Used to be my favorite dimsum place for years! But last few times I feel like it's going down hill. Most the food on the cart is cold. But I do get seated faster, not much of a wait like before.

Enjoyed dim sum brunch trying various types of dishes! We arrived at 10am and were seated immediately. There were carts with a larger variety of foods to choose from vegetarian, seafood, and meats. The food was delicious and flavorful! It got crowded as time passed and the staff stayed attentive!

I've come to Mark's Duck House multiple times and it's a great place for both Chinese and non-Chinese friends to visit! There aren't official reservations, though you can call ahead of time to book a spot. The restaurant is super accommodating. At one point, I brought 9 friends and they let us all sit on the same round table! All my friends weren't Chinese so it was a new experience for them, and the staff were amazing, suggesting dishes with a range of dishes that a lot of Americans like, stretch dishes, etc. Many dim sum restaurants are rushed, but I really appreciated that the waiter worked with me to figure out the best menu for my friends. The food is really authentic (not flashy, but still good!) - there's an option for dim sum and an option for a la carte. Each of the dishes are super big, but they are on the pricier side. As a result, it's really best to visit when you're with a large group, rather than a small. If it's just two people coming, you'd only be getting 1-2 dishes and wouldn't be able to try much unless you did the dimsum!

Honestly had a more pleasant experience after my first review. There is still always a wait when you come here for dim sum but it's because it's one of the best around the area. For a table for 2 on a weekend with no reservation we probably waited 30 mins to get our table but it was well worth the wait. The staff for dim sum are very fast so as soon as you sit down you can expect to get your drinks and a cart come around immediately. They have a wide range of dim sum to choose from. Some more premium seafood items like clams and lobster expect to pay a higher price. We always leave with leftovers when we come that last a few days so it is well worth it.

Finally stopped in for dimsum on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait long for a table (unlike a certain other dimsum restaurant*cough* hong kong pearl *cough*). As the carts came by we grabbed some classics like shumai, shrimp hargao, shrimp rice rolls, bean curd rolls, and chicken feet. We also decided to be a bit adventurous with the abalone dumplings, roasted duck, fried chive buns, fried stuffed bean curd, and the salted egg yolk buns. We finished off with the sesame balls. All the food was amazing! My only qualm was wishing the roasted duck was warm (it was cold straight off the cart) or that it came with some warm rice at least. But everything else hit. I will say, I recommend grabbing the more fresh hot looking food that comes by because those will be most satisfying. We also loved the sesame balls because they weren't seeping oil like I've had at most other places. Can't wait to stop by again!

Great service and amazing Peking duck. Definitely would be back, it is pricy but the portions are huge so it's worth it

My friend picked this restaurant for dinner tonight. This restaurant definitely has a wide variety of items on their menu. I personally am not a very adventurous eater, so I opted for the vegetable fried rice which was delicious. But if you are looking to try something new, this is definitely a great spot to try. I also ordered spring rolls. However, the chicken looked undercooked to my friend and I. I could not get myself to test them. The staff was very friendly. Overall, a decent experience.

The head staff taking cash with the same hands as touching the dim sum surrounding him at the checkout counter.

I was astounded to see the head staff handling money and food with his bare hands, without washing his hands or wearing gloves while handling the food. He just grabbed the dimsum with his bare hands interchangeably with cash. Also, someone in my party got very sick with nausea and vomiting the day after we ate there. One of the Shu Mai was raw inside and when they complained to the wait staff, they argued with us instead of replacing it. Even though my friend did not continue to eat the Shu Mai, she had already taken one bite. She's been to the ER twice as a result.

I went here for lunch with some friends around Chinese New Year and it was understandably packed. It was my first time visiting Mark's Duck House. It is located in a somewhat shady shopping center in Falls Church. The place is a little old but seems to be quite popular. There are roving carts for dim sum and we just pick dishes we like. I don't remember what we got but I remember getting Peking Duck on top of the dimsum. The staff mostly was nice but apologetic that we cannot stay long as it is a Chinese holiday and there are other customers waiting. Food is really inexpensive. My only complaint was the waiting area isn't spacious enough. Would love to go back soon.

