My grandparents use to take me here so I have very fond memories. As I have my own family now, I continue to visit here. Today was for the fresh banh bao and for mooncakes. The space is small but service is intimate like shopping at a cousin's shop. If you don't know what to get, ask and they can recommend.
Teochow owned bakery nestled in a busy plaza in San Gabriel! Came here since we needed a variety of items for our Tea Ceremony/Wedding. They had everything ranging from Taro Buns, Lao Po Bings, Peanut Candies, and Dragon-Phoenix Candles. I especially liked their meat buns. They also had a bunch of misc wedding related items like double happiness stickers and nice decorative boxes for the Lao Po Bings. The owner was super nice and helpful on helping to get everything ordered and arranged. Ok to preorder but he prefers you come in person vs doing it over the phone. Usually at least a week ahead notice. Buns are usually fresh when they first open for the morning, or around 12 when a new batch of buns are made. Bakery is located on the side of the building facing the street so parking is limited to the street. Otherwise, you have to park in the parking lot located on opposite ends of the building and walk over. Can get crowded since lots of restaurants in the area.
Best Banh Bao (meat, egg and Chinese sausage inside) in all of SGV area. IMO, it's even better than Yummy Bao in OC. The filling is always generous and delicious. It's such a great afternoon/midday snack or if you're like me and lazy to cook in the morning- have it for breakfast. Our family buy about 6 at a time and it's great! When I heat it up in the microwave in put a wet paper towel over it. It helps to get the bun moist again. And the service is great! The guy in the front is always nice! Service is fast and easy. We've been coming here for many years and it's our weekly rotation of food. At $3.50/bun. You truly can't buy anything healthy for that price these days.
We stumbled upon this little bakery after having lunch next door. I noticed the display case had rows of colorful baos on display, and that was enough to get my curiosity. Inside is small. There are no seats, have mostly packaged foods and whatever is inside the glass case. Our first time, we tried their taro, custard and mung bean baos. A quick heat-up under a wet paper towel in the microwave and they came out warm and soft with a sweet filling. Second visit, I got 4 custard, 2 taro and 2 red bean, and I'm sure these will be equally good like the first time. According to the owner, these will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks or much kk her in the freezer. Just steam them or try the microwave method to get that soft, pillowy texture again. Royal Bakery appears to be a small family run business, and their baos are quite good. I haven't tried their other sweet or savory buns yet, and that's just a good reason for me to go back again.

Did what he said and off course idiot me bought old stale bakery here first and last . If you like not fresh bakery come here

Pretty sure the owner helped us out and he definitely gave us a good experience! It was a little less than $3 a Banh Bao! I am in love! Coming back soon for sure
I only got to try the two sweet baos this trip. Previously my friend has gotten us the meat bao for a road trip and those are pretty heavy aka loaded with a pretty compact ball of meat and egg. They're not bad. The green sweet bao has mung bean inside. The first bite was pretty dry in my opinion as it got stuck on the top of my mouth and i couldn't even chew it (I had to manually unstuck it). After that you encounter a generous amount of yellow bean paste inside which is about a 4/5 in sweetness for me. It was warm as they had just made them. The dough isn't the glutenny kind that stretches. It was more like crumbly bread type. Mung bean and taro baos now $1.25. I can't say I am a fan of the baos but wanted to share some pictures and current price which is still not bad.
I want to give a shout out to Royal Bakery because they have some delicious banh bao. I bought one of the OG pork baos to snack on while we waited for our table at dim sum. It was so good! I ended up going back to buy a dozen of the pork and one of each of the colorful ones to bring back home to SJ. The green one, which was mung bean, was SOOO good. I regret not buying more and I'm definitely gonna make a detour just to buy more of their mung bean banh bao. Bonus points- they accept card! I know a lot of mom and pop shops don't accept cards so this was very cool because I try my best not to carry cash due to safety concerns. Make sure you tip to cover their CC fees or bring cash.
The 3 different small baos are very good. They are also $1 each. Amazingly cheap for such good quality. I also tried their Viet style chicken bao and that was bomb dot com too. The secret is their dough, which doesn't crumble when you bite into it.
I was reading everyone's enthusiastic reviews about Royal Bakery's Lunar New Year goods, so I decided to stop by a few days ago! I specifically wanted to try the SOFT SESAME CANDY WITH PEANUT (8.5/10). When I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon, about 7 people were waiting in line. All the customers were middle-aged Asians who spoke Vietnamese/Chinese/etc so I knew this place was legit. One box of Soft Sesame Candy (pictured here--I ate a few pieces already lol oops) is $12. The candy is nice and soft with a slightly gelatinous texture. It isn't too sweet, which I appreciate. I also love the little bits of peanut inside. Overall, I enjoy this candy--and on the plus side, I only need to eat a small piece to feel satisfied, which is great for my health! The employees were pretty good about only allowing 4 customers in at a time, for social distancing reasons. The man at the cash register was very friendly. There is a large parking lot nearby, and a few more large parking lots on the same block, so you definitely have your parking options, especially if you go at a down time like a weekday afternoon.

