I'm in that area more nowadays because of the new Aldi, and they caught me in a weak moment. Alas, my first visit to the king. It's pretty unassuming, but felt promising. When you walk in there's a counter with a menu taped to it. I knew I was going to try the Moo Goo Gui Pan, my first visit to a place, I will always order a staple just to see how it is and it was delicious. It was piping hot, not overly salty, and all white meat. Best part? $8.00 including tip. There is a one four top in the waiting area that I'm assuming you can eat at, but when I visited the chairs were turned upside down. I didn't know what that meant, maybe they were just cleaning. Anyhow! Don't plan to dine in, but definitely a great place to carry out if you're in the south Grand area! read more

We order the chicken fried rice, crab ragoon, chicken lo mein, and an egg roll. The chicken lo mein tasted really strange to me. Jason liked it, but I didn't care for it at all. I love this place and I've never been there to eat. I was looking for some yummy Chinese food for delivery and came across this little gem. I didn't see a menu on Yelp so decided to google their company and found that you are able to order online: perfect. I ordered the steamed white rice along with steamed chicken and broccoli, spring rolls and was curious about their shrimp egg roll. Delivery was perfect timing. We got a flier in the mail for this new Chinese take out & delivery place in Gravois Plaza, and almost threw it away. I mean really, does the South Grand area really need yet another Chinese restaurant? But then we scanned the menu and spotted Duck Lo Mein. Now you have my full attention. We ordered the Hot Braised Chicken Wings (good, but not as spectacular as Old St. Louis Chop Suey on Chippewa), Won-tons in Garlic Sauce (outstanding, this will be a regular order for us now), Hot & Sour Soup (excellent, lots of veggies and a balanced flavor), and that Duck Lo Mein (fair amount of duck, good flavor, although noodles were a bit softer than I like). Next time we'll check out the Mei Fun (rice noodles, don't see that often from these places), and the Moo Shu. They also have a Party Special section with big trays of the crowd pleasers. Good prices, order came in about 40 minutes. The way they do their coupons is a bit unique, they have you give them to the delivery person, who gives you the cash back, so we just used that as the tip. The delivery was on time an accurate, but the delivery girl acted strangely. She didn't knock. I only knew she was there because my dog started barking. Then when I opened the door, there was a very awkward moment, where she just stood there, food in hand and said "hi" but didn't offer me anything. I finally said, "Are you...?" This place may look like a hole in the wall, but it's one of our go-to favorites for take-out near Tower Grove. One of the biggest factors for me when it comes to Chinese food is that, at some places, the meat is not good quality. It's good at China King. From shrimp lo mein to chicken with cashews to Mongolian beef, it's been good. The portion sizes are huge for the price, so it's a good deal all around. I enjoyed the Szechuan beef with pork egg rolls. There was nothing to complain about here. The egg rolls were hot and juicy. The vegetables on my entrée were crisp and the beef was tender. Not too big into the hot braised sauce they use here though which is a bummer. Standard Chinese chicken wing style that is super simple, but super good. Chicken teriyaki is good as well and one of the few that serves it kabob style. The gravy is has a curry-esque flavor with their egg foo young Vess soda is a staple of takeout if you don't got it, get it, free on Monday and Tuesday. 5 stars cause they are fast with the pickup too. Soon the plaza will be revitalized, so don't be put off by the ghost town plaza. read more
