It wasn't the best. I expected the fried salmon to actually be a full salmon but it turned into fried little chunks of salmon. Probably would not go back
We ordered steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed pork and shrimp shumai, chive dumplings, steamed pork buns, summer rolls that came with a sweet peanut sauce, taro salad-most of the dimsum were sizable and came in sizes of four with exception of steamed pork buns which came in a set of three. I think friend was surprised taro salad is actually fried and sweet-the foods are tasty but on greasier side. People who work here are no nonsense, efficient, but could be seen as bit blunt, which might or might not bother you. We had a large order and were also overcharged one extra order of shrimp dumplings so just double check when show your receipt. Dim sum mostly around 7 dollars each-okay happy with the food but I wouldn't say it's highest quality, hence 4/5 stars. It's seat yourself and we were able to walk in during lunch and there were plenty of tables. Food came out generally fast and hot
We walked in during lunch hour and we were immediately seated. The menu and ice waters were given to us right after. The servers were friendly and let us take our time in looking over the menu before ordering. I ordered the Green Basil Pho which came with Rare, Flank, Well-Done Brisket, Fatty Brisket, Tendon, Tripe, and Meatball. My dad ordered the create your own pho bowl and the crispy fried egg rolls. I like how they offer a create your own bowl so you can customize the different proteins you like in your pho. The broth of my pho was very tasty and the noodle to broth ratio was good for me. At some restaurants, i tend to find the noodle to broth ratio off. The crispy fried egg rolls were great for an appetizer. The restaurant had music playing in the background and there it looked clean when we walked in. The prices were a bit more expensive than other vietnamese restaurants but i would still give this spot a try for those in the area.
I had tried green basil a few years back and it was good but when I went back again, the dim sum was sooo good ! I have tried many dim sum places in NOVA and as of right now, this might be the top contender ! Every dish we had was so delicious ! We went right when it opened but it got crowded very fast. Each dish was served fresh and hot even when it came out of the cart. I did wish they had congee which they didn't have but the shumai and the chicken feet were delicious! The service is also very good. I hope to be back again soon.
Pho is slightly more expensive than at other restaurants, but the quality and portion sizes are better. I also appreciate that their pho contains the least traces of MSG, which is a big plus. The chicken pho was also satisfying, with generous portions of chicken breast and flavorful broth.
Came here on a whim as it's very close to our house. Both my niece and I ordered their pho. I got the one with the chicken but I asked to swap the beef broth with the vegetarian broth. My niece got the traditional with three different types of meat. I was very surprised how flavorful and delicious their vegetarian broth was with the chicken. Everything was wholesome, freshly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The serving size was generous especially the noodles and even the meat. For appetizer we were recommended the grilled chicken roll. While it was flavorful, it had way too much noodles in it for my liking. On the weekends there is a dim sum cart brunch. They also have quite a large vegetarian menu. I will definitely be back and bring my kids next time.