Small mom and pop type bakery that specializes baos and other specialty baked goods and confections. The place has some small shop charm located in a busy strip mall. The folks here were really friendly as I looked through their confections. I ultimately just got a few baos, but would love to come back and try some of their other goods. It has been a while since I last visited. Today I came in to buy some jumbo pork buns. I paid with cash. I have yet to explore other flavors such as sweet custard buns, sweet taro buns, etc. I just kept sticking to jumbo pork buns. These are big buns too. Easy to grab and eat when you're in a hurry. This bakery has been opened for a long time. Parking in this plaza can be challenging during rush hours. read more
My dear friend recommended me to Royal Bakery at Empire Commercial Center in Rosemead. Its store front faces Valley Blvd. Free parking on both sides of the center. Open Mondays through Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. Small bakery known for their jumbo pork buns. They also have an assortment of pastries with different fillings of red bean, mung bean, durian, taro, lotus, custard and more. Freshly made candies such as peanut candy, white sesame candy, and custard apple candy are available for purchase. The owner was very nice and provided amazing service. Thank you sir! He heated up one bun for me to try. It was very delicious. White bun was perfectly warm and pillowy soft with savory and flavorful pork filling. Half egg was a surprise and a nice add. I bought 8 more jumbo pork buns along with 1 box of peanut candy (very fresh and tasty). Price per bun was $3.25 which is very reasonable for its freshness and quality. As for the peanut candy, it was a little pricey at $15 per box. Good quality snacks are hard to come by nowadays. I would still buy them again. I was given a free sample of soft sesame candy. It had an oniony taste. I didn't care for it. If you're looking for authentic and tasty buns, pastries, and candies, Royal Bakery has it all. Highly recommend. Worth a visit. read more

