The chili oil they use is actually Vietnamese Sa Te which has a lemon grass flavor and more spicier than your average Dim Sum spot. The Shu Mai and Har Gow are nice and plump. Cheung Fun had a fresh rice flour after-taste. Fried shrimp balls came with a walnut shrimp mayo dip on the side which I thought was clutch. Every item that tends to not have meat seemed to have some sort of meat stuffed inside (taro fritter had shrimp in it, egg plant stuffed with meat, jalapeños stuffed with meat etc.) which I thought was pretty cool. Discovered this place a while ago on Yelp and was excited to try it! The only strange thing was serving pho and other traditional Vietnamese dishes with dim sum. I was very curious to see how good the dim sum was on my first visit. Dim sum: - Xiumai (steamed shrimp and pork dumpling) I would not get again. Ordered on 2 separate occasions thinking maybe the first time was just an odd day. I was 100% wrong because the second time was worst than the first. Dry and bland - Ha Cao (steamed shrimp dumpling) Pretty good! The skin was not too soft and not too chewy. The shrimp itself was really tasty! - Banh Cu Cai Chien (pan fried turnip cake) Decent but could be better. The batter itself was too mushy and traditionally, it is served oyster sauce or hoisin sauce. None were provided which I'm assuming they don't have this type of pairing for this menu item here. - Had more dim sum items like rice noodle and they were pretty good! Wish it was hotter like straight off the steamer. As for the pho... WOW. Would not have expected this level! The broth is on the more savory side and very good! They have just the right amount of food served. Highly recommend! As for their coffee... highly recommend! Most places make it way too sweet but this place is just the right amount. It does seem to get crowded and usually a 10-15 min wait time but there's a little waiting area. When this place was Viet House, it served the best pho and bun thit nuong cha gio. For over 20 years, Viet House was my happy place. The restaurant's new owners have modernized the interior and made over the menu. The bun thit nuong cha gio no longer includes cucumber, cilantro, or peanuts, and the spring rolls aren't good. The pho broth is boring, and the noodle-to-meat ratio is wrong. Bowl was chipped, which can harbor bacteria. Won't be back. RIP Viet House. We had a good, long run. We were excited to see a place serve pho and dim sum in the same spot with some friends. I got their Oxtail Pho that had a nice deep beef flavor and was not super oily like other pho broths. They didn't skimp at all with the oxtail as my bowl was filled with it. The dim sum they had was also pretty decent with a decent variety of the classics like shrimp dumplings, siu mai, spare ribs, etc. Good dim sum that will help fix your craving. I went here for dinner with a friend recently. Since we were craving for dimsum and pho, we thought Green Basil was ideal to visit. The space was smaller than what I expected but it was modern-ish and cozy. For dimsum, we had Ha Cao, Pan Fried Chives Dumplings, Shu Mai, and Steamed Spareribs. For pho, we shared a bowl (I forgot which one specifically). I loved the dimsum and wished I could eat more. The pho was good but is not that memorable. I really enjoy the quality of their dim sum and I'm so happy it's more local so I don't have to drive all the way to Rockville for dimsum. One of my friends think Green Basil, while not exceptional, is the best dim sum in Nova. A small group of us made plans to enjoy dim sum this past Saturday morning. Each dim sum option that we ordered was $6, and we got 12 and ended up paying less than $100 after tax and tip. My favorite was definitely the egg tart. The tart itself was flaky (made with puff pastry?) and the custard was creamy and buttery. If there was anything I really enjoyed here, it was the egg tart for sure. Other options I enjoyed were the chicken feet and beef tripe, both were flavorful and juicy. The siu mai, sesame balls, and steamed buns (which had a good bun to char siu ratio) were pretty standard. Sadly, I wasn't the biggest fan of the shrimp dumplings (har gao) and shrimp rice crepes (cheung fun) -- thought the flavor was lacking and the wrapper/crepe was over-steamed and soggy. The shrimps in the cheung fun were also ridiculously small and the ratio of shrimp to crepe was off. The baked pork buns and steamed pork ribs were also just eh. Overall, our experience was OK. If I came back I'll for sure get the egg tarts here and I would try their pho. read more

Been to this no-frill restaurant couple of times. First time was after pandemic and they were out of most of their dim sum. Strange considering dim sum is in their name. This time around, we got the summer roll, which were tasty to start. For main dish, I had the grill chicken on broken rice. Their grill chicken is spongy compare to the normal lemongrass grill chicken elsewhere. However, their seasoned pickle veggies are much more flavorful than other. For her dinner, my wife got the fried chive dumplings and sticky rice in lotus leaf. The sticky rice tasted a bit plain to me but the dumpling were delicious and meaty. Food was exceptional! Service was good, could be better. We went around 1130am on a Sunday, thinking we would beat the lunch crowd. All tables were full when we arrived, but this wasn't a negative, other than having to wait a few minutes for a