This pizza place is definitely the most "poppin'" restaurant on the street. We made it just in time before the dinner rush, but even so, the restaurant was packed on the inside--table to table, elbow to elbow--and it is not a small space either. We were lucky to get a table without waiting, but ten minutes later there were people coming in and out of the doors and a long line outside. It was a cold night, but some people even opted to sit outside because the lines were so long!! They do do take-away so that is an option as well. My favorite part about this restaurant is the ability to see the pizza cooking in the open flame oven. I was fascinated by seeing the staff making the pizza right in front of our faces. Because it was such a, as I described it before, "poppin'" night, we waited quite a bit for our pizzas to come (around 30 minutes). To pass the time, we tried their fried squash blossom (comes with only one) and their suppli, which is like a fried rice ball filled with cheese. We didn't order the suppli at first, but after seeing about every table order one, we gave into the bandwagon and were glad we did. The squash blossom and suppli were filled with the perfect amount of cheese--enough for you to have to pull the hot melted cheese to keep it from stretching forever. They were both fried dishes, but I didn't feel the oil on it would make my face break out or anything ;p. I LOVED both of these appetizers and am drooling just thinking about it. When we finally got our pizza, I was way past starving so I wolfed it down. I ordered the cappricciosa which comes with olives, mushrooms, artichokes, eggs, ham, tomato, and mozzarella. It seemed like there would be a lot of toppings, but it was just a few of each of the vegetables. Either way, the pizza was steaming and definitely enough to fill me up. I however, didn't think the flavors were amazing. First of all, the pizza is incredibly thin so it is more like 2 tortillas stacked up on each other. I personally don't like thin crust so I didn't like how the pizza kept cracking and flaking. The flavors are really light, not overly seasoned, and it definitely wasn't that made my taste buds go on a roller coaster. Weird not, the pizza does hold up if you take leftovers and I really enjoyed it the second day (hah!). I didn't have a problem with any of the servers, but it was a wait so fill up on those appetizers! Overall, 3.5: the pizza wasn't amazing but I still enjoyed the meal! read more

Incredibly amazing!!!!! The best and I mean, THE BEST pizza I've ever had in my life! If you're into thin crust like myself, you will fall in love! The pizza at Ai Marmi is 100% fresh. You can literally watch the pizzaioli roll the dough and make the pizzas to order. The pizzas and calzones bake very fast, but to perfection. Unlike the U.S., where Americans tend to load on toppings, these pizza are enjoyable with a just a few toppings. Most of the pizzas listed on the menu only consists of 1-3 toppings. We initially ordered just one pizza to share for two, but ended up ordering a second one because it was just TOO GOOD!!!! We ordered the pizza con funghi e salsiccia the first time (mushroom and sausage) and it was loaded with mushrooms and the sausage was also the best I've had on a pizza. Check out my photos! Second pizza, we ordered mushroom and added onions. It's not on the menu, but they were very kind to accommodate our request and we even seen them chop up the onions. I think this place is a must if you want to get that Italian pizza experience. The waiters are a little disinterested because they can be! They serve freaking good pizza. The oven is right in front, so you can see your pizza getting made. I got sausage and mushrooms, and my boyfriend got prosciutto. Both delicious, but I think I prefer Dar Poeta. Amazing local pizza shop! The pizza is super thin and crispy. The sauce and cheese combination was great. I really enjoyed the mushroom and sausage pizza. We also got suppli and I think it was the best one all trip. It was rolled in bread crumbs so it was crispy rice on the outside with the perfect amount of mozzarella. I came in for some late night pizza and snacks on the recommendation of a local. The place was perfect for what it was, a casual spot to grab some local cuisine, it's also open pretty darn late, which is great. I tried their pizza and arancini rice balls, both were pretty stellar. Also managed to try some local Italian beer that was in the vein of a bud light. Any stars are awarded purely for ambiance. The streets of Trastevere are more colorful people watching than Brooklyn. And our timing just happened to coincide with the arrival of a magician as well as fireworks. But let's face it none go f this was the restaurants doing. The restaurant we have to thank for an 90 minute wait for our three pizza to arrive - marinara mushroom and squash blossom. All three had one thing in common. Congealy cheese and mounds of uncooked flour scattered throughout like some kind of cruel joke. The only saving grace was we were hungry and had subsequent reservations at seu and that this meal was pretty cheap. It was nice to see it all being made fresh and the lively crowds dining around us. But the pizza itself was not memorable. We ordered the margherita and funghi. I found the mushrooms to be undercooked if cooked at all in the funghi. And the pizza dough also seemed undercooked despite asking if it could be done crispy. The service was also really slow. I was worried. It had been 4 or 5 years since my last visit to Marmi and I'd been warned it was mostly tourists now by fellow Yelpers. Would it still be the Best Pizza on Earth? In short, yes. I wanted to marry this pizza - it was that good. My favorite US pizza tasted like turds on a plate in comparison. It was still cramped beyond belief, loud and crowded. Located a few streets off the main drags where tourists typically wonder you'll find a very good pizza restaurant. I came at just the right time around 8pm and was promptly seated. The wait will fluctuate, because when l left there were probably about 20 people trying to get in. The staff was ok. Not overly friendly and actually a little standoff-ish. They don't speak English though, at all. Pointing and using my fingers seemed to work. I ordered the sausage pizza. It took a little while to come out, but it was crowded and well worth the wait. Recommended by the young man at the desk of the hotel- "Don't worry if they throw the plates at you- they are nice and the food is good". When abroad it's always hard to find a place to eat but I was determined to check as many reviews as possible which brought us to Ai Marmi one night. The place is absolutely packed with students and locals, I dined at 9pm which is kind of normal in Italy. It's a very basic casual restaurant with plenty of seating. I had in my mind that I wanted two eat two things in Rome - Suppli and Pizza. Actually carbonara too but that's another story. I ordered their suppli and it was absolutely delicious. Similar to arancini it is crumbed and fried, inside it's tomato rice with mozzarella cheese. Hot, gooey and crunchy. The pizzas come overhanging the plate, piping hot with melted cheese. The toppings are simple but sufficient. We tried the quattro formaggi which tasted amazing with a good balance of the four cheeses. Quite often the blue sticks out too much but that wasn't the case. I also ordered a Capricciosa with olives, ham and egg. Absolutely delicious. The base is thin, there is no bloating after and the wood fired taste is great. The pizzas don't come sliced so for once I was actually eating pizza with a knife and fork! I'd definitely recommend this place if you're there. It's not right in the centre but easily walkable. While you're there check out the market stalls nearby too. read more

This is the best pizza we had while in Italy! We were lucky that this was close to our airbnb. We noticed the line, night after night, and decided to look it up. Lo and behold, we better get down there! They mostly have pizza here, no pasta. I don't think you can really go wrong here, but I had a speck and gorgonzola and it was deliciously stinky. We also shared a more typical sausage and somethin' else, and I loved it too! We had a hard time picking a favorite out of just two, so I recommend getting as many as your group can handle!
