This place continues to offer great Portuguese egg tarts. $2 for one now. I went to pick some up yesterday. It was so fresh. The egg was just so smooth. Not too sweet and not oily. They offered other items as well. Their bao/buns were also very fresh.. I came when they just finished with the baos. I got some pork & veggies ones & bbq pork. It was $2 for one as well. Pretty good. Note. Didn't get to browse the shop. Ordered at the door. Customer service was great. Telephone service was great Parking avail
Parking: Super easy with plaza parking lot. Interior: They were taking orders at the door with menu posted outside. Wait Time: line was maybe 4-5ppl long so took a few minutes. Order was packed immediately so overall it's a quick pick up. Items Order: 9/10 Egg tarts $1.7 (2024)- Custard was bomb, not too sweet. Phu's Bakery is no-frills. They display their pastries at the window, and you may order at the door in front of a foldable table. We ordered two dozen egg tarts (that were kept warm) and two pork sung rolls, and paid cash. Both the egg tarts and pork sung rolls were delicious. The egg tarts were a hit at our gathering, and the pork sung rolls were a fantastic snack. Highly recommend! The parking lot is a bit busy with nearby food and beverage businesses, but doable!
My goodness! I am in love with Phu's Bakery Portuguese egg tarts! It is really one of the best egg tarts I have ever tried. The crust is flaky and buttery. The custard is creamy, silky, light, and has the perfect texture When I got them, they were warm and very fresh. The first bite was like an explosion of flavor in my mouth. They were irresistible! I also tried hot dog bun without cheese. It was savory and fresh. Their durian biscuit was sweet and creamy. They don't allow entry to the store. You have to order from outside. The service was fast. The bakery is located at Vikon Center. There were plenty of parking spots shared with other businesses. Definitely,I will be back.
Definitely a hidden gem I stumbled across a couple years ago. It's a small, walk-up style bakery, no dine-in, just a window where you place your order after checking out the display of baked goods. I've tried some of their breads, which were decent, but nothing too special. What really stands out here are the egg tarts. They're legit flaky, custardy , and honestly better than what I've had at a lot of dim sum spots. Whenever I'm heading to a party or visiting friends, I'll often grab a box to bring as a gift. Just a heads up they're pretty much cash only, so come prepared.
$20 min credit card charge & $2 Portuguese egg tart. If you don't have cash, you better buy 10 egg tarts lol! The price is quite unbeatable and the egg tart itself is so flaky and warm. You must eat them while they're freshly out of the oven / bakery because they don't sit well after a while. I bought half a dozen so I could save one for the morning and it felt apart but I still ate it, it wasn't as good as when I had it fresh/warm. The bakery shop is old style and it's not for sitting down but they do have a parking lot. Service was fast.

