    Yaki Shoyu

All of the ramens on the menu looked like instagram material. I tried Yaki Shoyu because it had skewers and Chadol. You can taste grill flavor in Yaki Shoyu, and skewers are very tender. Chadol was decent but had a lot of meats. In terms of portion, it is really generous. Price is little cheaper than Jinya, but portion is much larger. However, it is like Korean Japanese fusion, so if you are expecting typical Japanese ramen, this place is not for you. I would love to try other ones in the menu as well. Service was quick and nice. There was only one sever when I was there, but you would be surprised how quickly everything is served. I personally loved the way it looked inside. It looks modern and clean and has very young vibe.

First time here! Big open space and had no issues with seating. I got the spicy chicken ramen and it was fantastic! The bao bun was okay but not bad. Overall we enjoyed our lunch here... not sure if I'll come back again but def worth a try if you haven't been.

The food here is better than a lot of places that sell the same food. I have been here few times, never was disappointed. Service is also very good. I would recommend this place if you want some Korean/Japanese food.

My mom had tried the mushroom buns for lunch with a coworker.. so naturally she raved about it. Naturally walking in felt weird partially because I haven't been in this actual location since it was previously Chinese restaurant that I grew up with. The overall look of the restaurant is nice and modern. There is a hostess desk? Not sure cause it looks so plain. Restaurant was empty. Sat down and the menu looked presentable always appreciate a visual menu. Although that causes high expectations to replicate the photo. Now off to the ordering... Okay maybe I was a bit confusing when ordering but I also asked the server to repeat my order so I made sure I ordered. (1) Bulgogi Bun (1) Grilled Pork Bun. (1) Shrimp Bun and Chicken Kaarage. And a Takoyaki . Because at first I had said chicken bun and forgot no I didn't want a chicken bun cause we were getting Kaarage. But somehow ended up with the chicken bun instead of the intended shrimp bun. It's fine...just as these buns priced at $8.00-8.50. Hmm.. inflation is real. They were "okay". Thin buns with some kewpie mayo,2 thin slivers of cucumber, thinly sliced lettuce and the meat. If your charging me that price I may want more flavor/excitement. Takoyaki.. served hot crunchy exterior and soft center and chewy octopus at least there were 3 small pieces in each that was appreciated. Chicken Kaarage.. less salty then most I've had light and crispy juicy not dry. Honey mustard like sauce and lemon helped with bring flavors together. The Ramen... Volcano Spicy Ramen.. $16.50. I am no penny pincher with food but I do get peeved when food is not worth its value. Again perhaps I ordered the fluke item on the menu.. I really tried to find the best in the soup and I couldn't perhaps it was my overcooked egg. Which is my fave part of ramen.. is the Soy marinated egg. The jelly texture tells me if the soup is worth it. Nope just a over medium boil now my Dad's his was decent perhaps it's because he ordered the basic miso ramen. Perhaps I should just gone basic $13.50.. The broth...this is not my first rodeo with spicy miso. It's like my go to everywhere I go. Here's what I got vinegar/sour/spicy but dry spice. I have never been so confused by a ramen. It's the spice of a hot and sour soup but the flavor of flat. Although I tried it again warm/cold to make sure I wasn't crazy and there was so flavor I was missing. Noodles didn't add much and broth didn't really soak in my noodles either. It came with chicken pieces which tasted mostly of vinegar. Perhaps it was like adobo style sweet/vinegary..Not spicy. Overall this place has me confused did I just pay for an overpriced represent of a ramen dish? Is the restaurant still new that maybe the chef that day was off their game? I don't really know if the is place gives enough to want to return to try other things. With all the places to get Ramen in NOVA... I don't know if this place stands out enough for me.

