I love this place! This is definitely a family run business. The owner is always the guy who cuts up our duck. He is very friendly and so are his family members that work here too (wife and mom??). First time ordering from here. We Ordered two orders of fried rice and an order of sesame chicken they came in lunch special containers which I thought was odd seeing as we paid $50. Sesame chicken is usually my go to when i opened the container it looked more like orange chicken or general tso. The sauce had a hint of orange flavor in it with a weird balance of sweetness. They also mixed cabbage with the chicken which is something I've never seen before. The chicken fried rice was decent but the chicken was cut in chunks instead of how other Chinese places cut their chicken. I've been going to Duck Chang's since I was in High School and it's never disappointed. It's not a large place and the decor hasn't changed in as long as I can remember but the food and service are great! My son has Celiac disease so there aren't as many options for him as the rest of us, but Duck Chang's is known for their gluten free accommodations. My son and I went there this past week, and as always it was an excellent experience. A couple of Christmases ago my kid's and I went to Duck Chang's for a late lunch, early dinner. The place was packed so we had a while to wait but we were happy to. When we were seated and mentioned my son's condition, the owner (I believe) said that they were so busy that they wouldn't be able to do a gluten free meal because they have to clean the pans and utensils to cook with to avoid contamination; but in the same breath he said they would do it. Expensive Peking duck... you might as well go to Peking Gourmet Inn. We heard good things about the duck, so we decided to give it a try, and we had sticker shock when we saw the check at the end. Duck Chang's is located at the end of a pretty small run down shopping center strip, so there is a decent amount of parking. We were kind of surprised that we were recommended to come here based on the appearance outside and inside. The restaurant definitely needs to modernize the interior because it's pretty dark inside and gives you 1980s vibes, and I wasn't even born in the 80s... The staff is very friendly and attentive, but the food did not bring a huge smile on our faces. It was all pretty much okay... the Peking duck is cut by the owner into pretty large pieces of meat and thin, crispy skin separately. The pancakes that come with the duck are very thin and the sauce is thick and pretty sweet. The hot chili oil is spicier than other Chinese restaurants, since it has a little kick to it, but if you want more of a kick with jalapeños, it will cost you. We also ordered orange beef, but it tasted more like General Tso's style. The Chinese broccoli had a bitter taste. The Seafood noodles didn't have much seafood, but it had a lot of sauce with not much flavor. Each dish comes with a small bowl of brown rice. You won't find better Peking Duck anywhere, period. I used to live in Philadelphia in the 80s and frequented Joes Peking Duck (no longer exists) which was absolutely fabulous. Duck Chang's is the only place in the USA that rivals Joes. I don't even normally eat duck (I eat vegetarian 99% of the time) but it's so damn delicious I get over the fact that the poor duck died for me to enjoy it. read more

What a find! I haven't been able to eat Chinese food without worrying for years! This is the first Chinese restaurant I've been to where the menu items are marked for gf. The staff came over and explained which items were at risk of cross contamination, which was so refreshing as many restaurants don't even know about that risk. It was quiet and had a family feel. My husband said it's the best Chinese food he's had. The food and ingredients were fresh. It wasn't oily or salty like most Chinese restaurants. He had Kung pao chicken and beef with broccoli. This restaurant is safe for those who are gluten sensitive or with celiac disease. About 80% of the menu can be made gluten free. There's only 1-2 items on the appetizer menu that can be made gluten free. I ordered gluten free chicken and broccoli. The sauce tasted slightly different than regular chicken and broccoli because it's a gluten free sauce but it was really good. I would order it again. I didn't order anything fried because the fryer is shared with gluten food items. I was a little shocked that the price of 3 meals was $50. Seems a little higher than most Chinese spots but the quality is fantastic and it's safe for people with celiac disease. read more

