Com Chien Duong Chau
Jana S.

We finally got here! The owner was very helpful, explained all the dishes, so we could decide. I had one of the Bun (vermicelli noodles) dishes, Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio. This came with a very tasty egg roll on the dish. The rice noodles were tender, the vegetables fresh, and the grilled pork was seasoned perfectly. Not spicy, but very flavorful, and a huge portion. My friend had a fried rice dish-Com Chien Duong Chau. It had lots of shrimp, sausage, roast pork, vegetables, and also a huge portion! We've saved a menu so we can check a few more things off the list. The restaurant is a small storefront, with 6 tables, very pleasant and clean. I'm glad we have a great place in the area for Vietnamese food. We'll be back!

They had far more interesting things on the menu but today I was just craving my go-to: shrimp fried rice & crab rangoon. The shrimp was plump & tasty. It was exactly the flavors I was craving. Very friendly staff, food came out fast & fresh.

Spring Rolls

Amazing food and great service with wonderful explanations. The spring rolls were freshly made and delicious. The Pho Ga was lovely and light with an array of veggie and herb add ins. I will be back.

Lemongrass tofu stir-fry

When you walk in you are always greeted with a smile. The seating is quite close but not so close you cannot walk through. Tables and booths. Very clean and well kept. Your order can be family style or individual. Family style allows you to share tea and big serving bowls of soups. Now for the good stuff. The menu is varied with authentic or Americanized "Asian" stirfry and egg rolls. The Pho is outstanding! My goodness, the flavors of the broth, with added ingredients from chicken and beef to vegetarian. What brings it home are the side dishes of flavor bombs they serve along side: jalapeños, bean sprouts, and Thai basil. Add it to the soup and the noodles seem to envelope it all with an explosion of flavor as you slurp even to the last drop. And grab those last leaves or noodles with your chopsticks. It's worth every bite. I highly recommend Mai Lee, as it is at the top of our all-time favorites list.

Love the new cocktail bar they added. It take away some seating however people can eat at bar too. We ordered cocktails while waiting for our table which took only a few minutes. My husband tried their version of an old-fashioned which used both bourbon and rum!!! It was good but he said definitely a "sipper". They have a full bar and much better wine selection now too. Starters for us were a bowl of wonton soup and the spring rolls. Both were good but rolls a little rubbery to me. The highlight of our meals was charbroiled pork. We are not capable of ordering anything else. Ha. I get 15.04 and he got 15.03 which includes an egg roll. Divine food!! The people who own this place are so friendly. Our waiter was also very nice. Try the Pho Dac Biet along with a mix of hoisin sauce, chili garlic and the chili crisp - this combo was a good replacement for my usual hoisin sauce/sa té combo at pho restaurants. The pork eggrolls had an unusual surprise - fresh sliced mushrooms (in case you were wondering why the crust was darker in hue). We chatted briefly with Jeff, the owner, and learned a ton about the restaurant's history and re-launch. It's a good sized venue, with great lighting and seating plus excellent service. I would dine here again!

I ordered at the counter the 6 piece crab Rangoon, bowl of pho with brisket and a Thai iced tea for dine in. I ordered takeout for my boyfriend the spicy combination lo mein and crab Rangoon. My food was served piping hot and the Thai iced tea was so refreshing! Crab Rangoon were large and enough to share. The pho was delicious; nicely spiced and not salty. I haven't had pho with brisket before and I liked the flavor. Large bowl led to a take home container. I like the bright colors and sleek design of the restaurant. There are many tables and it was ok to pull some together for our group of seven ladies. Attentive staff member kept checking if our group needed anything. I'll definitely come back to DD Mau!

We phone it in from the road and pick it up hot and fresh before we even get home. Frankly, it's all we really want when we don't know what to eat (travel or not). We dine at plenty of other Vietnamese restaurants (along with Thai, Korean, Chinese and Taiwanese) so I believe we're qualified to compare St. Louis' Asian offerings. While DD might not have the largest menu, it's a variety of well-executed favorites: beef, chicken and vegan pho, banh mi sandwiches, fresh springs rolls (the shrimp rolls are excellent), crispy Vietnamese egg rolls, fried rice, vermicelli bowls with a choice of protein and sauces, and more. Something for everyone. Well-seasoned and a lot of it. I'm partial to the pho combo with a surprising amount of meat. My wife is stuck on the vermicelli bowls and vegan lemon grass soup. Prices are very reasonable, too. We've been fans of DD since they opened in Old Dwntwn Webster about eight years ago and are delighted with the new location on Big Bend near Webster U. Big, bright, contemporary space. Great for families. And a good place for kids to try their first Vietnamese food. Parking can be challenging in their small lot but there's usually plenty of street and other nearby lots across Big Bend. Try it. Enjoy.
