I have Chinese cuisine maybe 2 times a year max. It's just not my thing, but.... when I have it, there are only 2 places I will get it from and Lam's is 1 of 2. Located in U. City, this place has been here forever. They've changed their ordering process due to Covid, there is a walk up window on the left side of the building. They will take orders on site, but recommended to call ahead. 15 min is all you need to have hot food in your hand. I walked up and ordered, was given a number and told to wait in my car as they would call the number over the loud speaker. 15 min later, heard my number, grabbed the bags and done. 1/2 order Chicken Lo Mein, Whole order Fried Rice combo Beef and Chicken, 4 egg rolls and 1 order crab Rangoon. The most unsatisfied I have been in a while. 1st the orange chicken is suppsed to be a "half order" and said to not come as a combination order. Why is it in a combo box? The orange chicken was so salty, like soy sauce. No actual pieces of meat in the chicken all CRISP and CRUNCH. I love a good hole in the wall Chinese restaurant! And this is the one! The owners are nice and know their customers. I ordered a half order of special friend rice and a St. Paul. People in stl need to appreciate their Chinese restaurants because you can't find this food anywhere else in the nation. This place isn't great. It's not bad. It's ok though. Their prices are pretty good, and they give you a lot of food for their dishes. Fried rice is dirt cheap here. But they're not even close to the best in town - especially considering Lam's neighbors. They're cash only, and relatively quick. I only did take-out, and was fairly pleased with the responsiveness. Not the most polite folks, but I just wanted my food to go so it didn't really matter to me. If you're looking for a great place to eat, this is not it. Recently, I just started getting their fried chicken- it's fried to perfection! My only complaint is the egg rolls. Have been dealing with Lam's for years. The bldg isn't reall designed for dinning in, but there are tables for you to do so if you wish, but not for a large group. Parking is minimal. It's better to call your order in and then pick it up. The food is pretty good, a little grease at times. They have transfered ownership from the father to the son. Since then the food is has changed in taste. I know everyone don't cook the same, the flavor is different. Taste good, prices reasonable. This is the main reason why I try all the ghetto places in town, even if they're right next to more "legitimate" places. The stuff I usually try at these places are wings and fried rice. The wings at Lam's are typical of any other takeout place, nicely marinated in what is likely soy / sugar / sesame oil and coated in whatever they coat their general tso's in. I think people underestimate the quality of takeout wings. The fried rice, however, is pretty good, but not something I'd get out of my way for. The main thing that I didn't like about it was that a lot of the meat was dry. Either way, if I'm jonesing for fried rice and wings, I hit this place up or Wong's Wok. Great food, but VERY slow service. I ordered ahead and was told "15 minutes". I was actually only a couple of minutes away when I ordered, but waited 20 minutes anyway. Once I got there and gave my name for the pickup, it took another 20 minutes before I got my food. A grand total of 40 minutes. But the food is good, just wish their service was faster.
