Hunan Express phone number and lunch menu. 12/25/2025

I have been to all the Chinese restaurants in the McLean (22101) zip code and this place has the best kung pao chicken. Parking is free though has only two tables but quick access to the front door for pick-ups. They also deliver. 703/ 821-9000

Wow! I was impressed with this Chinese food establishment in McLean. Looking for Chinese style food Yelp again proved its value and the great ratings are well warranted though a bit dated. I generally find Chinese food to be a "craving" rather than a well planned meal but this food was so surprisingly good! Not too much sauce, great looking though sparse fresh vegetables , and noodles not soggy with oil, chicken thst was cooked to perfection. I was really really surprised and pleased. Oh, prices were incredibly reasonable. It's a tiny place with maybe 2 tables so definitely a take out place. Lack of vegetables and small dining area was the minus one star but for Chinese places this is a definite go-to! I'll be back!!

    Wrapped with loving care!

Ordered takeout after I discovered my favorite Chinese place closed early. Got the wonton soup, vegetable dumplings, meat dumplings, moo goo gai pan, and Egg rolls. The wonton soup had the meat dumplings in them. I preferred the vegetable dumplings. I really liked the egg rolls. The moo goo gai pan was also delicious. It came with plenty of rice. They adhered to Covid protocol.

Delivery never arrived due to a 'glitch' in their system.

This was our go-to Chinese place until the day the food never arrived. We called repeatedly and nobody answered the phone. Finally we drove over to see what was going on - they told us there was an issue with their online ordering system & our order was lost. Although we'd waited 2 1/2 hours, there was no apology & no offer to make the food. They complained they were 'slammed' and at 730 pm our order would need to be cancelled. I doubt we'll give them another chance. Mistakes happen but they were completely unwilling to make this right, completely ruining our Christmastime for the Jews

We love…read morePadaek in Falls Church, but are always on the hunt for other restaurants to get our fix of funky, fresh salads with sticky rice. Esaan's menu of unique dishes, including multiple varieties of larb and papaya salad, piqued our interest. We visited the restaurant for a quick weeknight dinner, and were surprised to find the small dining room half full. Our server appeared to be the only staff on duty, but nonetheless expeditiously took our order and brought out our food. We opted for three items: the corn salad, the somtum muor, and the yum kai zap. This order ended up the ideal amount of food for us. We received the corn salad first. Sweet corn kernels arrived tossed in a spicy lime dressing accented by chunks of green beans and salted egg. I wish the salad came with more salted egg, but the sweet-savory-sour combination brought plenty of flavor. The somtum muor is described as an Essan style papaya salad with the addition of noodles, extra vegetables, and pork sausage/crackling. I did not detect any of the promised pork in the salad, but we nonetheless truly enjoyed this fiery and funky item. The dish is not for the faint of heart as it utilizes fermented fish sauce and lots of chilis, but we love these flavors and kept going back for more. Finally, the yum kai zap is best described as fried chicken larb. Juicy, tender, and lightly fried chunks of boneless chicken are tossed in toasted rice powder, chilis, onions, and herbs. The fried chicken itself carried a perfect battering which felt light and fluffy while remaining crisp throughout our meal. The nutty and herby seasonings complimented the chicken pieces quite well. The dish came with a tasty side of black sticky rice, which additionally paired well with our other salads. Our bill totaled $50, which we felt was fair given the quality and quantity of food. We are already planning our return visit for more intensely flavorful Northern Thai food, and look forward to sampling more of the menu at Esaan.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated with lots of seating. The food is really good! We were a larger group, so I got to try several dishes. I particularly enjoyed the papaya salad, fried tilapia filet (with sweet and sour sauce, and garlic chili sauce), and pineapple fried rice. I don't eat meat, but my family also enjoyed the crispy duck and panang curry with chicken. The portions are generous - I think everything but the curry would serve 2 people. We ordered the kanom jeeb, crispy duck basil, and Pattaya noodles. The kanom jeeb (2/5) had a thin wonton skin with a generous meat filling and looks similar to siu mai if you're familiar with dim sum, but the dumplings themselves lacked flavor and really relied on the dipping sauce to carry the dish. The crispy duck basil (2/5) was flavorful and true to their spice level, but the batter made the duck a bit dry. The Pattaya noodles (3/5) claim to be topped with jumbo crab meat, though it was more of a light sprinkle. However, the dish was packed with seafood and included some nice jumbo scallops, which helped make up for the lack of crab. Overall, flavorful dishes but a few misses in execution.

