I don't think I have been here in 4 years or more.. It used to be among my top 5 starters for Italian food in Marin but for some reason I haven't been there as maybe I was getting a little tired of there chow. I also used to go to the other Piatti's in Montecito, Thousand Joaks, Sacoftomatoes. Anyway, I went there last night and it was truly good. So again, since I haven't been there in a while, I was impressed with renovation. Well done. The snooty hostess sat me down at a bad table but I was able to move, thanks to my wonderful waiter in about 5 minutes to an adult table. What we had was very good. The shrimp app, a real scampi from the old school was 5 stars, the bread was good, my main was a pork shoulder that maybe could have been slowed cooked to bring out the best in the meat but is was quite good too. The tiramisu as good enough and the espresso hit the spot. The place has a nice vibe to it as the sunset hit the Bay and Mr. Tam in front of us. Very good food, wonderful Italian flavoring and super service. So, it looks like it goes back into the rotation and on the 40 man. Maybe sending them to the minors was not a good move in the first place. read more

Table by the window - fantastic waterfront view. The decor is very comfortable and very much my style. Clean colors of white, beige walls and dark furniture. Hubby and I shared the Carpaccio and the polenta with mushrooms. Both were delicious. For our entrees, I had the Tagliatelle with bolognese sauce (excellent), and my husband had the Orecchiette with spicy sausage. They looked like little ears (ha!). I only had a little taste, because I liked my dish better. For dessert, we shared the Panna Cotta. Any place that serves this, I order it. Vanilla cream - smooth and so yummy. Perfect with the strawberries and balsamic sauce. For cocktails, they changed the selection from what I saw online, but I really wanted to try this one called Pera - so I asked for it. Basically it's Grey Goose Pear Vodka, Midori, Triple Sec, lemon juice and pear. SO GOOD! Perfect ending to a hard work week. read more

Very disappointing dinner at Piatti with my wife last night. It's loud, overpriced, and the food is just so-so. Service was mediocre as well. Started with the calamari, a big disappointment. The batter didn't stick to the calamari so the plate ended up with a bunch of greasy fried batter on it. Not much calamari, more beans and onions. The Caesar salad was fine, but at $13 for a small bowl it wasn't nearly worth it. $8 would have been more like it. My wife had the clam pasta, I had the pappardelle. Both were fine, but nothing you couldn't make yourself at home. Overall we found the menu to be quite bland, nothing like Il Fornaio where there's always something interesting. Service was lacking. Bread didn't arrive until after both starters were served, my wife was twice asked if she wanted another glass of wine, and we waited ages for our check before flagging the waiter down. Won't go again. Certainly wasn't a meal worth $130 for the two of us. read more

Cheese, full bar and water front view. Seriously what else do you need? Your table is ready and set with savor-full sourdough and the best dipping sauce known to mankind. The salads are staples, the dishes involve cheese and the wine list is guaranteed to have a tasteful compliment to any meal you choose. The water front seating is what really sends this ambiance into high gear. The cheese ravioli with lemon-infused cream sauce is a sure win. It's located right off the freeway and can also serve as a perfect stop on your way home from work for a quick drink. The full bar seating is intimate and a great spot to observe surrounding high top tables filled with awkward blind dates (or at least what I've witnessed thus far during my visits). It's a great meal, a great location and if you're lucky can provide a wonderful place to people watch. read more

Very Mediocre food. The actual restaurant was pretty nice, but the service wasn't very good, and when that and your food aren't especially appealing, it is easy to be turned off to the surroundings. I can't be too harsh, as the dessert THAT WE BROUGHT, was delicious and made the conclusion to our evening a bit more memorable while the weather was nice, so we could take in the pretty view. Overall, the price is a bit steep for what you are getting, the service needs to shape up, and the menu could offer a bit more. I hear they have remodeled, so I will most likely make it back someday down the road, if I happen to be really, really, really, close, and it is extra convenient to go there. read more

I came here for a co-worker's going away party just last week. They have this pita bread with goat cheese spread that is to die for! The pizzas were mediocre... too much residual oil floating on top (on both the plain cheese and the pepperoni). I would definitely get the mussels and the meatballs again. All in all, on a warm summer day, I would suggest sitting out on the back patio!! The sun slowly setting behind the mountains. Great location, excellent service... just avoid the pizzas. read more

Im still not sure about this place. Once upon a time it had a large menu. Then for one reason or another it shrank, while other locations kept the good menu. With a new chef the menu ended up with a 'chefs version of...'. Those were sick jokes. A muffaletta that would fit on a McDonalds hamburger bun? Had the chef actually ever seen a muffaletta? Then there were pasta dishes that were missing half the ingredients from a typical recipe. Thankfully that chef seems to be long gone (from what I gather the staff had no love for that one either). For some odd reason the Mill Valley location still has the joke menu (give us the La Jolla or Santa Clara menu!). The goat cheese from the oven is an excellent appetizer but you'll probably want to share it. The pizzas can be hit or miss, the pasta large size is still rather small. read more

