    Grilled pork Bánh Mí

We saw this Pho restaurant in a small strip mall in Oakton. Decided to try it since it got at least a 4.0 on Yelp. We came early on a Sunday morning. There was plenty of wide open space in the dining area with 2 tvs. One playing scenery of Vietnamese landscape, other was of Vietnamese food (cooking/travel). The music was very soothing, made me sleepy. Whenever we go to a Pho restaurant, we always try the fresh summer roll, the Pho and this time Banh Mi. We got the fresh roll with Pho sides within 2 minutes of ordering. Another 2 mins, the Banh Mi comes out and then 2 mins later, the Pho. The timing was odd for me as usually we finish each course, the next course comes out. It's a preference for me to always get the optimal freshness and temperature for the food. Oh well. The summer rolls were good but my son mentioned not as flavorful as other places. The fish sauce wasn't as good either. 6/10 The Banh Mi was good as the bread was crust on the outside and soft inside. There was only one thin layer of grilled pork. It was tasty but there was no pate. It was Americanized by using mayo. And there was pickled veggies but a sparse amount and did not include jalapenos. Had to use the ones which came with the Pho. For $10, needed more meat and filling. 5/10 The shining star was the Pho. The broth was excellent. Deep and flavorful. My son mentioned the noodles were inconsistent. Some were overcooked, some were undercooked. I didn't experience that though. The meat flavor wasn't the best but there were large chunks of tendon which I appreciated. Broth was def a 10 but other stuff was 7 or a 6/10. Overall 7.5/10 This place is good but not great. More expensive by $2-3 per dish and quality was good but not great. Overall? 6/10. I would come back but my son most likely won't.

The phó is phenomenal here. My wife gets the vegetarian, and I got the chicken. Both are perfectly flavored as you would get it in Vietnam. Note that some restaurants in the area put in tons of msg/salt, and this restaurant does not do that. Also, I have had the Vietnamese iced coffee here, and is is also spot on... with the hints of chocolate from the robusto coffee you would expect. I highly recommend. And, adding in deets from my wife, the Chay (veggie) version she feels is the best in the DMV area. The number 2 would be Pho 75 Rockville MD and then Mi La Cay in Wheaton MD. So they clearly recommend this for veggie soup as well. This time we are also trying the garden/summer rolls. They are also quite good. Up there with the best... but I can't pick one as better than another between Mi La Cay or Pho 85. So if you want the real deal, come here.

Love the transformation from a bagel shop - clean, light, modern & welcoming space! Carried out Pho Ga (chicken) and Banh Xeo (crepe). Banh Xeo was wonderfully crispy, so much greens for wrapping - love my veggies! Sadly the pho was meh - watery, even the color was too light (being Viet, fish sauce to the rescue), though the amt of meat & noodle was generous. This is our neighborhood, so happy a Viet restaurant opened, going to stop by often!

Nothing exceptional but good quality, good food And a fair amount of steak in mine for $16. I wish I could say the same about the service or lack there of provided by the two young female servers. For starters, they have zero communication skills. They drop things at the table and just stand there without a word. I did not receive the Vietnamese coffee that I ordered until I asked for it nor was I asked whether or not I wanted it with whipped cream - there's was no description on the menu so I wasn't aware it came with whipped cream. When we placed our order we asked for extra cilantro and received no cilantro at all. Once the runner delivered our food no one came over to ask how everything had turned out, if we needed anything else etc. The lack of communication, lack of attention to detail and quite frankly complete lack of personality turned a pleasant afternoon meal into a disappointment. It's a shame because I saw several other things on the menu that I'd like to try but I'm not interested in being in that unpleasant atmosphere again

The dinnerware they use is so cute, too, which is always a plus! My go-tos.. -bot chien: pan fried rice flour cake in egg omelet. A must try. The soy-based slightly sweet dipping sauce is highly addictive! -rice vermicelli bowls: always fresh & packed with all the wonderful herbs & fixings. Their grilled pork is my favorite. I love their nuoc cham fish sauce. -broken rice (com tam): my favorite thing from here. Their grilled pork chop with bone is incredible. C8 is the best with all the classic com tam sides. -Bun bo hue: I'm picky with my BBH since I'm certain my grandma makes the best version. But it's amazing here! The broth is so aromatic with the perfect kick to it.