We came as a party of 2 on a Saturday afternoon, around 11AM to try to beat the brunch/lunch rush. Dim sum is mediocre. The kids who push the cart around I feel like didn't grow up going to dim sum at metro chinatown (NYC, NJ, Boston, etc) in the 90's on a weekend yum cha spot when its literally organized chaos at best. The dim sum is ok, gave off kind of pre-packaged vibes. Which is fine... if it didn't cost $6 a dish. We didn't want to shell out more on mediocre dim sum so we decided to get a pho bowl each, which was a mistake because we overate by the end of it. The pho was wonderful, nothing special, and tbh I think is the stronger suit the restaurant should lean more on Like the old adage - jack of all trades or master of none - they do both things mediocre (the pho performing a bit better) but they don't do either one of them really well - which IMO makes a difference because there are literally SO many other options in the area yuo could pick from
If you're looking for a nice mom and pop shop with quick service in Fairfax, look no further than Green Basil. We got the Beef Pho and Salt and Pepper Shrimp. They were solid and the Salt and Pepper Shrimp would bring us back to this spot. The server and staff were kind and quick to get us seated and served. We will be back for that shrimp and would definitely recommend.
Pho and dimsum! Unexpected combination but they even had the dimsum carts when I visited which is nice to see. Pan Fried Turnip Cake - very soft and smooth but could have a crispier outside fry. Unfortuantely, it was kinda cold when it was served and I feel like it would be even better hot. paired with actually spicy chili oil and soysauce still makes it a yummy bite 3.5/5 Shrimp Noodle Rice Rolls - very soft and slightly bouncy skin! Not too thick and shrimp was also nicely cooked so it wasn't dry. I wish they gave a bit more soy sauce. 3.75/5 Create your own pho bowl - the rice noodle tasted very soggy which made it hard to finish and break easily. overall not bad though even though the broth is on the sweeter side. 2.75/5 Sea Salt Coffee - coffee is on the much stronger side which is good for some people im sure but a bit too strong for me today. bitter but not too bitter but had a weird thickness to it. 1.5/5
Discovered this place a while ago on Yelp and was excited to try it! The only strange thing was serving pho and other traditional Vietnamese dishes with dim sum. I was very curious to see how good the dim sum was on my first visit. Dim sum: - Xiumai (steamed shrimp and pork dumpling) I would not get again. Ordered on 2 separate occasions thinking maybe the first time was just an odd day. I was 100% wrong because the second time was worst than the first. Dry and bland - Ha Cao (steamed shrimp dumpling) Pretty good! The skin was not too soft and not too chewy. The shrimp itself was really tasty! - Banh Cu Cai Chien (pan fried turnip cake) Decent but could be better. The batter itself was too mushy and traditionally, it is served oyster sauce or hoisin sauce. None were provided which I'm assuming they don't have this type of pairing for this menu item here. - Had more dim sum items like rice noodle and they were pretty good! Wish it was hotter like straight off the steamer. As for the pho... WOW. Would not have expected this level! The broth is on the more savory side and very good! They have just the right amount of food served. Highly recommend! As for their coffee... highly recommend! Most places make it way too sweet but this place is just the right amount. It does seem to get crowded and usually a 10-15 min wait time but there's a little waiting area. The restaurant is quite small but there's waiters check in often and turn the tables around very quickly once people leave. Highly recommend whether you're craving dim sum or pho but more so of the pho side!
When this place was Viet House, it served the best pho and bun thit nuong cha gio. For over 20 years, Viet House was my happy place. The restaurant's new owners have modernized the interior and made over the menu. The bun thit nuong cha gio no longer includes cucumber, cilantro, or peanuts, and the spring rolls aren't good. The pho broth is boring, and the noodle-to-meat ratio is wrong. Bowl was chipped, which can harbor bacteria. Won't be back. RIP Viet House. We had a good, long run. Hope Green Basil can improve to remain competitive in an area that has many good options for Vietnamese food.
Great food. The whole thing was a 10/10. We will be back. You should definitely go. We used to go to the previous establishment at this location. Apparently, Green Basil has been open for a year already! The pho was great. Broth was lovely. Noodles were cooked right. Nice toppings, generous portions. Crispy egg rolls also yummy. The ambience of this new business is great. Love the sleek black stone tables and red brick wall. Service was very nice and professional. The menu is exciting looking. I can't wait to try some new things. From what I saw at other tables, the beef looks great...other things looked good. Great dinner. Thanks!
We were excited to see a place serve pho and dim sum in the same spot with some friends. I got their Oxtail Pho that had a nice deep beef flavor and was not super oily like other pho broths. They didn't skimp at all with the oxtail as my bowl was filled with it. The dim sum they had was also pretty decent with a decent variety of the classics like shrimp dumplings, siu mai, spare ribs, etc. Good dim sum that will help fix your craving. Overall all the food was pretty good, but not the best I've had of either. This is a nice one stop shop with lots of options for everyone in the group. For a fusion Chinese/Vietnamese place I was really extremely happy with the food. The location is tucked away in a small strip mall but don't let the pet grooming place next door deter you from trying g this place out. It gets my vote for the Best suburban dimsum place I've been to in a while. Everything is freshly made. I ordered from both cuisines and the dishes were spot on. Got some dim sum and pho and I just loved them all. Our server was also very nice and noticed that we needed to go containers and we didn't have to ask for them. I wish I lived closer because this place rocks. In fact after writing this review, I think I'm gonna go there again tomorrow. Don't sleep on this joint. So good. read more

Saturday we came here with another couple.What a great find.Sad to see the place not full. We ordered several appetizers .Rice with sausage , Crab stuffed and shrimp rolls . All were so good and tasty freshly made.They took time after we ordered .Our main entree we ordered Beef with vermicelli.I loved this dish Good portion and full of flavor . Our friends ordered shaking beef . That was too good . Overall a very good experience. Definitely we will be back again.Plus very reasonable price . read more

