A very old school Marin spot, but I was disappointed that the patio was closed during happy hour. They had valet parking at the front which was nice, but seemed a bit unnecessary. The drinks were very traditional, so good, but nothing out of the ordinary. We got a salad and some pasta, both of which were fine, but nothing too incredible. I do have to say the view of the water here is very beautiful. I would come back just for drinks and to sit on the patio. read more

I used to drive by this place every day on the way to and from work, but I'd never actually stopped in. My wife and I met a couple of friends for dinner and drinks on a Tuesday evening. Happy hour goes until 6:30 p.m., and it is worth it. Everything on the food menu is really cheap and worth the $5~. The pizza is about the size of a small at a pizza place. Get one of those, plus an order of the fries, plus a couple of orders of the meatballs, and you're set. Drinks are also reasonably priced. The view west over the lagoon is really nice, especially if it's a clear night. It doesn't get too loud. read more

It was just OK. Calamari - Overcooked. Overall the calamari itself was quite rubbery and there were way more pieces of vegetables than the calamari Arancini - The arancini themselves were decent. Nice cheese to risotto ratio but the dipping sauce seemed more like dipping oil. Not sure what the sauce's consistency was supposed to be like but seemed way more oily than anything else. Grilled porkchop - Unfortunately, it was undercooked so we had to send it back. They were quite accommodating when we surfaced the issue. They put our pork chop back on the grill including the pieces that were already cut up. I wasn't expecting a new one to be grilled just to be clear because that would've taken a lot longer. Unsure if they gave us new accompaniments. I hope they didn't since it was an undercooked pork chop on top of the sides. (farro + bacon) Pizzas - My family advised the pizza was decent - no complaints there. The crust seemed good with the right amount of chewiness Bucatini Pomodoro - This dish was decent. The pasta well cooked and the sauce stuck to the pasta quite nicely. Bread - Kudos that the bread came out warm along side with an olive oil / herb dipping mixture. Bread was a clear winner Server - A bit eccentric and seemed a bit nervous or something when reading the specials. She did promise us that the appetizers would be free since they took so long (IMHO we weren't waiting that long but I'm not gonna say no to a free app) but when the bill came - both items were on there. I happily paid it because we did consume the items so it's only fair to the restaurant. Overall - I would give this restaurant another shot (especially since I've been to the Danville location with a much better experience). read more

Piatti is an elegant and attractive restaurant whose food is generally good, but after going there literally hundreds of times over the years I can honestly say that if it wasn't a natural gathering place to meet a group of friends who are regulars, I would never go there. I blame management, or rather lack of management. The food frequently arrives cold. The menu never seems to change or adds anything - over years. Last week one of my friends bit down on something sharp in her dinner and cut her mouth. A second friend sitting right next to her, who had ordered something different at the same,found a sharp wire sticking up out of his fried calamari. It had clearly been fried into the food and fortunately was clearly visible, but neither the chef or waiter noticed it. There are frequently large parties which create noise that makes conversation impossible, but management is invisible. The bathroom are frequently dirty and without toilet tissue. The wifi is so bad that most of us switch it off and use cellular. This despite tons of complaints which are not listened to. The bartenders are great but don't appear to be supported by management. If management doesn't start paying attention, especially to its regular patrons, it may find its customer base significantly reduced. read more

That said we had a fantastic meal Tuesday night starting with two appetizers the Crab cakes which we agreed were the best we have had anywhere extra large and full of rich crab... The scampi appetizer was a meal by itself. My favorite Caesar salad is the way I remembered I have gone Here just for the Caesar one of Marin's best The Highlight was the Sea Bass Most beyond belief .. We sat at the bar and we were helped by Hugo who was super friendly and offered great recommendations and accommodations for food allergies. I had a wonderful lunch there yesterday. I was celebrating my bday and the waiter was delightful and engaging with a big smile. He anticipated I would like sparkling, made good recommendations and was very personable. The eggplant fries were great with the dipping sauces and the Rigatoni was also done well. The ambiance had changed since the last time I was there, with a modern appeal and the view was very calming and relaxing. If there was anything that I could complain about was that there was a charge for the Foccacia,, which was on the menu but I didn't notice the added expense until the bill came. Last night I met a friend for drinks. We sat at the bar. The sun was setting but coming through the windows quite brightly. I asked the bartender to lower a shade, which he did. Within minutes, a woman raised them. I asked her to please keep them lowered for the time being due to the glare. She refused, saying the sun was setting and would be gone in 20 seconds. I asked if she could please lower them. She did...for 20 seconds. It was clearly an act of aggression and was extremely off putting. It turns out she is the manager. Wow, not customer centric at all. Another patron at the bar said she is horribly rude and bad for Piatti business. I agree. I will not return there as long as she is there. And I'll let others know about her as well. read more

