Duck Chang's is truly an Annandale institution, and dining here reminds you why it has stood the test of time. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed and personally taken care of by the owners themselves--a level of hospitality you just don't see often anymore. We started with a combo appetizer platter that arrived piping hot and generously portioned, easily feeding four of us with a great variety of classic appetizers. Everything was fresh, crispy, and clearly made with care. The highlight of the evening was, of course, the Peking Duck. Watching the owner carve it tableside was both impressive and personal, and the duck itself was outstanding--crispy skin, tender meat, and beautifully presented. While the wine selection is limited, we were still able to find a Chardonnay that paired nicely with the meal. Duck Chang's isn't about flashy trends--it's about tradition, consistency, and pride in their food. This is the kind of place that keeps locals coming back for decades. If you want authentic Chinese cuisine, genuine hospitality, and a true Annandale classic, Duck Chang's is a must. read more

An icon in Annandale. This place has been here since my younger years. This was my first visit, thanks to meeting old friends. Service was good. The owners were taking care of orders, service and payments. Food was fresh made. My meal was served hot on a sizzling platter. Everyone in my group seemed to enjoy their meals. read more

Had huge family get together to celebrate the new year on (quieter 2nd weekend). Staff was friendly and smooth - so many orders/requests that came out promptly. It's an old school restaurant, cozy with no frills. Everyone enjoyed the Peking duck, soups, & entrees - the menu is extensive enough from "Americanize" to authentic Chinese. Thanks and happy new year Duck Chang! read more

Great spot for anyone wanting to experience Chinese food in an approachable way. The menu is entirely in English, which makes it very friendly for people who are newer to Chinese cuisine. Their duck is the specialty and definitely the standout -- make sure to order something from the duck menu. It's family-owned, and the service was very attentive and genuinely kind, which made the experience even better. As a Chinese person, it felt like the food and overall setup were more catered toward introducing the culture rather than being intimidating or overly traditional. Every dish came with rice, and the flavors were well-balanced -- not too salty or too sweet. Solid choice for a comfortable, welcoming introduction to Chinese food with excellent duck. read more

An excellent place to get peking duck with no crowds and no frills LOL It's definitely an establishment that has been around for a long time. For some reason, there is a wine bottle at every table as decor? The service was quick, and staff are very friendly! The Peking duck hits the spot here. You can ask for the bones ahead of time to take home! Make sure you ask while ordering/before they throw them away. It's basically as good as Peking Gourmet and cheaper! The Duck Bone Soup was SO GOOD!!! Good flavor and felt very clear and hearty. read more

Great service, we were a party of about 17 and they were very accommodating. Food came out timely even with multiple tables of other customers. The duck was the highlight of the meal. read more

Best Chinese food east of California. The Peking Duck is outstanding, as is the hot and sour soup and many other options. read more

A must visit. My family has been going here since I was an actual baby. Peter is making his father proud Of course, the Peking duck is amazing, but other sides that sound straightforward like the shrimp or the Chinese broccoli are definitely worth the visit. The restaurant itself is very nice, and comfortable at the same time in terms of atmosphere. It's a perfect place to take family or to have a business meeting. Lots of sorts seem to be here :) read more

Genuinely baffled by the bad food. Devoid of all flavor. Every bite just got worse and worse. Unfortunate, cus I was geeked af and super hungry. And so expensive for what you get. read more

Pioneers in Peking Duck and purveyors in many signature dishes! The dining experiences I had here were all incredible. I haven't been here in a while but plan on returning. Sometimes you need to make a trip outside you normal eating establishments and revisit classic ones. read more

I cannot believe I have lived in Annandale and driven past Duck Chang's so many times but had never been, until today. Well thankful hubby and I rectified that today. I think part of why I hadn't been was I have my take out Chinese food location in Annandale & this spot gets put on the parallel with Piking Gourmet. I can see who one might draw that parallel from a menu & specialty standpoint and similar time frame but they have very different feels inside. First Duck Chang's is smaller inside and feels much more personal. We were spoken to by several staff including the lead chef. We both got something new to us and both had positive food experiences. I had the Sha Cha Delight; hubby got the Stir Fried Ho Fun with beef. Because we both enjoyed our meals and were on our way to check on a friend we ordered her a take out meal, she reported a positive experience. We all agreed we would be back. While I'm not sure how I made it so long without a visit one of our New Year's resolutions will be to visit again and repeatedly. If you haven't been you too should resolve to correct that error. read more

