After the very hot weather while visiting the Colesseo, we needed a cool place to recover and a friend had recommended Pizza Forum. This is a pretty busy and touristy place but has a lot of space and charm. The food was good but the highlight (besides the AC!) were the surprise singers and dancers that suddenly appeared and performed. That was pretty cool. The Spritz drinks we ordered are double what they cost elsewhere and our service was bleh. It was very hard to get a waiter, and they didn't follow up after the food was delivered. Finally another restaurant who served Moscato in Rome! That made me excited, then to walk in & see the beautiful decor! Oh my!! Definitely a restaurant to stop in & check out despite all the talk of it being a tourist trap. I was a bit hesitant but gave it a try & glad my family & I dined in. So many times I've heard don't dine near the attractions, almost always a tourist trap and the food isn't worth your Euros. However the exception is pizza forum where pizzas are made in authentic brick ovens, but it's more than pizza the entree's we had were up to par to the other restaurants we've tried in Rome. The service is impeccable, the decor is amazing with Italian tiles gracing the walls. I would definitely put this place on a bucket list to try while visiting the colosseum. read more

Such a unexpected big, spacious restaurant that's great for big crowds. You wouldn't know from the outside how big this resto is. Seated immediately, in a spacious booth in the back for 5, but it took long for our server to take our order. Luckily the other wait staff completed our dining utensils and placemat while we waited. Our server was nice and great at repeating our order to make sure he had everything right. Out order of calamari appetizer came out in good time, and our drinks even before that. So these 2 services were great. And then it happened...the waiting...the waiting.,,and more waiting for our meals. We didn't see our server again, and it was awfully long to get our 4 meals (2 of us shared). Such a bummer that we had to wait for our dinner and then my lasagne was really burnt along the edges. Not the best of lasagnas I've had, but just okay. Maybe that's how it should taste like, but I was expecting more flavor. This was some pretty good pizza! We got the last one listed on the menu with spicy ham(?) And ricotta-stuffed crust. Wow! It was so delicious! We also tried the eggplant parm as an appetizer - also fantastic- very creamy. Our server Alex was fantastic! We say outside, and we enjoyed it. We waited over an hour for our entrees while the tables around us were receiving their food so quickly that a few families sat down after us, ordered, got their food and left while we were waiting. I don't even know where to start. If you're starving and not a picky eater, then yes you should eat here. We knew it was a touristy place but figured you can't mess up a caccio e pepe or a margarita pizza. I was so wrong. The pasta was undercooked that you needed a knife to cut it. The pizza was bland with just one single basil leaf and the cheese did not melt. The appetizers were also unseasoned and very greasy. Not a place you will likely come back to. Very disappointing. Although the pizza was definitely different from what I'm used to in the states, I absolutely loved it! I got the O' Vesuvius and thought it was fantastic. The pizza itself was incredibly thin - about the thickness of a crepe - so this isn't something you can simply cut into slices and pick up and eat. It's a fork and knife pizza. The amount of tomato sauce was pretty light and I wish there would have been more but besides that I enjoyed everything else about it. It's hard to see but they use large slices of spicy salami so there were four total which took up the entire pizza. And the stuffed crust was also really good! I ended up eating about 95% of the entire pizza even though I probably should have stopped earlier. But it tasted good! Mom had the Carbonara and she wasn't a fan of it. I tried some and I didn't really like it as well. The sauce was heavy and lacked any flavor, it was just bland. I know that's a popular dish but it wasn't for us. And then I didn't really like the Suppli. They were super greasy, and again, once you started eating them, the insides just didn't have any discernable flavor. And I couldn't taste any cheese inside it at all. I'd still recommend eating here though because that pizza was a delicious experience! I'd probably just get a different pizza instead of the pasta next time! The location was also good, close to the Colosseum as well as where we stayed which was nice. I'm very late for the review so I don't recall the name of all the food but it was excellent! Although they say "Stay away from touristy area food spots" this one was not like others we had been too. After a late night colosseum tour this place hit the spot. You had both the vision of a beautiful Italian spot, the inside pulled you back into time and was very visually lush. It's located a block from the Colosseum, so naturally it's considered a "tourist trap." And in fact, the hostess(es) stand out front and greet people passing by in English and other languages to invite them in. But it's convenient, and they have a huge dining room in the back that you can't see from the street, so there's lots of tables and waitrons. My waitress was very nice. Although she spoke English perfectly, she agreed to speak Italian so I could practice. I had a delicious personal pizza Napoletana with salame calabrese (closest thing to pepperoni I could find), with a small salad, soda, and tip for ca. EU 20. The pizza was EU 12, and my Roman friends thought it was expensive (of course, you can find less expensive pizza). But it's not any more expensive than it would cost me in my city, and by far not the most expensive meal I had while in Italy. I enjoyed the experience and the food very much, and went back a second time when I returned to Rome. read more