Hands down one of the best baos I've tried!! My favorite is their jumbo pork bao. The bao is so fluffy and nicely sweetened on the outside and the inside is filled with pork, sausage, and egg that are perfectly seasoned with a mix of savory/umami and slight sweetness. Because the bao is pretty big and they put in a generous amount of meat inside, I think this could be a substantial snack when you're pretty hungry or even a good light meal. The owner is also super friendly and personable which made the experience even better for me! I will definitely be visiting this place quite often read more
Usually I try to swiftly correct my mistakes, but it took a sweet Yelp friend (thank you Lynette T) who gently and recently called attention to my "bao" ignorance, sadly finding my mistake 4 long years after Royal Bakery abstinence (not by choice). Curses to my All-American white-ness! But better late than never? His signature product I had correctly called a "bao" in my review of 2012. But if I had taken a look at the signs, it was clearly NOT Chinese as I surmised. And the patient, multilingual man behind the counter spoke English, albeit haltingly. I have no idea if it was the same guy as 4 years ago, but his kindness and wonderful, edentulous smile completely disarmed me this time around. "Please, please, please be the same baker," my most desperate thoughts raced inside my head. So what do we really have here? Today, the bakery looks much more modern and cleaner than I remembered. Still tiny, and still sporting just under 20 reviews after all these years (WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUSE GUYS?), this bakery offers a real treasure, Vietnamese baos called Bánh bao thit heo (I know I got it right this time because I sneaked a picture to cover my a**). Those steamed Bánh baos are just as I remembered, still as massive, but mostly because of the generous filling. The steamed bread was delicately sweet and not too thick; the copious filling consisted of finely ground pork and minced water chestnut (for that ever so subtle crunch), just a touch of Chinese sausage, wood ear mushrooms (yum), and a chunk of hard boiled egg. You will have to trust those other Yelpers who are "in the know" as to their authenticity, but you can also trust me when I say, these are delicious and a real bargain. $1.75 buys you one huge, tender, satisfying combination of the most mouth watering steamed bread and flavorful filling known to man (and this wo-man). I am thrilled he is still in business. Let's keep it that way, bao seekers. read more
Before I start yelping away, I'm just grateful that this bakery except credit cards now!! All my visits prior, it was cash only. I always head to Vegas after, so I need the cash for some gambling. This is a must go for me!! before I leave Cali, to pick up their yummy cakes!! ( moon cake) To bring back home to Hawaii. I always get taro and durian. This visit, I notice the prices has gone up for the cakes. It's a treat!! When I eat the taro cake with tea, I'm so happy!! Very happy!! Sometime I regret not buying more. I bought 3 boxes this visit.. :) The taro is 3.50 per cake, 14.00 for box of 4 The Durian is 3.75 per cake, 15.00 for box of 4 There are other flavors, these are my favs!! Besides the cake, the Vietnamese pork bun ( called Manapua back home, in Hawaii) Its soooooo good!! Love the boiled egg and lup chong along with pork and bun. I can eat this everyday!! & Only 1.50 for this bun!! The parking lot can get very busy!! They share the same lot as Banh Mi Che & Cali & many other eateries and shop. This place is a Gem!! Went to this place bought 10 pcs of this bun thought it's good for breakfast since it's quarantined. This morning I steamed and when I look at the bun it was so dry cracking which it's not suppose to . Disappointed another waisted of $20.00 ! This place used to be a very good place to buy meat bun but somehow the quality went down ! read more

Drove all the way at out here from Westminster for the pork buns. Each bun was ONLY $1.75 so we bought 10. Oh my goodness, they are so tasty! Not dry or even soggy at all. Typical quail egg, pork sausage, ground pork filling but somehow it tastes better than any other pork bun. They also had red bean/taro/coconut buns as well ~$1.75 as well. Best Pork Buns (Banh Bao) hands down.... If my mom has to send me down here to ship these back to her then I know these are serious. At $1.50 a piece it's a steal. Wait til you eat one that's fresh out of the steamer. The outer skin is soft and the pork is very tasty. Make sure they have some before you stop by otherwise you might be waiting for awhile until they have a new batch coming out. They also take credit card which is a plus! read more

My guys love big pork bao (steamed buns). Thanks to Yelp buddy, Wendy B's review, I HAD to go check this place out. The hubby- "Oh damn! This $%#^'s good!" High praise from him. #2 Son thought these were the best he's had so far. This bakery is going to be our new go-to for these baos. Can't get them any fresher; right out of the steamers and hot! I've found these elsewhere, mostly at bahn mi places. Where it's questionable as to how long they've been sitting around and they ask you if you want them heated up in the microwave.. Gotta say, it makes a big difference getting them this fresh! The price is $1.75 now. Worth it! Also picked myself up a Lotus Bun as a treat for my next sugar low. That very nice guy behind the counter suggested heating it in the microwave for 30 seconds when I'm ready to eat it. They're pretty big here compared to other places. The jumbo pork buns are amazing! They are soft buns with generous filling of pork with an egg in the center. Sometimes i lay in bed at night thinking about these deliciousness, and so the next day would have to drive the 30-minute drive just to get them. This time, I was smart and got 10 to put some in the freezer. If you are looking for pork buns, Royal bakery is the place to go! Note: they only accept credit cards for purchases of $20 or more. read more
