I always randomly crave bun rieu or bun bo hue. I have seen this spot multiple times and decided to try it since it has bun bo hue. It was good, and can fill the craving (if you need something nearby), but the flavor is not as strong. The meat vs noodle ratio was fine. Which is great, sometimes spots have way too much noodles compared to meat. There was a pork knuckle/hock in the soup too! This spot is in a shopping center, so plenty of parking. Trying another local spot to satisfy my pho craving. They have an interesting setup where you order at the kiosk and then the food is brought out. I've ordered P2 Combination Pho and Joy Rolls. Combination Pho has multiple meats and they were all cooked well and did not smell at all. And they've added chopped green onion and it was good for Pho and its soup. Waitress and waiter steamed the beansprout as requested and got my orders right. Interesting pho spot in a little plaza near the Walmart in Fairfax. We came as a party of 2 on a Saturday evening and was able to easily find a spot. I've had a lot of Vietnamese restaurants and this one was a bit peculiar - lots of hints of lemongrass in the pho, it wasn't bad but not really what I was expecting. The banh mi was delicious, excellent toasted bread and meat was a little tough but hearty nonetheless. Good quick bite. Summer roll and joy roll. Order both so you can taste the fragrant yummy herby summer roll and then try the joy roll its crispy little bites will kind of make your moment. Service was good, staff were nice and food came out quickly, all that accomplished while they have a sign for kitchen and wait staff on the door. We had three Bun Bo hue all of them were bland, no flavor. We added chili to give it some type of seasoning. The server actually forgot all of our beverages. I had to ask them where it was after our entrees came. He still forgot my iced coffee lol. He gave us hot tea with leaves floating , we had to request a new pot. One of my favorite pho spots in the area. The restaurant is pretty large, plenty of seating. You can choose to order via the computer system or you can have someone waiting on you and they just stand there so they are quick. Food comes out as it's ready. Yum! We were in the area and decided to try Pho Bytes. Placed an order online which was simple and straightforward. Our order was ready within 20 mins. Employees are friendly and neatly wrapped our takeout order. There is plenty of indoor seating and the restaurant is neat and organized. Our meal was delicious! This was my first time trying Ginger Tenderized Eye Round Steak Pho. It had a lovely fresh ginger flavor and was incredibly comforting on a cool day. The broth was well prepared. This cold day of January I decided to visit Phot Bytes. This was my first revisit after few years and moving out of the area. Seeing the many renovations since when it was called "Pho Today" I thought (and hoped) the food quality has improved as well. To my disappointment, the only thing growing was their prices and their greed. I have been choosing Pho over any other food for past 18 years and this place truly got it wrong. Let's address the issues one at a time. The size large was the small at Pho 75. The price was 130% more than any other place ($16 for one size). The word build your own has no meaning since you are still forced to take their choices. The only option a customer has is removing items. Adding anything to their preset items is at lease $5 (tendon was $5.90). The food came out looking ok, the amount of protein was decent and although it wasn't the best cut of meat it at least a good amount in the bowl. The soup was very sweet. Please believe me that it was as sweet as a pastry, even though I added lemon and tons of sriracha sauce. As I mentioned the dining area was clean and renovated and the music and the levels of it were great. read more

September 2022 - COVID Review: I honestly didn't expect much when I first came to try this place but was really surprised at how good the pho was! They have screens inside for you to self-order, pay, and then seat yourself. The menu items are a little pricey but that's most likely due to the effects of inflation. Their pho bowls only have one size by the way. My husband and I really like their joy rolls - it's like regular summer rolls but it comes with lemongrass pork (like from the vermicelli bowls) and some smaller spring rolls wrapped inside for a nice added crunch. When we walked in, the nice women in the front told us we can either order through her or on the ipad. We ordered through the ipad because we were still unsure of what to order, and once we were done. The women working said we could sit wherever we like since we were the only ones there. The food was out in a couple of minutes from drinks, appetizers, to entree. From the looks of it, presentation was very important and the food was presented neatly. The food in itself was flavorful, and comforting. I think not even mid-way through I truly knew that this was a well established family owned business because of how warming the service and food was. The vietnamese coffee that we got was so creamy like no other. It had a rich taste of vietnamese coffee beans but the creaminess of the coffee stole the spotlight for us. We absolutely loved it! The shrimp summer rolls were very fresh and did not have any bad quality to it. I will say I prefer when there's also pork strips in the summer rolls, but nothing to complain. The vermicelli noodles with lemongrass chicken and egg rolls was cooked to perfection. The eggs rolls were crunchy with a warm pork filled inside and the lemongras chicken was so flavorful and juicy, I melted. The pho broth was so comforting and had a very home like feel to it. I wish I could have gotten more food but my stomach was too full! Overall, I am very surprised that we were the only ones there. If you are looking for a nice and modern but also warming place to go to try vietnamese cuisine. I don't understand the bad reviews for this restaurant. They give you a lot of noodles but no meat. 1 meat ball and maybe 2 tendon pieces.. and 5 pieces of thin meat. They don't have the egg coffee anymore. I wanted Vietnamese since I haven't had it in awhile. After some research since I didn't know the area particularly well, pho bytes seemed promising. The restaurant was clean and modern. Instead of the usually sit down with service, food was ordered upfront at the register first then served to you. We ordered a rice and noodle dish. Bun Bo Hue - I'm sorry to say this but absolutely no flavor. None at all. The soup was bland even after a couple of spoonfuls. The richness that usually comes from the meat and spices were missing especially without salt to enhance it. The broth tasted liked spiced water. It was so disappointing. I even used the fish sauce from the other dish to supplement the missing flavor. As someone else said "spice and aroma infused water." Marinaded pork w/ egg roll rice dish - typically rice and meat dish. The pork was good but salty so it didn't really need the additional accompaniment of the fish sauce. It was used to try and save the lacking dish. My favorite was the pickled daikon and carrots. I feel responsible since I brought my mom here. I will never stop coming here! The staff is super friendly and fast. Their food is always tasty. I usually get the vermicelli bowls with grilled pork and eggrolls but this time I got something different: broken rice with grilled pork and egg roll, along with bun bo hue. Both dishes made my night and had such great flavor! My favorite appetizer is the shrimp spring rolls as they are different from any shrimp spring roll I've had. Good for: ordering on iPads before seating at a table and seeing realistic photos on the wall. Broth is clean and delicious, noodles are springy, and the lady at the counter took great measures to personalize my experience by seating me and my partner in a lovely sofa surrounded by orchids. Personally I like knowing exactly what the food looks like. My American accent might as well be garbage here and there, which is why Viet places with a classic visual menu are the best. (they actually have a whole wall with huge pictures). all of the meats could use a little more improvement. a little too overcooked is ok; but neither me or my man enjoyed the meat quality in our bun bo hue or pho. unfortunately meat is really important to our taste buds, but I'm sure they'll change the distributor or something soon. read more