table. Clearly a popular place with the Vietnamese community too, always a great sign. They offer dim sum too, and it was tasty but a single cart at a time and one person. This was the biggest negative and we heard other tables complaining too. Seems like they need to offer alot more dim sum more frequently in the cart with more attention to additional servers as it was quite popular but customers were frustrated at lack of service and lack of availability by the time the cart came to their table. I was able to make a revisit and brought my parents to celebrate their 57th anniversary. The restaurant was clean, modern and comfortable. I ordered 8 items: 1) Shrimp Dumplings 2) Turnip Cakes 3) Fried Eggplant 4) Pho Ga 5) Creamy Purple Yam Soup 6) Lotus Root Salad 7) Grilled Pork Vermicelli 8) Crispy Fried Tofu. Everything that was ordered was delicious and some items stood out from the rest. I had turnip cakes before in other restaurants but these were a lot thicker, softer and more flavorful unlike the others which are much thinner and sometimes serve cold. I usually dipped mine in a concoction of soy sauce and chili oil but man, I tell you. Please be very careful of their chili oil but it doesn't disappoint and if you love the heat, their chili oil has it!! But make you stirred it up first before using to get all those ingredients alive again. The purple yam soup was unique and surprisingly very good. It arrived to the table with a side of rice but you get two options with either shrimp or vegetables. It didn't really need that side rice because the consistency of the ingredients has the texture of rice. I would order it again. And lastly the lotus root salad that was served with fried shrimp chips. You have two choices of how to consume it but there's no wrong way. You can eat it by itself or you can use the shrimp chips and pile the salad on top, the combination of that lightly fried chip with the salad was on point and flavors were packed with umami. Our host/server was Alden who was friendly and knowledgeable. This place has a strong work ethic and team work with one minor fault, I still had to continually ask for more water and no one really checked on us. They served dim sum on the weekends on a cart and on the weekdays it's à la carte style. They are open everyday from 1030a-9p but closed on Tuesdays. Come check them out. read more

Dim Sum!!! Found this spot while I was in the area that had a dedicated dim sum menu that I have been craving for a long time. I tried a variety of options (pan fried chive and pork dumplings, steamed pork buns, steamed pork and shrimp dumplings) and they were all well made. Since it was the weekend when I stepped in, they had their baked pineapple buns which are a must try! Service is quite unique and takes a minute to understand as when you think about it, it makes sense to their fast service to their customers. They have a cart showcasing the food that moves through the restaurant as well as ordering with your server which keeps the pace of table turnover high. This is a good thing incase you were picking up what I was putting down. Upon my last experience here, I did not order the Tom Chi Tom Chien Gion (Chrispy Fried Shrimp) without the sauce. I also did not ordered the Chef Special called Tom Rang Muoi (Salt and Pepper Shrimp). Due to unpleasant visit with the toilet for a long time, I did not wish to have a possible repeat. I did order Vermicelli Noodles Bún. (Bún Đậu Chả Giò Chay) This is served with vegetables Vermicelli noodles with lettuce, bean sprouts, basil, cucumber, onion, and roasted peanuts. Served with house sauce. It is also served with two chrispy spring rolls. You might be able to get this with pork, chicken or even fried shrimp. I would ask the server about this potential option. I did not feel sick after eating the food this time. This is a very good thing for me. It makes want to come back here again and try something else from the menu. We've only had great experiences dining here (and I was skeptical at first!). When a pho place is combined with another cuisine, it raises a tiny red flag for me (like will either be good?) Happy to report that Green Basil actually DOES do both dimsum and pho well. I think it's charming that they try to do the carts too when you're walking in. It's not a traditional dim sum cart service - really it's a la carte, but the food is delish! I liked the taro shrimp cake, bean crud rolls, eggplant with shrimp paste. Most everything was fresh and made-to-order (which is more than can be said for other dim sum places in the area where the food has a 50/50 chance of sitting there for a bit and being cold). The interior is also clean and modern - really a nice place to sit and eat. The service here is always friendly. I would say it's on the smaller side of restaurants. Food: they have the basic pho + dimsum (small dishes). It was pretty good. It's the closest dimsum place in the area. The pho and dimsum were average (nothing super special about it) but location is great! Finally a spot where my whole family can go and everyone can get exactly what they want. My husband, toddler, and I feasted on plates and plates of har gow, shu mai, and shrimp and crab balls while my dumpling hating daughter happily slurped on a bowl of pho. The owner was really involved and walking around, but all of the staff was just lovely, asking questions, and anticipating needs in advance.