Placed a to go order for Christmas Day. This is probably one of their busiest days of the year, but food was ready on time. I also called a few different restaurants in the area before choosing Duck Changs and they were polite and friendly on the phone. Food was good, got Peking duck, seafood pan fried noodles and Lo mein. Looking forward to try dining in one day. read more

If u come to duck changs, splurge and get their duck! Amazing taste and quality and good portion size. Their noodles and hot and sour soup were also very good. I've only ever gotten takeout here but their service is very efficient and wonderful. They package all the food very well so there are no spills. read more

Excellent place for gluten free Chinese. Two of my friends are GF and are always looking for Asian food - this place is great and can make many things on the menu GF. We had the shrimp and chicken fried rice, the beef stir-fry ho fun (wide rice noodles), and sweet and sour chicken. I don't know how they breaded the chicken for the sweet and sour chicken, but it was great! Very crispy and crunchy. The fried rice was tasty and I really liked the ho fun noodles. But best was getting to share a meal that made my friends so damn happy. Plus, the service is fabulous - the people who run Duck Chang's are super nice and personable. read more

The duck itself was deeply flavorful--you can tell it's prepared with immense care and dedication. The skin was shatteringly crisp, yet the meat underneath was incredibly succulent and moist. It's not just a meal; it's a rustic, authentic, and unforgettable taste adventure that sets it apart from any other duck I've ever tried. It has a beautiful, smoky depth that I can't quite describe--you just have to try it! We also tried the spring rolls and some of the vegetable sides, which were all fresh and perfectly executed, but honestly, the duck alone is worth the trip. If you are a duck enthusiast or just looking for an incredible and unique meal, run, don't walk, to Duck Chang. This is a must-try local gem! Highly, highly recommended. read more

Hunan shrimp price $21.5 . Serving came out rice as small as baby fist. The food is in a paper box about medium or large size of mashed potato in Popyes. The owner just gave me a total for $24.24 without any taxes breaking down. Very expensive, I can get the same for $16 somewhere else. The shrimp feels old and sour. How come they can get 4.1 out of 5 in reviews. Possible they buy the review. Also, I saw in the menu the Peking duck whole for $70. The chef cut out in front of my face to fill 1 medium size dish. 1 dish for $70. Oh my God! Never never never again I go here. read more

I was hesitant writing this review because the owners are super nice and service was great! No doubt the Peking duck was on point and delicious so if you are planning to go for the duck then it's all good. However, all the other dishes were sub par, like they missed on seasoning the food. We ordered lo mein, fired rice, and wide noodles and all three lack flavor. The general tso chicken and orange beef was decent. This was first time there in nearly 10 years probably and though the duck remained above average, everything else kind of fell below sadly read more

The Peking duck is good, but everything else sucks. Not sure why people recommend this place. Some food are too salty, while others have no seasonings. I went with a party of 5 and none of us enjoy the food besides the duck. read more

Duck Chang's Restaurant - Whole duck (1/2 peking, 1/2 chop) - Chinese Near Me - Annandale, Virginia

Been going here since the 1990s when we lived in Annandale and still our family's go-to place for Peking duck.

Family run business here, I always drive by this place since I was a kid but it was first time entering it in 20+ years of living in the area. Went for my brother's birthday and family Lunar New Year celebration and enjoyed the experience. Small space but doesn't feel cramp or overcrowded, the service is nice and the workers are extremely friendly and helpful, also funny. Food was great, ordered Peking duck, lo mein, chicken, beef and broccoli, just multiple options for the family. Honestly can't go wrong, think the soup might just be bland, but I prefer savory items. Will definitely come visit again in the future, disappointed I haven't been here before! read more

Duck Chang's Restaurant - Peking Duck (minus the red envelopes, that was from my mother) - Chinese Near Me - Annandale, Virginia

We were disappointed. We ordered a half Peking duck. the skin was not golden but quite brown and a bit burned, The meat was not moist but dry, We were very hungry so we ate it but it was not Peking duck at its best. My guess it was a half left over from the day before - reheating dried out the meat and burned the skin. We will not be back. read more