Piatti's has been one of my top five go to spots for a relaxed dinner. Great food, good selection of wines even by the glass, and reasonable prices (at least by Marin standards). The place is noisy, even worse than most restaurants in the Bay Area. That's my only complaint. I recommend it. read more

I called ahead of time because it was a special occasion and wanted to make sure my bf's meal (he is vegetarian) was perfect. Whomever i spoke to on the phone was both rude and flat out told me they couldn't help create anything even close to what i wanted in his words "if we did this then we would have 150 plates being changed a nite and would never get anything out of the kitchen". The way i was spoken to made me feel both unwanted and insignificant, not a particularly good first impression. Im from chicago visiting, and never have i been treated so horrifically as a patron at any of the premier 5 star restaurants in my city. I recommend finding some place else to enjoy italian. read more

We stopped in here for happy hour. We had decent wine and the short ribs (not on the happy hour menu). The dish was very good, but it wasn't balanced enough. Oh my. Where to begin. First we came in for lunch and sat on the patio. We're served water quickly but then sat for ten minutes without being greeted. Not good. Especially for a white tablecloth type of place. Then we placed our wine orders as well as entrees. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Wine was served just before the good arrived. But the food was bad. So bad. I had the shrimp linguine, it had a light tomato sauce, garlic, chili, and olives. With all those flavorful ingredients it should have been good. But it wasn't. At all. Bland bland bland. Like no salt at all in the cooking process. No heat from supposed chilis. And no garlic that I could see. Husband's mussels were also terrible. But he did have one flavor component. Garlic. Just garlic. No salt or other flavors. And the server never returned to check in on us. I had to flag him down for the check. Never again. One stars for noise--the food may have been great but I would never know. There were 2 tables close to us with small children that should not have been in the restaurant. I can't believe that a restaurant would allow children to annoy patrons in that manner. We were there for an nice Pleasant birthday lunch and it was anything but quiet. We couldn't hear each other over the children. This is the restaurant's responsibility. Don't allow children to run rampant, screaming and taking over the restaurant. If the patents can't control the children the restaurant should ask them to leave in consideration of the other patrons I won't be back. read more

Love love love the vibe. Here at least once a week. Staff is great, views are great, drinks are great, brunch is off the hook, happy hour best deal in town and the pizzas rock. Got the $20 3-course meal. What a deal. Started with a cold tomato soup - very tasty and a cucumber drink, also tasty. Then had the linguine, very good and the past was just right. After trying to decide between the gelato and tiramisu for my whole meal, I went for the old tried and true tiramisu, it's a pretty big serving! Great dinner. Maybe I've been in Marin too long but $20 for a 3-course meal, and a good one at that, was a treat. That's a deal right?! I don't know why we didn't come here sooner. Service was attentive and you have a great view if it's not too hot out on their deck. We will definitely be back. read more

I've been here a lot for personal meetings, business meetings and events. I'll keep going back for meals and small meetings that we can have at a table. The largest down side is working with their event person. I've seen her behave very unprofessional to women and then be sweet as a peach to men. Our teams consensus is that we think she answers emails while she's running around doing stuff. This means that she misses details and is pretty short in her replies and then, if you're female, she blames any fall outs on your ineptitude. After a number of incidences with her and our team, we don't book events there any longer. It's a shame because it has great ambiance, location and food. I'll keep going back for these latter points where I don't have to deal with this woman. read more

We were so excited to take our kids here after a nice dinner with neighbors. However, it was tough to get a reservation and even after being seated at a nice corner table, we didn't have a good experience. The corner was rotted due to obvious long-term water damage that led to a massive ant infestation, which plagued us during our entire dinner. The waitress seemed nonplussed. When one of our kids needed to use the bathroom, we found a rocking toilet (with only a 50 pound kid on it), which made us wonder if there were more structural issues in this waterfront restaurant. And to discover they're owned by Auberge de Soleil makes me think they can afford a handyman. The food was decent, but portions were small for the price. Good kids menu, though. With the other options in Marin, we won't be back. read more

I'm devastated! Piatti jumped the shark for me tonight. I LOVED this restaurant and tonight it was so very disappointing!. It's the Heirloom Tomato Celebration and I told my friends we had to go. I wish I didn't. We got a terrible table by the hot and smoky kitchen. I swear they save bad tables for Diners with Open Table reservations, but can't be sure. This happens at many restaurants, however. Regardless I ordered the heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad. Who serves GIGANTIC SLICES of mozzarella with quartered tomatoes? It was a mess and the mozzarella was so dry. My meal was my favorite:. The gnocchi. Tonight it was missing tomato sauce and was dry as a bone! Oh and for a table of 4, we got a basket of bread with tiny pieces of bread that were hard to dip. My drink was wrong also. I ordered a blood orange margarita and got a pink martini or something. It wasn't what I ordered. Dessert was the final straw. What they billed as a "seasonal fruit tart" was hot apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top that was half melted when it arrived at my table. Geeez!! I loathe milk and this looked like milk on top of hot apple crumble. Does that sound like a "seasonal fruit tart" to you??? Sadly, I won't be back. Too much money for everything being clearly screwed up. I had an affair last year in their banquet room and it was wonderful. What a difference a year makes. read more