When you come in, they don't let you inside and you order at the door. All of their baked goods are lined up in front of their window. Their popular tarts go for $2 each. I bought four and they were served hot. The pastries were flaky and the custard was pretty egg-forward. It's OK (3 stars) for me because I prefer the dessert with a little more sweetness. Being able to get hot and fresh Portuguese egg tarts is nice and, if you're looking for egg tarts, then you should check it out; however, their sweetness level isn't what I prefer.
I've been searching for a local bakery specializing in egg tarts and other Chinese pastries, and my wife, who is a very picky eater when it comes to sweets, was impressed with the pineapple biscuit, wife cake, and egg tarts. Phu's Bakery is located in the Vikon Center, which is in the same plaza as Tantawan Thai Kitchen. It is to-go only. They accept cash, credit, and debit cards with a $20 minimum, as well as Zelle. Their Portuguese-style egg tarts are perfectly sweet and creamy with a flaky crust, reminding me of the ones we had in Macau. The Wife Cake is also nice and flaky with a sweet center, and I enjoyed the pineapple biscuit as well, but my favorite was the egg tarts and wife cake. Prices aren't listed, but for 2 egg tarts, pineapple biscuit, wedding cake, and red bean cake, our total was $11.25. We will definitely be back for more of their delicious cakes and pastries.
One of my go to bakeries to buy egg tart! In the morning it's so warm and fresh. Since covid, they have not let customers into the store. Most breads are available on display. Some are in the back but written on the menu at the door. There is a curtain that you order and pick up from. Her cash register is still inside though haha so she runs back and forth. Bring cash as there is a $20 spend minimum for credit card use. We always get their egg tarts and it's become a famous shop for egg tarts in the SGV. So warm flaky custardy and slightly sweet. Custard is super eggy and there's nice color on the outside. Breads and buns are on par with the other Chinese bakeries and they do a great job with speciality traditional pastries and bakery products. The owner is running a business not a run club so she may seem a bit rude out front but it's just her RBF. Quick and efficient. There are also no public restroom!
we have been coming here for years for our custard egg tarts, even though it's a little bit pricey it's definitely worth it. The Portuguese egg tarts here are absolutely delicious. normally whenever we have a family gathering, I always buy these lovely desserts after lunch to bring with me. today, I went early in the morning when they first opened and the egg tarts were still fresh and warm. They used to sell out earlier in the day, but I guess business has been great over the years that now, they continually keep baking egg tarts until they close. The lady is very nice at the door. She asks what you want and reconfirms before she charges you. Service is pretty quick. Doesn't take longer than 5 to 10 minutes when you're picking up your baked goods. as long as you purchase over $20-$25 you can use a credit card otherwise make sure you bring cash.
Whenever I'm in the area, stopping by for their egg tarts is a must! They still operate "COVID-style," with orders taken outside the shop--which I don't mind at all since the service is quick and efficient. Just a heads-up: once items sell out for the day, they don't restock--so go early if you want the full selection! The egg tarts are incredibly well made and still taste amazing the next day after a quick reheat in the air fryer. Their pineapple buns are also a favorite, but they were sold out during my last visit. If you're ever nearby, definitely check out this gem of a bakery!
On our egg tart tour, we visited Pau's Bakery to try their Portuguese egg tarts at $2 each. Service was fast and line not long as you order at the window and take it to go. Taste wise, the egg tart had authentic flavor with flaky crust and creamy filling creamy, but didn't knock it out of the park (more 3.5 stars). If you're in the area, the eggs are good to take home as affordable treats. There were other pastry and bread available here, but they didn't stand out to the freshly made egg tarts.
I came here because this bakery is known for their Portuguese egg tarts, but honestly I was disappointed. The crust wasn't flaky at all -- instead of being light and layered, it tasted oily and dense, more like underbaked dough. On the other hand, their breads were much better. I tried the coconut cream bun, which was soft and fluffy with a nice aroma, though a little too sweet for me. I also picked up the old-fashioned sponge cake, which was very airy and eggy, but again, heavier on the sweetness. It's surprising that the egg tarts, which they are famous for, didn't live up to the reputation. The breads were enjoyable, but I wish the pastries matched the same level.

My second favorite PORTUGUESE EGG TARTS ! This place is comparable to Jim's Bakery in Monterey Park, but on the less sweeter side and for like 40 cent less ! Perfect for those family gatherings (them aunties & uncles who don't like sweet things). I usually call in for my order since I always order dozens and they have it ready within the hour. There are times where I didn't have time to call and just walk up and only have to wait like 15-20 mins for a hot batch that just came out. Story time: while I'm waiting for my order to be ready, I went to the sugar cane store to order some drinks to kill time. The owner there told me the owner of Phu use to work at Jim's lol. No wonder why like both Portuguese Egg Tarts! Overall, give this place a try ! read more