This restaurant has really good dim sum, and I think their shrimp dishes are definitely the highlight. The fried taro root with shrimp was delicious, as were the shrimp shumai. We also ordered the fried sesame balls, which were absolutely delicious. The shaky beef, however, was not that impressive. We also tried the broken rice plate with pork chop and added beef. The beef took us by surprise because instead of the usual slices of grilled beef, it was more like ground meat cooked almost like skewered beef. It had a very interesting lemongrass flavor, but unfortunately, it was on the dry side. The grilled meats were also marinated in a very sweet sauce, which I personally did not enjoy. Overall, the flavor of the broken rice plate wasn't something that would bring me back. That said, we would definitely return to try more of their dim sum. Their shrimp dishes were consistently tasty, and we're also looking forward to trying their pho next time. read more

I went here for dinner with a friend recently. Since we were craving for dimsum and pho, we thought Green Basil was ideal to visit. The space was smaller than what I expected but it was modern-ish and cozy. For dimsum, we had Ha Cao, Pan Fried Chives Dumplings, Shu Mai, and Steamed Spareribs. For pho, we shared a bowl (I forgot which one specifically). I loved the dimsum and wished I could eat more. The pho was good but is not that memorable. However, I would like to try the special pho that they have. The service was okay. It felt like the staff was trying to get rid of us but otherwise it was decent. I probably would be back again for my dimsum cravings. read more
A big shout out and Wednesday love to my new Yelp family in NY - Andie, Jane, Lilian. Joel and my younger and loving brother TC who invited me to New Mulan restaurant in Flushing NY on 07/18/25 and got my taste buds hooked on and craving these beautiful specialties. I didn't have to wait long as my very sweet and awesome childhood buddy An( who is Vietnamese) introduced me to the beautiful, delicious and fun Green Basil DimSum & Pho just 257 miles south of NY in Fairfax, Va. Green Basil lived up to it's cool name with gorgeous food- the Pho was breathtaking, the shumai was stupendous, the lotus root salad had me singing, ( and the other patrons laughing), the Vietnamese Iced Coffee was strong and gorgeous. The prices were great. The service was stellar. The place was packed at 11:45 on a Wednesday morning. read more

One of my friends think Green Basil, while not exceptional, is the best dim sum in Nova. A small group of us made plans to enjoy dim sum this past Saturday morning. Each dim sum option that we ordered was $6, and we got 12 and ended up paying less than $100 after tax and tip. My favorite was definitely the egg tart. The tart itself was flaky (made with puff pastry?) and the custard was creamy and buttery. If there was anything I really enjoyed here, it was the egg tart for sure. Other options I enjoyed were the chicken feet and beef tripe, both were flavorful and juicy. The siu mai, sesame balls, and steamed buns (which had a good bun to char siu ratio) were pretty standard. Sadly, I wasn't the biggest fan of the shrimp dumplings (har gao) and shrimp rice crepes (cheung fun) -- thought the flavor was lacking and the wrapper/crepe was over-steamed and soggy. The shrimps in the cheung fun were also ridiculously small and the ratio of shrimp to crepe was off. The baked pork buns and steamed pork ribs were also just eh. Overall, our experience was OK. If I came back I'll for sure get the egg tarts here and I would try their pho. read more

This is my go to place to get dim sum! They have a variety of dim sum at good price. The dim sum comes out HOT, as in, super fresh and delicious. I usually get a combination of steamed dishes like the shumai, chive dumplings, and tofu skin rolls, and fried stuff like the fried taro shrimp pancakes. I've also tried their pho before which was good, but I have a soft spot for dim sum! Service is good and very welcoming. I keep coming back over and over again. read more

I heard about this Facebook from NoVA foodies group and I'm not disappointed. Everything was delicious. Pho was good with reasonable price. Honestly I was skeptical when a restaurant has multiple types of cuisine. I'm glad we ate here. The service was slow at the beginning and then it picked up. read more

The food was great and the servers were attentive! We were a large party (20+ people) and we understand some mistakes can be made here and there. They were constantly checking up on us making sure all our food came out and refilling our waters. I would definitely recommend the hargow and shumai (not pictured because we ate it too fast) and the caramelized salmon! read more
Green basil is an absolute staple for us !!! We love their Viet coffee iced which we often take to go!! Their pho broth is AMAZING! We crave it! Even in 80 degree weather !! Service is great, and efficient. It's clean, and then ambience is nice. I especially like their choice in music, it's always a bop! read more