Service is good, view is good; food is so-so, portion is kinda small, price is not so good. I know it depends on what you order too. However, dishes are on the salty side. An excellent restaurant in Mill Valley. It has been around for a long time, and for good reason: the food's good and they have a killer deck to utilize during nice weather. We had a great brunch at Piatti to celebrate my birthday. We received the focaccia with olive oil and roasted garlic as a starter. I had the Black Forest ham and balsamic onion omelet. I absolutely love this place. I tried about 6 different. Dishes, and all where good. The salad I had was simple, but tasted fresh and was appropriate for the beginning of spring. All restaurants serve bread but this bread I had was light and fluffy. The main course I had was a linguine, with whit clams and a white wine sauce. The delicate sauce paired very well with the pleasantly tart clams. At my table we order 2 desserts that we shared. The first one I tried was a flour less cake with a coffee ice cream, the cake it's self was a little to sweet and very dense, but, the ice cream was superb and since the cake was sweet the ice cream compensated for the cake being sweet. read more

Piatti has redeemed itself. I've been back many times and it's so much better than my earlier experience, I'd almost call myself a regular now. The chopped salad now has a ton of flavor. Pizzas are great and I love that they offer half bowls of pasta because they're a perfect size! The wines by the glass menu range from not-too-expensive to $16 or more a glass. Happy hour is a zoo, but fun when you can get a seat at the bar or a table outside on a nice day. read more

We were staying at a nearby hotel and chose this place for its location. Hostess acted surprised we didn't have a reservation. We were seated in an awkward spot, like in a busy walkway. Still could make out the view of the bay and mt tam, however. Service was ok. Food came quickly but server never offered drink refills. I advise you to skip their house Cabernet....tasteless. Food was very good. Green salad was light and fresh. Pasta with wild mushrooms for me, pasta with prawns for my husband. Both were totally delicious. This review is mainly for Brunch. Great setting and very consistent reliable service. When family travels to town we head here to get great views of the water, Mt. Tam and then take a stroll along the coastal bay walk. The meatballs are good but its the gooey mozzarella and the sauce that puts it over the top. The goat cheese with flatbread might be one of the best appetizers I've ever had that wasnt at a place like Gary Dankos or high end spots. Steak is good but not something that I would go here specifically for. Overall, the 4 stars are for: great setting, great brunch, good portions, consistent service, good drinks, lots of accessible parking and great banquet services. If I could I would give 5 stars just for the goat cheese appetizer tho. It's so good I want to rub it on my face so me, my girlfriend and my dog can lick it off...might sound weird but it's that good. read more

We had our son's and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner at Piatti, Mill Valley, and everything could not have been more perfect! To start with, Kristin, the event Coordinator, was always prompt in responding and quick in accommodating our requests to ensure that our event was a success! The day of our event, we stopped by ahead of our event, to drop off some items, and we were met by the General Manager to assist us with all the last minute details. Our guests were not only impressed with the beautiful set up/scenery of the banquet room, but the food choice was delicious, we selected the family style dinner, and the service was excellent. To top it all off, we had the most beautiful sunset overlooking the water and with Mount Tamalpais in the background. The head server, Travis, exceeded all our expectations and could not have been more gracious, accommodating, friendly, professional and just made the whole event that much more enjoyable. Brian and Josh were also wonderful and hospitable. Travis even boxed leftovers for us to take home ;-). I highly recommend Piatti for any special group event. read more

Piatti just re-opened. I hadn't been to this branch and I must confess my anti-chain and anti-Marin-restaurant prejudices. I just don't think the restaurants in Marin are worth traveling over the bridge. We have so many better ones in SF. Anyhow, Piatti confirmed both prejudices. Mediocre --tasteless, actually -- food, inept service (15 minutes until our wine was served, waiter knew nothing about the menu). Reminded me of Poggio, which I was coerced into trying several years ago. They'd be fine if we lived in Kansas. read more

My only complaint only has to do with the lack of coziness to the restaurant. Although it was very classy, it didn't feel anything like an Italian restaurant. We arrived in Mill Valley on a Friday night, and wanted a place within walking distance from our hotel (Acqua). Front desk recommended this place, and it didn't disappoint. We split a few appetizers, of which the shrimp crostini was particularly memorable, or rather the spicy sauce it was in. My personal highlight was the basil gimlet, a cocktail that screams summer, even if the temperatures didn't. Overall, it was a good call. Our server was friendly, the wine wasn't horribly overpriced, the views of the bay and subsequent sunset more-than-adequately scenic, and the food above average. read more

Who would have thought that one of the highlights of the meal would be the bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip at the beginning of the meal?! I was skeptical, as I didn't like the old Piatti. But the remodel has made the space much more romantic - much softer lighting, clean design. We ate in the bar and the food was great. The pizza with rosemary, radicchio, proscuitto was perfect. The fresh rosemary added a hearty and earthly flavor that wasn't overpowering, but wonderfully savory. I will definitely go back just for the pizza. (By the way - if you want to try another restaurant with brick-oven pizza with a thin blistered crust and amazing toppings - check out Cucina in San Anselmo - it's my favorite). read more