Hands down the best egg tart I have ever tasted! Perfect blend of texture, flavor and structure. The delicate crust is flaky, buttery and perfectly crisp. The filling - wow, just wow. I happen to find this spot because I saw a post on TikTok and I purchased about 40 dollars worth of pastries and it turns out none of it is good. When I first got there I want to get some durian pastry for my aunt so I asked the lady how many do I have to buy in order for her to put them in a box and she said 8 so I got 8. got 8 pieces of Duran pastry and it's 20 dollars and the lady was very sneaky. 6 should fit the box but I guess her business is so slow so she's trying to sell them whenever she gets a chance. Durian pastry does not have durian taste and it's a waste of money and her other breads I would not say it's horrible and definitely not good read more
Phu's bakery is one of two bakeries in the area that I love going to for Portuguese egg tarts. I always call ahead to make sure they aren't sold out before I head over. Super easy finding parking since they share a big parking lot with the other shops in the plaza. They don't allow you to go into the store so all transactions are done at the door. I got 6 Portuguese egg tarts for $10.51, which is quite a steal. They were still warm in the box when I got them. I noticed they changed the recipe a bit because the crust tastes denser compared to before. I do like how the filling isn't very sweet though. Delicious bakery in an unassuming strip mall. Their egg tarts are a hit. Dare I say that their egg tarts are just as good as the famous Golden Gate Bakery in San Francisco?! I visited Phu's about a month ago on a Saturday morning, got there around opening time and by the time I left, a small line formed. Unfortunately, you can't go inside the bakery. You tell the staff what you want and they'll get it for you. Since I don't know what they sell, I ended up buying 6 egg tarts and 2 taro balls (wrapped in plastic). The egg tarts came straight from the oven as they were hot in the box and I ate one immediately as I got into the car. Their crispy/flaky crust is what I enjoy most about their egg tarts. The taro balls were good too as they weren't too sweet. Prices aren't really posted any where (or I didn't see it) so you may need to "trust" their judgment or ask for clarification. I was charged $1.75 each for the egg tarts and the taro balls were $2.50 each based on the total. Bring cash as I'm unclear if they accept credit cards (info not posted). What's up: After chowing down on some yummy Thai food at Tantawan nearby, we stopped by the bakery to grab dessert! Parking: Located at Vikon Center, parking is shared among the nearby businesses. Since we were already here for Tantawan, it was a quick walk over. Environment: They're still following Covid precautions so it's more of a walk up and order at the table instead of going inside the bakery. That means you only get to look at the items through the window and you'll see a list of items that they offer on the menu posted on the wall. No price is listed for the items so unless you ask the staff, you're kinda going in blind. There is a $20 minimum for credit/debit cards. And if you want additional boxes, there's an extra charge for that too. What was ordered: - Portuguese Egg Tart (warm and not too sweet) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. Then more recently I came on a Sunday morning and they still had some! They're not the best I've had but they hit the spot and are priced reasonably. My parents brought me some Portuguese egg tarts from this shop and they are delicious! They came hot and fresh from the oven, very flaky, not too sweet, and super soft custard. I think it's some of the best I've had and I've also visited Macau to try some Portuguese tarts there : ) Would recommend! read more

Phu's Bakery is located in a strip mall called The Vikron Center with numerous of Asian businesses. Phu's Bakery is well known for their Portuguese egg tarts. I have had their Portuguese egg tarts many times but have never actually visited their store physically (I've been so lucky for family and friends that have always brought me back a few upon this visit) until last Thursday. After my husband parked, we walked over to this bakery. Currently this bakery does not allow people inside and so you have to order right at the entrance (with a clear plastic board divided between you and the employee taking your order on the other side). We ended up purchasing 2 Portuguese Egg Tart, $1.25 each. I do want to mention that other Yelp members recent reviews stated that it cost $1.75 per egg tart but the employee who helped us only charged us $1.25 each (I gave her exactly $2.50 cash so I know I heard her correctly). Just wanted to make mention for those in case I was mistakenly charged wrong. It is nice to have these Portuguese tarts freshly warmed from the oven. The egg tart part has the perfect balance of custard and sweetness. The tart is nice and flakey and melts in your mouth. The marriage of it all is perfect and would have to say that Phu's Bakery has the best Portuguese tart that I have ever had (outside of Macau and Portugal). Please note that there is a minimum of $20 for credit card transactions. If you don't think you will spend that much then make sure to have cash on hand. read more