During busy hours, service is surprisingly quite slow. I found my table to be waiting 10-15 minutes for our order to come out which is unusual for a pho restaurant. Also in terms of my rating for food, I have not personally tried their pho but have tried their other dishes like the bun bo hue noodles and the bun dau mam tom which are more traditional Vietnamese dishes that a Vietnamese person would come here and order and I think they are very good except the bun bo hue is not at all spicy like the traditional broth and the bun dau mam tom is a little lacking in toppings. Other than that, I am willing to return to try their pho and try for myself to see if the pho holds up to the standards that customers love.

Gao actually deserves 4 stars, but I had to deduct a star because I left hungry!…read more We found Gao after running errands in the Microcenter shopping center and came in around 6pm today on a Wednesday evening for dinner. There were plenty of open tables but no staff in the front when we arrived so we stood around for 2-3 minutes waiting to be seated. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated with a subtle hint to Vietnamese culture. Like many casual Viet joints around here, there was a TV showcasing Vietnam tourism, although the TV in the back was also showing Japan tourism which was odd. We were brought two cups of water with no ice and had to request ice, which was also odd considering it was in the upper 80s outside. The menu has many Viet cuisine classics like pho, bahn mi, bun, bun bo hue, ba cua, and com tam. Although we're in peak heat of summer, I could never turn down a bowl of pho! I was a little confused as the menu was entirely in English and I usually know my order in Vietnamese and couldn't tell which English option it was as the English descriptors were kinda generic. It's a little saddening that the owners thought that a bilingual menu would be more of an obstacle than an opportunity for their customers to learn and connect with the food and culture. There might be something more there but I'll let my therapist unravel that one lol. I customized to my usual pho tai gan. Herbs, especially the basil, was very fresh and I appreciated the big leaves. The lime was kinda dry. Noodles were al dente and I like mine a little more done but the texture evened out as the hot broth kept cooking it while I was eating. The soup was good and flavorful, well balanced and not too "clean" and not too "dirty". The soup was the highest ranking component but the soup to noodles ratio was off, with too little noodles, hence, leaving me with almost half a bowl of broth and a half empty stomach by the time I finished the meat and noodles. The flank was cooked well-done and I would have preferred the traditional way of serving the meat raw in the boiling soup. My favourite ingredient in any pho is tendon and the tendon here I can only describe as displeasurable. The texture was too soft and goopy and the taste was very bland like it was added to the soup before serving instead of absorbing any of the soup flavour. It's like how honey or brown sugar boba is the norm now so when you go to a place where the tapioca isn't soaked in sugar it is a bland and unsettling taste. Overall I would rank the pho well, beating out local places like Pho Duong and Pho 4 ever, but not able to topple the OG, Pho 75. I'm hoping these quirks from my visit today are addressed to improve the dining experience and add more commitment to the Vietnamese culture.

We had the best time at this restaurant. Once we were seated, our waiter was so attentive to us. He also gave us great recommendations for food and drinks. My favorite entrees were the Vegetarian Chả Giò and the Vietnamese Udon. This restaurant does such a great job of creating Vietnamese fusion food. Their drinks were also amazing! The Cầu Vàng Sour was the highlight of the entire meal. I loved it! This seems to be a new sad trend :( There was a waiting area with tiny cocktail tables and I was able to sit there and someone eventually took my drink order. What was crazy was that after so many appetizers, we were too full for the whole crispy fish! Ugh! Now I have to come back. The baked oysters were as good as I remembered.
