    "Crispy" "Shredded" Chicken

I ordered Crispy Shredded Chicken, which was supposed to be "hot and spicy" and it was none of the above. The chicken was floppy (not crispy) was cut into chunks (not shredded), and was drowning in sweet sauce (not remotely spicy). This is one of the "Chef's Specials" and it failed to deliver. I added to my order the vegetable lo mein, which had three pieces of undercooked broccoli, a few pieces of sauteed onions, two or three pieces of mushroom, and one piece of shredded carrot. Clearly the vegetables were an afterthought. The noodles themselves were oily and flavorless. At least this dish I can "plus up" to save it. Likely my adolescent child will eat the sickly sweet chicken. I hope they don't get too attached tho, cuz I am not going back to Szechuan Star.

This was a quick and efficient takeout. I probably overestimated how Szechuan it was, as compared to the last place I went for this cuisine. The tofu they delivered was a fairly basic brown sauce dish, but it had an appealing vegetable mix and there are many times where I wanted this sort of dish done this well and didn't find it. Ordering some vegetable dumplings proved to be a good decision as well as there were plenty of them and they had a nice mix. A solid takeout experience, and they had a nice vegetarian selection and lunch specials.

I've had lunch at Szechuan Star a few times and have also ordered takeout many times, and I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The food and service have always been top-notch, never disappointing. It's a small restaurant, but it's clean and cozy, with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly and always goes above and beyond, paying attention to every detail to ensure customers are happy. The food is consistently delicious, and the prices are unbeatable, especially with their lunch specials. For anyone local, this spot is a must-try if you're craving flavorful Chinese food with excellent service!

Family was craving some Chinese food and was eager to try this place. A great price with healthy portions, but overall the dishes were all bland to us. It required adding soy sauce and hot oil to give it a little more taste. We may try again on another day. Enjoy!

I almost forgot about Szechuan Star, and I'm so glad that I remembered them to try for lunch! Their menu offers various hot and cold appetizers, soups, moo shi items, fried rice, lo mein, chow mein, poultry/pork/beef/lamb/seafood/vegetable entrees, house specialties, and lunch combos. My family and I came here for an earlier lunch, and we ordered: +Crab Rangoon - came with 6; they were crispy and filled generously with the cream cheese and imitation crab mixture; no sauce is provided, but there are plenty of sauces at the table! +Kung Pao Beef lunch combo - the combo specials run from Monday to Friday, and you choose between a vegetable spring roll or egg roll; white rice or plain fried rice; and, soup or a can soda +Crispy Shredded Beef - this was not overly cooked and it wasn't that sweet, which was great! Generous portion! Don't forget to ask for their house mustard - it is thick, creamy, and has the right amount of heat to add to your dishes! Service was so kind, friendly, and attentive - our hot tea was never out, and all the food came out, made-to-order and piping hot! Everything tasted fresh and made with love! For dessert, we had fresh orange slices and yummy sugar donut bites - NOM! I am definitely a fan of this place and would love to try the rest of their menu the next time - definitely will be adding this to our meal rotation! The restaurant is decorated well, super clean, and very warm & inviting. There's plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot. Thank you, Szechuan Star! +made-to-order tasty fare! +super kind & friendly staff! +soothing complimentary hot tea! +plenty of parking in the plaza lot

I have to admit the quality has gone down a tiny bit (some of the food's a little dry, slightly smaller portions, namely the scallion pancake duck roll was mostly veggies instead of meat), but it's still a spot I really enjoy going to for some homey food. You can choose between thick and thin for your noodle soups and I honestly like both even tho I usually like thick noodles. Their soups are nice and brothy, not too rich which I like. I've tried most of the food on the menu and it covers the bases for when you're feeling something more light or something more filling.

We tried A&J and liked it a lot!…read more This is not a typical Chinese-American restaurant. A&J has quite a few pleasantly unexpected dishes. Service was welcoming and efficient. On a mid-Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was about ¾ full. We started out with the Wonton Soup and the Spicy Wonton soup. The Wonton soup is just okay, but the Spicy Wonton Soup is wonderful and highly recommended. For another appetizer, we ordered the Scallion Pancake. It has a nice dense texture and I really liked it. It would've been even better if it came with a dipping sauce. We also ordered the pickled cabbage. It was good, though lacking seasoning. Our first entrée was ground pork in a delicious sauce accompanied by sprouts and thinly sliced cucumber (or was that zucchini?). Recommended! Our second entrée was a Pan Fried Beef Bun. The beef was flavorful but the bread was kinda dry. Our last entrée was the Beef Wraps. These were great! Who woulda thunk that beef and fresh carrots would go together so well?! Oh, the chili sauce in a jar on the table is extra tasty. At the end, before we got our check, we were given a plate with sliced cucumbers in a light tasty sesame chili sauce. Excellent! But the hot tea was an epic fail. It had no flavor whatsoever. Peeking inside the teapot, all I could see was a micro tiny tea bag floating or sort of sinking. One other thing I kinda don't want to bring up in light of the great food we enjoyed, but need to in the spirit of full disclosure, is to mention that A&J shares space in the building with several other businesses. The restrooms are common to all the businesses. A&J needs to lean hard on the property owner/manager to do a deep cleaning in those restrooms. I'll leave it at that.

However, my server said lunch actually goes until 2:30pm. A casual ambience. I notice that the staff constantly keeps their eyes on the customers. Not a big deal, but not something you see every day. There's a lot of lunch specials. I picked the beef fried rice. It comes with banchan and miso soup. The beef fried rice was very good. What was especially good was the delicious black bean sauce that came with the rice. I thought the tasty miso soup was excellent, very rich and silky. Banchan was kimchi, Danmuji fruit and slices of white onion. Accompanying the banchan was a dipping sauce that was similar to, but not the same as the black bean sauce. I will definitely be back.

The dining area is well lit with a kinda open floor plan with a half wall separating the sides. I came in New Year's Eve ~3pm and other patrons were picking up take-away orders. I love the rice they use and the other ingredients are always fresh. They are generous with their portions. The chicken fried rice comes with a side of fresh onions and I some kind of pickled daikon (I think), a little tart, a little sweet and a nice crisp bite. Super yummy!