An okay Chinese bakery. Egg tarts aren't the most flakiest or silkiest, but they'll still satisfy egg tart cravings. The bread for the BBQ pork buns is pillow-soft but a bit skimpy on the bun filling. Taro biscuit could've been more flavorful. Currently outdoor window ordering only; there's a list of menu items next to the cashier desk. Plentiful lot parking. Came by after hearing about the Portuguese Egg Tarts! We ordered a dozen for $21 ($1.75 each) as I was giving some to my brother to take home. They came out warm and we tried them once we got home. The custard is really creamy and smooth and not too sweet, though I wanted it a little sweeter. It felt a bit lacking in flavor. The crust was flaky, buttery and light. Phu's Bakery has been around in SGV for a long time now. Located in South El Monte, it's a tiny bakery shop that's known for their delicious and fresh Portuguese egg tarts. I would say these are comparable to SF's famous Golden Gate Bakery, BUT they are Portuguese instead of Hong Kong. With more dependable hours and reasonable prices, it's easier to grab a hold on one of these golden gems since the SF ones seem so unattainable. They make the egg tarts fresh every day and literally all day! Call ahead and put in an order to avoid waiting there when they're in between batches. Come early right when they open to be the first to snag the first fresh batch! Fresh and hot from the oven. So delicious!! Parking available Store: small bakery, order from outside, they have a table set up blocking front door with plastic hanging. (Covid style) it is small inside so this works. Just have to look thru window to see offerings. Egg tarts: if you love light flaky crust. This is definitely it! I like my custard a little bit sweeter than they make it here. Still very good, served warm. It tasted better for me the next day- cold, less flaky. 4/5 Cha sui bao- I was hungry so orders this- the meat had a good flavor and despite lower meat to bread ratio, still tasted great. Love their egg tarts! Love their egg tarts! Love their egg tarts! They are so addictive and delicious. The only con is they are a bit far so I cannot get it so often and they are not healthy either. But they taste heavenly. Some people may like the traditional egg tarts because they are more buttery crust filled with creamy sweet custard...but I like Portuguese egg tarts (Po Tat) as they are more milky custard flavor and soft so this one is perfect for me. read more

Let's talk about what they are know for: Portuguese egg tarts! 10/10 You may ask what's so special? - Crust is light and flaky (when you give your tart a squeeze can hear that crispy sound of goodness) - Custard filling is not too sweet and the perfect creamy consistency - Baked until a slightly browned top - Taste the best when it is served hot from the oven (so toast these babies up for a little bit before chowing down with a nice cup of coffee!) What other stuff do they have? It's a Chinese bakery so you got your typical buns, some steamed buns, cake rolls, and sponge cakes. But they don't sell birthday cakes! So how about the service? You can't go in to browse through the store as it is still closed off with this protective covering. This place has great egg tarts! As of 2023, it costs 1.75 per egg tart, which is still pretty good compared to other places. You order from the front, as the rest of the store is blocked off. The past few times we ordered, there was only a short wait since it was random time on a weekday. The egg tarts are so good when they're warm and fresh. It smells so good that even my parents, being the stereotypical Asian parents that don't really compliment anything, said it smells really good. No worries if you order too many and it gets cold; pop them in the toaster oven for a few minutes. The taro pastry was okay but honestly did not taste like much. The coconut cream bun was also really good but I don't recommend the bolo bun. We ordered from here 3 times within 2 weeks, so that might be an indication of how much we like this place. read more

Calling it a Portuguese egg tart is quite misleading. If you're expecting it to taste like Portugal's iconic treat, this is not it. Don't get me wrong, it tastes good, better than other egg tarts I have had, but that's what they are: egg tarts- not the Portuguese variety. All transactions are handled outside. They have a table barring the entrance and the pastries are visible from the glass windows. If you're not a regular like me, you'll end up pointing at the pastry that you fancy. The red bean bun was dry and tasted stale. The Phoenix cookies smelled strongly like lard. And I unwittingly chose a roll with pork floss. I am not too fond of pork floss. read more

Stopped by for some fresh portuguese egg tarts. 6 egg tarts for $10.51 so about $1.75 each. There is a menu taped on the window but there were no prices listed. Their portuguese egg tarts were made fresh and very warm when I received it. Their filling is delicious creamy and not too sweet. Since my previous visit, I did realize a difference in the crust as it's more thicker and not as light. read more
Hands down, one of the best egg tarts in sgv! (on par with jim's) The portuguese egg tarts are thicccc, creamy, and perfectly sweet. Crust is flaky. Affordable price at around $1.50 per. Top notch quality, big size, lots of custard filling. If you come late, they may not have it anymore! Bread is just ok. Lots selection but nothing too special. They take card with minimum of $20. Otherwise make sure to bring cash. read more