My recent visits here have been with a group of about 10 for lunch on Saturdays. This is a sit down restaurant with table cloths. They have an extensive menu typical of Chinese restaurants. As their name suggests, their specialty is duck. I am not a duck fan so I order selections not involving duck. On my most recent visit I had tofu General Tso stye. It came with rice and vegetables. It was decent. The service was friendly and helped members of the group make selections that satisfied some dietary restrictions. I seem to recall that this restaurant was once very popular and highly rated (for its duck specialties) but now appears to be past its prime. The interior is showing age. Not being a duck fan, the restaurant doesn't stand out from others. I suspect that my group will continue to use this as a meeting place but I probably would not return otherwise. read more

We were excited for chinese food and ordered from Duck Chang's through Door Dash. We ordered dumplings, wonton soup, egg drop soup, hunan beef meal (included egg roll, rice, wonton soup), and the general tso meal (also included egg roll, rice, and we chose egg drop soup). Unfortunately, the hunan beef meal didn't make the delivery, so we didn't have a chance to try it. I read that the dumplings were great, but I can't disagree more. We have come here multiple times and it is wonderful for gluten free! It is so rare to find good gluten free Chinese food. The staff is very knowledgeable about everything, it seems like someone on the staff must be GF. I'm sure we will be back many more times. When my boyfriend orders something "gluten rich" they always make sure to mention it when they bring it to the table, and clarify what we can share and what I should avoid. I went to Peking Inn many times and today I decided to try Duck Chang. The whole purpose for me and my husband to come here was for the Peking duck, however, it was pretty disappointed. I agree with many other reviewers, the duck was pretty dry. Not like Peking Inn, you can tell their duck was made fresh daily, it worth that much money. Duck Chang's Duck must roasted a while ago, froze then defrosted when customer ordered it. The skin of Peking Duck supposed to be super crispy and juicy. Duck change's duck had crispy skin but was pretty dry. Their pancake had very weird smell and taste, like the flour to make the pancake they used has been expired a while ago. For this kind of quality for the Peking duck(not made fresh daily), it's definitely over priced. They should sell it the same price(around $25 for whole duck) like other Chinese restaurants. I would not recommend you order Peking duck here. It's my first time here, but last time too. I would rather go to Peking Inn. Plus the restaurant was very outdated, the bathroom......you don't want to stay there for one minute. read more

Duck's was legendary back when I used to go there regularly 40 years ago, and when I found myself uncharacteristically in the DC area for a night, it's the one place I wanted to revisit for a meal. I remember the storefront as being somewhat more impressive, not a tag end to the rundown suburban strip mall the block has become, but I don't go there for the architecture. It's true that the interior harks back to the Reagan era, but I didn't even go for the charming and comforting decor. I went for the duck, and I was not disappointed. The skin is still perfectly crispy, the meat is still pleasantly non-greasy. My wife and I also shared a plate of fish fillet in hot sauce. Though it wasn't the crispy fish we assumed it would be, the fish itself was delectable and the sauce was perfect. I'm back locally in the area, and there are many restaurant options here. I went there for old time childhood nostalgia; and my love for their great Chinese food was renewed. Usually at most Chinese food places, they only offer a few gluten free items and not many offer gluten free soy sauce. Duck Chang's can make 80-percent of their menu gluten free. For actual Celiac people; they shut down their whole line, clean and wash their line, and do the meal so cross contamination can be kept lower. They ask if for Celiac, to not come during the busy times so they can accommodate (( which is understandable! )). 4.5 stars After seriously craving some peking duck, I came here with some family for my birthday. We ordered the whole peking duck, firecracker shrimp, and pan-fried dumplings. They don't carve the duck in front of you like some other places; instead, they just serve it to you on a plate along with the wrap and vegetables. The skin was beautifully crispy as it should be and the meat was moist. The dumplings were very tasty. I thought the firecracker shrimp was a tad salty for myself but I enjoyed the flavor. This place is serving to-go Peking duck! I was happily surprised that it was much better than another well known Chinese restaurant in the area. It was actually fantastic. The only thing I didn't really care for were the leeks or spring onions. I can't remember what it was. They were thinner than what I am used to and didn't taste like what I am used to. I picked this place because the Washington Post said it kept the crispy skin crispy, even on takeaway orders. This seems like a simple thing to do but the other restaurant doesn't do this right and the skin ends up soggy. If you are craving Peking duck during COVID, I highly recommend this place.