Man I haven't been to Mark's in a minute. Apparently they switched owners/management a couple of times over the past few years. But the new one is doing a great job! The owner kept coming back to check in on our table; he was so funny and personable. We got the $228 meal deal for 6 people. It comes with a total of 8 dishes + dessert. It's a really good deal if you think about it. All of the food -- top-tier. I think we basically cleared out every dish that came out, the only thing we had to pack up was some fried rice and a bit of leftover shrimp I believe. I especially loved the fried crispy chicken with their garlic sauce. It's probably the best Chinese chicken I've ever had. It was so flavorful and the chicken was just the right amount of crisp. What really caught me off guard was the egg tarts. I didn't expect much, but boy was I wrong after the very first bite. Now I know I just said I had the best chicken ever, but trust me when I say these egg tarts were life-changing. It was so buttery and soft-- 11/10 for sure. Definitely will come again when I'm back in the NOVA area!

Really one of the best Cantonese restaurants in the DMV. Since dim-sum is highly regional, its nice to see other aspects of the culture infuse the way that they designed their menu and prepare their foods. This has the great cart service that is slowly dying out in dim sum resturants, but not here! Fully take in and enjoy the carts of vibrantly prepared dishes, by the time we finished our order we got nearly a rainbow of food. We were welcomed with a pot of tea, which their house tea is pu erh, really sophistcated pairing for dim sum. Chicken feet was well dressed and steamed, with a braise that let the collagen nearly fall off the bone. I also like their attention to detail like how they actually split their chicken feet its easy to put in your mouth without a big mess from the other parts interfering. Shrimp filled anything was a major favorite in the table, you could get them in the form of hargow, but we highly reccomend it sandwiched in eggplant that is cooked to the point of almost a custard texture. We got the gailan in oyster sauce, but would have probably preferred the green beans instead, it was a bit on the salty side for the oyster sauce. Radish cakes were just so well portioned with filling and size, with a soft steamed chew from the rice flour. We ordered the beef balls which were made fresh and had that soft texture (no need to split with a knife) and perfumed with orange peel, cilantro, and watercress. Duck was a bit on the bland side for me, but I think its on us to order it when it wasn't its freshest, still you saw people wait just for their roast items. Egg buns had a beautiful sweet runny filling. My favorite was a single cart dedicated to tofu pudding, oh! such a delight with the ginger sauce. We finished our meal with their mango jelly, which was oh so refreshing. Its just so wonderful to see the abundance of this restaurant in seeing food nearly everywhere and to see folks come here and understand the program immediately. Where one restaurant might not make a certain dish, this restaurant certainly has it all with a deep set of Cantonese dishes in their arsenal for the complete cuisine experience. Its one of those places where you eat and leave, don't linger.

I have been coming to Mark's since I was really young with my family, so happy that the quality has stayed the same all these years! I think this is one of my favorite Peking Duck places in the USA - they still do thin pancakes instead of baos, which I really love. Their duck is crispy yet juicy and the sauce is sooo flavorful. If you come here, you have to get the duck if not anything else. Other favorites are the Sizzling Beef w/ Black Pepper Sauce, the Seafood Fried Rice, the Beef Chow Mein, and the Peavine. I think all of their food is awesome and really worth the prices. The staff is very friendly as well :)

I hesitate to rave about this place because it feels like a secret compared the very large, crowded dim sum place up the street. The food was all good and hot and fresh, which is great compared to some other cart dim sum places around here. There were more veggie options I saw, including Chinese broccoli, etc. The shrimp rolls and shrimp dumplings were very good. And the servers were friendly and attentive even amid the crush of people on a weekend AM.