Located in Annandale on John Marr drive, this restaurant has been here for a long time. Even though I lived in Annandale for a long time, I tried Duck Chang for the first time this weekend. I agree with a review I read about how this place isn't somewhere you go to impress your date bc the interior is outdated. It's not somewhere you'll take your future in laws but it's a nice place you can take your close friends and family. What matters is that the food here was pretty good. The duck here is well cooked, the skin is crispy and the meat is not dry. The string beans are amazing. There is a nice wok hei flavor. The tea was served in individual brewing glasses. My parents really liked it here. I'll be back to try more of their menu. read more

Deliciousness - 5/5 Happiness - 5/5 I know people mainly venture to Annandale for the Korean food. But honestly, Duck Chang's is equally worth a trip for the hand's down best peking duck in Virginia. The hard working family staff is engaging and you're almost certain to meet the owner, who is always makes good conversation. I've had their Chinese food, which comes in generous portions and is worthwhile (particularly the fried rice). But no trip should be had without the peking duck. Simply put, I've searched far and wide for duck as good as this and rarely find it. The pancakes are thin, but sturdy. The plum sauce is excellent and adds even more depth to the experience. The duck is never too fatty and the crispy skin is bursting with flavor. It simply is heaven in your mouth. I also highly recommend the sweet and sour soup. It includes strips of duck, and is a great secret way to get more of their excellent food in your belly. They've been great even with take out. I can't recommend this gem enough. read more

The most bland lo mein and gen tso chicken i think I've ever had. Not sure what type of noodles they use. But this isn't lo mein. All the noodles were less than 2" long and really thin. Won't be going back. read more

Food - 2.5/5 Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 2/5 I've driven by this place for decades and never gave it a try (no real curb appeal). My parents said the last time they ate here was over 30 years ago. While trying to search for a Chinese restaurant close by/last minute (since we now have a small baby) we landed on coming here on Thursday night around 6:30pm based on other Yelp reviews. We were the only ones in the restaurant, which is never a good sign; second sign it might not be what we expected is the menu had no Chinese on it (like for the dish names) just English. Who looked to be the the restaurant owners (a couple), gave us great service from the time we walked in till we left. We ordered half of their "famous" Peking duck, beef and string beans, shrimp fried rice, and the DC Pork. We tried to order Chinese broccoli but they were out of it (funny story, my dad said it wasn't a good sign 30 years ago when he asked for it and they didn't have it at all, only regular broccoli with the head and now, again they don't have it). The best dish was the DC Pork (we love salt+pepper fried pork as a go-to dish at other Chinese restaurants), and this one was strips instead of cut of pork chop. Still good; only downside is the dish is served with pretty much raw white onions on the plate, so not super edible/appetizing. Duck was just okay but a tad dry and the skin was barely crispy/no crunch. Beef and string beans were overly oily and like regular take out quality. The shrimp fried rice was also what you'd expect when you order take out and needed salt/seasoning. The bill total with tax was about $109 (not including tip) for 4 dishes. The dishes were pricier and not as good quality as other Chinese restaurants in the area, and I don't think the half Peking duck was worth it. The decor is kind of standard but plates seemed old and many plastic. The staff (or owners) were sitting really close by on their laptop so it felt weird they so close while we were eating and the only customers there. It was also pretty dark inside so just an odd vibe. Overall a just okay meal, nothing stands out, and most likely won't return. It's not what we wanted or hoped for a more authentic Chinese restaurant and was more of a high priced American Chinese takeout place, imo. read more

The duck is worth the cost and tastes amazing ! The staff is friendly. The dumplings are perfectly made .

We've been coming to Duck Chang's for over 12 years, about once a year for a special meal. The restaurant is run by a family which is welcoming and attentive; it's like stepping into their own dining room. You can get fancier food elsewhere, but if you're looking for comfortable, homemade, traditional, fairly-priced Chinese food (Shanghainese?), this is your spot. Think of your favorite couch growing up...the one that was a little worn, but felt so comfortable when you plopped down. Got the image? That's Duck Chang's. The building is very unassuming, but the constant low rumble in the kitchen assures that you can always count on delicious food being served up. We usually get a 1/2 Peking duck with the fixings and a few other dishes. The DC Chicken is also always yummy - even our 8-year-old can tolerate the heat for that irresistibly salty crunch. The history of Duck Chang and the restaurant is splendid, so be sure to read the website and ask the owners for details while you dine. They are friendly and will kindly share stories if you express an interest. We'll always be back! read more

The food is delicious and the staff welcoming! Superb Peking duck with nice crispy skin and fresh toppings!