Supplì - We really wanted to try this after proper street food place but this was the last night in Rome so had to get it here. Actually delicious! Crispy on the outside and lot of flavor. O' VESUVIUS (Tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella, spicy salami, pecorino cheese, ricotta-filled crust) The spicy salami was amazing! Really love the creative Ricotta stuffed crust as well. I think that's what made the crust edible cuz otherwise it was quite thick. Salmon And Truffle Pizza (Mozzarella, smoked salmon, yellow tomato, burrata, truffle flakes) We were hoping the burrata would actually be more creamy on the inside, but after cutting it up and distributing it on the pieces it went really well with the salmon. We were starving after the colosseum and needed to eat something so we thought stopping here would be at least a little decent, but boy were we wrong lol All the food was extremely bland. If you're needing a break from great Italian food, then this is your place! DO NOT use the positive reviews to make your decision! And, if you have one ounce of Italian blood in your body, you might like to know that the Olive Garden (arguably NOT Italian food) is better than this. My husband suggested Pizza Forum as it was close to the Colosseum, and our young kids were tired after a morning of tours. Although I figured it was a tourist trap based on the location, I was willing to give it a try because Yelp, Google, and several other review engines rated it highly. Outside the restaurant looked small, so I was surprised when we walked in and saw how large it was. I will say, the ambiance was bright and the restaurant seemed clean. We were seated quickly and our order was taken in a timely manner. Our starters were brought out fairly fast - Fritti Misti, a cheeseburger for my son, and a Greek salad for my daughter. I will commend that salad (American style with spring mix) - it looked and tasted amazing. Our second plates took a while to come out. My daughter's Matriciana was terrible - made with American bacon. Not even my husband, who is used to eating what the kids leave behind, was willing to eat it. He and I had ordered pizzas, and when they didn't come out after quite some time, we got fed up and asked that they be canceled if they weren't coming. The waiter went to check and promptly returned, saying they were in the oven. They arrived soon after, but definitely were not worth the wait. In the land where pizza originated, you'd think they could at least get those right. We ate about half of each pizza and asked for a box, but threw the leftovers away at the hotel. The waiter did ask how everything was and we avoided his question. When he asked again, we told him the pasta was terrible, but he just apologized and brought the bill. Pizza Forum is a huge, air-conditioned, tourist-friendly pizza restaurant located close to the Roman Colosseum. The specialty here, of course, is pizza, rolled out fresh and baked to order in a wood-fired oven. The Capriciossa was topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, artichokes, mushrooms, ham, and olives, and while tasty, the proportion of toppings wasn't well-balanced, and the cheese overwhelmed the other flavors. We also had their signature Forum pizza, which was folded at each of the four corners before being baked, and each of the four toppings contained a different filling: mozzarella, rapini (broccoli rabe), ham, and sausage. While creative, the dough of this pizza was far too thick, and portions of it were still raw in the middle. We stumbled upon this place on Yelp after a long morning of walking around the city, and it absolutely surprised me. There wasn't any wait, and the service was fast. I was a little hesitant on getting the fettuccine with mussels and sheep cheese because I'm not really a big fan of mussels. However, I was surprised at how good it was and how everything blended together perfectly. This automatically became one of the best dishes I've tried in Rome. The place was also very cute. Giant pizzas for a good price. The restaurant is located pretty close to the colosseo but still has a good amount of charm - especially with the outside tables. The mozzarelline fritte (fried mozzarella) app was on the smaller side for sure ..and with how large the pizzas are, I'd say order a pizza a person and maybe skip getting an antipasti. The pizzas were on the more oily side (but this honestly just added to the experience). I got the Forum pizza which felt more like 4 mini calzones. It was a square pizza with a different filling stuffed in each of the four corners. The variety between each corner was nice but it was certainly filling. Although the Forum is €15 which was on the more expensive side of their pizza options. Things I liked: 1) Food was good, but nothing spectacular... having said this, we just got bruschetta (tris di crostini) and a Caesar salad so we may not have gotten a good sense of their food. 2) Ambiance and AC. Clean (enough) toilets. The seating area was bright and clean. And after a whole day of biking, the AC was much needed. 3) Drinks were good. I had a mojito that was delicious but not strong at all. Still good... perhaps not worth the price since I'm pretty sure there was little to no alcohol. I needed something really cold to cool down, though. Things we didn't like: 1) Service. The servers weren't awful. Perfunctory but since they don't work on tips like we do in the US, we wouldn't expect them to be nice (although the server from another restaurant we went to the other day was). 2) The service charge. Be aware that this restaurant charges a service charge. They tacked on 5,50€ without letting us know. When I asked, the server gave me this lame excuse that its because it's a high tourist area. We've gone to many restaurants around the sites in the area and this is the first time I have seen this. When I pushed back a little bit suggesting that we weren't told about this ahead of time, she said she was just the server. Anyway, I suggested yhey wrap the price in the food so people know the true costs and we left. Overall, would I go back? No. I don't like that they slap charges on the bill without telling their customers. The food wasn't good enough to warrant getting past the service charge. read more

Such a disappointing experience- the service was AWFUL *and* they have a steep service charge. We ordered 3 pizzas after waiting 20-30 minutes for a waitress to take our order. The pizzas came out fast brought by someone different. 2 of the pizza's were decent but the one with mushrooms & greens on top was soaked with liquid. The mushrooms were slimy. The ambiance was below average. Low quality bathrooms, and one was missing a lock and my son had to hold it shut. Also, it took ten minutes to take a dessert out of a refrigerator.
