Like another user posted, it is best to eat in while your food is still steaming hot and the most appealing. Cost, convenience and overall consistent taste are the high points at China King, I have tried other places for Shrimp and Lobster Sauce but this place gets it right every time. They were more than happy to give me extra fortune cookies. I am going to dismiss the fact that they may treat me nicer than some of these other yelpers because I am Asian but here we are. A family favorite located off Leesburg Pike in the same center with Trader Joe's. Parking can be limited as it is shared with the other businesses within the center. A very clean restaurant with friendly staff. Portions are hefty and the prices are lower than the average. The dishes were prepared to order and were delicious! Will definitely be back. First, the atmosphere was dirty and uncomfortable. From the moment I walked in, the energy was off. The little man who claimed to be the manager was extremely rude--no greeting, no professionalism, and clearly irritated that I had questions. I was rushed to order, and when I asked about menu items, he was completely unhelpful and dismissive, saying everything was "popular" instead of actually answering my questions. I specifically explained that I was asking because I didn't want to have to return the food. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. I ordered a combination platter with General Tso's chicken, fried rice, and an egg roll. After sitting down for less than two minutes and tasting it, the food was terrible. The fried rice was bland, and the chicken didn't even resemble General Tso's--no flavor and very poor quality. I went back to the counter, politely asked for the manager, returned the food, and requested a refund. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the little man who claimed to be the manager argued with me and outright refused to refund my money--even after taking the food back. I paid $14.25 for food I could not eat and customer service that was unacceptable. I ultimately had to dispute the charge with my bank to get my money back. To be clear, I wasn't expecting anything unreasonable--I simply wanted decent food and basic customer service. I ended up going to Mama's Taste in Fairfax City, and it was chef's kiss. Great food, great service, zero regrets. Between the filthy atmosphere, terrible food, rude management, and refusal to issue a refund, I would not recommend China King V to anyone. I've been getting food from this place since I was a little kid and they had their location in Herndon. I love this place! It's sad to see only the Tysons location open now. I'm not sure if they've changed owners or what, but I have noticed within the past year that the food tastes different and the prices have gone way up. Food portions have also changed too. Ordered shrimp lo mein (no veggies) and shrimp & broccoli. My toddlers (3.5 & 2yr old) really loved it! They ate almost half of each meal all by themselves. Getting the kids to eat veggies is already hard enough and they just gobbled up the broccoli no problem. It was very delicious! read more

I found myself having to go to Falls Church and took the opportunity to get takeout from the China King location here. I live in western Fairfax County and have kind of been craving China King since they closed the Fairfax Towne Center location a few years ago (as well as the Herndon one!). The food is what it is: Americanized Chinese takeout. To expect something else is unreasonable. My grandparents owned a restaurant and served Americanized Chinese food. They also served full American breakfasts , hamburgers, pork chops, and a really good chicken fried steak. But that was not the Chinese food my grandmother made at home for the family. China King has been in NoVa for over 2 decades and they continue to be consistently satisfying. Also, no one goes to China King for the dine-in ambiance and service. Please don't expect it to be good. The food is what counts. I ordered hot and sour soup, twice-cooked pork, shrimp lo mein, green beans with dried tofu, and eggplant in garlic sauce. The hot and sour soup was good as usual - a little tang, a little spice, and jammed with ingredients. I think there used to be wood ear fungus in this, but apparently not any longer. This is something you should finish while it's hot during the first meal. The leftovers will be starchy and clumpy. Twice-cooked pork was also very good, with large pieces of pork and napa cabbage swimming in that dark slightly sweet, slightly spicy sauce. I think I even tasted a little bit of wok hei in this dish. The chicken fried rice is unbeatable! Generously packed with thin slices of white meat chicken, it's a tasty carb load that you can shovel into your mouth. The shrimp lo mein was fine. It had a decent amount of small shrimp and a light flavor - one that is a magnitude greater than the flavorless lo mein from Panda Express. Surprisingly, my daughter said that it wasn't oily enough. So if you want an oilier version, go to Hunan Cafe in Greenbriar Town Center. The eggplant in garlic sauce was just okay. It has a distinct tomato flavor which I'm not used to. The standard that I measure this dish against is the one from Hunan Cafe. The green beans and dried tofu was good. It also comes in that dark slightly sweet sauce. I wish there was more dried tofu in this dish - it was about 75% green beans. I think I detected a bit of wok hei here, as well. I hope China King remains in business for years to come since they fill a vital niche here in the NoVa Chinese takeout ecosystem. I'd hate to have to resort to Panda Express for my fried rice/lo mein needs. read more

