One of my favorite bakeries to get Portuguese egg tarts! I put a lot of my family and friends onto the egg tarts here and they all love it as much as I do. The egg tarts are made with a creamy filling while the layers of crust is crispy, I highly recommend eating it when it's warm, it tastes so good! Phu's also sells various bakery items, including sponge cakes, they're so soft and fluffy! I love supporting this local bakery. Keep in mind, they don't allow customers to walk into the store, they have a table outside where you can order and pay and they'll bring out your goodies to you. My second favorite PORTUGUESE EGG TARTS ! This place is comparable to Jim's Bakery in Monterey Park, but on the less sweeter side and for like 40 cent less ! Perfect for those family gatherings (them aunties & uncles who don't like sweet things). I usually call in for my order since I always order dozens and they have it ready within the hour. There are times where I didn't have time to call and just walk up and only have to wait like 15-20 mins for a hot batch that just came out. Story time: while I'm waiting for my order to be ready, I went to the sugar cane store to order some drinks to kill time. The owner there told me the owner of Phu use to work at Jim's lol. 5.0 stars for Phu's Their Portuguese Egg Tarts are the best in all of SoCal in my opinion!!! The crust is perfectly flakey and the custard is thick, creamy, eggy (in a good way) and not too sweet. Plus, they make them fresh, and mine were still warm when I got them so I ate one right away before I even ate my lunch. Phu's bakery is one of two bakeries in the area that I love going to for Portuguese egg tarts. I always call ahead to make sure they aren't sold out before I head over. Super easy finding parking since they share a big parking lot with the other shops in the plaza. They don't allow you to go into the store so all transactions are done at the door. I got 6 Portuguese egg tarts for $10.51, which is quite a steal. They were still warm in the box when I got them. I noticed they changed the recipe a bit because the crust tastes denser compared to before. I do like how the filling isn't very sweet though. Delicious bakery in an unassuming strip mall. Their egg tarts are a hit. Dare I say that their egg tarts are just as good as the famous Golden Gate Bakery in San Francisco?! I visited Phu's about a month ago on a Saturday morning, got there around opening time and by the time I left, a small line formed. Unfortunately, you can't go inside the bakery. You tell the staff what you want and they'll get it for you. Since I don't know what they sell, I ended up buying 6 egg tarts and 2 taro balls (wrapped in plastic). The egg tarts came straight from the oven as they were hot in the box and I ate one immediately as I got into the car. Their crispy/flaky crust is what I enjoy most about their egg tarts. The taro balls were good too as they weren't too sweet. Prices aren't really posted any where (or I didn't see it) so you may need to "trust" their judgment or ask for clarification. I was charged $1.75 each for the egg tarts and the taro balls were $2.50 each based on the total. Bring cash as I'm unclear if they accept credit cards (info not posted). Phu's Bakery is located in a strip mall called The Vikron Center with numerous of Asian businesses. Phu's Bakery is well known for their Portuguese egg tarts. I have had their Portuguese egg tarts many times but have never actually visited their store physically (I've been so lucky for family and friends that have always brought me back a few upon this visit) until last Thursday. After my husband parked, we walked over to this bakery. Currently this bakery does not allow people inside and so you have to order right at the entrance (with a clear plastic board divided between you and the employee taking your order on the other side). We ended up purchasing 2 Portuguese Egg Tart, $1.25 each. I do want to mention that other Yelp members recent reviews stated that it cost $1.75 per egg tart but the employee who helped us only charged us $1.25 each (I gave her exactly $2.50 cash so I know I heard her correctly). Just wanted to make mention for those in case I was mistakenly charged wrong. It is nice to have these Portuguese tarts freshly warmed from the oven. The egg tart part has the perfect balance of custard and sweetness. The tart is nice and flakey and melts in your mouth. The marriage of it all is perfect and would have to say that Phu's Bakery has the best Portuguese tart that I have ever had (outside of Macau and Portugal). Phu's Bakery has been around in SGV for a long time now. Located in South El Monte, it's a tiny bakery shop that's known for their delicious and fresh Portuguese egg tarts. I would say these are comparable to SF's famous Golden Gate Bakery, BUT they are Portuguese instead of Hong Kong. With more dependable hours and reasonable prices, it's easier to grab a hold on one of these golden gems since the SF ones seem so unattainable. After multiple failed trips to come here to get egg tarts, I was finally able to stop into Phu's Bakery. The last couple times I would arrive on their day off and yet I never learned my lesson to check what day they were closed. Luckily, I had their egg tarts previously in the past when a friend had bought them and this time around I was able to buy them myself. They're Portuguese egg tarts are phenomenal. When I came here it was during the week so the parking situation wasn't too bad. I can't imagine on the weekends it being crowded here. Keep in mind everything is cash only and if you do want to use a card has to be at least a $20 minimum charge. They're still enforcing social distancing so you're not able to actually step inside but you order at the door and they'll run and get your items and they'll hand it to you. The past few times we ordered, there was only a short wait since it was random time on a weekday. The egg tarts are so good when they're warm and fresh. It smells so good that even my parents, being the stereotypical Asian parents that don't really compliment anything, said it smells really good. No worries if you order too many and it gets cold; pop them in the toaster oven for a few minutes. The taro pastry was okay but honestly did not taste like much. The coconut cream bun was also really good but I don't recommend the bolo bun. We ordered from here 3 times within 2 weeks, so that might be an indication of how much we like this place. read more

Calling it a Portuguese egg tart is quite misleading. If you're expecting it to taste like Portugal's iconic treat, this is not it. Don't get me wrong, it tastes good, better than other egg tarts I have had, but that's what they are: egg tarts- not the Portuguese variety. All transactions are handled outside. This place continues to operate like we're still in COVID. You just order through a small mesh window and they display the other pastries that you can see through the window. From what I could see, it didn't seem like they had much. I asked for 3 x 1/2 dozen orders for my friends and me. I expected those would be packed in a nice cardboard box, but the guy told me boxes are only if I ordered 8 or more. I told him they were gifts, so he only packed half for my BD friend, and the other two orders were placed in regular Styrofoam boxes. Whatever, it seemed unnecessarily stingy.
