Came here for the soft opening and I believe it's a solid 3 stars. I will also return a couple months after the grand opening for potential updates. I am an avid pho eater - from multiple authentic homemade pho to many of the amazing pho joints around northern Virginia. Service was great. Our server was very sweet and attentive. Crispy spring/egg rolls were sooo good and crispy. Super fresh, super hot. The dipping fish sauce was one of the best in this area, in my opinion. But the weird thing was - we ordered two orders of the spring rolls and one plate had much larger spring rolls than the other. The size was noticeably different. Their TD signature rolls were also good and a must try. Lemonade was absolutely bland and tasted like room temp water with a slice of lemon squeezed into it. I don't usually complain or return items but I had to return this one - we got a sprite instead. I tasted my friend's thai iced tea and it was good! NO KIDS MENU. This kind of sucked because I had to order a $14 chicken pho bowl for my child that of course, she could barely finish a quarter of it. Hopefully they can add a little something something for the little ones. I ordered the Dac Biet (combination) pho which was $18. Keep in mind, there are no size options. The broth was yummy but definitely not for this price. I got the portion of a regular sized bowl at any pho restaurant. This was delicious! I wanted to try something different than pho as my family already ordered that to eat. This banh mi skillet was flavorful and satisfying. It came with a toasted baguette. The eggs were over easy with runny yolks. It was topped with pickled daikon and carrots and cilantro, which cut through the richness of the meats. There is a whipped mayo (behind the cilantro, next to the pate). It's like a whipped version of the mayo in the traditional Vietnamese banh mi. There is a soy sauce based sauce drizzled on the sausages. The surprise and my favorite part of the dish was discovering the homemade pate! We came to try out Pho Towda on the second day of their soft opening. It's in the Fairfax Towne Center right across from the Regal Cinema next to Baja Fresh. The restaurant interior is modern and airy. They have a variety of drink options, including Vietnamese egg coffee that we saw other diners order that looked good. I tried the pandan tea which was a light refreshing drink! Like the other reviewer, I didn't know about the lemongrass flavour but I liked it, however I know not everyone is a fan of the strong lemongrass flavour so it would probably help to add that description to the menu! As for food, the specialty here is pho but there are also other menu items such as bahn mi and bun bo hue. We were shocked to see how much the pho here costs, ranging from $14 for pho ga (chicken) to $26 for their priciest pho! There was also an option to get hand pulled noodles but that was an extra $4. My boyfriend and I both ordered the custom pho, where you can choose 3 of the meat options, with regular pho noodles. Our bowls came out piping hot, and the soup was flavourful! The soup tasted authentic, which is a hit or miss with other pho places in Fairfax, but compares to the better places in Falls Church. The noodles came out a little too al dente but once sitting in the soup for a while cooked through a little more. The meat was the best part, after a close tie with the broth. The meat at Pho Towda tastes like higher quality cuts than meat at other pho places in the area. The flank, brisket, and tendon that I got were all tender and perfectly fatty pieces. My only note was that the veggies that come with the pho were light on the basil and I would love to see sate as an option with the sauces on the table. Overall, the food is 5 stars but I am hesitant to add this spot to our regular rotation even though it's really good because it's so pricey! The soup and meat are standout but for a casual pho place, this is definitely on the higher price point for pho in northern Virginia. The portion was good, and I think would be more appropriate to charge $1-2 less. For $15 a bowl I would maybe expect more meat, although I don't think it needs more meat. I think for the audience in Fairfax though, especially this location where it's more family friendly than bar trendy, a bowl of pho would more reasonably cost $10-14. read more

I would say Pho Towda provides a tasty meal but patrons should not expect an authentic experience. The bahn mi was pretty good, the bread is different but quite good and I received extra pickles and jalapeños when requested. The summer roll skin was a little tough and had more lettuce than herbs. Wow this place is phenomenal. First off, ambiance. This place is pristine. No layers of grim or dirt anywhere. There are beautiful and well loved plants throughout. It's apparent someone cares for them thoroughly. The leafs are polished and healthy looking. It's besides the point but to me it's indicative of an owner/manager who does things to the best of the ability... whether that be caring for plants or making food. We got there as soon as they opened and within a few minutes there were no available seats. I got the ban mi and hubby got vermicelli. Oh my the fresh veggies!!! The