Don't let appearances fool you. They've had zero health code issues despite the food seeming to be just flying around.

Mark's Duck House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Mark's Duck House

Are they open on Sunday?

Yes. Sunday is always their busiest day. That is when everyone goes for Dim Sum.

Is their dining room open for seating? Do they serve dim sum all day?

The dining room is now open. Dim sum is served every day although I am not sure it is available in the evening.

Are there specific hours for dim sum?

Being refurbished. Call for carry-out dim sum

Do you need to pre-order the Peking Duck?

Don't know about during the pandemic, but they never required pre-orders in the past. Great Peking duck, and all their other duck dishes are also excellent -- especially the Orange Duck.

Has anyone else checked their bill lately (from Mark's Duck House) and found a "surcharge" for $8 added to their bill (even though there was no order of tea or a special a dish costing $8)?

My friend is craving dim sum after being in the country, visiting from Hong Kong for 3 weeks. My friend is quite tan, his mom is Filipino, but he grew up in HK and speaks mostly canto and Tagalog. We tried speaking Cantonese to the staff who are speaking it to each other, so they clearly can. My friend has perfect Cantonese. Mine is ok but I am also very clearly Chinese. They replied in broken English instead. One waitress looked at my friend and handed us forks. So clearly, some racism/colorism in the staff. Context: lots of Filipinos in HK are maids and generally looked down on, so not surprised this happened here. The food was mushy and gross. The shrimp in the cheung fan was grayish. It felt like they had this ready early in the morning and reheated it for later. Siu mai was falling apart. Cha siu bao was good but how do you mess that one up? I've gotten take out from this place before in the past and I always forget why I try to not come here, they forget something every time. At this point I'm sure they're doing it on purpose, like little thieves. Anyway, this place has the advantage of being close, with so little dim sum options in the area, unless you want to make the trip to Tysons or Vienna. Or Maryland. One staff member was laying down on a bunch of chairs nearby loudly watching something on her phone. Any other day, I wouldn't complain about that, everyone deserves a break. But given the food quality and the clear racism in the staff, they should be called out for everything. As with any Asian restaurant, feel free to treat me like trash if the food is good. But this place fails in both places.

The prices are quite good and the portions are generous. I had a full second meal the next day without trying. I got the Yangzhou fried rice and it was very well executed. Everything tasted fresh and balanced, with real depth of flavor. This is fried rice done properly. The other dish was listed as spicy fried chicken or something, though it was basically a la zi ji. It was excellent. I loved the peppers, and the spices were very aromatic. The frying was done well, clearly cooked in plenty of oil, so not exactly light food, but extremely satisfying. The chicken was crisp and flavorful, and the overall execution was strong. The food came out fast, the prices were low, and the quality was high, and service was good. So when I got invited to come to lunch here with some friends, I jumped at the opportunity. One of my favorite things about Lazy Mike's is all of their vegan options. The fried tofu was absolutely delicious and their vegan beer batter was perfect. Unfortunately, I had to white pieces of broken plastic that ended up in my mouth. I was very lucky that when I bit down on them, it was at an angle that they didn't go into my gums. I'm not sure if it was in the fried tofu or if it was in the tartar sauce that accompanied. After making the server aware, he was apologetic and offered to put something else in for me. I ordered the vegan chili mac. It was OK. The lentil chili was delicious, but I figured the dish would come with some kind of vegan shredded cheese on it, but it was just a naked lentil chili over a bit of linguine. I asked if they had any kind of a vegan cheese they can melt over the top, assuming that, like their sister restaurant, they would have some vegan cheese slices or something but he said they had nothing. I was also a bit disappointed that the manager never came over to check up or apologize about the sharp shards of plastic in my food. At the end of the day, I'm convinced that my experience was the exception here so I will be giving them another try, mostly because I really want to support vegan-friendly establishments. I probably won't order the vegan chili mac again, though.