Only 3.5 stars for Piatti.. that's heartbreaking! Glad I am here to give this restaurant the review it deserves. I work in the building right next to Piatti, almost sharing a parking lot. We like to call this place our corporate cafeteria, let me just add: yes, I realize how lucky I am. We eat here quite frequently for client meetings, office celebrations and just recently threw our 40th anniversary party there. I love the food at Piatti and we have always received great service. The olive oil that comes with bread before your meal is so garlicy and delicious! Last time the office went for lunch we shared the calamari app and were pleasantly surprised it came with some also battered and fried peppers, green beans and onions. This was a nice treat in comparison to your regular just rings and tentacles. Two gentleman had the cobb salad. I had the gem caesar followed by a small bowl of pasta with bolognese sauce, it was perfect and so tasty! And another officemate enjoyed the salmon special. With a bottle of white, it was a perfect lunch. Just last night, as I mentioned, we hosted the 40th anniversary of our office party at Piatti. Kristin Lehmkuhl, was a great help and we have worked with her on other events held at Piatti. She answers questions by email very quickly and is willing to work with you on all aspects. We had an abundance of food and lucky for me, got to take a lot of it home! We had meat and cheese plates, a dessert platter, mushroom cigars (the best item!) pizzas, beef skewers, sliders and bacon wrapped prawns. All of it was so amazing! I get to see the view everyone is talking about from my window at work everyday, but I will still say, sitting on the patio at Piatti is quite wonderful and it is pretty protected from the wind. There is valet parking which I think is just fabulous and really adds to the experience of dining here. I see one review complaining about the valet for a 1/2 filled parking lot.. what really should be considered here, is that although a fair sized parking lot, this restaurant can fill up. I know this as I have seen Piatti guests parking in the business lot. Using the valet helps the restaurant and all the offices around it to maximize the lot as they can park cars at different angles and create spaces to get everyone in. Although the lot might not be full when you arrive, take advantage of this free/included service as it's just an added perk, but also helps the Shelter Bay community! I love Piatti! I've never had one, but one or two bad experiences could never drive me away. While the noise level is pretty high the service we received more than made up for it. Casey was the most attentive server we've had in many, many years. He found a way to promptly bring drinks and wine when the bar was extremely busy. He also grabbed a wine cooler for us without asking. He was busy but always kept an eye on our wine glasses and seemed to refill us just before I was reaching for the bottle myself. The food too was really good and the rest of the serving support staff was on top of things as well. Traffic was bad on Highway 101 so we pulled off and had dinner while it calmed down. I should not be trusted to write reviews for Italian restaurants because my taste buds are completely spoiled from eating many years of homemade Italian food like hand-crafted Ricotta, made-from-scratch Gnocchi, and simmered-all-day braciola and meatballs. Because of this, I rarely eat out at Italian restaurants, even nice ones, and I only end up eating American style Italian food just to satisfy my picky child whose very limited diet consists of pasta, pasta and more pasta. That said, I was treated to an Italian dinner for my birthday at Piatti, and somehow, it gets four stars. The restaurant is beautiful inside, elegant, romantic, and yet casual, and overlooks the water. This is already good. The dipping balsamic & oil for the bread was so so so good - they add what tastes like lemon and basil to it, and garlic as well. What I had: the fettuccine and prawns with crushed tomato, garlic and capers. The fettuccine was a little softer than al dente, but overall the dish was really good. The prawns were cooked perfectly. Other things I tried: the pizza margherita with made fresh daily mozzarella (they make it there) was absolutely delicious. And, the spaghetti and meatballs (my kid's order, of course) was really delicious. The meatball was a little on the dry side, but still very tasty. My child ate the whole thing, so she must have liked it. Also, the Italian chopped salad was good with romaine, chickpeas, salami, and green olives. I also had the Piatti house red wine which was a Cabernet, I believe, and it was really, really good. The service was excellent, and somehow the waitress picked up on the fact that it was my birthday and she came out with a surprise lemon sorbet. It was light, tangy and sweet with pieces of lemon zest inside. A perfect ending to a pasta meal. I would definitely go back. read more

