It's a solid ramen place; I like the decor of all the anime panels across the walls. They have a strong izakaya type menu with lots of appetizers, rice bowls, etc. - if that's your jam then this is a strong option. For me I just want ramen, and everything about the spicy bowl just left me wanting more. All the base elements are there but nothing stood out. Broth's a little like, the chashu a bit chewy, noodles a bit too soft. Felt like a jack of all trades, master of none deal. Tucked into the shopping plaza, Kimen Ramen provided a cozy atmosphere and great food. We tried the chicken karage and gyoza for apps. Both were pretty good! I had the tantanmen for my entree and my husband got the spicy ramen. I think his broth was more flavorful than mine, but I really liked that they didn't up charge for the toppings. I found this hidden little gem in a shopping center about 30 minutes away from Washington, DC. It's a small cozy restaurant, with cute decorations. The restaurant can accommodate about 20-25 for occupancy. We started out with drinks, it's canned soda with no refills. We started with appetizers the pork gyoza and kimchi (interesting), unfortunately there was no special sauce with it. We all ordered the kimen and miso ramen. The kimen ramen was hot and flavorful especially during the winter season to warm your belly fulls. It was delicious about a 9.0 out of 10. Then ordered the Tantanmen ramen which was spicier than your typical miso or shoyu based ramen. A small cute ramen shop with good food. The service was good, lady was kind and was doing her job. The takoyaki here is good and in my top 3 spots. It has a nice crispy outside with 1-2 pieces of octopus inside. I got the spicy Kimen Ramen and it was a good medium spice but i added chilli oil and their extra hot sauce that's on the table. The employee saw me eyeing the hot sauce and she warned me, it is extremely hot and i loved that it was an option (i love spicy spicy). We order lots of different food, the karagee, the chicken katsu, different types of ramens, a yuzu highnoon. Everything tasted delicious and such a large portion, I didn't finish mine and was full after 2 chopstick full. Love the Yuzu highnoon, tasted like juice but can also give you a bit of buzz. Super happy I found this small ramen place. It's a tiny spot tucked away in the corner of the shopping center. We got chicken karage for appetizer. They were making it fresh cuz the chicken was pipping hot and super crunchy. Main dish we got Tantanmen and Spicy Ramen. And WOW highly recommended spicy ramen. The broth was amazing, super smoky, very well seasoning. Definitely worth the money for the portion too. The Tantanmen ramen is good but the broth isn't as good as spicy ramen. Being the ramen lovers that my husband and I are, I really wanted to love this place as it's closer to home than other ramen shops but it just didn't hit the spot for us. Kimen also has another location in Annandale as well. We started off with the gyoza and adegashi tofu for appetizers and both had the spicy ramen with pork (there was also an option for chicken). The gyoza wrapping was a bit too thick for my liking and the adegashi tofu was tasty. The ramen was mediocre in terms of flavor (the spice overtook the soup and I didn't even add any extra spice) but the toppings were generous. Outside of a handful of appetizers and ramen, they also serve specialty ramens, donburi, curry donburi, and katsu. They also serve alcoholic beverages (beer, sake, soju) as well as a small selection of iced teas and Japanese soda. As we're typically fast eaters and were coming in during lunch, the service was friendly and efficient and all of our food came out quickly. We were in and out within ~30 minutes! read more

Really yummy ramen! They have huge amounts of sides, and I was pleasantly surprised. Usually, I have to ration out the pork, but here I was able to enjoy some with every bite. The interior was really cute, with a lot of anime-themed decorations and lighting. It's definitely smaller, but there were still ample amount of seating for everyone. We took the "bar" seats, but a table wait was roughly 15-30 minutes from what the waiter told us. Was in the Fair Lakes area running errands right around lunchtime and needed a place to have lunch. When I venture out of my local area, I take advantage of finding "hole-in-the-wall" non-chain places to eat to branch out and expand my culinary horizons and....to report back - good or bad experience - to my fellow Yelpers. :) Had a hankerin' for ramen as that's a food category that I am always on the hunt for places with solid, delicious and priced-right offerings. Kimen caught my eye as I searched Yelp for close-by places. High ratings, positive reviews, interior pics made the place look quaint, clean and inviting. I can report that, bottom line, Kimen is worth the visit. Granted all I ordered was a single bowl of ramen for 15 bucks. That's it. No drink - just ice water. The bill literally came to $15.80 including tax, before tip. Heads-up - THIS PLACE IS TEEEEEENY TINY INSIDE. I took a vid of the entire inside lol - check it out. Not a negative or show-stopper - but not a place to bring a large party. Not a ton of tables and more 2 tops than 4. Going there solo for a bite to eat is fine - there's a whole counter of single seating along one wall. Full service restaurant but pay at the counter when you're finished. The interior decor is pretty cute - an animated, colorful, whimsied Japanese anime-themed place. Clean and neat. The menu for such a small place is extensive - lots of menu offerings to choose from. Not as much food/noodles as I had expected but not a showstopper. The amount of pork slices was decent - thick, slightly fatty, tender. No issues. The noodles were cooked perfectly al dente chewy-just-right. THE RAMEN BROTH LEFT SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED THOUGH. I was disappointed that the broth was thin and not as deeply flavorful as good solid ramen should be. The flavor of the broth can make or break the dish - and in the case of Kimen's ramen, the broth was a detractor. Not a deal breaker but disappointing. Buttttttttttt SOMETHING THAT CAN EASILY BE FIXED.... Would I come here again? Sure, I might - if I'm in the area. I would be open to coming back and trying some other Japanese classic menu items. Out exploring with my son, we found Kimen Ramen. The restaurant is small, clean and decorated with anime and Japanese advertisement posters. While we were there the restaurant filled up, and had pick up and door dash orders. The server came a few minutes after seating and we ordered spicy ramen and original ramen with chicken and bok choy. We all enjoyed our ramen, but the trouble came with the chashu pork. The chashu in the bun appetizer and in the ramen was chewy and tough. Had the pork been more tender it would have been a great bowl of ramen! The broth was flavorful, noodles cooked well, and the egg was deliciously seasoned. Good food and good service. The inside was pretty small for a large party. We came in with 11 people and the seating was separated. Usually the manager doesn't allow re-arranging of the tables but did this time to accommodate the large party we had. I got the spicy ramen. The broth was deceiving as it was white (expecting red) but turned out to have a nice kick. The pork chashi was ok - wish there was a little more char and ease of biting/tearing it apart. Service was alright, one server handled the entire FOH and was running around like a madman. We tried the karaage, shoyu ramen, and original ramen. Karaage was a little tough, not super light and airy. It was a very large portion for the price. Neither the shoyu or the original ramen stood out to me. It seemed both needed a lot more flavor in the broth, because they kind of just tasted like the stock used to make them. The chashu, egg, and other toppings weren't anything of note. While options for ramen are somewhat limited in the area, I don't think I will be returning to Kimen. Seldom do I eat everything including the brother but I always clean my bowl here, as do my kids.