Been to this no-frill restaurant couple of times. First time was after pandemic and they were out of most of their dim sum. Strange considering dim sum is in their name. This time around, we got the summer roll, which were tasty to start. For main dish, I had the grill chicken on broken rice. Their grill chicken is spongy compare to the normal lemongrass grill chicken elsewhere. However, their seasoned pickle veggies are much more flavorful than other. For her dinner, my wife got the fried chive dumplings and sticky rice in lotus leaf. The sticky rice tasted a bit plain to me but the dumpling were delicious and meaty. The service could be better considering there were not many people but one just need to ask. read more

So good! You can tell the good quality as soon as the food is served. First bite of the pan fried dumpling, you smell and taste the authentic flavor and aroma. The crab claw stuffed shrimp dumplings are huge and so tasty! The pho is so fresh and the soup is so flavorful, even before adding the hoisin and sriracha sauce! The basil are so fresh and green-large leaves. Place is clean and the servers are so nice and courteous! read more
This restaurant came highly recommended by many people. I'm glad I went there. The prices of the dishes were inexpensive and very filling. The staff was kind and were attentive to our needs. There were more plates we ordered that were not pictured. The steamed shrimp dumplings were my favorite of course and the bao bun as well. There was also a fried shrimp ball and a flat shrimp patty. There was a beef or pork dumpling as well that was delicious. Literally an endless amount of dim sum. There was plenty of seating as well and the location was in a good area in Fairfax. read more

I was able to make a revisit and brought my parents to celebrate their 57th anniversary. The restaurant was clean, modern and comfortable. I ordered 8 items: 1) Shrimp Dumplings 2) Turnip Cakes 3) Fried Eggplant 4) Pho Ga 5) Creamy Purple Yam Soup 6) Lotus Root Salad 7) Grilled Pork Vermicelli 8) Crispy Fried Tofu. Everything that was ordered was delicious and some items stood out from the rest. I had turnip cakes before in other restaurants but these were a lot thicker, softer and more flavorful unlike the others which are much thinner and sometimes serve cold. I usually dipped mine in a concoction of soy sauce and chili oil but man, I tell you. Please be very careful of their chili oil but it doesn't disappoint and if you love the heat, their chili oil has it!! But make you stirred it up first before using to get all those ingredients alive again. The purple yam soup was unique and surprisingly very good. It arrived to the table with a side of rice but you get two options with either shrimp or vegetables. It didn't really need that side rice because the consistency of the ingredients has the texture of rice. I would order it again. And lastly the lotus root salad that was served with fried shrimp chips. You have two choices of how to consume it but there's no wrong way. You can eat it by itself or you can use the shrimp chips and pile the salad on top, the combination of that lightly fried chip with the salad was on point and flavors were packed with umami. Our host/server was Alden who was friendly and knowledgeable. This place has a strong work ethic and team work with one minor fault, I still had to continually ask for more water and no one really checked on us. They served dim sum on the weekends on a cart and on the weekdays it's à la carte style. They are open everyday from 1030a-9p but closed on Tuesdays. Come check them out. read more

Tried a few items for take-out as we have family who are very picky about dim sum since they lived in NYC for many years. Great ha gow (shrimp dumpling) - large, think skin that didn't break, packed with shrimp. Very good steamed roast pork bun - the bao was fully and the filling was not too salty or too sweet. Deep fried dumplings with pork were very good too - nice chew from the rice flour and good size. We would like to try other items in the future. I would have ordered the rice noodle crepe but it was not on the online menu. I wish they would put beef chow fun on their menu - then it would make my entire family happy. read more

Hands down our favorite cart service dim sum restaurant. Everything is hot and steamed/ baked/ fried fresh. The staff is always pleasant. We had the special fried taro with custard this weekend and it was delicious! Go Birds !!! read more

I am visiting from southern California so I know my way around a good bowl of pho. I just happen to run across this place on instagram and decided to give it a try! I usually am skeptical of instagram places BUT this surpassed my expectations! I got their classic green basil pho and it was really good! read more
The braised salmon was succulent and soft, with a lovely flavor. The pan fried dumplings were just right. Stir fried vegetables were nothing special, and the steamed spare ribs were a bit greasy. Not perfect, but really good; we will be back soon, and I need to try the Pho. I just got distracted by the dim sum, which I can't resist. read more