Always down to try a new ramen place! For those familiar with ramen, the broth here is chicken based not pork. The ramen was ok - thought it lacked the punch or umami, but would eat again. The noodles seemed like instant wet noodles. I asked for my noodles to be more firm and that didn't happen. The pork was also dry. The spicy pork was tasty but wow was the portion small. We also tried karaage, which frankly tasted like chicken nuggets - wouldn't order again. One of the staff (guy) was very attentive and nice. The other guy working lacked energy, had no serving mannerisms, maybe it was his first day. We would give this another try, hoping that some new opening growing pains are resolved.

Food/Drink, 4.5/5: The food was great! From the buns to the ramen! Everything was good, just enough seasoning and spice. I recommend the buns, the meat was seasoned really well! Pricing, 5/5: Not badly priced for the area that it's in! Service, 5/5: We were one of the first people in the restaurant for the day. Our server was really nice and the food came out quickly! Aesthetic/Atmosphere, 4/5: It's a simple look, but the restaurant looks very clean and simple. Overall Experience, 5/5: I'd come back here for a warm meal! Their food has a nice kick to you!

Dining room. Very clean and spacious!

Tremendous value for such a flavorful and full bowl of ramen! The first thought when we walked in was that this place was super clean spacious. We didn't know it was the new owner waiting on us until the end and he was both friendly and the right amount of attentive. Let's talk the Ramen. It's full of flavor and they are very generous with portions of pork, chicken, or bulgogi. We were hungry walking in and only ate half our portions. My wife scolds me for eating leftover Ramen but I'm looking forward to that for lunch tomorrow! ) I can't wait to go back again and try the other options on the menu. Hope to see you there!

This restaurant doesn't look like much when you walk past it. Walking in through the door I enjoyed the simple and minimal amount of decor and design this restaurant uses. It's neither too distracting or too loud. As a woodworking hobbyist I really enjoyed the layout and the cedar slats used on the wall to give it a modern design. The menu wasn't overwhelming and the prices were pretty average, neither too expensive or cheap. It's also nice to see a visual menu since that helps set expectations on what you'll be receiving. As a Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant, I came in with an open mind not knowing what to expect. We ordered the Karaage and Takoyaki for our appetizers. The breading on the Karaage was not as crispy as I would like it to be but it was still edible. The sauce for the Karaage wasn't bad, had a slight roasted garlic taste but definitely could have used less mayo. The Takoyaki was pretty tasty. Each piece was had about 2-3 pieces of octopus inside which was a nice surprise. I ordered the usual miso ramen for $13.50 and added chicken ($2.00) and bulgogi ($2.50) to my order. When the waiter brought out my ramen he looked at me and said "sir, here's is your everything bowl" which throughly amused me. Looking at my bowl I can see why he said that. I didn't see any noodles at all, the top was just covered in meat. Typically when you order extra meat to be added to your ramen, you really only get a few pieces but I got more than just a few pieces. The ramen seemed to want to emulate kotteri Hokkaido-style ramen. Hokkaido style ramen are typically the kind that includes corn and butter (didn't seem any butter in mine) on-top of a miso soup base. The soup base is definitely more kotteri than assari. The ramen is the dehydrated medium thickness wavy noodles, which is why I understand how some people compare it to instant noodle style ramen. The amount of food I received is worth what I paid. After eating one bowl I was full so I couldn't explore the desserts they offered, I'll save that for next time. Overall, though this restaurant may not be the best ramen spot in the area, living so close to DC we have many more options, I would say it warrants a second visit since I enjoyed the atmosphere, the interaction with the waiter, and the amount of food I received for what I paid.

This place is decent and has the potential to be pretty great. There were a few things that could need improving. The service was extremely slow, but it also seemed like only two people were working the entire place. The ramen was decent but not the best compared to other places in Fairfax. It was lacking some of the depth of flavor that the other places seem to have. NOW, Their buns are amazing. We had the bulgogi, pork belly, and Karage. All of them were super good.

Yummy! Delicious ramen - Volcano is tasty and spicy!! The best part of the meal hands down was the grilled eggplant. Very pretty & serene atmosphere. Next time we will try the takoyaki and yakitori. Great job for a new place.