My wife and I chose Piatti to meet some out of town friends staying in Sausalito for a happy hour visit. We arrived at 5:00 PM and were lucky to find a table that would seat four in the bar area. There was no cocktail service so I had to wait at the bar to order drinks and take them back to the table. Once we had our first round of drinks the waitress arrived and gave us a happy hour and dinner menu. We ordered a $6.00 pizza from the happy hour menu. It was okay. Good crust but flavorless otherwise. We all had cabernet at $13.00 a glass. The pour was very light. Less than half a glass in a small wine glass. I would suggest ordering a bottle instead of wine by the glass. The draft beer is served in a tall 12 ounce glass certainly not a pint. I'm not feeling it for happy hour value or ambiance. I booked a reservation with open table for two people at 5 PM at Piatti's. On open table I chose dining room standard (not chefs counter nor lounge bar area). Under special requests, I requested a table by the window. When we arrived they showed us to a hightop table in the lounge area so we reminded them of our selection. Then we were taken to an awful table in the standard dining room literally by a busy walkway. At this point, we asked to speak with the manager and three portly men surround the hostess area. One asks 'how may I be of service?' My husband responds, ' I simply want a good table.' The man condescendingly replies with a false grin, ' All our tables are good.' and another man begins to tell us that they have a lot of large groups booked. At this point my husband and I are exasperated. Of course, we left and told them we'd never be back. We simply went another exit to Buckeye and without a reservation got a great table for two and an excellent dinner. Another nearby place is Robata Grill, a great Japanese restaurant with courteous professional staff. read more

Came here for my mom's birthday celebration. Our napa wine bus tour stopped here for brunch at around 11am. It wasn't busy at the time, and they easily accommodated our big group of 20. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly and really good at handling a large group. Food was good! They had a small and a big portion available for the pastas - I was full off of the small portion of spaghetti bolognese. My spaghetti was pretty standard..it wasn't bad but it wasn't very tasty either. Everyone else in our group really enjoyed their food though, so I think if I were to come back I would have to try something else. Overall, I do recommend. read more

Dinner last night was fabulous! We enjoyed several appetizers: meatballs, burrata, calamari. The sauce served with the shrimp appetizer was amazing . Everything was served very quickly. The wait staff was attentive. We ordered the pork chop, the grilled salmon, and the steak. Everyone was very pleased with what they ordered. No room for dessert! Piatti - Shrimp appetizer - Italian Near Me - Mill Valley, California

First off let me say I don't have a problem paying for something that is worth it. I had there Garlic Prawns app which was absolutely miserable. The Prawns have to be 21-25 and white shrimp which has absolutely no flavor,this was served on pice of bread for $14.00+. I then ordered the Pork Chop, but before that I asked if it was a big cut,the waiters eyes blew up and followed by a hearty,"yes". I was happy because I had asked about the Prawns and was told they are large. The $29.00 pork chop arrived. Now for the price I was expecting a Double Cut and when the waiter told me it was a large cut,I figured that was the way to go. I was saddened at what was presented to me, it was not a large cut,it was not even center cut with bone in. This piece of meat was on a bed of Butter Beans and what looked like shredded Swiss Chard. I will not be going back anytime soon. read more

