seated. We sit there waiting almost 15 minutes before someone even walks up to us. A waiter comes and asks us what we would like to order and we tell him, we didn't even get a menu yet. He gets us 2 menus and we sit there another 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to take our order. Meanwhile people are leaving and new customers are coming in. We then notice customers that came in way after us were seated, given menus and someone took their orders. All while we sitting there being ignored by the staff.
