I went to get a facial and saw an older Asian woman cleaning freshly picked vegetables outside. When I came back out she was still at it and I saw several deliveries go in and out so I went in. It's a small spot that smelled absolutely amazing! As soon as I went in I knew the 5 year search for the best Chinese food in Northern VA had come to a close with a clear winner ! Since my last review, the service has improved tremendously. Their website works again and the person at the register goes the extra mile not only to ensure you have the right order but also wears gloves when giving you your order. Wow! I was impressed with this Chinese food establishment in McLean. Looking for Chinese style food Yelp again proved its value and the great ratings are well warranted though a bit dated. I generally find Chinese food to be a "craving" rather than a well planned meal but this food was so surprisingly good! Not too much sauce, great looking though sparse fresh vegetables , and noodles not soggy with oil, chicken thst was cooked to perfection. I was really really surprised and pleased. Oh, prices were incredibly reasonable. It's a tiny place with maybe 2 tables so definitely a take out place. Been ordering from here for years and the food was great. Today I ordered and they have new ownership. Food was awful. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon greasy and soft. Beef teriyaki was dry and only filled 1/3 of the skewer. Wonton soup tasted oxidized/stale. Pork lo mein with just a few pieces of pork in it and very bland. Crispy spicy beef that was all breading. Finally we drove over to see what was going on - they told us there was an issue with their online ordering system & our order was lost. This was a on-the-whim-find, and boy am I glad we found it! we called in a delivery order and it came in 30 minutes, the food was hot, crispy, and so delicious. As starters, we got an order of the hot & sour soap which was fresh and the perfectly spiced with an abundance of crackers for a double order. We also ordered vegetable rolls which were hot from the fryer, not too greasy, crunchy and paired perfectly with the mustard and duck sauce. For the main dishes, we ordered the beef lomein which again, wasn't as greasy as most Chinese restaurants serve - a very generous amount for the cost. Lastly, General Tso (our favorite of the order) it was not layers and layers of breading oozing in mediocre sauce. It was lightly battered, flavored to perfection with juicy tender chicken. Overall we were blown away because it's hard to find decent Chinese food in this area. The food is fresh and you can taste it in the integrity of the chefs cooking. Hunan Express does not cease to amaze. The people who work there, have smiles thats are infectious, they are so friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. I tried the Basil Beef last week and it may be my new favorite dish from Hunan Express. I just placed an order tonight for dinner and ordered the Basil Beef again. Some of our favorite dishes. Basil Beef Beef with snow peas Mongolian Beef Sweet and sour pork Orange Beef Pad Thai Egg Rolls Shrimp Egg Foo Young Chicken Lo Mein There is another Chinese restaurant we ordered from all the time in the Tysons area. I'm so happy my husband found this place. We were craving Chinese food and this hit the spot. We called for pick up and the order was ready to go in time. The general tso chicken was not too bread-y, chow fun had a lot of vegetables alongside our chicken, and the pork fried rice was not overcooked. My kids even enjoyed most of it, and they can be picky at times. It also did not leave me feeling bloated like some other places do. This place used to be the best Chinese food in the DMV. In my opinion. And I consider myself to be a Chinese foodie. Not sure if a pandemic had much to do with it but the quality of the food has unfortunately gone considerably down in the past six months to a year. They used to have the best vegetarian dumplings for example. Homemade. Now they seem to be out of a bag of frozen dumplings that one can buy at the local Asian grocery store. The fried rice is just basically day-old rice tossed in soy sauce and strips of meat. No egg, no bean sprouts, no peas, nothing. Dry and inedible, unfortunately. I hope that they take pride again in their cuisine as they used to before and go back to their origin. Finally, unfortunately they have a tendency to get orders wrong. Never knew this place existed and Ive lived in Mclean all my life! I tried it out and surprisingly it was good and I will definitely be back. My mother had dental work so I got 3 soups which were all fantastic and I got white meat kung pan which was great and the only thing I would change is the sweetness of the kung pao. We came here in the afternoon, and I ordered my usual beef and broccoli. My friend got the black pepper chicken meal. Since we came here for lunch only the prices were somewhat less. When we showed up, there was another customer seated at a table, so we didn't have much trouble finding a table. This place has limited seating mind you. We placed our order and waited less than 8 minutes for the food to be prepared. I think the actual time to prepare everything was less than that, and it was all good, we were relaxed and chatting it up. This place is so fresh and delicious! We are vegetarian and they do a fantastic job with veggies here! We always request no bell peppers and they are so kind to accommodate. There are a lot of other veggies in their kitchen! We often get asparagus and broccoli and carrots! It's obviously made to order. The veggie protein options are very tasty too.