However, if we could go back in time, I think we would have ordered a Level 1 mildly spicy version of Pad See-Ew instead. Overall, the highlight of the meal was dessert (Mango and Sticky Rice), which we both devoured and is . highly recommended if you're dining in. Finally, Metro garage parking was free on weekends!

Sounds delicious? That's because it is. The tastes of soft pastries were good, good good, good good. I enjoyed my Curry Puff without the vinegar sauce myself. However, if there were an option, I would dip it into a blue cheese sauce or ranch dressing sauce. This might be looked at as sacrilege to die hard culinary enthusiasts, yet as they say, "varieties of spice of life." Veggie Spring Rolls $7.65: These three little pigs are not made if Pork incase you are confused. The are stuffed with Glass Noodles, Cabbage, Carrot, Celery, Taro and served with a Sweet & Sour Pineapple Sauce. This tasty appetizer was good, but I felt a pork option would greatly impact my taste buds. Guess I am a carnivore at heart at times. Kanom Jeeb Dumpling $8.75: Five Pieces of Minced Shrimp , Chicken, Cilantro, Corn, Garlic, Scallion wrapped in a thin Wonton Skin and steamed or deep fried to perfection?! It is also served with a Honey Soy Sauce. However, I can not remember having this on the second day. Nevermind, I went back to Kiin Imm Thai Restaurant to try this dish. Unfortunately, did not find it very good. This dish had some taste; however, this item is in the big leagues, just trying to get up that hill. It failed in my opinion. Crispy Duck Rolls: $9.95 I had forgotten what Duck tasted like. Yet , prepared in the right hands, The Crispy Duck Rolls are sensational with flavor. Donald Duck, Daffy Duck and Darkwing Duck and Daisy Duck and even Scrooge McDuck would not be amused at the thought of eating duck...on second thought, most of them would most likely join in eating poultry. Some would be appalled, disgusted, repulsed, revolted, sickened, appalled, and nauseated...yes, Its so not nice I said it twice. I find this dish to be shocking, thrilling, spectacular, stunning, magnificent fantastic dramatic, superb and FABULOUS! The seasoning of the Crispy Duck Rolls is prodigious. The Duck sauce (if that's what it was) in one word to describe it..Kafkaesque. Personally, I thought about not getting my next order of it without sauce. I quickly abolished this idea, because the Duck Rolls need the small amount of sauce that goes on it. The Crispy Duck Roll melts in your mouth so to speak. It is the best appetizers I had on the second day of coming to this restaurant. I will be ordering The Crispy Duck Rolls again. Probably this coming Monday April 27th 2026. I look forward to trying out a few more items on the menu, or at the very least, some repeats items. 4/27/26 Okay, for the second time upon entering this business, I noticed the short haired lady who sits at service table is giving me the stink eye. I have come to think of her as Jabifa since I don't remember her name. If Jabifa's problem with me is the changing of a few items on the food menu, requesting no sauce on the food or not have the food spicy, then she is in the wrong business of food service. Speaking of food, I noticed the Nom Nom Pork Strips were different this time around. They did not look like the ones I had the last two times. They looked like the The Grilled Pork Skewers, but without the Skewers with less flavor than the last two times I had them. Ohh things have changed, but hopefully this is a fluke. We will see what happens within the next two times I revisit this business. Until that time, the overall experience for this place is a four star level. If Jabifa's stink eye continues, we might be at a 3 star for ambience and service. Nevertheless, the food itself is at a five star level.