Disappointed with today's lunch and probably won't return. We've gone to Piatti's on and off for a very long time. Have loved the ambiance, the food was always good enough. Today both of our dishes were off in flavor. Dressing on lunch salad had an odd taste we couldn't place and ravioli was over lemony in a way that isn't pleasant. We were charged for focaccia and there was no sign from the waiter that it wasn't complimentary. It seems there may be a new chef, different recipes that have removed some of the appeal of Piatti. We hope they work out the balance of flavoring. The other piece for us, no one working at the restaurant was wearing a mask. We are still in a pandemic and it would be a responsible thing for some of the staff to wear masks when in direct contact with customers. I went here for lunch last week for my birthday. It was delicious. The service was awesome too. The server over heard us talking about it being my birthday and he brought out some cake and ice cream at the end. Didn't even ask or say anything. GREAT SERVICE. The salmon sandwich is so good. And BTW to all of Marin who are obsessed with Rickey's restaurant, they have the same salmon sandwich at Piatti for lunch as Rickey's and guess what, it's cheaper and better than Rickey's! It's hard to mess up your basic spaghetti & meatballs, but my dish was horrible. Pasta overcooked. Served practically dry. Asked for extra sauce which when it arrived tasted like tomatoes and water, no herbs, no garlic, no flavor! Moreover, it's consistency was very thin, more a broth than a sauce. Meatballs were tender but not much flavor. Service was worse. Waitress arrived to say hello and pour water, but did not ask if we wanted drinks. 15 minutes later came back to take our food order and I ordered a glass of wine and some butter for the bread. 15 later, no wine or butter. Flagged her down and asked if she forgot, but she blamed the "busy" bartender. However I could see the bar from my table and he certainly did not look busy to me! 5 minutes later, food arrived, still no wine. 5 more minutes, wine arrives but I sent it back because as I explained I had wanted to enjoy it before my meal. I did tell the waitress about my food complaints and to her credit, she gave me a free dessert. But she didn't wait until it was the appropriate time to ask, just putting a dessert menu down on the table while I was still eating the aforementioned spaghetti (I was hungry!) And maybe the gentle art of serving a meal so that the customers enjoy it doesn't happen anymore. But I don't understand plopping down the check on the table while the customer is still eating their food and not even asking if they want dessert, coffee or an after dinner drink. Part of a servers job is to sell the food and the more they sell, the bigger the check and the bigger their tip. All in all, an experience that was not enjoyable and I will not be going back. By the way, I should add that I was there at 6 PM on a Sunday (earlier today) and that the place was only half full. read more

The roasted potatoes were perfect, the Brussels sprouts were yummy but a little undercooked and the halibut tasted fresh and had a nice sauce on it but it was overcooked. Disappointing. read more

Piati's in Mill Valley, is a great place for happy hour because its 7 days a week. The happy hour menu is incredibly reasonable. They have two types of pizza, a margarita, and a pepperoni along with meatball sliders it's truly a delicious cuisine would recommend if you want happy hour. Also they have free valet so you don't have to pay for parking and they also have heaters for whenever your sitting outside and your cold. It's really a great restraunt. read more