My wife, son, and I walked in here on a whim without knowing anything about the place prior. Immediately we were impressed with the decor and cleanliness and overall vibe. I personally ordered the pork gyoza, chicken buns, and chicken katsu and my wife got ramen and we all shared. This is honestly some of the best Korean / Asian food we've ever had. It's honestly fantastic. This is definitely going to be somewhere we go to regularly. I'm actually writing this review from inside the restaurant because of how impressed we are. My only photo is of the chicken katsu because we ate everything else too quickly.

Unique Korean/Japanese fusion but wasn't memorable in my opinion. I got the Yaki Shoyu and got a generous amount of chicken and toppings. The broth was pretty good and had a nice smoky flavor. The noodles were ok, I prefer them chewier so not sure if these were fresh. Major points for service because the staff was attentive and kept checking on us. The decor and vibe of the restaurant was also very cute.

    Volcano spicy miso ramen!

Yummy! Perfectly spicy. I happened upon this place and it had the magic word in the name. Ramen!! Newly opened. There were only 2 others in the restaurant. I ordered the spicy volcano miso ramen. It had yummy tender bites of chicken and the ramen noodles were nice and al dente. Plenty of chicken to fill you up. You probably won't need an appetizer unless you can put away some food. The soup came out very close to what the picture looked like on the menu. I'm not even finished eating and will def return to try the other soups. The decor is very simple and Asian chic. The server was nice and prompt and kept the table clean! A nice water pitcher comes to the table. The restroom was super clean. Bonus! Highly recommend if you want some spice ramen noodle soup!

Rateba is permanently closed. In its place, Maru Izakaya took over their space. We had the tonkotsu ramen at Maru which was so flavorful.

However, there was a sign on their day saying they were now only open for lunch. Of course, we were disappointed, but were quickly able to figure out that there was another Maru location in the Pan Am shopping center. I was familiar with Pan Am because I buy art supplies at the Plaza store there. So, we headed over to the Pan Am Maru. A friendly staffer promptly seated us. About half the tables were occupied. We asked out server what was going on with the Vienna Maru and she told us they were gradually shutting it down completely. However, the Pan Am Maru is not fully functional yet. They have a sushi counter but it won't open until next year. I also don't know if the current Pan Am Maru menu is the one they are going with going forward. But I do note it is smaller than the one at the Vienna Maru, noting in particular that the lunch options, such as the bento boxes, are not on the Pan Am Maru menu. If they have done away with the bento boxes, I'm not that interested in returning. Service at the Pan Am Maru was very good. The ambience is comfortable. We ordered Spicy Pork Bulgogi, Spicy Chicken Bulgogi, Japchae, and the Katsu special. When they say the pork and chicken bulgogi are spicy, Mary is not fooling around. These dishes are hot spicy! Overall, each of our dishes were well-prepared and tasty. I also ordered the beef bulgogi steamed buns and they were excellent .

The place was filling up and the ambiance reminds me of a traditional bustling noodle house - perfect for the cold snap we were experiencing at the time. We got hot and sour noodle soup, sichuan beef noodle soup, and an order of their pork soup dumplings. Portions are generous and prices are fair, it's easy to become a regular here if you live nearby. The hot and sour noodle soup is as advertised - just enough spice to complement the sour, but not overwhelm to make it feel like mala. It's served, as expected, with glass noodles, some bak choi, and some pork slices. Nothing spectacular but par for the course. The sichuan beef noodle foon soup was slight notch better. The broth gives really warm vibe and you can tell it's been brothing for a long time. Again just the right amount of spicy to make you keep slurping for more. The noodles were average, chewy, but not bouncy. Also comes with a healthy amount beef slices and bak choi. Again - a great noodle soup bowl but nothing jaw dropping. Soup dumplings were fantastic, however. The pork definitely has its own marinade and the soup is flavorful. The dumpling skin is well constructed and complemented well with the noodle soups - especially in cold weather. tldr; solid noodle soup spot, they seem to be consistent and really hits the mark when you're in a for your noodle fix.
