While out of town stopped in this restaurant. I found parking on the street. I walked into a very nicely decorated restaurant. I sat myself and Alexa was my bartender she was nice. I ordered the vodka martini and it was good. I then had the wonderful bread which was delicious! My meal was the lobster ravioli which was alright. I preferred the shrimp and scallop it came with. Chaotic, not organized, food not good 1. Went here for a Friday evening, had yelp reservation (which I did 40 mins prior to coming), still had to wait for 30 mins 2. Service - servers rushing to take orders and impatient. I was scared to talk to them. 3. Food - not as expected, caso de pepe was dry and noodles was too thick. Pizza was okay! 4. Chaotic - We were not asked how our food was? But all our neighbors were asked by servers. We were not asked for cheese on pizza/pasta, but our neighbors were asked. While the food was good, do not sit in a high top in the bar area - crazy traffic going by and a terrible draft from the front door even at the last table near the dining room. Soup came out without a spoon. Latte was stone cold. Waitress recommended a "special" bottle of wine without telling us it was $90. It was not good and had lots is residue at the bottle of the glass. I walked In the front door and was transported from downtown Scranton to what I can only describe as what I would dream a fancy pasta restaurant would look like in New York City, only with much more space. The large window where you could watch the pasta being made elevates the decor and reassured me of just how fresh the ingredients would be. The Vespa Viola was a perfect fresh gin cocktail that really highlighted the herbal gin notes with cut of limoncello and sweetened by the blackberry in a way that fit perfectly with the calamari which was cooked to delicate perfection. The pansoti con salsa di nocci had such a subtle flavor that sat so nicely in the tortellini and really brought out the spinach flavor. I was ready to leave after such a filling meal but was talked into trying a dessert and was not disappointed. The monterosa was so light and fluffy with a powerful punch from the strawberry. The limoncello I enjoyed with it was the perfect match and rounded out such a pleasant experience over all. We were in and out quickly and our server was very attentive to getting us what we needed with grace. Will definitely be back! read more

Disappointed with Service Despite Great Past Experiences I was very excited to dine here again, having enjoyed their food when they were located in the small strip mall near Gerrity's. Unfortunately, my lunch visit last week was a major disappointment. It wasn't crowded, but the outdoor music was so loud I could barely speak to my friend. Our drinks came quickly, but after waiting 50 minutes for our food, I went inside to check. The staff told me they were "just waiting on my pizza." I hadn't ordered pizza--I'd ordered a chicken cutlet hoagie. They handed me a chicken Parmesan hoagie to-go with no apology, no explanation, and very little interaction. The service felt dismissive and inattentive. While I may give it another try since so many people speak highly of this place, my experience was extremely poor this time. read more

The food was absolutely delicious and we didn't have to wait long after we ordered. I had been to their old location before, but only at lunchtime for their specials, which I thought were very reasonable. I was surprised by the much higher dinner prices, but the restaurant is very nice looking and there was plenty of staff around to help. The owners were very present and friendly. Our water glasses were empty for a while, but I'm sure if we had made a comment, they would have taken care of it immediately. We were there on a very busy evening, but we never felt rushed and it seemed like we could sit there all night and they would have been fine with that. We were really looking forward to eating here. What went wrong: the table we were seated at was in the isle next to a wine cooler that was accessed frequently. Water glass had a huge chip on the edge that I caught while my server was filling it. Food came out very quick, maybe too quick- no big deal. My pasta was cooked very well but the dish was very heavy, the pasta was almost glued together with the sauce. My husband's shrimp were like erasers, super over cooked. I know they are trying to be fancy with the 3 tiny tiny drops of butter around the plate for the bread was just silly. As far as the service, it started off well then our server disappeared. Turns out she was sent on a wine run and we saw her come back in with her arms loaded with wine bottles. The silverware was mismatched (pet peeve) but the fork my husband has was rounded which made it impossible to twist the pasta onto it. He also wanted a refill on his soda and even placed his glass on the edge of the table and nothing. The other servers were taking very good care of their tables but ours was gone. There was a very tall man all in chef black walking around checking on other tables to see if they were good and offering those with entrées Parmesan cheese once again except for us. (even the one right next to us) and he never even looked our way. The drink I had was made just right, so cheers to the bar. Felt bad for our server, shame on management. Two entrées, one appetizer, one drink and one soda $91 not worth it. read more