Piatti is not fancy schmancy but offers casually exquisite dining. The menu is Italian inspired, not so much authentic Italiano, but with inventive Italian accents. It is at the same time eclectic with a CA twist reflecting local sourcing and seasonality of the menu items. The dining room affords magnificent views of Richardson's Bay and Mt. Tam and provides a good spot for business dinners or social gatherings among friends and families. Considering its scenic waterfront (we are talking about Marin County!) and semi-classy décor, it is surprising that the prices are not higher up in the clouds. We had a 6.30 reservation on a Sunday and were promptly seated by the welcoming hostess. To kick off the evening, we ordered the Tower of Piatti. I'm only kidding as it wasn't labeled that way in the menu but as King Salmon Tartar ($13.00), which was interestingly presented in the shape of a round tower. Darn! It would be awesome if the tower were leaning! It had small pieces of chopped salmon blended into a delicious paste-like consistency with creamy avocado, roasted gypsy peppers, olives and scallions. Drizzle a few drops of lemon infused olive oil for a smoother texture. The final concoction was like a "salsa-chips" dip accompanied by four pieces of thinly sliced and extra crunchy toasted crostini. It was a wonderful appetizer that was just enough to whet your appetite without filling you up. (4/5) We ordered a small, simple 2 toppings stone-hearth oven pizza. The pizza with pepperoni and crushed tomatoes ($9.00) was perfect and gave the pizza a little saltiness and smokiness. Mozzarella was tasty too and added a creamy and smooth layer to the surface while giving the dough even more depth of flavor and a crackling crust. The thin crust has a nice bit of crunch but was still pliable enough to be folded in half for an easier bite. (4/5) Who can pass up a Crispy Skin Half Chicken ($19.00) presumably done Italian style? One half of a small chicken with thigh, wing and breast was roasted perfectly to a nice golden brown complete with skin on. I know the skin was not the healthiest part but I was ready to make one slight transgression. Savor the crispy skin that had tons of flavors with the moist, juicy thigh meat to boot. I have always overdosed myself with dried up, flavorless, boneless, skinless chicken breast and this was a nice break! Now going on to the sides. I could barely taste the blue lake beans (in the family of green beans) as they are touted to be mild, subtly grassy and sweet. Their flavor paired well with wild rice although it was overwhelmed by the saltiness of the rice. It wasn't intolerably salty but someone on a low sodium diet should be mindful. Part of the saltiness I believe also came from the smoked bacon but the bacon's fat would bother me more than its saltiness. (3/5) Last but not least, I must have my pasta when dining Italian. The classic Linguine Vongole ($18.00) caught my attention. Piatti used the small-shelled variety commonly known as Manila clams. These were in abundance on my plate tasting absolutely sweet and crunchy and just a little brininess for the 'clammy' flavor. In contrast to the more common renditions featuring a heavy tomato sauce, Piatti used white wine, garlic, calabrian chili and toasted breadcrumbs. The linguine was al dente, light, delicious and satisfying. The simplicity of this dish outweighed the use of heavy cream or fatty cuts of meats. (4/5) Piatti does not like to be regarded as a chain but more as a collection of restaurants. There are 5 locations in CA and I was told that except for a handful of common dishes, every location keeps its individuality by doing its own thing and keeping the menu for the most part separate and distinct from each other. If you're lucky enough to get seated next to the windows, you'll have to view of the lake along with the cute little houses that seem to float right above it. But you don't go to a restaurant *just* for the view. The food is adequate... and on par with expectations. We had the steak tartar (delish), mussels (good), and a seafood main dish (again, no surprises there). The food itself gets a solid 3 star rating. Now let's talk about service. Overall it was reasonably good. But our waitress messed up at the very last minute. My date paid with cash. She asked if he wanted change and he said yes (otherwise it'd have been a 30% tip.... a bit TOO generous). We sat there and waited. And waited. And waited. She never came back. So finally we just got up and started heading out the door. It was only then that she rushed toward us with change in hand. Awkward, wasn't it? read more

We had a great experience yesterday at Piatti's for their Sunday Brunch. It was my mothers 89th birthday and I made reservations through opentable.com. I made a special request for a table at the window. Upon our arrival they were so sweet to my mother and even brought all of us over a nice glass of champagne. The food was yummy. There were 4 of us and we ordered a total of 7 items and everything was great. I also enjoyed a cucumber gimlet. Very refreshing. At a later date I need to make a list of everything that we ate. The menu for brunch is extensive and includes a lot of local grown fruits and vegetables. Also their full lunch menu is an option for brunch as well. As I said I was very impressed with the service. When our bill arrived they had taken off the cost of my mothers lunch, dessert, and drink which added up to $45.00. Totally unexpected on their part and real nice gift for my mother. Another reason to love Marin County. So what does the credit card remember? A small bowl of chef's soup, a chopped salad, one of the best cioppinos on the planet (clams, prawns, sambuca tomato broth, garlic, and calabrian chili, with a grilled slice of bread in the middle), a chocolate cake (like a warm, soft, ultra-rich chocolate cupcake), a glass of pinot grigio and 2 glasses of Piatti Reserve chardonnay, for $71.82 + tip. And what do I remember? Looking out on this cove attached to Richardson Bay, blue sky and Mt. Tamalpais overhead, all-glass condos and apartments with private docks reminding me of Foster City, flocks of Canadian geese landing on the water, swimming to a nearby beach, and sunning themselves while their stragglers regrouped with them. Tranquility and joy. The restaurant is expanding, but there was no construction going on Sunday, and they are definitely open. Open as in open for business, and open as in an unobstructed view of water, sky, and wild birds. read more