Best Peking Duck, pan fried noodles, orange beef, shrimp & broccoli, and bok choy I've had ever! This place is authentic Chinese yumminess.

Absolutely BEST Authentic Pecking Duck in VA. Have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and have visited over 10 places in NOVA for Pecking Duck and fantastic Chinese cuisine. True family tradition Resturant. A MUST TRY for everyone who favors delicious and succulent real Chinese food. read more

My experience with Chinese food growing up in the 80s was largely based on dining in Maryland and occasional foreys to NOVA with my parents. Then I moved to the Seattle area in the early 2000s and discovered Sichuanese Chinese food. I learned how cuisine in China is so regionally diverse with distinctive flavors and cooking techniques. One of my favorite dishes is very difficult to prepare and requires disciplined dedication to the art. Peking duck! I'm grateful to have finally dined at Duck Chang's. Next year is their 50th anniversary and the 2nd generation owner, Peter Chang, continued the legacy started by his father. The family restaurant has been at this location since the beginning and that is amazing! The restaurant is well kept and clean. The decor gives a sense of stepping into a family restaurant with a portrait of Peter's father hanging on the wall in honor of this legacy. Peter is charming and attentive to his patrons. We felt welcomed and well taken care while dining there. I've been making smoked duck every Thanksgiving for the past 3 years. So I love eating duck! At Duck Chang's, the menu has a wide variety of duck dishes. If I lived in NOVA, I would be trying every one of these dishes. This time, I had to have the Peking duck and duck soup. The soup arrived first and it was so flavorful. Better than the duck soup I've had at HK BBQ Master near Vancouver, British Columbia! People in the Pacific NW regularly say the duck soup there is the best, but Duck Chang's surpasses it. Once the Peking duck was served, we saw how expertly cut it was and the presentation was inducing some serious mouth watering. I opened the lid holding the wraps and was amazed to learn these were all handmade wraps. Even the sauce was made painstakingly from scratch. The duck itself was so well done, balancing flavor, crisp skin, and tender meat. It is easily among the best Peking duck I've ever had! There is no pretentiousness here at Duck Chang's. Peter is down-to-earth and understands well that this tradition passed down to him may become a lost art in the future. Hard working immigrants started this restaurant and their son has honored the legacy of this cuisine along with his staff. I highly encourage people who are reading this review and haven't had eaten at Duck Chang before to give it a try. Duck is so popular in other parts of the world, but isn't widely eaten in the U.S. because of how much space is needed compared to chicken. But duck is a superior poultry with a deep rich flavor with more dark meat. Peking duck is one of the elevated duck dishes to experience and it's great to have other duck dishes to partake in at Duck Chang. You're in for a real treat! read more

I ordered a couple of meals. My coworkers and I enjoyed them especially duck and fried chicken rice.

You know you have good Chinese food when you see Chinese folks dining at a restaurant. I stopped in today during my lunch break and enjoyed lunch. Peter was our server and was very friendly and down to earth. I told him what I was in the mood for and that I like spicy and he suggested I have the Bang Bang shrimp was warm and tasty! Came here on a Sunday. The place was pretty much empty except one two other customers. No surprising since the restaurant is located in an odd location. That being said the food was good. We ordered the duck and some string beans. The skin was crispy and the meat wasn't dry. They also gave us just the right amount of wraps. Watered were refilled and staff was pleasant. The decode here is out dated so not a place you want to go to impress, but if you want to get some duck in a casual low key no hassle location without a line, this is the place. read more

The yum yum pork was delicious -- can't wait to get it again. The Szechuan green beans were garlicky and flavorful and also worth repeating. Bang bang tofu was a miss for me (not much flavor, since no sauce). Decor in the restaurant could use a little freshening up. Will likely explore more offerings through future takeout orders. read more

Trash food. No flavor at all and the chicken was like chewing on rubber. Do yourself a favor and please read the reviews

This rating is strictly on their Peking duck to-go order. Not what I expected for a $50 ducks. Meat and skin were dumped into the Chinese carry out cartons. They didn't even put an effort into arranging it onto a foil tray. Meat were sliced very thick which was hard to roll. I was hugely disappointed and upset at myself for giving them a chance. If you had a chance please check oil Rice Pot, their duck isn't Peking Gourmet but much better than this mess. Their price is a little cheaper too. read more

I love this place! This is definitely a family run business. The owner is always the guy who cuts up our duck. He is very friendly and so are his family members that work here too (wife and mom??).