quality ingredients were evident. I'm so impressed with how this place is run. I'm excited to have a quality restaurant to add to the roster. Highly recommend stopping by. I decided to wait a few weeks after their grand opening to work out the kinks to check it out, and it did not disappoint! All of their food is made in-house, and they have super friendly staff. This location is also very convenient at Fairfax Towne Center, right next to Qdoba and across from the movie theater. All of their dishes and drinks were fresh and delicious. This Vietnamese restaurant is a favorite of mine in Fairfax, I am so glad they are just 2 miles away from my house, and the food at this restaurant is definitely worth trying. Great presentation of Pho! We had a wonderful and uniques experience here. Excellent service and nice ambiance. I ordered Bun Bo Hue, next came my huge plate of meat, followed by a boiling hot Pho broth in a granite bowl, and then a plate of perfectly cooked noodles and meat, and also another Bun Bo Hue for to go. The food came out quickly and was in packaged nicely for my drive home. While waiting for my food I was offered a drink. So I ordered 2 egg salt coffee which taste amazing. We came by for the soft opening yesterday and the pho in the stone bowl was amazing- consistently piping hot, broth was flavorful and noodles were tender and fresh. It was so good we came back the next day. Not sure if they were being extra generous on day 1 but the portion for day 2 was significantly less. They kind of looked at me strange when we asked about the difference in portions. They did bring an extra plate of meat after we asked but it just was strange that it was such a discrepancy. When we paid, I saw they accidentally charged us 18% for a big party fee- dude, there were just 2 of us. Honest mistake I'm sure, just make sure you check your receipt! Also tried the pandan tea. The description didn't mention lemongrass in it and there definitely was a (strong) lemongrass taste with the pandan. Hubby got iced Vietnamese coffee- it was really sweet and not as strong as we would've liked. Crispy fried egg rolls tasted great- a little pricy though for 2 egg rolls. Restaurant was clean and staff were very friendly. A few hiccups (when we first walked in and asked what time they opened the young man literally said, "I don't know.") Finally stopped in here yesterday after hearing a lot about it the first couple months they opened. I didn't get the stone bowl... for a whopping $23 for lunch it stopped me at the price. Instead I opted for a pork Bahn mi and the crispy spring rolls. More food for almost the same price. Bahn mi was good! It's huge and couldn't finish the whole thing. Stuffed full of pork, carrots, jalapeños, and cilantro. Definitely would go back and try another protein. Spring rolls were some of the best I have had in the area. SUPER crispy and two is the perfect size for someone to have as an appetizer before an entree. Husband got the combination pho. Honestly, was not that impressed by it. The egg coffee here is one of the things they have here! My gf and I got the Pandan and the Ube Egg Coffee and it was soo good. It has everything you would want from an Vietnamese iced coffee, but with a nutty sweet flavor from either the Pandan or Ube. When you first get it, I would use the spoon they give you to stir it up and mix as much as the ingredients you can together. This will incorporate all the flavors together, so you won't only be getting like Ube or Coffee flavor. If you're here you must get this!! Our friends recommended us to try the Stone Pot Pho, so both of us got it. The Stone Pot pho was really good. What you should expect is all the noodles, ingredients and vegetables will be given to you on a separate plate and the broth to be given to you in a stone pot and still boiling. I like this a lot because this also means that the meat is given to you on the side and you can quickly cook it to a medium rare rather than a well done beef. The beef is also seasoned, unlike other pho spots I have been to where the meat is just thrown into the broth. The broth is extremely flavorful and because of the stone pot, it will stay hot for a longer time. The downside to this is that they only give you the basic ingredients for Pho. It didn't come with things like meatballs, fatty brisket, tripe, etc. which is all of my favorite things to add to my pho. The staff will regularly come check on you and make sure that you are having the best experience when you are there. They accept credit cards and can split the bill, so you don't need to carry cash. Finally tried Pho Towda! We've been curious about how this pricier pho option stacks up against our typical go to's. We tried: - TD Signature Rolls with Chicken - Stone Pot Pho - Ginger Rare Steak Pho - Lemonade We REALLY liked the TD Signature Rolls! They're the best of both worlds -- crispy eggroll wrapped in rice paper. Lots of flavor. The Stone Pot Pho was unique because they served it with a thicker rice noodle, and it came out piping hot (at a rolling boil) in a stone pot. The steak was super tender, juicy, and flavorful. You can definitely tell the difference between this steak and the steak you typically get at pho