Piatti's is worth a try, but there are better restaurants in Marin. The mediocre food is made up for somewhat by the excellent views and the great service. I ordered the salmon and it came out cold. Thankfully they quickly replaced it with a new piece of salmon that was well cooked and I enjoyed my dish. Our waiter was very attentive to all of our needs. The atmosphere was pleasant where we can have a good conversation and the restaurant was bustling with activity and almost all of their tables were filled. The view of the slough from our table was awesome. In fact, we took a walk while we were waiting for our dishes outside along the water path. Very cool. I was there for a large family event and everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes. Our table was clean, our silverware was clean, and all the dishes had a nice presentation. In conclusion, I will likely return the Piatti but I'm not rushing back. read more

5 stars to counter the less stellar reviews, as this place is a gem. The brunch is a classic affair with plenty of options, with views of a tranquil pond/lagoon. Awesome, professional service that was friendly but not too inquisitive. We came late, and it does seem they serve brunch quite late... which is good for those couples that like to celebrate the morning in their own way, in their own time. =) My benedict was awesome, they didn't hesitate when I asked to sub fries for potatoes... I know I know. Not so healthy. But it's a benedict. come on. The fruit plate was divine... all beauitfully arranged in season fruit. My wifes scrambled eggs and polenta was excellent. I always order a wee bit too much when I try a new place... their cup of the minestrone was delicious, traditional -- fantastic. Their lunch / dinner menus are excellent as well, as is the bar. This place has become quite the little spot for us. =) Management, service, kitchen - it's the whole package that will soon enter Marin's "go to" book. Marin Joe's, Buckeye Roadhouse, and Piatti. =) One of the best bloody mary's I have had in awhile. Actually two of the best, and the mimosa was obviously fresh OJ. Afterwards, we took a hike around Richardson Bay and ended up doing a 6 mile adventure.... so don't hesitate to load up at brunch, because the bay trail is right out the back door and you can work it off. read more

We had driven by this place dozens of times but never ate here until recently when we were stuck in a traffic jam on 101 and decided to take a break at the closest restaurant. Well, an evening of traffic lemons turned into lemonaide here with excellent service, awesome salmon, to die for butternut squash and overall a terrific experience that hit the spot. We will be back for more as we regularly traverse Marin to and fro silicon valley to Sonoma county. read more

My husband and I made a reservation for a Saturday night dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Although the restaurant was a bit noisy and crowded, we had a very nice waiter and our food was lovely. The fresh tomato appetizer - straight from the garden flavor! The linguini with clams, and chicken paillard were cooked to perfection. The sauces were quite wonderful as well. I like to cook and am most often underwhelmed when dining out. So nice to find something so good and local. We will most certainly be back! read more

A disgrace to Italy. If a true Italian chef knew what they're serving here in their name they would shudder. Sadly the patrons don't know any better as most have nothing good to compare it to. Over priced sub standard food made by Hispanic immigrants who have had zero training in Italian dishes made the authentic way. read more

Food and drinks great, but our server could not care less. Did not point out children's menu on back of coloring sheet. Came to the table and asked if we had any questions about the menu. I asked her about the specials and she indicated they were "right there on the table." I might add that we were a party of 7, and when we sat down there was like a scattered array of menus spread out throughout the table: 4 dinner menus 3 cocktail/wine menus 2(!) small leaflets with the specials that none of us had seen/realized were there. She NEVER came and asked how the meal was. For a 7 top, you MIGHT want to be a tad more customer service oriented. I made a pretty simple request that my salmon entree not have any butter in it, and told her no aioli. She said "well there has to be some sort of cooking fat used." Um. Yeah I realize that, I cook. Olive oil is fine. Apparently since I said to nix the aioli, she decided I didn't need the salsa verde either. I tasted my sister's..it was delicious..not that she ever came back so I could ask for some. Meh, like I said food is great and it's convenient/right off the freeway but service can make or break the experience.
