My first time here and wow it was horrible food. I have never smelled Chinese food this bad and tiny pieces of vegetable and sauce was not spicy and not sweet. Bizarre poor quality for this part of time. Make this one a hard pass. read more

I ate here for the first and last time yesterday. I had plain fried rice. I didn't know it did have egg. The rice was tasteless. I had chicken lo Mein. I checked this China King location out from reading the various Yelp reviews, since I was in the neighborhood, why not check them out. Ohh what a horrific mistake!!! They have a nice selection of lunch specials for a reasonable price. The problem with this location is the cleanliness, preparation of food and taste of the food. So there is a young girl (child) whom works the counter. She takes your order, handles the cash and also assist in the meal prep. First problem is the restaurant is not as clean as reported in other Yelp reviews. The restaurant doesn't keep the tables and chairs clean. Second, I have a problem with restaurants where the kitchen staff smokes in the kitchen where food is prepped and prepared. Third problem is hygiene etiquette. So the young girl had a consistent cough, at least she covered her cough but it was with her hand, the same hand in which she used to open the bags for appetizers instead of shaking the bags open. Also, as a customer I shouldn't have to tell you after handling money and coughing in your hand to wash your hands. Now to the food. The general tso's chicken was crispy with a nice sauce. The problem is with the fowl, odd, chicken texture. Soo bad in fact that I literally couldn't eat the chicken. Now moving on to the crab rangoon, it's on the sweet side in which I prefer, was fine. The fried rice was literally just ok. If it weren't for the left over general tso's sauce in the container this fried rice would have been bland. It's surprisingly how disappointing this Chinese food restaurant is with all the competition up and down Olive in University City. I love a good hole-in-the-wall spot but not this spot. read more

Ordered online and Grubhub delivered. Grubhub did a fine job. Noticed half my order was missing. Called China King and they told me they were out of the thing I ordered. When I complained that people were here waiting for their order and that maybe they should have called and let us know, so we could order something else, the person on the phone could care less. Told her we wouldn't be ordering from them anymore... they said "ok"! I'm not one to complain but when restaurants don't care, then I don't care to spend my money with them and I encourage others to go elsewhere also! read more

I actually really liked my Szechuan chicken combo. Flavorful and very tender meat. It comes with a choice of crab Rangoon or spring roll and a side of rice. Great portions and good flavor. My boyfriends orange chicken apparently lacked some flavor and would recommend a higher spicy factor. I will definitely come back and try another dish! read more

I found this place because my normal drop by spot has not figured out how to adequately operate under covid restrictions. China King answered the phone quickly and my food was ready in minutes. The taste was pretty good. Not saturated in soy sauce or greasy. I just may have found my new takeout Chinese restaurant. read more

Fried choices are crispy not oily. Flavors are layered, not one note . Veggies and proteins are chopped uniform size. You can't come in expecting haute cuisine. This is undoubtedly Americanized Chinese style food. But it is tasty and well prepared and a nice departure from burgers and fries. read more

I ordered Special fried rice with egg foo young gravy. Which was $4.99 for the rice and $1.00 for gravy to be added into the box. I'm very DISAPPOINTED that there is no bean sprouts or green peppers in the order. And the gravy was like pork chop gravy. I was going to give it two stars but as I am writing this review and eating what seems to leftovers(I actually saw him cooking in the back after I ordered)I dropped it to one star. I should have gone down the street just a few blocks further. The young lady that took my order was sort of nice but it looked as though she was trying to finish some homework on her laptop. This has got to be the best kept secret in St.Louis history. I don't care what you buy its hot. I mean chicken extra hot. So I eat here twice a week. Normally while I run around and do chores. So I can drive over 4 miles to stores I like. My food still hot. I can then switch stores like Sam's Or Walmart come back to grab a bite my food still extremely hot. The husband and I are amazed at how the sweet & sour chicken does not get soggy easy. (Even with the sauce on the chicken.) The pot stickers same thing. Chrispy for hours not minutes. I guess this why this restaurant is king. Everything is delicious and securely packed so you dont spill. Everything is fully cooked to perfection. And the service is 5 star worthy. Which is nice because they get five stars from me. Im helplessly addictive to this. Have you ever had rice perfectly cooked each and everytime. The head cook here is consistent. University City has an array of options when it comes to Chinese food, from fancy to hole in the wall. This is definitely a hole in the wall. I live right around the corner, so I know it's a safe area, but for people not from the area, please don't be turned off by the location. This is a small, family owned establishment. I'm pretty positive it is literally ran by only the family, and all their kids are in the dining room playing. This may be a turn off to some as well, but I love it and think it's awesome. It's a quick place, they do have places to sit, but I would suggest take out as preferable. The inside isn't spotless, but the kitchen looks clean and you can see them cooking. It's super convenient to order online, and they are very efficient. They have a ton of options to choose from. Their food isn't gourmet by any means, but for quick Chinese take out, it's perfect. My only complaint is the fried rice is lacking in flavor! But don't be turned off, there's plenty of other delicious options. If you're looking for a quick Chinese staple to depend on, this is a good option. read more

I just moved to U-City and was disappointed in all the chinese take out until I found this little place! I got to try their Sesame Chicken, General Tsos Chicken, Mongolian beef, fried rice, and egg rolls. The chicken is fantastic and not tough at all. The general tso and Mongolian are on the sweeter side. They have combination plates which are very affordable! The only downside is they don't do delivery but it is well worth the ride over for some take out. read more

I have been ordering from China King during the pandemic. Grub Hub is their delivery partner. The food is pretty good. I have found the chicken egg rolls and chicken fried rice to be the best items on the menu. However, I had a poor experience tonight in that the chicken egg rolls were not included in my order. When I called Grub Hub they said the restaurant was out of that item and refunded the cost, which is fine. However, I feel like I should have been given the option to cancel my entire order. I was not given this option. China King didn't call to say, hey we can't complete your order do you want to substitute the egg rolls with something else or cancel your order? This is what should have happened because honestly I would have just cancelled my order. read more

I was looking for a "no frills" Chinese take-out restaurant near Delmar and North & South. I found China King to be the place. The vegetarian egg-rolls were fantastic with good flavor and crispy. The Kung Po Shrimp contained lots of shrimp with the usual vegetables. There was enough food with the rice to have 2 leftover meals. Good location and easy to park near the front door. read more

This is by far the best in University City. Been coming here for 5 years now and honestly there is no substitute. All of their menu items are delicious. The family that owns it is always very friendly. Some of our favorites are the Lo Mein , Sweet and Sour pork/chicken and the gizzards. Kinda small on the inside , but the food speaks for itself . The other night we picked up beef lomein and crab ragoon. Can't go wrong with either!! The crab ragoon is the best I've had in a long time. I've always have trouble finding good Asian American food in St. Louis but this place has beat my expectations! My daughter that's only 20 months loves the noodles. The crab Rangoon was creamy, the chicken and garlic sauce was very good (just enough garlic to ward off any vampires in the area, but not enough to know anybody over, ha ha).