places. It was super yummy, but do I crave this more than the typical bowl of pho? Most of the time, probably not, but I can see how I'd want this from time to time. We also liked the ginger rare steak pho, but it was nothing to write home about. The meat was really tender and flavorful, but it wasn't served rare (or even pink at all). I don't mind that, but found it a little strange since it's called "ginger rare steak pho". We were also concerned it would be TOO gingery, but it wasn't. I wouldn't come back here just for this dish. The fresh lemonade was good but not worth the $4.95 price tag in my opinion. It's a pretty small glass, esp given the amount of ice used. I haven't eaten in but have taken out twice. Hands down the best pho spot anywhere near Fairfax/Centreville. So far we have tried the Chicken Pho, Spicy Hue Noodles and the Grilled Pork Bahn Mi which were all excellent. The broth on both phos was as good as anything I have had recently and the Banh Mi may have been the best one that I have ever had. Although I lived in a couple of locales in Asia, Vietnam was not one of them so I'm not going to hop into an "authenticity" debate, but have been enjoying Pho all over the area since Taste of Saigon opened in Rockville. The staff does appear be to Vietnamese rather than Korean and both times I stopped in most patrons were Asian so make of that what you will. This is our first time there. The Pho is somewhat different than the regular bowl of Pho. However, the soup is okay, nothing special especially there are great Pho places in the DMV. The service is nice, they took wrong order for the bread, so we have to spend another $15 to get another bread because of their mistake, we don't want the waiter gets in trouble for returning the wrong bread order. The service here was slow the waiter wasn't as attentive or helpful he forgot my utensils after my food was brought out and my sauces weren't brought out till later. Every other place I've been to they have there sauces out to avoid this type of conflict. A big part of this bad service was the lack of communication with my waiter I waited and waited to the point where I had to get up and get the napkins my self. The service was great and one of the servers specifically was very catering to me and spoke more than just small talk which was nice and made it feel like there was a clearly healthy work environment and that that server in specific really liked her job and customer service beyond just trying to get a tip. She didn't seem like a robot waiter that just gets the food, she did have some little relatable human moments that some people would reprimand but I think it just shows that she's a person and is working here because she wants to, very charming and charismatic too. The food was great, I only got a pho because I had places to be but they recommended the banh mi and apparently they make it from scratch? They specifically talked about pork belly banh mi which genuinely sounds incredible and I WILL be coming back to try it or at least order it online. I was notified by an e-mail blast that this establishment was having a soft opening soon, and decided to stop by on the third day of the soft opening. We ordered two bowls of pho with brisket and soft tendon along with a Vietnamese coffee. Although I'm no expert of pho (edomae sushi is my specialty), I wasn't overly impressed with the offering. First, the portion was much too small; the size must be increased in comparison with our normal pho spot, Pho Duong. Secondly, the price must be reduced as the normal menu price of $15 is exceedingly high for the amount of food you are receiving. Third, the broth was a bit sweet for my liking; again, Pho Duong does it much better with the balance of flavors (along with the price, volume of food, and quality of protein). Lastly, the amount of protein was lacking; especially the amount of soft tendon in the bowl, which was just a few scraps at best. The previous restaurant at the same address, Pomodoro, had failed with the pandemic being the final nail in the coffin. This particular location doesn't have the best visibility or foot traffic, so word of mouth is key. For the restaurant to survive, it must do the following: 1) Reduce the pricing in line with places like Pho Duong. 2) Increase portion size, including the proteins. 3) Reduce staff, as there seemed to be too many servers for such a small space. 4) Possibly adjust the broth so it isn't so sweet, instead try to impart better umami via properly browning the beef bones, charring the aromatics, and adjusting the seasoning. 5) Sticking to the basics, as there seemed to be too many fancy upgrades for the menu items. No one is looking to spend a fortune eating humble pho or a simple banh mi sandwich, especially for families that are on a budget. This is coming from someone who has dined at 53 Michelin starred establishments. This is going to be a regular go-to place for me. All of the food that I've had here has been delicious; vibe is clean, open, and relaxed, and the staff are super sweet and work hard. Stone Bowl Signature Bowl and Combination Pho: We had the combo pho when we came for the soft opening and loved it; came back for the stone bowl today.
