Had a really lovely New Year's Eve takeout meal! A couple dishes that had been on my radar for a while, I finally got to order and they were all so delicious! Staff was friendly and kind as usual. It was empty on New Year's Eve at 7:30 PM but regardless my food really hit the spot on a special night. The Kari puffs were a really tasty combination of potatoes and chicken in a flaky crusty shell. The Ma kea throng krung was a dish unlike any I've ever had before! The description said that the eggplant was fried and it was perfectly done, just slightly fried along with pieces of chicken and shrimp in a delicious sauce. I've never had such a great combination before with eggplant, shrimp, and chicken, but this really was unique and flavorful! I also ordered the chicken pineapple Khao pad which was the perfect balance of sweet and tangy, with the raisins and chicken and onions and veggies and pineapple! All around a really great meal. It was Thursday night, and I was in the mood for take-out. I decided to see if there were any new additions to the plethora of Thai places in Arlington. I noticed Khun Yai Thai and realized I've never eaten there before. I proceeded to place a take-out order. It was an easy pick-up at the restaurant. The Chicken Pad Thai came in huge portions. I honestly didn't even need to order a side of Calamari. The noodles had the hint of wok hei, which is the essence of all good Asian take-out. The dish is more on the savory side vs. sweet. The Calamari came in nicely deep-fried, wide pieces of squid. Perfect for dipping. The meal was yummy and a great value. I may have found a new go-to in Arlington for Thai. read more

This is one of those places where you become a regular. The food is delicious, portions are generous and prices are reasonable. It's one of the most affordable places around that is also great quality. We have two little kids and the owners are very kind to them, and we always feel welcome when we come in. Food: homestyle Thai and Thai-adjacent good. Based on the style of the food, presentation, and overall, I honestly imagine the restaurant is run by a family cooking for family. Our youngest daughter loves the three flavored chicken, which might be compared to a sesame chicken dish. Personally, I love the drunken noodles. The presentation varies a little each time (with veggies changing based on what they have on hand, I expect), but the taste is consistently very enjoyable. And everyone loves the spring rolls. Ambience: again, a quiet, little family run spot. Service: at the risk of being repetitive, again, the service of a little family run spot. Friendly, attentive, but busy and sometimes a little stretched. Everyone wears a few different hats. (Which has never been an issue - timing or otherwise - for us.) Review is for dine-in, but we've always observed a healthy amount of take-out traffic. And the staff seemed to recognize some of persons grabbing take-out, suggesting repeat clientele. Good sign. (P.S. Have only had take-out once. Very tasty but the drunken noodles stuck together. One of the newer Thai restaurants in the area. Parking can be a challenge with a small lot in back, but you can usually find some street parking in the area. They have two sets of dining areas inside- it looks like many other upscale Thai restaurants in the area. Service was quick and attentive throughout. We shared an order of the spring rolls to start which were well prepared and quite tasty. I went with the crispy basil duck for my entrée. It had a great flavor level with the perfect amount of seasoning, and a good amount of sautéed vegetables to compliment the dish. My sister and I were regulars at Thai Pilin in Vienna and were so bummed when they closed, that they were able to open a new restaurant was the best news we could ever receive!!! I'm not sure why other reviews are so low, the portions and prices are great, and the food is even better. The ga pow here is unlike any I've ever had at other Thai restaurants in the area. It's authentic and feels so homemade, like eating your mother's cooking for the first time in years. I've been back several times since they opened and will continue to return as long as I'm able! WOW! Before COVID, my family and I had been regulars at Thai Pailin in Tysons Corner. When we heard it closed after us having been going there for 10+ years we were devastated as i'm sure a lot of their client base was too. And then a few months ago the same family that owned and operated Thai Pailin was able to open a new spot and my God does it not disappoint! Amazing food, friendly efficient service, nice light/clean atmosphere, and a killer lunch special that extends to Saturdays too! We got the classic gra pow and the new ma kea throng krueng which was literally so freaking good, i'm still craving it. Finally, mango and sticky rice to end it on a high note. This place used to be Ghin Na Ree. Now it got a new name and a new owner. The inside is similar to how it was. The menu didn't change much either. The portion is a bit smaller and the price is slightly higher than before, but it is still cheaper than other Thai restaurants in Arlington. The food is DIFFERENT from before. The Pad Thai is not as wet as it was before. The Pad See Ew is just bland. The garlic pepper chicken also needs more seasoning and the veggies are frozen, not fresh. Overall, I think the food tastes different and is not as good as it was Ghin Na Ree. I may come back if I want some cheap food but I don't think I would crave the food here. read more

Gave it a try because of the "under new management" sign out front. It's close to the house, so we were hoping to find a good Thai restaurant nearby. Whereas the new restaurant is more traditional Thai, unlike his predecessor, we were quite disappointed with the food. It was surprisingly bland across-the-board, which is hard to do with Thai food. We ordered a variety of dishes, and none of them were noteworthy. Even the kids Penang chicken had minimal flavor. Being a loyal Ghin Na Ree Thai customer (previous restaurant) which had an amazing lunch special (huge entree, spring roll, soup, ice tea), this new place does well to replicate. This lunch special is only M - F, till 2 pm so get there early, all for $10! Can't beat that. Includes ice tea, decent sized entrees, spring roll, soup, which all seem less oily and a bit smaller in portion (my heart will thank me) but solid flavor. I got the drunken noodles tofu, all cooked really well and fried (sometimes tofu can be steamed and too mushy). Being veg, they gave me two veggie spring rolls instead since the soup that day was a pork wonton. Spring rolls were fried to perfection and tasty. My friend got chicken pad gra prow and said it was very good and flavorful. His was a bit more spicy than Ghin Na's but he housed it. Overall, a great lunch deal to take advantage of and free ice tea/refills as a bonus. Great service and nice family running it. Clean and comfortable environment. My family ordered take out last night. Food was ready on time and temperature perfect when we got it home. We tried two appetizers - spring rolls and crispy wontons - really tasty with a mix of proteins. Thai pork fried rice had large slices of pork - delicious flavor.