Your lunch special portion is small. The food is cooked fresh on the spot. But be aware manager/owner eliminated cold ice water to accompany your meal. Your forced to bring in your own water. Cheap eats, but not worth it. The quality at this location was not good. The orange chicken was terrible - it tasted like they used Tang orange mix for the sauce. I want to hear years ago, and the food is terrible. I recently decided to give it another try. The food was amazing this time, and service was extremely fast. China King is a solid 3+ stars -- an in-between restaurant -- definitely a notch better than the typical cheap Americanized Chinese greasy take-out joint, but not as good as the authentic Cantonese restaurants one can find a few miles down Route 7 in Seven Corners. If you like junk like general tsos chicken, sweet and sour, lo mein, and fried rice, then I can't help you. This place is as good as the next. If you like vegetables, or dishes that are a little bit more authentic, then with a little discretion you can find a satisfying cheap meal at China King. There are plenty of options that include green beans, cabbage, and tofu of one form or another. The sauces can be a little heavy handed but it's all cooked fresh and the prices can't be beat. Lunch is an even better deal. Your food will come in a Styrofoam container with a giant scoopful of rice plopped on top. When we had gotten our order, I had asked for extra spicy dressing and the lady straight up told me "No!" and walked away from me. Watch your wallet! Their cash register doesn't provide paper receipts and that's because they cheat you. We've been going here for over 10 years and have overlooked a $3 overcharge here or a $4 overcharge there, figuring that we simply were not that good at math in our heads. Tonight they overcharged us by $10. I did the math on paper and the overcharge was that dramatic. The food is usually ok, they have a variety of vegetarian dishes but lately food has been bad. Veg soup only has 2 tablespoons of veggies per 16 oz of broth. The fried rice was burned. Even for their posted low(ish) prices, this is not acceptable. This lady was super rude. The other lady was trying to put our order in with the kitchen while she helped another customer on the phone. She was extremely rude to her co worker that was just trying to help us. My friend has ordered the same thing every time & was introducing me to this place. Just to have bad experience. I asked my friend if he was sure he still wanted to order food there & the lady was just rude ringing in stuff then slamming the register closed and reringing random prices & yelling back and forth with her co worker. When i asked her for soy sauce she had grabbed two packets and only gave me 1. I said oh can i not have the other one? Have come here regularly since I moved to the area. At first it seemed like a great place to get quick, inexpensive food. My past two visits will be my last. The food was okay, definitely not as good as when I first started coming and there seems to be no consistency with how much food you are going to get anymore. Additionally, the past two times I have visited I have been overcharged based on their listed menu prices. Once I was overcharged by a little over a dollar. I thought I might have added wrong and didn't give much thought to it. The second time I was overcharged by almost four dollars. If their prices had gone up I would have been okay with paying them. I have been to another one of their chain restaurants and it was literally the same quality of food so I'm glad they kept that consistent! The only reason I'm bumping off a star was because I felt that the Empress chicken was more of Empress rice & veggies with some chicken. In short, there wasn't that much chicken. So that was the main downside. There was also sooo much rice that was given in this dish. Reference the pictures. The orange chicken was yummy!! I'm so glad I got it! There was so much and it even came with rice! My only complaint would be that some pieces were a little hard and too dry. But I don't extremely mind becauee it is cheap Chinese food and it's reminiscent of childhood. 'I would definitely get fattening Chinese food here again! They also do delivery! I have been a loyal China King Disciple for almost 20 years.  I have eaten in all locations and my meal tally is easily in the hundreds. Without any hyperbole this is the best Chinese food in the world. The portions, flavors, price and menu is second to none. The only negative thing I can say is that this will ruin all other Chinese restaurants for you. Very sad that many of the branches seem to be closing- I may need to step in and invest to keep them going (not a rich man but can't imagine life without this chinese food!). The lo mein, fried rice, KUNG PAO are incredible but I have yet to have a bad item on the menu. Everyone I take there is always skeptical about my praises but leaves a believer.