We went there 3 weeks ago and it was amazing and then we were there last weekend and was just ok. My wife had the same dish both times,, amaracitiana. The first time was absolutely delicious, rivaled the same dish we had in Italy, but this time it wasn't good at all. We couldn't believe it was the same dish. She didn't even eat the meal. The service was also poor this time. She never came back to ask if we wanted another drink or water. She served the meal and disappeared. She never even asked how our meal was . The bartender had no idea how to make an old fashioned which was very disappointing. The bartenders were pumping out the drinks, but not the quality you would expect at a restaurant like this. I was hoping the owner stopped by like he did last time to ask how everything was, but he never did. I wanted to share my thoughts with him directly because as a business owner myself, I always appreciate feedback that could be helpful. We brought friends with us expecting our first experience. They too left uninspired for pretty much the same reasons. One last thing, turning the lights out frequently for birthdays became annoying after awhile. Hopefully this review will be noticed by the owners so they could remedy these shortcomings. The food at this restaurant was amazing and the service was excellent. To be honest, we were extremely surprised that we found it in Scranton, Pennsylvania homemade pasta. The prices are excellent and the portions are excellent as well. I highly recommend this restaurant for anybody passing through or coming to see their kids at the university of Scranton. The ambience is also excellent with bar seating or just regular restaurant seating but the location is not huge by any means. We parked in the steam town mall parking garage. Food is the star of the show. Fresh pasta with pesto was off the chain. So damn good. The restaurant itself has zero ambience. It's an old pizza parlor with a few booths and tables. The food is amazing so I couldn't possibly care less. It's a byob. Gerrity,s has wine if you forget to bring your own. It's a bit pricey but worth every penny. Made reservations for 7:30. We were not seated until after 8:00, reservations are not honored, it is more a first come first serve. Our seats were located in the worst spot for dinner, it seemed the table was added in to make more seating, it was small with chairs that didn't match the nicer chairs at the other tables. We were almost in the hallway of the waiters area where they put together silverware and place the orders- high traffic and very loud. It was also very cold inside, made worse by the constant wind created from the servers going in and out of the hallway area. My seat was almost on top of the table behind us. Very uncomfortable. Service was not attentive, took a long time to get a glass of wine. The food was pretty good, but over all not an enjoyable experience specifically due to the table location, and the long wait despite making a reservation. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the homemade quality of the food at Picciocchi's. I travel for work and was in the mood for some good Italian food. Picciocchi's did not disappoint. I had the calamari for a starter and the bucatini dinner option. Both were delicious and well cooked, just right for both dishes. I love that they only have Italian wines, not french and no california. I had to try something different and it was a fantastic glass of Red. I can't remember what it was, but awe soooo good. When is Scranton and in the mood for Italian, you must visit Picciocchis. It was hard to find at first as I couldn't see the sign from the street. It's very discreet but worth hunting for. If you knew me- you know I know food. And I'm Italian with grandparents who grew up in Italy. Picciocchi's Pasta is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! From the moment we sat down, we were greeted with excellent service. We ordered the calamari and meatballs. The calamari was so tender, and the meatballs were so good, we took an order home with us. Chef Picciocchi was out and about the entire time checking on every table. He made you feel like a VIP. He made a recommendation for my dinner and it was incredible- Chicken Scallopini with pesto spaghetti. My son ate all of his pizza, and Chef Picciocchi made him an additional two slices! Just wow. My mother and I stopped in while visiting family and we were blown away. First of all the Patio and restaurant are gorgeous, thats what drew us in. We stopped at the bar for a glass of wine, Ashley gave us such great recommendations that we decided to stay for some anti-pasta despite out tight schedule! The clams were to die for! The space is beautiful , but the food is mediocre and the person in charge (looks like a chef, not sure if hes the manager, chef, owner..) walks around and yells at the staff and corects customers on their "italina" pronounciation . Great food I like that the cook/owner hand delivered every dish to the table. Nice large space and beautiful ambiance. We did go on Christmas Eve so at first they misplaced our reservation but they found us a table. They also forgot to bring our mixed drinks over to the table. We didn't get them until after the salads and we asked again but since it was just opening that week and it was a holiday that was ok. Mistakes are expected to be made sometimes. No matter how good the food eventually was, by the time we were seated we were pretty much over it. Stood there for nearly an hour with just the odd 'sorry'. No offer of a drink or a seat at the bar. Thought we might get fast service as it took so long to get seated but we sat there another 15 minutes before even getting offered water. Reservation was for 7:45 and we were still finishing up as staff were cleaning and setting the rest of the tables. Avoid second sitting at all cost and you might have a great night. This place is tucked away in the most unassuming strip malls. And don't let it fool you -- the restaurant is far and above one of the most beautiful meals I have ever had. If I wanted to eat on a couch, I would stay in my living room. very pretentious and with very limited staff. I had to travel yesterday to the Wyoming Valley for a business appointment and took the opportunity to visit with my old friend, Bill Toms, of Clarks Green. Bill and I worked together as investigators with the Commonwealth many years ago and strive to keep in touch. While there, we stumbled upon Picciocchi's Pasta. Neither Bill or I had been there in the past but just from observing from the outside it appeared to have a great variety of pasta offerings. To say that Picciocchi's is a spectacular pasta emporium is simply an understatement. I know that the NE region of the county is rich in Italian eateries, but Stefano, the head chef and owner, in partnership with his wife, Kristy, take their culinary craft to an altogether new level.
